I’ve been doing a variation on that Marilyn tip on my own - I spritz my finished look (before or instead of setting spray) with witch hazel based toner in a spray bottle, wait for it to set down into a “mask” and then firmly press, not wipe, a tissue over the face to pick up as much I can before finishing with a spray if I want to lock that in. It’s great for a natural look.
Taylor Swift does a variation of this. Kind of a random one off I read somewhere but she said she always blots off her foundation with a tissue. I personally use a clean, dry blending brush to blend everything out which always ends up taking off some foundation

You make my soul happy every upload I followed u and was just so happy u came to RUclips to share ....your knowledge......there are things I have collected for years makeup and hair antiques ...plus ancient artifacts I only have a few Egyptian mainly and keeping a true love for old Hollywood. The stories ...Tricks... tips things I feel has been lost ..I've study ancient civilizations and Old Hollywood for 20 years amateurly ...A professional makeup Artist and cosmetologists has been my profession but I did go back to school just for the knowledge....history rituals and beauty is my life interest...funny mix people say ...I maybe digging in the dirt one day and the next in a wig and red highheels...you are cut from the same cloth I feel..Thanku for these videos ❤
I LOVE you SOOOO much! This video is probably my favorite so far because I am the only person I know who keeps a cable subscription just so I can watch TCM on demand! And I mostly watch films from roughly 1935- 1945, and let’s be honest, 37- 42 are the BEST years… give me Joan (Crawford, Fontaine & Blondell), give me Bette, Jean, Olivia, Rosalind, Lana, Katherine, Glenda, Jimmy, Cary, Franchot, Clarke, Errol, the trio of Roberts… Taylor, Montgomery, Young…. Girl, you know. It just makes my heart so happy to know that someone else loves that old golden age where they didn’t have to use sex, violence or profanity to make a great film, and don’t get me wrong, I’m down with some sex, violence and profanity… but they kept it classy! Thank you for what you’re doing!
I used to perform outdoors a lot in the heat and after the show I would notice the sweat would really meld everything together and I would look so flawless and well rested, so now I set my make up twice with really water. I spritz it all over, wait for it to dry, then spritz again. Sometimes going over everything with the makeup sponge also helps even it all out depending on how much foundation I have on that day.
High school in the mid 1970’s. One of my girlfriends had a Mom who followed Old Hollywood glamour since the Mom was young in high school. She taught us almost all of these tricks. Separating the eyelashes with a needle was a BIG BEAUTY TIP that we loved and continued to use. IDK why it was popular in the 80’s as you said in your video but we were doing this back in 1972! £❤¥€ your videos, @ErinParsonsMakeup ❤❤❤ YOU are ICONIC! 😍
This was fun! Love these tips. I have a star stamp that I use to make a star on my face when I'm feeling extra. Love your channel can't believe I just recently found you. Love the vintage looks!
Absolutey adore this video!💕 I'm 53 & started using every cosmetic I could get my hands on in the 80's as a teen. My mom raised us on old Hollywood movies and was always telling me about tips she'd heard thru the years that old Hollywood stars used. Of course, I tried to incorporate them into my 80's routine. I thought the Marlene Dietrich soot eyeshadow was an absolute genius trick. I heard she invented it during World War 2 while on the road supporting the troops & makeup was scarce. Long story long, lol, depending on how much vaseline I used or how sweaty I got in gym class, it worked really well...sometimes!😄 Love your channel!🥰
Your work as an artist, influencer and vintage lover is mesmerizing!! I already learned so much about beauty history and makeup tips!! You are one in a million, congrats!!
Also I feel like perhaps the vintage max factor panstik had a more oilier consistency making it easier to take off with a tissue simply by patting it as Marilyn described, but this Krayolin tv stick is very dry and matte, I have this one so I know it’s really matte. Also the modern pan stick is also not that matte. So maybe Erin you can try with max factor ? 😊
I actually don’t find it matte. 😊 but not radiant either - I have the old pan sticks and the texture seemed very similar to me. But maybe I’ll do a video using an actual Panstik from that time. Hopefully it won’t affect my skin eek! But I’m curious to see the difference. Also I’ve seen pics of Marilyn at her makeup table with the Panstik product so I do believe she would have used it exactly. I even have a quote from whitey on which color 🤩
Wow, this was such a nice surprise that you actually put everything on, I thought it would just be a talk through! And I just feel like there's a woman in the world wearing teeth earrings really lifted my spirit
STUNNING , INTERESTING. TALENTED. RELEVANT. EDUCATIONAL. ON POINT TO THE LAST DETAIL. ENJOYABLE. PERSONAL. WATCHING YOR VIDEOS IS PURE JOY ERIN. sorry i really had to use caps because i am saying it very loud. never stop. big love
I really appreciate your warm vocal quality and passion for make-up artistry. They lured me in! AND...even though it can be dangerous if you don't go gentle and slow, I separate my lashes with a small safety pin as needed. The lashes have to be wet though and I find it works best if you are mixing 2 different mascaras (which I do often). I will be trying a few of these, that soot eyeshadow is sexy but understated. Thanks for the intel, sis! 💗✨
I totally loved seeing the beautiful glamour these actresses had! Please do more of these for us history buffs. Erin, you have ignited my interest in Hollywood Glamour!

