Thanks for the video - I was considering this bag. The issue with the bag slipping is an EASY DIY fix. I use the same trick and many other lightweight backpackers with lots of our slippery nylon gear. All you do is take a tube of clear silicone, press the mouth of the tube against the fabric (in this case, the inside of the strap and possibly the bottom half of the bag, on the side facing inward), squeeze and then lift away from the fabric. The idea is to leave a small, thin dot. Create a pattern of these dots along every part of the surface that will come in contact with your clothing. Don’t make the dots large - you want them to provide the grip to prevent sliding, but you do NOT want to make them so prominent that your buckle won’t slide when/where you need it to. Let the silicone dry for 36-48hrs and your slipping problem will be 100% solved. Hope this helps someone! The maker ought to do this but it’s such an easy fix that I wouldn’t let it keep me from purchasing it.
how is it slipping on you? i have the slippery xpac and it stays i also have a different sling bag made with ballistic nylon and they also don't slip i guess you could get a bag with a breathable back fabric maybe that will work? while comfortable that is my CON for this bag the back is not made of mesh/breathable fabric and the straps are HARD. my other cheaper bags use some sort of soft smooth seatbelt like material. with the same magnet buckle you don't hate. but they are made of some nylon material with a thick face its almost rubbery. feels good but it's not xpac. it doesn't have hi visibility orange interior.
Good review It's amazing how many people don't mention how their sling bags ride on their body. You explained how it slides around very well, and maybe convinced me to look at other options.
@@Criticalmaze no problem. It's so called gaffer's tape. That kind of tape does not leave a lot of glue residue and is therefore used a lot in the film industry. Here is a link on Amazon Germany, but you should be able to find similar tape in your country amzn.to/3MSkysL
Wish I had seen this before buying. Having a lot of trouble with the sliding around on my body. Did you ever find a way to address this or have any ideas on how to modify the bag to make it better? The biggest problem is that as the strap slides up along my shoulder to my neck.. and then it rotates around my body, it starts to grate my neck :( my first day wearing it it looked like I had been choked out lol.
I agree with others: teleprompter worked great. If it makes your life easier, keep using it! Regarding sling bag size: a larger one is useful for travel when relying on a single travel backpack. You can wear a 6 or even 9L sling on the front to keep items in reach and safe while wearing a larger travel bag on your back. For daily use, I agree that a smaller sling is ideal. I’ve relied on the Day Sling 2 for that and haven’t been bothered by it slipping, as you have. I carry a GR3 and GR3x plus essential items with ease.
That's a good usecase. But with a backpack the strap of the sling would be kept in place perfectly. So I will definitely keep this trick in mind for my next travel. Thanks
I have the Aer Day Sling 3 Max and the fidlock is the worst. I had it zip tied for awhile but when summer came and I was wearing loose clothing the zip tie would rub against my arm even though it was trimmed very short and filed down. I’m sending it back but not sure what else to get since I love this bag.
I totally agree about the Fidlock and other magnetic or quick-release buckles/straps. I notice this trend when researching my current sling and wondered immediately why anyone would want that. A bag should NEVER accidentally fall off your body, especially one which might hold things that don't take falls very well (like cameras), and since it's already so easy to put a sling on over your head, it just seems like the risk far outweighs any benefit.
Thanks for the comment. Totally agree. Pulling a sling over the head is just the one thing that doesn't always work for me though. On a motorcycle I can't always pull it over my head. Either because I am wearing a helmet or because the armor inside my jacket makes arm movement difficult. That is why I like a regular buckle on the strap.
@@Youknowthebo Ah, that makes sense and I hadn't thought of that. For me, because I knew I'd be carrying a camera, your tape idea was the first thing I thought of when I saw that these style of clasps closed with magnets.
I always thought my slingbags shouldnt be bigger than 3l. Until i found the trakke largo - its 5.5l and the most comfortable sling ever. Also the cobra buckle is just awesome
Thanks for the review Bo. Did not notice the teleprompter at all. :) I've been eyeing this bag since its release and I think you're the first to mention how slippery the bag is. Half a dealbreaker to me, and unfortunate about that kind of fidlock / magnetic buckle as well, since I'm planning to start riding motorcycle for work. So what would you recommend as alternative to the Day Sling 3? I think the Heimplanet Pocket Sling XL could be worthy. That's another one that I've been looking at reviews. Would you recommend the Heimplanet over the Aer?
