It just occurred to me while watching this, left-hand driving like we have in the states is actually advantageous to those who are right-handed when it comes to manipulating controls on the dashboard.
I've just finished installing this in my 2008 9-3 vert. It replaced my Kenwood DMX 8019 DABS. The main reason I got this was the optical output, which I have run to my DSP. What a huge difference it has made going from analogue to digital. I have always been sceptical about android units, but to be honest, nothing has changed with the main brands in terms of features. The boot up time is excellent. One thing I did have to do was modify the back of the connects2 fascia. Just needed to sand it down a little so that the front of the headunit sits against the raised part of the trim, otherwise it'll leave a gap, but that's it. So far, I'm impressed.
I see Atoto do a neat little amp that tucks in behind this unit. Would be interesting to hear about that for those of us starting with older/classic cars and ripping out the original feeble unit. You know, on one of those occasions when you're wondering how to while away the hours ;-)
Thanks to you, I bought the S8 Ultra. Paired it with 4 x 4” Kicker speakers. Have an old Gen 2 Toyota Surf so this is a refreshing upgrade for the SUV. I don’t want to blast the neighbours with loud music, but I would like decent quality sounds. Do you think the preamp in the Ultra is enough or should I be thinking of a separate amp. Wasn’t thinking of adding a subwoofer, but may consider it as these old diesels need a little help on the bass I hear. I hope you or your viewers have time to give some good advice. Many thanks from sunny Montenegro 🇲🇪
@@deserthigh21 haven’t had it installed yet. Will let you know. Also bought an under seat subwoofer and an extra 2 speakers to go above rear window. Certainly old speakers are past it!
Have a 2003 Toyota 4 runner with JBL SUBWOOFER and build in amp. Can I use this existing AMP? Do I need to purchase steering wheel interface or any other wiring?
I've had Atoto S8 Standard installed in my 2002 Ford F150 restomod for a few years now and it has proven itself to be one of the best head units on the market. I didn't care for the gesture controls and purchased the steering controller which is perfect for using with my thumb. The rear 360 view during a back up turn is flawless especially when maneuvering my boat for hook up or launch. There are settings under bluetooth to allow wireless carplay/android auto and as long as my iPhone is in my pocket when getting into the truck, it will connect to carplay automatically. I have RUclipsTV setup on the unit and it, with Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc, play just as well as my TV at home. Next up for purchase will be the front cam and my 2002 competes with the newest cars/trucks for innovation and entertainment.
I have an S8 Pro fitted to my Volvo XC70. It's a great piece of kit. Took a while to fit because of all of the accessories (DAB+ module, front and rear cameras, GPS unit etc). I chose the Pro because the hand gestures seemed like a pointless gimmick, and more USB slots is a better and more useful idea. Only real criticism is the plastic bezel doesn't clip in, it's two-piece and you have to use double-sided tape (Atoto's suggestion) to fix it in place, which doesn't work very well.
I just finished installing an almost entirely ATOTO system in my Lincoln Mark VIII (I'm clearly a glutton for punishment), including their 7" S8 Ultra, CA-AEC02 4 channel amp, component speakers up front with coaxials in the rear, TPMS, USB DVR front and 360° "projection imaging" rear back-up camera system, along with an AudioControl ACM 1.300 mono sub amp and 12" JL Audio low profile sub in a custom enclosure. The Good: The system sounds fantastic, given the price point, and being relatively unfamiliar with the ATOTO brand. It's infinitely adjustable...almost to the point of being overwhelming. The Bad: The instructions are...well....lacking, and from what I gather from others on the web, their support is as well (again, this is just what I've read). One actual problem I ran into, is that when mounting the amplifier directly to the chassis of the HU, there is very little clearance for wiring between them (I had to use RCA 90° adapter jacks for the sub-out and the rear camera cables. Another issue is the apparent low voltage (+/- .5 amp?) output to the sub. Also, the ports for the optical cable connetions are....awkward. Another thing is the front DVR camera refresh rate is slow, though it may well be adjustable in settings (again, lousy instruction manuals). The last item I hated, is the wiring they use is very, very small....perhaps 22 gauge. This worries me for the possibility of future broken wires. Otherwise, the speaker woofer cones appear to be actual carbon fiber (and gorgeous), the magnets are substantial, the component tweeters are magnificent, and the 7" display is crisp, clean, and clear (despite it's listed resolution). Oh, and again, the sound quality is just unbelievable. Bottom line: Would I buy it all again? Absolutely. My only concern is unknown future failures, and ATOTOs reputation for poor customer service.
