I've been using trekking poles for walking to help my artificial hip replacements last longer. I love walking and my poles help me do hills better and also helps my arms! Thank you for your video! Will check out your poles.

I suffer from knee osteoarthritis. I bought the activator poles and could walk with ease. Earlier I could walk only for 10 minutes without the poles. But after a week I could walk for 25 minutes without any pain or discomfort. BUT after a couple of days, my hip, ribs and back were the very sore especially the right side. I thought I must not have slept correctly. I thought if I use the roller to loosen my back I should be okay. But when I tried the roller, my back seized up and my knee was locked. I could not move. I was advised to stop all exercises and hold on to a wall and lift 1 knee at time and then walk a few steps every 1/2 hour. At first I could move/lift my knee only 3 times. By the end of 48 I move and walk again. So please do not make the same mistake with the poles. I have been advised after a month I can try using the poles again for 5 minutes for a week at home.. Increase 5 minutes every week until I am comfortable walking for 20 minutes before going to the park for a walk. The poles are very comfortable and do no hurt your knees so you feel confident but in the process I activated different muscles SO please take things very slowly.

I was diagnosed with Hemachromatosis in 2002 with a ferritin level of 4300. I was 39. Massive hiker/mtn bike rider, traveller. Despite having freatment every week for 2 years, every 2 weeks for 2 years now every 6-8 weeks, i kept my mtn bike/ hiking up. In 2011 my right ankle collapsed, was told i needed a hip replacement. I had surgery for the ankle (i refused to have it fused), 12 months ago a new hip. I have chronic osteoporosis and arthritis. I bought poles this year even tho my ego said “no”. Lol. Theyve given me confidence, balance, etc. the ankles are stuffed as too the knees. The poles make a great difference. Sadly at 62 i wont be back where i was even 13 years ago, but Im out and about. 😊

Hi there...where on the Urban Polling website does it explain the specific qualities and features of this particular brand of pole. I looked around but could not find anything in writing.

@arthritisadventure Alyssa… I saw your video today (2/4/24) and am grateful for the information. I am 72 and have lower back degenerative discs which keep me from enjoying walking. I have been looking for information regarding use of two poles or perhaps only one. Do you have any advice or data on the use of only one pole? I’m about to take a trip to Europe and concerned about using two poles in crowded urban settings. The poles I have purchased to try out have the straps. I’m finding this feels ok for me. Thanks very much.

I’m studying these poles so I might be able to go for a walk again!
My bone on bone knee doesn’t like walking. Ha
I am afraid that the style in which these poles adjust, will make them rattle. I have a cane that adjusts this way and it makes a noise every time it hits the floor.
    What do you think?
I had thought the ones that have a locking lever might be quieter.
    Thank you!

These poles have both the locking mechanism and the twist lock at the bottom. I’ve found the twist lock helpful to keep them in place so you don’t get the extra noises
