GTV has translated for himself and done live readings of Mario manga, that as ar as I know are publications separate from Mario-kun and seem something like particular favorites of Miyamoto, or, a bit more directly influenced by his tastes. Just saying, for the notion that they might be more influential to the movie. Even more so than the western cartoons or Super Mario-kun itself. At least in terms of origins of Donkey Kong. I think that's the kind of sensibilty why they used Cranky Kong for that kind of purpose, and why Foreman Spike is basically replacing Wario who was invented by Gunpei Yokoi's team, not Miyamoto's. It also has some rare scoops on Princess Daisy, though of course completely irreverent of any canon.
I kinda love how unhinged some of this Mario media is. The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach, while being very faithful to the source material, has Mario dress up in questionable costumes sometimes, has Luigi probably serving as the inspiration for Wario's personality (aka Luigi being a greedy prat), the question of how the Mushroom Kingdom exists within the video game AND the actual world, AND let's not forget everything about Prince Haru. There was even an animated parody that had Mario fighting Prince Haru for Peach's heart, complete with Haru becoming a Final Fantasy demon ala Culex. You covered how the Amada Anime series features Mario holding Bowser at gunpoint to save Peach, as well as how Mario fight his way out of being vored by the giant Bowser. And don't even get me started on just how weird the DIC cartoons and Super Mario-kun are!
It was definitely fun watching some of these because you can tell Nintendo was going for quantity over quality. Great mission to rescue Princess Peach does hold up though, especially since someone got a high quality VHS rip. Prince Haru I thought would have been a cool character cameo in the Mario and Luigi series (RIP).

I love how the set up for the plot of Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach is basically the same as that for Cheetahmen. Fun fact that I don't think you mentioned in the Bowser video: Bowser was played by a woman, Akiko Wada, a singer famous for her very deep voice. My favorite bit from that cartoon involves Peach tricking Bowser in the same manner as Puss-in-Boots: she convinces him to turn into all sorts of things and, finally, when he turns into a small teddy bear, she locks him inside a box (but he busts out shortly afterwards).
i love watching old mario media like this because you can tell that since mario had no established canon they could basically just do whatever they wanted to, the DIC mario stuff too is surprising accurate to the games themselves especially considering they were convinced less than 5 years after mario’s inception

At least my boy Mario will finally win over Peach’s heart in the upcoming movie and not be trapped in the Friend Zone. The Mario OVA was really cute and animated wonderfully (I’d like to see Prince Haru return as a villain who kidnaps Peach and tried to have his way with her and Mario and Bowser must team up to rescue their lover in a new Mario game) and there’s also the classic DIC Cartoons that were all mostly fond of. I’m so happy that Nintendo is actually using for the movie, it’ll be so fun!!!

The twist at the end of Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach (Mario gets cucked by some random prince that was hidden in the form of a crawler) is by far the funniest thing in Mario lore.

The Issun-Boshi episodes being my favorites (visually, as well as the stories that were adapted) and Super Mario-kun, what little you can find translated. Am I the only one who actually likes Mario's OVA design? As much as I like Yoichi Kotabe's iconic art style of Mario for the box art as well as the _Mario and Luigi_ series, I find Mario and Luigi in _The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach_ looks a lot more appealing and expressive, like almost any 80s and 90s anime. If Shigeru Miyamoto said that he wanted to hire a mangaka to illustrate the Super Mario Bros. cover art, then OVA Mario is the closest thing he can ever get.
I remember the Amada series, it was on RUclips since the gold age of YTP and community found it with a video called "momotaro". The Mario anime film was also loaded in RUclips in 2007-2008 for the first time with awful fansubs.