Yeah, the Heimplanet is a solid option. The buckle is very secure. And the pocket sling is small enough to not slide around due to weight. And if you don't mind a bit sliding around the the pocket xl is amazing. It was my favorite slingbag in 2021
Appreciate very much your honest review. I also agree the fidlock has design issues. (I dont own one but can imagine this major flaw of an otherwise brilliant design.) I have a suggestion. Instead of taping up yr fidlock buckle, how about this … look for a suitable sized bicycle rubber inner tubing , cut a length say 2.5inches, push the open buckle thru the tubing, lock the buckle, then pull the inner tubing over the fidlock closed buckle. It shld be very secure, becos of the rubber friction over metal. Its a quick solution like rubber band, only neater. Furthermore , its black tubing - perfect color match. Another solution is use a velcro or button type bag handle keeper , those short leather straps that keep bag handles together. Find a way to attach those over the buckle.
Great review!! You raised some very interesting points that will effect my purchase decision! Also, great job with the teleprompter, you're only going to get better as time goes by!!

I actually don’t like fidlocks (not sure if I spelled it right) but is it too hard to slip the strap over your head? lol. I own most of the Alpaka bags, slings and tech briefs and never use the magnetic buckles.
I agree with you completely on the fidlock and other such magnetic locks. They look cool and all but open when you're not expecting them too -and therefore fail as a "fastener"
I really like the small Heimplanet pocket sling. It doesn't have a quick release, but it is very secure. And due to its smaller size it is also not as prone to sliding around
Can’t say I’ve had any issue with the Fidlock on my Day 3 Max, but I also tend to wear it more messenger style than crossbody so maybe that’s a factor… I tighten it for bike rides but I tend to adjust positions by scooping the bag rather than pulling the strap too so I never really get close to touching the lock.
Yes, keep using your teleprompter as you want (BTW, you work it well). I don't like Fidlock or the magnetic types either and probably won't buy anything with one. I am leaning toward a 3L sling at this time; however, I haven't yet decided. Thanks for your review. Perhaps you could review the AER Day Sling 3 X-Pac, I would like to know your thoughts on the different materials and whether they would not slide under your arm in the same way. Take care.
100% agree with 2L slingbags. That is definitely the sweet spot. Great review, as always! Regarding the teleprompter, I couldn't tell. It doesn't sound like you are reading something so I say keep doing it if it makes it easier for you.
Hm, I had zero issues with fidlock and I like it. I also had zero issues with sliding, although I don't like that sling is not very close to the body if I wear it on the front.
This sling bag shifting is quite common so I have bags from Alpaka Gear that offer a magnetic stabilizer strap option ($25 USD). It works very well and I have used it when I ride my motorcycle as shifting loads can cause problems on the move. The website even shows a motorcyclist using the stabilizer strap.
Yeah, a stabilizer strap is a good idea. But for me I then don't know if I should not just go ahead and use a small backpack. I might try to wear a slingbag as a fanny pack in the future whenever I am on a bike.
Just my opinion. A sling bag is not designed to be carried in the front while moving around , it’s designed to be carried at the back and you access it from the front.
The fidlock issue is unfortunate. There are better fidlock options that are way more secure available now. I think it would be cool to see Cobra buckles as well.
I totally didn't know you were reading off a teleprompter. Well played, Bo! Do what you need to do to hit the production quality in your own mind's eye, though personally, I've loved your production and editing since the early days. 💪🍻

I couldnt tell you were reading a teleprompter. Great review. I always find myself watching all these videos but having a hard time deciding on a sling to buy. The search continues.
Magnets seem to be jumping into bags for so many bags these days, often with minimal use. Another flaw for me, particularly for pocket closures, is their impact on mechanics watches. I’ve ruled out a few bags now due to not wanting to damage my watch.
Magnets definitely can damage or at least influence automatic watches. Never thought about this I regards to fidlocks though, just because they don't seem to be that strong
@@Youknowthebo yeah. Anecdotal but my friend’s watch was magnetised by the magnet in his MacBook. It’s not hard to demagnetise but I’d rather avoid it. To be honest, I watched your other Fidlock video and magnetism combined with accidental release out me off getting the Day Sling. I went for the Trakke Banana instead, as it had a metal buckle similar to the Heimplanet. Very happy with the choice as, whilst it’s 3 litres, it compresses down very slim when empty.

