After installing a head unit with no knob, I 100% agree. It's tolerable if you have working steering wheel controls, but otherwise it's awful. I actually bought a wireless steering wheel control style volume knob and buttons to add because I couldn't stand it so much.
@@802Garage It May be dependent on the car for me personally. My 01 Impreza 2.5rs, the head unit sits low. So hitting the touchscreen volume adjustments takes your eyes off the road. In my civic, I installed a unit that has a volume knob and it’s effortless. I can go up or down without looking away from the road.
@@OldieProductions Hahaha what a coincidence because I'm literally using my 93 Impreza as an example. Both GC Imprezas. 😂 At first installed my touch screen in sort of the middle position, but then when my cup holders were out in the pre-facelift style It was blocking the time and some other important features. So then I moved it down to the lowest slot possible, which makes it much easier to use all the touch screen, and luckily my shifter doesn't really get in the way, but it is super low to look at. Not to mention using the volume touch controls. So I absolutely had to buy an external knob or I was going to go crazy and put in an analog unit again. 😂

Fun Fact, for using the Atoto (More specifically the S8) on the 8th gen civics, if you go the 7 inch double din standard, get a scosche double din kit, and get the YOFUNG AC-HDCR03X-ST (buying this kit for the wire harness), it is practically plug and play, unless the civic comes with an amp then you have to tap a certain wire. Works great though!
What he didn't say is that the F7 is a Linux OS and you cant go to the play store to download apps, like launchers, also you cant set your cars logo for the boot screen, these are small things, but they are things I want, you can do those things with the S8 2nd Gen Standard for much less money then the the Ultra
The OEM Nav head unit for the 9th gen si was pretty nice, i still miss it. And that extra little screen it had next to the speedo. You could upload any image you wanted to the screen, it was neat!

Good stuff! I was about to buy Teyes CC3 recently. I was on their website, chose the exact one I wanted, added the 2K screen, and saw it was almost $400. It was more than I wanted to spend but I knew I was gonna like it... even if I had to wait 10 days to get it from Australia to here in Texas. I hit click to purchase and THEN they gave me the REAL purchase price after the exchange rate, and it was nearly $600. It's hard shopping for these head units bc of the numbers... that is to say there are a huge number of companies making them, some WITH names, some without. AND each head unit comes with a million features, some I want, some I don't, some I don't know of I want, and some I think I want but just found out I DON'T want! You're video just helped me with the last one. I thought I'd like the gesture control, and I probably would. But hearing it is so sensitive it mistakes gestures with everyday movements, helps me out a whole lot! I've been shopping for a head unit for 6 months. Actually ordered and returned 2. But now I think you've finally convinced me what to get! The FX-Se. Thx!

It’s a little bit laggy but for price point and quality, it’s great. Love your videos and all of the knowledge from you builds is helping me with my first project. Keep up the awesome work!

People need to realize there is a F7G2A and a F7G2B VERSION. The "B" version has a capacitive touch screen and touch buttons along the left side instead of physical buttons along the bottom edge.
I have both an S8 g2 and the P8 installed into two separate classic cars. The specs are essentially the same as the 2 in the video. The s Series is full Android whereas the F and P series are Linux based so effective only carplay or Android Auto which can be a little constricting I suppose. Also the S8 G2 has a HD screen while the P8 and the F with the 10" screen are QLED. The P and F series have a little less robust sound hardware but it is for a car so fidelity is not primary. My overall view is QLED screens ARE the way to go and ATOTO makes great hardware! T
For my old 4WD I'm waiting for the next version of P8 to come out in hopes it has a bigger screen option, front cam connection & DVR app & uses Android instead of Linux
Hi I'd installed a 10 in f7 XE ATOTO that was stolen while at my mechanic shop. I know you're comparing the 7WE but probably similar. Like to make a step up to the 8 or go a 7in screen for affordable option. Still have the Atoto back up camera and my IR that I pray are compatible to still use. Be a winner to get your give away... I have a Delica with the F7 SE in right now and its constantly disconnecting from my phone while driving and stops playing music. I just got the S8 Ultra and I'm swapping it out tonight, I figured I should look up if anyone has done something similar before I did it. Thanks for the video! I'd die inside if my dash disintegrated in my hands like your brothers, I broke my cup holder during my install and parts for these aren't the easiest to find haha. One thing that's nice about using CarPlay instead of Android Auto in a Delica (RHD car in general) is the buttons to switch between apps is on the right side of the screen closer to the driver using CarPlay while Android Auto puts them on the left side. Atoto makes steering wheel controls that strap on so you do have to reach to far to the head unit for volume too.
I have the S8 Premium which I bought because it is supposed to have a better screen, (though it looks the same as any Atoto I've seen on RUclips), but like you said, I hate the fact that there are no physical buttons and I would not recommend anyone buy a head unit without them. Also, why is the S8 Premium so huge? The other Atoto units are half the depth. Another complaint is that they are still running Android 10 which I feel is ridiculous. I'm not sure who to blame this one on, Atoto or Amazon but I'm guessing Atoto, the unit I received from Amazon is 1-1/2 years old! WTH? The firmware was so old that I couldn't even get the unit to connect to my phone wirelessly but I couldn't figure out why. After days(!) of fooling around with it I finally realized that I had to do a firmware update on a brand new unit. For $360 I think there are better options than the Atoto S8 Premium.
Hi I was wondering what add ons I would need to use ir in a 2006 w203 mercedes c220 coupe to still have full steering wheel controls iv asked on amazon but there's very little info, iv bought oem clone android light (for lack of a better term ) but for my new to me car I'd like one with more features like the atoto

What I’ve learned after several head unit installs is that having a physical volume knob is KEY. Touchscreen volume adjustment is awful.

For me the Toshiba Class A amp in the S8 Ultra is just miles ahead. I have one and love it, the sound quality and power of the audio is just awesome.

I got the f7 se around a year ago and its still going strong i got it for 150 on sale.

any update on how the head unit is still performing?
It’s pretty good. Only major complaint is that the volume level is significantly quieter when using Apple CarPlay. Pretty annoying.
