- We have JUST fixed this car in time to get to the auto train to go to Amelia Island and the Rennworks Reunion! What better way to test my refreshed Porsche 928 than to put it on the I95 and point it at Florida and then just go!
In the last video, we fixed the car up and now, in this video, we are going to use it as intended and that’s go on a ROOOOOAAAAAD TRIIIIIP!
Let me show you the journey, what I really like about the 928, what I don’t like and what you should look out for. I will also show you Amtrak’s AutoTrain which is, in my opinion, the ONLY way to travel down the east coast down to Florida! So civilized, comfortable and restful.
All written, researched and edited by me. You can download all my Porsche model guides at www.jayreadyoutube.com so go and take a look there, OK?
Why not follow me on Instagram too? I am a CAR guy first and I get around so take a look at the reels and pictures that I take because you might like them! Also you get news on my own Porsche, my MG and other life events there before RUclips! Look for jayreadyoutube on Insta now!

Being a railroad Conductor myself I applaud you for riding the train.
Cheers 🥂
Loved it, Diego! Been twice now!
Awesome Jay your upgraded 928!! I enjoyed the 'ride along' in your landshark. A 911 is a nice attractive car, but the 928 is/has something extra special. That 70/80s scifi look. Beautiful.
Cheers!
The 928 is definitely a cool car! Can't wait to see more of it.
Stay tuned! Thank you!
Trains are so underrated in the US. The car seems to be running well! Looks great😊
Cheers mate!
Good job Jay. Have fun in FL. Took the auto train myself last fall. Not a bad way to travel. Beats the traffic.
Thanks!
The 928 is undoubtedly a cool car😎👍!
Looks great, drives great, and sounds great! Enjoy Sir Jay! ✌
Thanks mate!
Man that’s cool! I never knew that Amtrak offered a service like that!!
I've enjoyed all your videos, all your cars, and especially your enthusiasm to try things and educate the rest of us. Thanks for all the great videos and inspiration for us potential/upcoming/new owners. Cheers!
Thanks a lot, Jon!
Fabulous..enjoy your trip and let’s get our S2 together next when you are back !
Your sons don’t drive manuals? That is just bad parenting, Jay😉
Hahaha! I know right! Not car guys, I’m afraid. My youngest is though and he’s starting in December on a manual!
@@JAYREAD there is still hope then 😀
😂 you stole the words out of my mouth!!
@@lepepus lol!
@@lepepus hahaha
At least there are some of us with good judgement 😃
Cars looking great Jay,and that’s good on the train, much less stress 😊 cheers Frank
Thanks Frank!
I'm enjoying the ride. Looking forward to seeing the next episode.
Thanks Ron!
oh yeah, V8. My daily is a V8 and a absolutely love it. So great to hear your 928 on the highway as you give it the beans. Seems the perfect car for a long road trip, even with the auto. Actually seems to suit the GT nature of the car. Cracking vid Jay!
Cheers Andy!
Thanks for sharing…..I see your subscribers are increasing, good job.
Too slowly but yes! Haha!
GT3 sounded good from here ! It's satisfying seeing things come together . I recently bought a red V6 2009 Chrysler 300 awd - nothing special - at a fair deal knowing I'd spend some money . Timing belt , new brakes (big difference) , tune up and last week the second mechanic I took it to who knew these cars well replaced the sway bar hangers which totally transformed the front end handling . Feels like I'm done ... for now . Enjoying the winter with an open sunroof and heated seats hahaha
Very satisfying! Doesn’t matter what car it is providing you’re happy!
Your Welcome Jay👍
That car has been transformed. I’m glad you are enjoying it!
Thanks!
S Class Mercedes that would eat up the miles
Oh that’s true!
928 is a bit more special though, Chris?
My 1998 Mercedes R129 SL500 eats up the miles.
@@jamesreckling6697 oh yes, unused to have one of those!
I've had a 924 and currently own a 986 Boxster S but always wanted a 928 so I am living vicariously through you with this car. I went to buy a 928 back in 1989 on a Saturday morning and someone had purchased the car the night before. Any other 928 I was thinking of buying always came about at the wrong time or needed too much work prior to being roadworthy. I was told by Porsche dealership salesman to be careful with the 928 because they are expensive to fix so I am looking forward to your upcoming installment covering the costs involved with this car.
Thanks Jim! Very glad to have you along for the ride! Costs video coming!
Looks like a fun trip. Still miss my 1984 S2. Wasn't particularly quick but would hold 165mph (on the Autobahn) until traffic would slow us down. Yours is definitely worth holding on to. If you buy an S4 or GTS, please keep your S2 too... (ask me how I know 😉)
Very cool video!! I didn’t know Amtrak offered car transport service!! I’m anxious for your video detailing how much you have invested into your 928 thus far. 🤔
Thank you! Yes, costs video will be the one after next. Amelia Island next! You’ll love that video!
