The Game Nintendo Regrets Allowing

- In this video we talk about an ancient Nintendo 64 classic, Conker's Bad Fur Day. It's a game that to this day I still cannot believe was allowed by Nintendo. It's such an awesome, charming game which is why it's really upsetting that it's so hard to get your hands on a copy anymore.

isn’t true rare ware was bought by microsoft then ruin by microsoft
He must not be, wearing pants fellas. 👀😱🤣☠️
Hate to break it to you, but the game was designed for mature audiences.
Saying Nintendo doesn't want you to remember this game is funny considering they were actually 100% on board with it........ they actually really liked the idea..........
I love all of the movie references in Conker's Bad Fur Day not to mention there's also some game references from rare hidden in the game😆
Conkers bad fur day is very similar to an actual hangover in Britain
As a Brit, I can confirm that this rings 100% true in fact
Fun fact: "it's illegal to get drunk on a pub in the UK."
@@eljaminlatour6633 aint it the same way for us yanks? We can get pi (public intoxication) idk how far you can go before you get charged tho
@@eljaminlatour6633 yeah, you have to get drunk IN the pub, not on it
@@eljaminlatour6633 aside from the lack of handrails what could go wrong? Let them get drunk on the pub
I love how mario and conker canonically share not only a universe but the same planet.
Yeah same with Banjo
What? Really? Lmao
@@Average-Cacodemon-Enjoyer yeah cause in Diddy Kong racing Banjo and Conker first appeared there which is the Donkey Kong universe which is also the Mario universe
@@Pwilliams4000 oh my god, yeah, how did I not think of that? So it is possible for Diddy Kong, banjo, Mario, and conker to stand in one room. Wow
The fact that the great mighty poo exists within the same universe as the dark star is so- bizarre!
Nintendo never regretted greenlighting Conker’s Bad Fur Day tho. They supported the game and were very lenient with a lot of the content as stated by the devs behind the game. At E3 2000 they even had a full room meant to advertise the game with all kinds of crazy merchandise, from beer mugs to condoms all themed on the game.
As for the controls, I never had any problem with them playing on the N64. They always felt perfectly fluid and responsive to me but to each their own.
Imagine if someone actually used those Condoms... well didn't Nintendo before doing games, they did *Love* hotels once?
Also, ironically Nintendo Europe was really mad at the game they didn't publish it. (THQ published it on PAL territories)
yeah, nintendo is also cool with bayonetta and loads of other mature games.
Pretty sure they even sold/offered alcohol or, root beer or something in the same area, don't remember which.
damm that sounds like a fever dream ngl
CONDOMS IM FUCKING DEAD 💀💀💀
It's a shame how we were robbed of Banjo 3 & Conker 2 on the Game Cube. What a masterpiece.
Thank Microsoft for buying Rare, and blame Nintendo for not buying Rare..
And Perfect Dark 2 and Donkey Kong Racing. Perfect Dark probably would have been Nintendo's Halo and Killzone...
@@kenrickkahn Yeah. Nintendo had the chance to buy Rare, but chose not to... I'm still disappointed that we didn't get Donkey Kong Racing. It was in development for the GameCube, but it was cancelled when Rare was about to be bought by Microsoft.
Technically, this *IS* Conker 2.
Most talent already left Rare around that time
Not a bad look at the game, but saying Bad Fur Day was the reason Rare went to Microsoft is perpetuating old rumors. If you look into it, Nintendo was pretty supportive of it, and the main reasons it failed had to do with its late release in the console's life, limited advertising and various stores refusing to sell it. Rare would part ways with Nintendo in 2002, but it had nothing to do with Conker - talks were in place well before then, and with how the industry was changing, it made more sense for Rare to go with someone who'd buy them, which Nintendo refused.
RUclipsrs don't research out of 2 seconds of googling man. The even worse thing is if you made more research orientated videos, you probably wouldn't get much veiwers either cuz "thats boring". Future is a bleak place full of people making up their own history and "truth".
@@CrashHeadroom There are a lot of great channels like mattmcmuscles and superbunnyhop that actually do proper journalism though
I remember my mom walking by while I was playing during the part where you had to bounce on the sunflower's giant breasts... Yeah... that was awkward... The d-day beach multiplayer mode was my favorite!
