So informative, and educational, thanks so much. I could have done with you when I made my four children, a duffle coat each over one summer holiday about 20 years ago !! The fabric looks great too.
You are such a star!!! I love the coat you have chosen for this year, and all of your lovely advice. The inside is just as pretty as anything! I look forward to seeing the next parts of your process.
My Abraham Moon teal melton arrived from your shop a few weeks ago, and I'm about to start making the coat - in time for the Canberra winter. I've made this pattern a few times, but each time got snarled up somewhere, so will be following your advice closely.
Hi Lauren. Absolutely loved your blog. I’m very tempted to make the shorter version. I’ve never heard of the hump jump! But what a brilliant piece of advice because I’ve certainly experienced it before!
Physio On The River I'd just like to add to Lauren's advice that the needle should be down in the seam before you raise the presser foot to do the hump jump. That way your seam stays even and smooth in an unbroken line. It's a great technique to use when shortening a jeans seam too.
Hi Lauren, fantastic tips and advice so thanks so much for that 👌. I will definitely refer back to this when I pluck up the courage 😉. I loved your Kelly anorak which I think I might have a go at first but love the duffle coat and can't wait to see yours finished 💝😁😘
40 pattern pieces! Wow. You are brave. But you’re right. Break it down into little sections and it will all work out fine. To me, it’s like putting a puzzle together. I just noticed that you have 10,000 subscriber’s now. So exciting!!
Great video and tips! I'm in the process of making a coat which doesn't have nearly the amount of pieces or steps as yours, but it is my first coat and it is out of a faux melton wool. Can't wait to see your finished coat and what I've seen in this video, it looks like it's going to be exquisite!😊
I love coat making! Thank you so much for doing this series, it can be very difficult to come by this information. I am currently waiting for the October BurdaStyle, there is a trench-type jacket in there that I plan to make.
Hi Lauren. Great tips can’t wait to see your next video. I was wondering about the hump jump you made with fabric, would it work without the hump jump fabric ? When you put your fabric under your presser foot and press down on the front like you did, but push the black button at the left side of your foot that should hold your foot level. I think it is on Brother the J foot. That usually works, or was your fabric too thick for that? I love your videos always great tips and ver well put together Val🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
Hi Val, Ah yes my foot does do that so defiantly an option. On the foot I have you seen to need to hold quite a bit of pressure on that black button though and I guess I found it easier to first insert the hump jump then have both hands free to guide the fabric given how bulky it was. I'll give that a try in future though - thanks! :)
Wow, 40 pattern pieces....Thanks Lauren for all the tips & advice....

I love watching you and your advice is always sound. I’m going to invest in a clapper very soon.

Brilliant tips! I made this last year with a thinsulate interlining... it was a lot of fabric!! 😂
Great tips and video
Brilliant, thank you.
How do you sew it on if it is a fur coat? The lining is already attached to the fur
Instead of turning the handwheel which I find a total pain I use the needle up/down button
Oh and see you at the K & S show next Friday! Diana
Thank you so much for all these super tips! Where does one buy a clapper?
this is a good place... :) www.sewessential.co.uk/hardwood-point-presser-and-clap

This is a fantastic video! How do you finish your seam allowances? Or do you not need to with this fabric?
Thank Amy :) I didn't on this project as the fabric doesn't fray at all. Some woollen fabrics do though