I’m in the east coast as well. Let’s all of us hit the road together next time!!! 🍻
Come with us to Tail of the Dragon in July!
That engine note was nice as you were fruitlessly racing that GT3.
Ha! Not racing, passing each other!
So cool! I will do a trip like this soon! I'm not just saying that either!
Come with us to the Tail of the Dragon in July!
@@JAYREAD I will plan on that!
Any link to the details?
Enjoyed that a lot, Jay. I’ve been close to buying a 928 on 2 occasions, but both had problems that were too expensive to realistically fix 😢. Yours looks lovely now; are those rear side windows tinted?
Cheers Rob! They are tinted, I think. Not sure if I like that yet! I’m going to do a costs video soon so then you’ll know.
@@JAYREAD My breath is bated, Jay!
@@robcookson7559 HAHAHA! Steady!
Auto Train! Thanks for the tip
Yup! It’s really good fun!
Great idea! I did the Amtrak auto train years ago to accompany my girlfriend, now wife of 15 years, to an internship in Florida. We couldn’t afford the sleeper car. Never occurred to me to use it to get to Amelia for Werks. I think I just might do that, and this time get the sleeper car!
Yup! Very civilized!
Enjoy your channel. Sorry I missed you at Werks.
Thank you! I’m sorry I missed you too. Next time!
@@JAYREAD - Definitely!
Jaguar XJS would be great on the highway……..not at the gas pump but that wasn’t your question!
Oh good point! I should get one of those too and do a comparison! The 928 isn’t exactly cheap on the gas front!
Great stuff. Don't want to jinx the car but I heard a high pitched whine when you accelerated to show the sound from the exhaust. Very possible it's nothing but better to take note just in case. Looking forward to the next installment.
Yes, I’m aware of that. I think it could be the exhaust. Not sure though. Pretty sure it’s not the engine itself.
@@JAYREAD No, it didn't sound like it was from the engine. Yep, possibly from the exhaust itself or something like torque tube related or related to engine load via the drivetrain. Exhaust does seem likely as it's been modified. Enjoy yourself, lucky man ! 👍
@@johnmcdonnell81 thanks John!
Yo Jay, your 928 sounds sweet! as far as manual vs automatic for a 928, i think you made the right choice going for the automatic, its a GT car, its meant for road trippin'. that's coming from a die hard manual shift guy. a 928 manual doesn't seem right.
It was the ONLY choice at the price point I was shopping!
@@JAYREAD true, manuals are very rare with the 928.
Well, back in 1985 the 928 had serious challengers: Mercedes Benz 560 SEC, Lotus Esprit Turbo, Alpina 635 CSI, or BMW M5, Audi Sport Quatro, Jaguar XJS, Mazda RX7 II, for example. Some of them are marvelous miles eaters too and still pretty reliable today. Don't get me wrong, the 928 was one of the best, but not the single one.
Great point! I’m not sure that the Lotus would have made it though! Lol!
You really gotta love a car to have never really driven one and first put that much money into it to see if you like it.I hope you do. Can't say I could do that. Sons def need to learn stick on the MG.....
That Auto train is interesting. So what's the cost for a return trip?
Around $800
Great to see you in Amelia Island
You too!
noticed you still have that german temporary license plate from BRAUNSCHWEIG under the connecticut plate....
Jawohl!
Jay i never asked prior.. are you using a radar detector and if so which unit?
No, Paul. Just Waze.
If you had titled the film as a review of the train along with the Porsche you might get epic wating numbers. Great film though ....
Ha! Maybe! Not the kind of returning viewers that will work for the long term though. Besides, I already did a film about the Auto Train when I had my 911 and it didn’t do great! Glad you enjoyed it though, Matt!
So we'll see this on an auction website soon?
HAHAHA! NOOOOO!
my 1985 928 does not perform like yours, mine wont kickdown and shift like that... do you know what could be causing my issue? thanks
Have you changed the fluid?
@@JAYREAD yes , we did it bangs into gear 3 but no kickdown . I have to shift out of drive to get it to kickdown to a lower gear... maybe I need a transmission rebuild
@@laurencel.7980It may be something as simple as a bad switch or a dirty ground. Have you tested the kickdown switch?
@@JAYREAD I am not a mechanic, so I don't even know where the kick down switch would be...lol
@@laurencel.7980 HAHAHA! Underneath the pedal!
Gt3 on straight road yea wouldn't outrun...but turns mountain road..you will take him
Hmmm. Not sure, Miguel!
Tell your wife she has a fantastic husband ;-) I have 3 stickshift cars - not only because I like them more but also to make shure she doesn`t want to drive them… lol
Haha! I’ll tell her. Again!
