Good advice! I only sew in wovens for spring and summer. A lot of people don’t know that in hot climates around the world, wovens are used, it breathes and is cooler. Synthetics like knits, are used for winter, very warm. I haven’t sewn any knits yet.
Thank you for your great videos. I taught myself to sew when I was about 13, however a lot of what a taught myself was wrong or I had incomplete knowledge. At 37 I've finally decided to dive back into sewing. Relearning everything starting at the basics. Your videos have helped and inspired me.
I love and appreciate ALL your videos. I always learn something new and I particularly like learning about patterns and what kind of fabrics go best with each. I also like when you show the fabrics up close, so we can learn more about them and their properties. One thing I would love to see is your fabrics matched to Seamwork patterns. Thank you Lauren for all the wonderful content you generously share.
Thank you for this walk through so many patterns I own but have yet to make up. Now that I have SO much time :) I've been pulling a few out to make up for the summer and your guidance to utilizing fabrics best suited to the look the sewist is seeking is so helpful. Not all simple patterns will work with both drapey or structured and you often have to make a couple to find that out! It really depends on their finishes too. Hope you and family are well and managing through this challenging time. I know how hard this lockdown has been on small business around the world. I'm confident there are many sewists in your community missing your classes or even venturing out to go into your shop. You've been so wise in the past to develop a solid online presence and I'm sure dedicated customers anxious to see your lovely small business to prevail :)
I’ve been making cotton tops. Using more drapey fabrics make a lot more sense. I’m thinking of a dress I made . I chose the most exciting fabric I’ve ever sewn with. It’s cotton and it doesn’t drape and flow at all. I guess because it was also lined made it too stiff. Good lesson for me! Great video, Lauren!
Very helpful video thanks. I make tote bags and handbags using faux leathers on my industrial but I have a hankering to make some clothes so this video has helped. Just have to decide which pattern and fabric to use and hope for the best, I haven't sewn clothes since school and thats about 40 years ago 🤞
Great content! I haves saved this for reference. Tops are something I need and I’ve been afraid to commit to choosing patterns to go with fabrics in my stash. This was a great help to get me going. Thank you.
Thank you, Lauren. Great video. I'm new to garment sewing and have only made the Stevie by Tilly and the Buttons (four so far) but I'm now ready to try something new, you've given me so many choices! Pat🐨🏖
Thank you! So helpful - i've been planning on making some tops for the summer but all the choice and fabrics etc can be a bit overwhelming for a begginer like me, especially when having to order on online due to lockdown (i'm unfamiliar with the qualities of the different fabrics) This has really helped me decide on which pattern and material to use! 😍👍❤
I wanted to look at the micro serration scissors you use but I can't find them in your shop. Also I need a new pair of pinking scissors.I use a lot of viscose so which would you suggest? I used to have one for fine fabrics and one for thick but I'm unable to get them sharpened is it still necessary to have two pairs?Thank you
A very useful video which I will recommend to my goddaughter. She’s already watched your bias binding tutorial. I’ve never made the scout tee as the finished measurements are quite large so I was undecided whether to size down considerably. I’m wary of it being small at the shoulders. Should I go by my high bust measurement do you think?
I am done with commercial pattern. I learn to make my own pattern. Most commercial pattern put too much ease on the sleeves pattern, even on pull up blouse! That kind of loose outfit do not need ease! I honestly think they don't have the ability to make the precise sleeves pattern that matches the armhole!

I loved the Ogden True Cami pattern. I have would wear it under a floaty kimono type which is a bit see through. What size does it go up to please.
Oh, I wish I could live close to you! With love from Chicago🤗🤗👏💕🌷