Love getting glam. Worked in the fitness industry, often w 1 clients/day or teaching classes. Never had time or energy for the glow up, so now making ups for lost time!
I love learning about the history of jewelry as a jewelry artist, perfume as a fragrance lover, but I didn't know much about cosmetics aside from kohl and lipstick so thank you for the education. Amazing how self-adornment is almost as old as our species. When I worked for Dior some Eastern European women went crazy over a bright orange lipstick, I can't remember if it was a Chanel or YSL color from the 1990s - probably YSL, they put it on their lips and rubbed it on their cheeks so enthusiastically I admired their boldness. At the time I just wore Chapstick and concealer, but still don't wear much makeup because I don't have the right face for it, though I would if I could pull it off. I love the disco teeth earrings!
I love old movies! My favourite costume designer is Edith Head. Talk about glamour! Now you are adding this other dimension to my enjoyment. I love your approach to makeup and what you bring to your channel. Thank you Erin ❤

yes! the pin for mascara, and, we were doing our blush this way back in the 70's-80's too. i still do it this way. we were serious / clueless sun lovers back then so we were probably more baked, lol... ;) and re: the blush, since i'm olive, i have always preferred this method using tawny's, reds, and mauves instead of the typical current "contour shades". most of the time, tawny just seems to be the right shade of contour for me. maybe this info will help some other olives out there! :D love your content Erin!!!

Every Erin vid is so thoughtful and informative! love it.
That soot eyeshadow is AMAZING!!!
Erin is the best! She incorporated tips from starlets of various ethnic backgrounds, not just white chicks.
It’s absolutely incredible how you tied EVERY tip together and it looks cohesive and gorgeous.
I love these hairstyles! So creative! Wish we still did stuff like that!
I mean you still can. What’s really stopping you?
@Under Construction Time, putting the money into the supplies, and living in a modern world. 🤷♀️
The list could go on why faster hairstyles have to be done for me, personally.
That's why we don't tell strangers what they can and can't do. Because we don't know them. Lol
I'm not a Hollywood starlet either. So I don't have anyone doing it for me.
Howard Hughes had a lot to do with this look due to his casting of Jean Harlow in his film, "hells angels"! Howard Hughes truly had incredible taste when his ocd wasn't fully taking over his psyche!
I absolutely love this, makes so happy to see you enjoy the process, and the make up of course looks incredible ❤
I love how you have fun with colour in your clothes and make up, you mix warm and cool colours effortlessly which is actually really tricky! ❤
Love you Erin! Thank you for all that you do so diligently! I would love to see you in Liz Taylor glamor from the 50s 😏💕💕💕
I’d definitely love to try that! I actually have a couple of her wigs 😍
When people embrace their hobbies, we end up with awesome content like this!! So glad she’s doing what she’s doing
I’m a huge fan of Erin and all of her looks! You rock Erin! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻✌️💕
Love that you used tips from celebrities with different ethnicities. Love Dolores del Rio 🇲🇽
You very quickly became my favourite RUclipsr and not just because we both love Marilyn Monroe so much. I love your whole vibe and how educational and fun your videos are ❤
Thank you so much for highlighting talent like Josephine Baker, makes me so happy to see such diversity of old Hollywood beauty on your channel ❤
The diversity has always been out there. The very first beauty book I read as a 14yr old was The Leslie Uggams Beauty Book. It was for everyone and had gorgrous photos of her.
Wow! I’ve been ‘steaming’ makeup as a setting method for YEARS and had no idea it was a thing.
Mad props for rock’n those Josephine Baker curls!
I love Erin so much. Erin is my makeup idol she isn't problematic at all too which i LOVEE
I agree!
didn’t she buy some Egyptian comb or instrument of sorts which should rightfully be in Egypt and was stolen?