Just imagine if the sunflower had an even bigger bum at the back of her THICC round thighs and we had to bounce on them! 😂
hell yeah i liked colors and heist as well damn those were the days
@@chrisbrandon3040 loved heist with the Tommy gun, nearly unstoppable until my friend cooked a bomb and threw it last second to blow me into shreds 😂
hahahaha.. my favorite is the conversation of the barnyard tools
The d day multiplayer with Teddy’s vs squirrels was a go to at my buddy’s house growing up since he had it!!
How did rare manage to make monkey noises and fart sounds into catchy music?
Just means you're into shitty music
Because rare
Its rare
I let a friend borrow my copy back in 2004 and he returned it a couple years ago. Good lad!
Small correction, the pokemon scene wasn’t the ONLY scene Nintendo wanted removed. The other request was for the “It’s War” chapter where a teddy bear is seen literally being ripped to shreds. It was replaced with a cutscene that was intended as a post-credits scene at the request of Nintendo.
I’m not going to forget this game.
It was absolutely hilarious
Conker's bad fur day is a HUGE part of my childhood, I wouldn't be the same without it lmao
Nintendo doesn't *regret* Conker, Rare had just been bought out by Microsoft, leading to them only being able to release games using their IPs on XBOX.
Wait a second, since Conker came from a Donkey Kong game, this means Conker’s Bad Fur Day is canon to the Mario universe.
And this makes me think he'd probably get along really well with Wario.
It'd be cool to have him in Smash. Doubt it will ever happen, though.
@@JonnyCrackers When you're playing as Ridley in Smash, pretend that you're playing the Xenomorph who is the final boss of Conker's bad Fur Day. Nintendo confirmed that the Xenomorph was a big inspiration for Ridley.
How they out every effing character in super smash except conkers? Smfh
My favorite game ever, there's just too much charm on every single bit, and conker is such a cool protagonist, he's mean and immoral but just the right amount of lovable
Honestly Rare Replay on Steam would be an instant buy from me, there are so many great games on it that I had played for the first time on my brother's xbox, that I don't have a way of playing on anymore, that I want to play again and I am not about to buy a whole console for Rare Replay of all things. Hell, I would buy Rare Replay even if it wouldn't have a k&m compatible control scheme because the games in it are just that good, I just hope that if it comes to Steam it won't be another MCC situation where some games release in a couple of months and we are left with only some NES and Atari games at launch.
Emulation...
@@gabeznl3591 n64 emulation is a meme lol
Series S
I prefer the original over the remastered
Because the o.g looks more colourful and the remastered kinda ruins it's art style
The remastered version also cleanes up a lot of the swearing
somebody should rip the audio from the original and replace it on the new version.
I dunno if the og xbox can be emulated tho
@@do365nic The good news is that Chris Seavor the creator of Conker made an Indie game called the Unlikely Legend of Rusty Pup.
I remember how I played this game a lot as a kid cuz my Dad knew I wouldn't really understand anything
whenever I asked questions about what the fuck was happening cuz I was really young, he'd just make up dumb stuff like the beer in the game was actually just apple juice
Being a Conker fan hurts so fucking much, you have no idea. I honestly wished I never even knew this game existed so that I wouldn't be in so much pain for how neglected it is. There's hardly even any form of fan content for him either, not even mods for Project M EX Remix and Rivals of Aether. I genuinely don't think this misery will ever end…
So basically they managed to cram GTA V drunkenness, COD WW2 Normandy Beach Raiding, and pissing squirrels into the N64. *BRAVO NINTENDO, BRAVO RAREWARE*
My mother falls into the "good parenting" category. True story, my mother saw Conker's at the rental store one day and told me about it when she got home. It reminded her of Donkey Kong and Banjo which she knew I liked. So the next week we go to rent the game. The cashier looks at my mom and the 8-9 year old me. They tell her that it's rated for mature audiences. My mom asks why and the cashier was like "well.... the game starts off with a hungover squirrel." My mom decides to give it a chance anyway, but will sit down with me and the game when we got home to see for herself. I pop the cartridge in and there's a save file at the Reagan fight (tediz robo boss). My mom decides that it isn't that bad with the squirrel allegedly starts drunk, but by the end of the game he's just some military solider smoking a cigar and dual wielding assault riffles. Thanks ma!
Bamboozled . 😂 U lucky bastard .