My ATOTO A6 has gestures. I point my finger and twirl it for the volume. My main complaints are the lack of RAM (which this addresses) and the recessed screen (which unfortunately looks like is still an issue).
Curious about how much this unit consumes in the sleep mode? Important if we leave our cars for unused for moths. I own a PX6 unit and it consumes around 1A in sleep mode which will drain my car battery in 3 days, so I made it go totally off with my ignition, no sleep mode. Many of them will consume a lot in sleep mode.
I have install the Atoto S8 and the radio works great. The question I have is does your radio stay on when you put key in off position? I would like the radio to still work in off position just like the original Saab radio. Thanks for any input.
Hello from Florida, USA. I enjoy your thorough videos and have subscribed to your channel. I have an older (2005 Honda Pilot) and unfortunately, I think I’m limited to a 7” double din upgrade. I’m considering either the ATOTO, Joying, or Teyes head unit. I know you aren’t sponsored and trust your judgement. Which would you recommend? The Teyes is only available in the CC2 Plus in 7”, and the S8 with back up camera is available through Amazon. Same with the Joying units (and you’ve had three). What is your preference?
Thanx for you videos. I would like to know, considering the small section on the back, if this head unit can be mounted on a single din car and if not, what head unit would you recomend for such a car. Thank you.
Thank you for all your hard work and reviews! I've been trying to get my head around what android auto is vs just what an android head unit is. I take it that if I just want to use android auto then I could get away with using one of their lower tier units? I really like the 7inch with buttons design but the problem is that I can't seem to find the answer to whether or not their A6 or F7 variants have the 360° camera feature and I can't tell for sure if anything other than the S8 Ultra has the S/PDIF output (for a 2V preout workaround). Considering my requirements and assuming that I'm happy to use wired android auto, are there any other brands/ models that I should be considering? I wish there was a great big comparison table with ticks and crosses to quickly filter out what I want
How do these atoto units sound when used with a separate amp connected with the preamp outputs? I get these android units have a ton of features, equalizers etc but how is the audio quality compared to a Kenwood, Pioneer, alpine, etc?
I just got done doing this with my truck. Most Chinese Android Stereos (including the ATOTO S8) are awful for aftermarket amplifier setups. You're going to need a line driver such as the AudioControl Matrix Plus to amplify the S8's poor preamp output voltage and to also remove extra noise/interference cause by the poor voltage. The S8's preamp output voltage is only 1.8v to Front and Rear Channels and 0.8v to the subwoofer. This low voltage makes your music sound weak and does not provide a clean signal for most aftermarket amplifiers. Most high quality brand Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, etc provide at least 4v to each channel. It's essential to use a Line Driver to get higher quality music and to remove noise (hissing, clicking, and static). I returned the S8 and installed a Joying that includes a volume knob. You never know how important that volume knob is until it's not available. With the Line Driver my system sounds awesome!
@T Luva Budget and I wasn't expecting to need a Line Driver until I couldn't get rid of the static noise that both the S8 and the Joying Android head unit made even with premium OFC RCA wires. I've never used Skar and just decided to go with AudioControl. If I would've had this knowledge before hand I would've went the DSP route
@T Luva Also does that Skar 7EQ include ground isolating loop to clean up all that static and noise produced by these headunits? That's the main problem...
would you go with ATOTO S8 plus of the Teyes Unit. the only reason that I am leaning toward the Teyes is because it come with a Dash trip for my car so it can look better. Sofware wise withc one is more stabble. I have read a lot where the Teyes software is super buggy and freezes a lot specialy when using the 360 camera. What would you recommend?
Hi, I like the 360 reverse camera. Very smart, ie how it works with just one reverse camera. Unfortunately, it works only with Atoto S8. However, I am curious. I think it might work with any Android 10 headunits as the metal box is doing all the processing, whereas the Android head is just receiving the video input it generates. Since you have the camera and the other headunits, why not give it a shot and share with us? Thanks.
I have already tried this with multiple other head units (because I change the head unit in this car multiple times and rarely change the reverse camera. On all other Android head units it acts as an ultra wide reverse camera, only the S8 has the software required for the 360
Hi there, wich Android unit you think is the best for a skoda Octavia Kombi from 2014? Iwas thinking of Teyes CC3 2k with 360. Do you any suggestions? Or do you think this is the best one? Thank You