@@whyhihigh she returned that. So plz don’t spread hate here. Also she was very respectful, the way she never sampled any of Marilyn’s original lipstick should demonstrate that, and you should know better !
@@whyhihigh not sure but even if she did she could've bought it from someone in egypt? Idk honestly
Everyone is problematic. Don’t set unrealistic standards for people that they can’t live up to
I love the darker blush #60! I have used a similar color for years. The mascara before you separated the lashes was giving Twiggy vibes!
You are exactly the kind of beauty inspiration I need in my life! You taught me how to use makeup better and not just buy more. (Although I do like getting new makeup 😅)
This was amazing! Thank you for putting this together! And of course, your makeup turned out gorgeous
Loving your channel so much! Your deep research and attention to detail is super appreciated. You're inspiring me. 💛
I see you rockin those doll chunk earrings 🎉🎉🎉🎉 ❤❤❤
Erin, this was so good! I appreciate the work you put into these videos. Those earrings and the nails matching the lips are everything!
That lip shade with that eye smoke!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
You have become one of my favorites RUclipsrs! Keep being amazing, doll!
I love how you dive straight into topic without a long intro. you have a lovely channel, thank your for sharing your knowledge
Love your charisma, your voice, everything! You're so calming and your videos are engaging
I ADORE your videos! Never stop! ❤❤❤
Is anyone else getting Sharon Tate vibes with Erin’s eyes? 🤩😍
I can see that 😊
Your work as an artist, influencer and vintage lover is mesmerizing!!
@@erinparsonsmakeup I’ve noticed that mehron creme sticks are a little more oily than kryolan. I wonder how that would work 🤔
Oh lord she breaking out the pan sticks 😂
Wow this is my favorite look. The Yellow lavender and coral on your skin tone is stunning
ENJOYABLE. PERSONAL. WATCHING YOR VIDEOS IS PURE JOY ERIN. sorry i really had to use caps because i am saying it very loud. never stop. big love
I used to do the needle technique years ago. I felt it worked better than lash comb as it didn’t take of any mascara. Just separated lashes. 🥰😊
I love all the makeup tips & tricks of Hollywood icons being a black & white movie lover!
I also love your molar earrings!
Thank you for all that you do. I know it is hard work but let me tell you that we appreciate you so much. You brought back what the beauty community needed ♡ genuine love for our community that was loosing touch.
Where have you been all my life! The highlight of my day is when I get to watch a new video or TikTok from you.
I have to say I’m so glad you made a RUclips and started posting here. I really love these longer form videos so i appreciate you bringing some content for us!
I’m a guy that doesn’t wear makeup, but I sure love history as well as art. Came across your video of a reel about Marilyn Monroe, and love that we have a mutual friend with Mr. Julien in common. Makeup is truly a form of art, and I absolutely love learning not only the history, but watching your intricate techniques. You’re a true expert in your craft and can’t wait to see more videos of you!
Stunning without the makeup and stunning with the makeup! This is the best beauty Chanel right now! ❤️❌⭕️
Love the range of women you mention. Gets me excited learning about classic beauties and their techniques.
You are the one and only in the beauty community saying or doing something different. congratulations.
I love old movies! My favourite costume designer is Edith Head. Talk about glamour! Now you are adding this other dimension to my enjoyment. I love your approach to makeup and what you bring to your channel. Thank you Erin ❤
erin, you are literally my absolute favourite makeup artist, i finished my diploma in beauty therapy and for the makeup units you inspired me so much and i used the technique’s you do, you’re an icon and i love all the makeup history you share with us💘
yes! the pin for mascara, and, we were doing our blush this way back in the 70's-80's too. i still do it this way. we were serious / clueless sun lovers back then so we were probably more baked, lol... ;) and re: the blush, since i'm olive, i have always preferred this method using tawny's, reds, and mauves instead of the typical current "contour shades". most of the time, tawny just seems to be the right shade of contour for me. maybe this info will help some other olives out there! :D love your content Erin!!!
Those amazing pictures of Norma when she was still a movie vixen/ home wrecker character!! Love.
Adding Swiss Kriss to the face steam water will also tighten the skin and really refresh the eyes for people with "bags".
I’m not even a hair or makeup person but I just find you absolutely fascinating!
i love how you get straight to the point
Erin, you are simply fascinating! You pay such respect to the past, and by doing so, you enlighten and educate the present, and you do it brilliantly.
The algorithm recommended me a stunning lady wearing one of the best looks I've seen in a long time who's talking about super interesting stuff????? It's a lucky day!!!!