@Ivan Hernandez Nunez the Gargoyle at the start if the game was actually scary at the time. At least for a younger kid. Great game, just don't get sliced by the I've water death fans.
If I'm not mistaken, Conker was originally planned to be in a game called conkers quest but somehow after his squeaky clean appearance in Diddy Kong racing.. became the drunk we all know today!
Microsoft needs to come to agreements with nintendo to give this game a sequel
@@mok._.387 Microsoft owns Conker, its up to them whether or not they make Rare create a sequel
He became the drunk we know today because after Conkers Quest was shown, game journalists criticized rare for making too many kid friendly games since Banjo Kazooie was on its way. So rare took that criticism and reworked Conkers quest into bad fur day
@@mok._.387 The closet will ever get is Hell Pie, how ever it doesn't have the Wit of Conker.
@@ribbblyy1580 The problem is that Conker's creator Chris Seavor left Rare, so I don't think it's possible to make a sequel without him.
Conker is one of the few N64 games that held up well enough to still be enjoyable to play present day. Funny, good graphics, challenging, and diverse platforming experience.
Excellent video Sir!!! Nintendo regretted the game so much, they outright refused to publish it in the UK.
THQ released it in Britain!
Hey Larry! Love your videos
@@joea874 Aw, cheers Joe, muchly appreaciated Sir!!!
@@Larry Are you British?
@@janitoalevic What gave you that impression?
Great to see you still hanging around Larry.
Part of me can't believe that Conker's still a big part of me, came out when I was 12, became a fan when I was 13 and got me through some hard times as a teenager with Aspergers Syndrome. I've now got him tattooed on my right arm so he'll always be a part of me.
What a game, also Chris Seavor's following me on Twitter and loved my tattoo
One of my biggest wishes is having Conker in Smash
I agree fellow vamp
Smash remix has ya covered
I forgot it was this rare. Glad my parents purchased the game when it released because I had a blast playing it when I was younger lol
Considering this came out right at the tail end of the N64's lifespan, it was a huge success. No one regretted it and it really does hold up. Addictive as fuck multiplayer mode, brilliant story, large variety of gameplay, hilarious cutscenes... Never gonna get a game like this again. Very grateful my N64 is up and running ❤️
It was a different time
Maybe even a better
Yeah, me and my brother trolled my other brother in multiplayer. We both lured him to a specific place in one of the maps and sniped him
to be honest, minus the heavy censoring in Live and reloaded. Its not a bad remake and graphically its great and controls significantly better
It looks like if it was a Wii U/360 game. In fact the 360 can [officially] emulate this game via backwards compatibility at 720p
@LennyQUMFIF that's actually how I play my copy, live and reloaded is max Like $50 so if you have either a 360 or og xbox pick it up🤣🤣
My barber always tells me this was the first game to ever have swear words lol
3:47 That song was originally meant for a scrapped vampire character for Killer Instinct, as it and Conker were done by the same subsection of Rare.
Hey Nintendo, remember Conker?
Nintendo: Ah yes, Conker… From Diddy Kong’s Racing!
Tbh they should sell the rights to it to a different developer. I wanna see more Conker in the future
Literally one my fav 64 games and childhood memories was going to 4-5 diff spots to get denied until i found a sunburst video that was closing and selling every game, movie, and bucket of popcorn they had and didnt care that a 11 yr old was buying an R rated game
They actually didn’t regret this they actually liked it allot but the only thing they regret is selling rare
I wonder why Nintendo never reveal the game cheats on the strategy guide books? Sure i can found them on the internet, but every time you buy those guide books..... Nothing!
CAM WE JUST APRECIATE HOW GOOD THIS THUMBNAIL IS? jesus christ!
Nintendo requested Rare make the game even raunchier upon seeing an early build when development rebooted. Nintendo partnered with Playboy for a college campus tour advertising the game and the playboy brand. The game had a dedicated E3 booth that handed out Conker branded beer and condoms.
We need a sequel to this awesome game.
They dont regret allowing it. They were in strong support of its creation man
They should make a new game called Command and Conker!
Conker
You legend! I loved playing Prey! That score is so iconic to me, fun to slip that in at the end.
I wonder how well Conker and the Postal Dude would get along
You act like this was the only M rated game on the n64.
It's not even the only M rated game Rare made for the console
The other was Perfect Dark. They only made 2 M-Rated games.
While yea it was more violent than Conker, it was only violent pretty much.