Thanks for pointing out that sliding issue. It'll be terrible for me when I'm riding a bicycle. Need more reviews pointing out huge flaws in bags. I love my Alpaka Elements backpack but it weighs about a kilo when completely unloaded. Makes for a horrible choice when I'm carrying 4kg+.
Thanks. I like to concentrate on negatives, just because I believe they are more important for you to know. With that knowledge you can easier decide if you can live or work around them.
I assumed companies avoided stickier fabrics on slings so people wouldn’t complain that their slings wrecked their clothing. Merino wool would be susceptible to abrasion, for instance.
@@Youknowthebo AER City Sling X-pac the belt is made differently. It was possible to replace the buckle without a sewing machine. But it was difficult.
Aer is just jumping on the trend. Everyone loves magnetics, especially when they are incorporated into a bag, unfortunately the type of magnetic they choose doesn't seem like a good fit. This is the same for the Travel Pack line where the magnetic compression strap has become detached. Even if the bag costs a bit more, I would of preferred a much more secure buckle. I do agree with bag sliding around to the side. I ride a sports bike and its even worst for me with the more aggressive position lol.
Hello Bo. I notice nothing, just paying atention in what you were saying. I definetly prefer smaller sling bags. Aer usually is top, but you made very good points. A bag must be tried on everyday use, feeling is very important. I like the tape solution, but when being on terraces I usually attach bags to the chair, for further security against thieves.
I use the Bellroy sling and the magnetic lock is not bad. But I wouldn't use it for cycling in general. I tend to prefer a small backpack or a messenger bag with stabiliser strap when on a bicycle. The sling bag slipping itself is the more annoying factor for my situation. I do have a sling with no maglock which is my favourite. I bought it in Japan a long time ago and have not seen a similar one since.
It's gaffers tape. The benefit of gaffers tape is, that you can easily remove it without leaving any residue. Gaffers tape is used for photography, film making or events. It's more expensive than duck tape, but again is much more recommend if you want to use it on gear for instance
I know you're right about Fidlocks from a practicality standpoint but I just don't care. I love those things. The one on my X-POD sling makes the bag feel like it's from the future. But then I don't ride a motorcycle so it's not as big a deal for me if it comes loose.
Yeah, you are right: they are quite futuristic and cool. And I guess if you are aware of their potential downside, you can work around them accidentally opening
Bo, thanks so much for this review. I recently bought the City Sling 2 and definitely agree on the sliding around part, but man I still love it so much (it's my first sling to boot). Would love to see a video with mods you can make to stop it from sliding e.g. by putting a coating on it or other solutions, if you happen to know any. Also, do you know if any resellers in EU are selling Aer? I ended up buying mine from a UK online reseller, but would definitely love to see a reseller in Germany or Scandinavia. Thanks again, and didn't mind the teleprompter at all. Agree with the other commenter that because you have so much b roll it's not really noticeable.
The City sling is great. In my experience it's not as bad in terms of sliding around compared to the day sling. You can check out keus and mukama. They are both in EU and have some aer stuff if I remember correctly
Honestly I had no idea you were reading off a teleprompter. I think because you sprinkle your videos with so many different shots of the product in question, while you are talking over the video, you talking in person does not actually make up a majority of the video length. I think if you were to start posting videos where it's just you talking in front of a video for 15+ minutes, then I'll probably suspect there's a teleprompter in front of you. Other than that, great job, I thought you read off the teleprompter very naturally.👍
tomtoc t21 is 9.45oz versus the heavier aer day sling 3 xpac: 13.79oz. i chose tomtoc, lighter, more compact, fits the body better, half the price, zipper opens easier. looks better in my opinion, doesn't have issues with buckle. aer seems over built for my use case of light city walking. Because it's half the price, I can buy the larger tomtoc 11 inch version for days when I need more capacity. I can have 2 of these bags for about the same cost of the aer bag. I have them all here to try, but for me in person it's clear which one I want to keep and which to return. I have to travel to the SF aer store tomorrow to return before my 14 day return window ends.