Greetings, I really liked your video. I wanted to ask you, how can I put the Led Level Meters on my radio (S8 Ultra) that you put on yours. I liked them a lot.
Video was very well done, I like that you speak highly of the S8! But I and having a hard time parting with that much $$$. Mainly because if the Android 10 operating system and the 32GB storage. Most newer units are Android 13 and are 2+64GB. Granted the proccesor is strong in the S8. After watching your video the wife does like the VSV 360 cam option. I like the built in pre-outs and the sim card option. Don't care for gestures (wouldn't use, have steering wheel controls). So the A6 isn't a option, and again Android 10, Anyway. Buying in Canada so Amazon is helpful. Any opinions to the concerns of operating system and storage?? Any other 7' units that would have a 360 (preferably VsV with one cam.) Going into a 2010 Buick Enclave for reference.
I have yet to see any real Android 13 head units, most of them say they are, but are actually 9 or 10 spoofed to look like 13. There's a few decent Android 12 head units. To be fair though, the version of Android really doesn't make a difference, you can still install whatever you want, you just might need to side-load Netflix of you want that. Storage, again, not really a thing with Android head units because apps take up very little space and you can always plug in a USB storage device or SD card
@@SaabUnleashed Thanks. I ended up with a Eonon GMA12S with the Can Bus and trim for the 2010 Buick Enclave. I wanted the 360 cam and even considered the Ekiy units with 4 cams. But for the money this unit seems fully loaded. The 6+64GB is nice to know its there. Full 5 channel pre outs for future amp(s) install. Sim card capable for mobile data. You have a nice review on the Eonon units so that helped make a decision on the brand. Going this route the screen is a little bigger than the average 7" and It does look factory. No extra chassis mounting kit or aftermarket adapter to buy! Saved about $100 Can. on that alone. Got a OBD II reader and a rearview cam free. The front dvr cam is very reasonable $$ compared to S8 accessories. HDMI out on this unit to if not mistaken. Should be great for my portable touch screen. Arrived in 2 days from Amazon.ca Just installed it basic plug and play. But of course running all the accessory will take a little time. Cameras are coming tomorrow. Plan to get some seat time with it over the weekend.
Was going to play with this a little tonight, But I now have a dead battery. I have seen some units reviews that say the instant on eats battery life. Will have to look into this . Any comment towards a parasitic drain with the Eonon units? Got the battery out and on the charger over night. Will see what happens tomorrow night...
Does the RDS text scroll on the FM presets or does it actually show the station name? I have a eonon and it scrolls RDS text and when you click another preset it leaves weird odd text as the preset caption LOL
Hi thanks for your advice Im in Brisbane Australia any tips on my set up for yellow and red please. How does the phone voice quality compare. My current unit picks up too much background niose and people cant hear me at the other end. Thanks again
hi, based on you reveiws I recently bought the S8 Premium the one below the Ultra, there are some thins that I was not counting on since I have very high expectations for this unit coming from the F7. I wonder if you may know how to change the font size, and the auto night mode? My unit on the display options only apear to have the magnificatrion option and no other. Thanks in advance.
Are you using the rear light harness for your rear camera reverse signal? I see you have a slight flicker while reversing which could be from using the harness negative(brake light interference) Try putting the negative direct to bodywork to solve this.
Just found the channel and I'm watching all the relevant content. Does the 3d Atoto tech work for the front camera also? Debating on what front camera to buy along with my Atoto head unit and OBD2 reader.
The 3D is only on the rear cam, and it's pretty amazing. The front cam is a dvr, and has great imaging as well, but so far, I don't like it's slow refresh rate on-screen.
Speaking of 720p... ATOTO seems to have optimised their UI for 720p with their 10.1-inch floating displays. I have the 8-inch version which is also 720p and it just shows the exact same on-screen elements as the bigger 10.1-inch, which means it's not ideal as it can be too small! I wish ATOTO could advertise their 8-inch 720p as 600p for Android, so it will show me what you see on the 7-inch but bigger, instead of what is shown on the 10.1-inch but smaller.
Would you please do a review on the Plugin amp that AToto has it plug right in to the head unit,Thank you, I have the A6 and thinking about getting it.
Keep the great videos coming, these are the best head unit reviews on the net. I to have a saab 93 face-lift so I'm concerned that the s8 is sunk into the dash. Is there anyway to make it flush with the dash board, and if not could you please suggest another option. Far to many to choose from. Cheers