While conker had swears, suggestive dialog and adult jokes.
@@LennyQUMFIF but there were 28 M Rated games on the system, including Resident Evil 2
@@sgillman16 I meant M rated *BY RARE*
Bro didn't talked about my main Perfect Dark
I'll never forget the first time I saw the commercial. My God... I was like 9 or 10. I wanted the game so bad. Eventually my friends and I rented it from blockbuster. We played the hell out of the multiplayer. The cheat codes were so good. They went all out with that game. 10/10 game
10$ on xbox. Free if you have gamepass
Nintendo didn't sold rare ware, they just didn't buy it.
Well I guess that also counts as selling rare, since they allow them to be sold out
I still have my N64 with Bad Fur Day. 4 N64 controllers.
I just wanted to point out how the Xbox version was billed as an unedited version and then ended up being more edited than the original
Conker's Bad Fur Day, to this day, remains probably the most influential adult game before GTA and COD entered the picture. And it was REALLY popular back in the 2000s and early 2010s. It came out back in 2001, after all, and its crude sense of humor consisting of sex jokes, black comedy, tons of cussing, toilet humor, and pop culture references was very in with the times in the 2000s. I remember when I used to watch countdown videos all the time, it was a pretty popular topic to discuss, most notably for many boss lists featuring the Great Mighty Poo and lists on bad water levels featuring Clang's Lair.
This game was a masterpiece, and i swear much of my personality development came from playing this game as a kid and absolutely adoring Conker.
The intro to Bad Fur Day introduced me to Kubrick's Clockwork Orange. The amount of creatives surprises and smiles in this game has hardly ever been matched for me.
Aw man, remember Viva Piñata? The first Xbox had so many good bangers.
Such a good vid with W editing almost thought bro had 100k+
Auto sub my g
in N64 era nintendo allowed gory games, N64 has Mortal Kombat, Doom 64 and more. hell the gamecube have ''BMX XXX'' game with uncensored boobs, while ps2 version is censored
After Mortal Kombat 1 on SNES, they stopped censoring. The next Mortal Kombat games on SNES had blood. The only reason the first was censored was to win lawsuits (And Sega got DESTROYED on those lawsuits lol)
Anime games have less or no censorship (except for visual novels that have AO content as that needs to be changed to suit console) on Switch, while they're censored on PS4
Great game. It was always strange to me how Conker was in Diddy Kong Racing
I thought the controller for n64 was fantastic as well as conker bad fur day. Epic game great multiplier
I'm glad this got recommended to me.
It's one of my top 5 favorite games at number 2. And I will always watch a video of somebody talking about it. Also, I definitely pre-ordered that gfuel lmfao
Yeah Rare Replay not popping up on PC yet is a downright shame. I'd buy that day one just to have the best ultimate way to play BK, BT and Conker (potentially Perfect Dark) on PC. Everything else, a few aside, are perfect bonuses.
I'm guessing the main issue is a lot of those games would need a whole layer added on top to allow to play with keyboard and mouse.
The Dung Beetle's scouse accent isnt actually a reference to Liverpool being a shithole. Its a reference to The Beatles, the legendary band from Liverpool. There are four of them as well lol
That’s why Conker was replaced in Diddy Kong Racing DS.
Fun fact. Conker live and related for the xbox had two versions. 1.0 and 1.1 with 1.0 being uncensored and significantly more rare
We use to do multiplayer. Neo Conker with the samurai sword was dope. Chopping Teddy bear head off. Capture the flag was fun too. Some of my favorite memories.
I think conker acts so barbaric because he may be a depressed guy
im surprised Nintendo even let the game on the n64 at all considering their kid friendly image
btw you earned a new sub
Well remember Disney now owns Family Guy, some might think its a similar artstyle to Disney's animated shows
And remember, Nintendo has a stake in the Bayonetta series now. They helped develop Devil's Third on Wii U. They published Geist and Eternal Darkness on the GameCube. They helped develop two Fatal Frame games, a Japan exclusive one on the Wii and also Maiden of Black Water on Wii U.
This isn't out of their territory. Abnormal to think about at the time, but not out of the question.
Uhm, Nintendo also let Goldeneye, Mortal Kombat 4, Resident Evil, Quake, Doom, Perfect Dark, Duke 3D (albeit it was somewhat censored) and many others. None of these are really kid's games.