Great review. Did not notice teleprompter.
Thanks, Mary
Yeah I couldn't tell that you were reading off a prompter at all. 👍🏽
Thanks for the reply, Jacob ✌️😉
Thanks for pointing out that sliding issue. It'll be terrible for me when I'm riding a bicycle.
Need more reviews pointing out huge flaws in bags. I love my Alpaka Elements backpack but it weighs about a kilo when completely unloaded. Makes for a horrible choice when I'm carrying 4kg+.
Thanks. I like to concentrate on negatives, just because I believe they are more important for you to know. With that knowledge you can easier decide if you can live or work around them.
nope didnt notice the teleprompter!
I assumed companies avoided stickier fabrics on slings so people wouldn’t complain that their slings wrecked their clothing. Merino wool would be susceptible to abrasion, for instance.
I immediately changed the buckle to COBRA (FY38KVV) in my City Sling X-Pac
Cool. Do you own a sewing machine or did you stitch it by hand to attach the buckle?
@@Youknowthebo AER City Sling X-pac the belt is made differently. It was possible to replace the buckle without a sewing machine. But it was difficult.
No, didn't notice any teleprompter 👍
Thanks, for the reply 👍
Aer is just jumping on the trend. Everyone loves magnetics, especially when they are incorporated into a bag, unfortunately the type of magnetic they choose doesn't seem like a good fit. This is the same for the Travel Pack line where the magnetic compression strap has become detached. Even if the bag costs a bit more, I would of preferred a much more secure buckle.
I do agree with bag sliding around to the side. I ride a sports bike and its even worst for me with the more aggressive position lol.
Thanks for the comment. Just out of curiosity : what bike are you riding?
@@Youknowthebo Suzuki GSXR 750. Safe riding!
Great bike 👍
Thanks, Jose. Aer make cery good bags. And attaching the bag to a chair is a good solution. I do that as well.
I don’t mind the slide too much but the fidlock is a dealbreaker.
Yeah, but the gaffers tape is a pretty solid workaround
Didnt notice it at all mate. If its easier for you, go for it! 👍🏻👍🏻 (telep)
Thanks, Peter 👍😉
No, didn’t notice teleprompter, looked natural
Thanks for the feedback
bag review and dance instruction video all in one.... thank you
😂 😂 😂 😂 You're very welcome. Thanks for watching
What kind of tape is that?
It's gaffers tape. The benefit of gaffers tape is, that you can easily remove it without leaving any residue. Gaffers tape is used for photography, film making or events. It's more expensive than duck tape, but again is much more recommend if you want to use it on gear for instance
I have had fidlocks open when riding my motorcycle also... rather have a more secure buckle....
I hope you never lossed a bag whilst riding?
@@Youknowthebo No I noticed it as I wear it under my jacket......
Habe tatsächlich nicht bemerkt, dass der Text abgelesen wird. Gutes Video!
Danke sehr ✌️ 😊
It's funny. I alway find sticky bags (Codura 1000/500) make my delicate clothing fuzzy.
Yeah, that is the downside of stickier fabrics unfortunately.
@@Youknowthebo great, thanks a lot 🙌
cant see the teleprompter reading
Thanks for the feedback, Tim
Couldn’t tell u were reading off a teleprompter
Thanks for the feedback, ✌️😉
Honestly I had no idea you were reading off a teleprompter. I think because you sprinkle your videos with so many different shots of the product in question, while you are talking over the video, you talking in person does not actually make up a majority of the video length. I think if you were to start posting videos where it's just you talking in front of a video for 15+ minutes, then I'll probably suspect there's a teleprompter in front of you. Other than that, great job, I thought you read off the teleprompter very naturally.👍
Valid point. Thanks for the feedback ✌️😉
since you are already using tape, why can't you just put a little bit of grip tape on the back of your aer bag so that it does not slide?
To solve the problem this is an interesting idea. But grip tape would damage all of your clothing. Therefore I would advise against this modification
tomtoc t21 is 9.45oz versus the heavier aer day sling 3 xpac: 13.79oz. i chose tomtoc, lighter, more compact, fits the body better, half the price, zipper opens easier. looks better in my opinion, doesn't have issues with buckle. aer seems over built for my use case of light city walking.