Audio quality Audio quality?? That's always my concern with Android head units they do everything right except the most important The RCA voltage is low audio quality is usually compromised. Is this the case with the S8
I been waiting for this for so long. They have a 10" version of the product as well with a few better features. One of those is the ability to angle the screen and move it up and down.
The only thing left that could be better is the chip they use for dsp on it. There are medeke pro headunits with AKM chips. If you are using the spdif out to a DSP which I think is a huge feature for this product then it won't matter what chips are used on there as the DAC will be run from your own DSP.

@@jimpowell9205 The internet. Typically SIMs are used in mobile devices to provide call text and data services. In this case, the head unit is actung like a tablet and uses the data services from the SIM
Are you using a CANBus decoder? If so, which one? I'm trying to get one installed in my 2016 VW Beetle. However, to date the only solution I've been able to find which will provide the vehicle information that is displayed on the dash (odometer, trip odometer, MPG, Range, temp, etc...) is to use the iDatalink Maestro ADS-RR. However, that requires an iDatalink port and radio support from iDatalink. ATOTO does not have an iDatalink port nor does iDatalink support ATOTO (a mistake). I'm waiting to hear from Axxess Tech Support to confirm if the AXTC-VW2 will work. Are there any other decoder solutions for the ATOTO?
Atoto units do not have advanced Canbus intergration as far as I'm aware. They only have Key wires looking for different resistances needed for steering controls. You won't get things like Climate control on an Atoto, only with other brands with rx/tx input
I was planning on buying one of these for my ng9-3, it seemed to be exactly what i'm looking for at first. But i have a slight ocd problem with glary/reflective screens and i from what i see in your video and a couple of other videos i watched that the screen, as sharp, colorful and bright looks, also looks very reflective and mirror like? I would not want that on my dashboard. Am i right about this or is it just how it looks on video?
Technically yes, but that Saab 9-5 is equipment with advanced CANbus and the ATOTO is not. That means no steering controls and none of the many other features you get with a head unit with advanced CANbus integration. If you look at my video I did on the 9-5NG replacement head unit, you'll see what I mean. You should buy a head unit that is compatible with the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia as that is what the Saab is based on
Are they still in business? UK Amazon link has items but a lot are gone from US Amazon which has been unusual for the brand. Checked their website and it is very sparse on product. Only model of S8 is the 10" on their site, no info about other models. Several sections say under development. I was looking for some accessories for my S8 Ultra. Was able to find some but they ship direct from China, no other storefront seems available. Just wondering if they are rebuilding, sold out, or closed up if anyone has heard anything. Or is it a US market thing?
Questions? We are looking at this unit for an RV... 1) How well does the Cellular hotspot work with this unit, under traveling (think mobile Office), 2) Can this unit use 4ea Cameras, Front, Rear, and Sides 3) Can you monitor 6ea tires in tire pressure, 4) Is this the a good unit for that or is there another recommendation for head units? Any suggestions are welcomed.
1) Its good 2)No 3)No 4) No head unit allows more than 4 tyres for pressure monitoring, Teyes or Mekede will allow 4 cameras to be connected for 360 viewing even on larger vehicles