And of course, even the SNES had Mortal Kombat with blood in Mortal Kombat 2 and 3. It's only with GTA that they probably draw the line, despite the Gamecube mini DVD having enough storage space for GTA 3 or Vice City.
Oddly, the WiiU did get Watch Dogs.
@@bluejay21. And of course, now we have the new Doom games and the Witcher 3 on the Switch.
@@fungo6631 they did let GTA on GBA and DS. Home consoles were just tech reasons... GameCube was actually discs, GTA is heavy.
Wii was power and (probably) file size, and they thought the PS2 GTAs were too old.
Wii U was popularity and power.
Had a blast playing this game! I remember how I got it. My parents got my brother and I a racing wheel for Christmas for Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit for the PC. We didn't like it as it wasn't a very good wheel. We decided to swap it for something else. Went to Walmart with my dad and we picked out Conkers bad fur day. My dad did the exchange and didn't bat an eye as he just thought it's a video game for kids.
Loved every moment of Conker and my brother and I still make jokes/references still to this day. The game makes you grow up differently if you got to play as a minor.
2:32 Sugar free and natural flavor. Will you post the link to buy in the description please.
Lol powdered feces
Conkers have to come back the world needs him most Right now
This is like Banjo Kazooie meets both Resident Evil and the Nutshack
What an incredible game!! I would love it remade but not changed in anyway. Just graphically upgraded
I played the multiplayer with bad fur day with my siblings as kids. We loved that game.
There was another cut scene that nintendo shut down where the tediz did live surgery on a squirrel
I would not be the man I am today without this game, my sense of humor, twisted jokes, and just off the wall comedy, thank you so much rareware for making games fun!!
I'm glad Banjo-Kazooie did so well I rarely meet people who love the game like I did so I was always curious if anyone knew.
I want them to bring it to the N64 online but that’s never gonna happen. I’m grateful I’ve got a copy of the original uncensored version
Best multilayer battle mode of any game ever. Mainly because of the hilarious passwords required to unlock secret characters
It's crazy how ahead of the time the n64 and ps3 were
Some of the best times was playing 007, Duke Nukem 3D, Super Smash and Conker down in my basement with my friends.
I saw conkers bad furr day when I was 6.
I now have a irrational fear of squirrels.
Underrated
I think it's should've said Microsoft instead of nintendo, since nintendo doesn't have the conker license.
They definitely do not regret as it was a game that not only let Rare go out with a bang, but the N64 went out with one of the best games on the platform.
“Jinjo!”
Are we gonna forget that Rare made M games for the N64 several times before CBFD??
this is one of the games i most remember from my childhood.
I’m glad Conker made a couple returns after Live & Reloaded like Project Spark and Minecraft but we still want him back again
Soooooo no chance of seeing it on NSO any time soon, then?
No, not because that but because the emulation on NSO is bad.
(Actually this game is hard to emulate, on Xbox One rare replay it has screen tearing)
@@LennyQUMFIF it isn't hard to emulate if you got a good emulator
Suprised that goldeneye even got on NSO not due to the content but the whole rights thing
@@grizzlydino more suprised is how they got to share the rights and it also made it to freaking Rare replay on the Xbox
@@LennyQUMFIF Nintendo fixed almost all of the issues on OoT in NSO (although some games remain to have some issues like F-Zero X) so if there is any issues they would fix them
Conker was truly unforgettable. And I wasn't traumatized by the game but the psycho that introduced me to the game.
I remember this game , I loved it ! Laughed my head off as a teenager , was fun to play , I miss it 😢 I wished for a sequel 😔
The beachfront war scene is from the movie Saving Private Ryan.
Conker stuffing those wads of cash in the old prison wallet
I'll never forget Conker's Bad Fur Day
The head creator of the DDay scene, she had dreams of digital squirrels getting blown up because the amount of overtime was put into it.
My parents are so strict they would never allow this game at that time
Conkers was so dope back in the day
If you want to play the remastered version you can play it on xbox on rare replay
This game is probably the reason why Nintendo didn't offer to buy Rare in the end. Which is a real shame because Microsoft squandered what was left of Rare. Sea of Thieves is singularly amazing but the Rare culture was capable of so much more.
Got this when I was 9 for Christmas, still one of my all time favorite games!
Great Mighty Poo is my favorite boss fight of all time