Okay. After all these years, I am beginning to understand the ending of Super Mario World 2, but it is still cloudy though. SMW1 and 2 was thought of as a mystery because of the chronology with grown up Mario first and baby Matio second.
I loved the live acting in the super mario super show. I bought the collection and the live acting was edited out. I remembered the live part as an comedy skit before the cartoon and a skit after the cartoon. The Danish live-action segments were uploaded online around this time last year but the uploader removed them a few months back because he was afraid of being penalized by Danish copyright agencies.
While I was reading up on this, I did see they were taken down at some point. It’s sad, that uploader seemed to be the only lead on seeing it in action.
So let me get this straight… a lost media that was found and was lost again all because the Danish government doesn’t wanted the fans to see this lost rare footage???? What kind of king koopa crap is that?!
I only recently learned about the Danish live action segments. And when I did, I simply figured every country did that. I could've sworn the one I had on VHS was just dubbed over from the original too.
As someone who seen a lot Super Mario-kun (I don’t know Japanese, but I am a big fan of the Monty Mole species so that is why I know them), I can safely say that the volumes were at their peak during the early volumes (volumes 1-9) and they are some of the best Mario manga we ever got. Volumes 10-19 were a mixed bag ranging from pretty good volumes to pretty mediocre and boring volumes. Volumes 20-43 are an incredibly mixed bag, with a few good volumes like volumes 23, 30, and 31, but a lot of horrible volumes to that are either extremely boring or insulting. Volumes 44-47 are actually really good and I highly suggest checking them out since the quality is around the same quality as the early volumes. Outside of volumes 54 and 55, most later volumes suck (especially the Origami King arc and the 6 volume long 3D World arc). STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE VOLUMES BASED ON MARIO RPGS (besides volumes 27 and 36, but they are only decent for the stuff that isn’t about the Mario RPGs since the Mario RPG portion of those volumes are awful), as those volumes tend to skip a ton of the Mario RPG content they are based on and are overall extremely low quality and soulless with nothing new to the table and just awful jokes and removing 90% of the contents that the games covered. The worst of these arcs are the ones based on the first Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, and Paper Mario: The Origami King (maybe since these RPGs are my favorite) since those arcs I feel like skip most of the Mario RPGs and add nothing new or charming and the very few new additions they added were incredibly stupid (like retconning Bobby’s death and doing nothing with it). The other Mario RPG arcs are just as awful to so stay away from them as well. So yeah, I really like Super Mario-kun, but it is an incredibly mixed bag at points either having extremely amazing volumes, or the Mario RPG volumes that I genuinely think are worse than the worst Mario games. I would also recommend looking at other Mario manga such as KC Mario and the 4koma Mario manga, since they are also pretty cool and don’t really have any low lows unlike Super Mario-kun (though the Mario 4koma manga can get inappropriate sometimes).

The Danish live-action segments were uploaded online around this time last year but the uploader removed them a few months back because he was afraid of being penalized by Danish copyright agencies.
While I was reading up on this, I did see they were taken down at some point. It’s sad, that uploader seemed to be the only lead on seeing it in action.
So let me get this straight… a lost media that was found and was lost again all because the Danish government doesn’t wanted the fans to see this lost rare footage???? What kind of king koopa crap is that?!

As someone who seen a lot Super Mario-kun (I don’t know Japanese, but I am a big fan of the Monty Mole species so that is why I know them), I can safely say that the volumes were at their peak during the early volumes (volumes 1-9) and they are some of the best Mario manga we ever got. Volumes 10-19 were a mixed bag ranging from pretty good volumes to pretty mediocre and boring volumes. Volumes 20-43 are an incredibly mixed bag, with a few good volumes like volumes 23, 30, and 31, but a lot of horrible volumes to that are either extremely boring or insulting. Volumes 44-47 are actually really good and I highly suggest checking them out since the quality is around the same quality as the early volumes. Outside of volumes 54 and 55, most later volumes suck (especially the Origami King arc and the 6 volume long 3D World arc). STAY FAR AWAY FROM THE VOLUMES BASED ON MARIO RPGS (besides volumes 27 and 36, but they are only decent for the stuff that isn’t about the Mario RPGs since the Mario RPG portion of those volumes are awful), as those volumes tend to skip a ton of the Mario RPG content they are based on and are overall extremely low quality and soulless with nothing new to the table and just awful jokes and removing 90% of the contents that the games covered. The worst of these arcs are the ones based on the first Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, and Paper Mario: The Origami King (maybe since these RPGs are my favorite) since those arcs I feel like skip most of the Mario RPGs and add nothing new or charming and the very few new additions they added were incredibly stupid (like retconning Bobby’s death and doing nothing with it). The other Mario RPG arcs are just as awful to so stay away from them as well. So yeah, I really like Super Mario-kun, but it is an incredibly mixed bag at points either having extremely amazing volumes, or the Mario RPG volumes that I genuinely think are worse than the worst Mario games.
I would also recommend looking at other Mario manga such as KC Mario and the 4koma Mario manga, since they are also pretty cool and don’t really have any low lows unlike Super Mario-kun (though the Mario 4koma manga can get inappropriate sometimes).

@@Jessica_Schweser Yeah it is sad how the Mario RPG volumes are absolutely atrocious. They honestly had a lot of potential to be really great, but it was wasted on generic and empty garbage that skips like at least 75% of the events of the games.