Thanks for your reply!
Not really. You need to get a head unit with advanced Canbus intergration. The easiest option is to look for the ones that are compatible with the Opel Insignia, because the wiring is plug and play for the 9-5 NG
Is the S8 standard the same processor, and since the standard is 3Gb rather than 4Gb, will this impact (noticeably) on performance. I'm not interested in hand gestures, and the premium seems to be 10".
Possibly someone here can answer a question and help me out.....I have the Atoto s8 and suddenly when playing audio tracks off the micro sd card, it will play 3-4 seconds of a song then play the next song, it does this continuously. Also the icon for my Android auto has disappeared. I have looked through all pages and not able to find it. I uninstalled and re installed via the play store, but does not appear.
First of all let me start by saying I love your videos, I have an issue that you might know how to fix. I have a 6-cylinder 2010 Chrysler 300C. Before I put the atoto 8 I had an owice 500 that I had previously installed. However with both Android units, both occasions (I had to install the CAN bus PAC) everything works perfectly except if I fade audio to the front, sound disappears. But the main problem is Bluetooth calls. The volume is near non-existent. I have been around computers and cars all my life, but this has me baffled. I've even gone into the developer options on my phone and boosted the volume to maximum. I hope you have a solution?

Another thing is the front DVR camera refresh rate is slow, though it may well be adjustable in settings (again, lousy instruction manuals). The last item I hated, is the wiring they use is very, very small....perhaps 22 gauge. This worries me for the possibility of future broken wires.
Otherwise, the speaker woofer cones appear to be actual carbon fiber (and gorgeous), the magnets are substantial, the component tweeters are magnificent, and the 7" display is crisp, clean, and clear (despite it's listed resolution). Oh, and again, the sound quality is just unbelievable.
Bottom line:
Would I buy it all again?
I would love to see you test voice control. With the fines coming for breathing in a car voice control seems to be more and more important
It would be cool to see what the backup 360 camera looks like when you do a turn while backing up. Or like using it for parallel parking.
It's actually pretty amazing how good the imaging camera is. I love it (so far).
do you recall which ISO connector you used for the 9-3?
Your tire shop must know you well lol always installing new TPMS sensors to test them out lol. Appreciate the reviews.
i think these are similar to ones ive had in the past and just screw on replacing the dust cover on the valve

Besides the gesture and sim capability is the S8 premium any different from the ultra ?

Hello from Florida, USA. I enjoy your thorough videos and have subscribed to your channel. I have an older (2005 Honda Pilot) and unfortunately, I think I’m limited to a 7” double din upgrade. I’m considering either the ATOTO, Joying, or Teyes head unit. I know you aren’t sponsored and trust your judgement. Which would you recommend? The Teyes is only available in the CC2 Plus in 7”, and the S8 with back up camera is available through Amazon. Same with the Joying units (and you’ve had three). What is your preference?
There are so many great once now !! , thanks for the review 😊
would you reccomand this or the teyers CC3 2k? im about to buy a new head unit and i not sure wich to pick out of those 2.
same here but looking at reviews the teyes has alot if firmware problems
Do you have any idea when will an updated 10” S8 be released?
Thanx for you videos. I would like to know, considering the small section on the back, if this head unit can be mounted on a single din car and if not, what head unit would you recomend for such a car. Thank you.
You said "Bench Farts Faster" 🤣
Nothing gets past me
Whats that widget called the sound volume widget ?
Wao what a cool toy, I´ve still my Joying SC9853i Head Unit since 2018 and, never had a problem, but this one is just awesome...
Mine sounds awesome! I’m not even using an extra amp. The onboard amps are actually incredible.
@@DwayneOsborne-sk3lq why not use a DSP or even cheap Skar 7EQ to boost RCA sig??

Arrived in 2 days from Amazon.ca
Just installed it basic plug and play.
Is an adapter required to get the steering wheel controls to work with this head unit?
Hi thanks for your advice
Im in Brisbane Australia any tips on my set up for yellow and red please.
How does the phone voice quality compare. My current unit picks up too much background niose and people cant hear me at the other end. Thanks again
They had that in the BMW x3mc when it released. Good feature.
hi, based on you reveiws I recently bought the S8 Premium the one below the Ultra, there are some thins that I was not counting on since I have very high expectations for this unit coming from the F7.
@SaabUnleashed
What setting is it for the back up camera distance audible beep sound, mine doesn’t have an audible noise as I get closer Ronnie’s.? Thank You 🙏🏻
That doesn't come from the camera. You would need radar reversing sensors

How many tpms sensors can you connect? 6 (dually pickup) more (truck and trailer) hiw far away register (long trailers)?
I been waiting for this for so long. They have a 10" version of the product as well with a few better features. One of those is the ability to angle the screen and move it up and down.
The only thing left that could be better is the chip they use for dsp on it. There are medeke pro headunits with AKM chips. If you are using the spdif out to a DSP which I think is a huge feature for this product then it won't matter what chips are used on there as the DAC will be run from your own DSP.
You are talking about the "[DAH10D/QLED] ATOTO S8 Pro" correct? It seems like you lose the hand gesture controls
@Luke Ballantyne which wouldn't be all bad since I doubt anyone would actually use it

You can buy an OBD2 reader and gain that functionality
Am I correct in assuming that the’SIM’ card slot, is to add another phone (clone), for the same features as car-play, without using your iPhone?
No. It gives the head unit data access so you can run apps like navigation and music ect
@@SaabUnleashed I’m confused. A SIM card is a subscription service interface. But, to what?

Hiya mate, which iso lead did you use for your saab? Got an atoto arriving soon and would like to eliminate guess work
I was planning on buying one of these for my ng9-3, it seemed to be exactly what i'm looking for at first.
It is very reflective
What were the widgets called you had on the screen please.
Hello, Im just wondering will this unit fit in SAAB 9-5 NG 2010? Thank you for a answer!
You should buy a head unit that is compatible with the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia as that is what the Saab is based on
@@SaabUnleashed Thank you so much for your answer, do you have any recomendation for head unit regardles the size of the screen?
Are they still in business? UK Amazon link has items but a lot are gone from US Amazon which has been unusual for the brand. Checked their website and it is very sparse on product. Only model of S8 is the 10" on their site, no info about other models. Several sections say under development. I was looking for some accessories for my S8 Ultra. Was able to find some but they ship direct from China, no other storefront seems available.
Just wondering if they are rebuilding, sold out, or closed up if anyone has heard anything.
Or is it a US market thing?
Questions? We are looking at this unit for an RV...
1) How well does the Cellular hotspot work with this unit, under traveling (think mobile Office),
2) Can this unit use 4ea Cameras, Front, Rear, and Sides
3) Can you monitor 6ea tires in tire pressure,
4) Is this the a good unit for that or is there another recommendation for head units?
Any suggestions are welcomed.
1) Its good
2)No
3)No
4) No head unit allows more than 4 tyres for pressure monitoring, Teyes or Mekede will allow 4 cameras to be connected for 360 viewing even on larger vehicles
