I would pay good money to see you travel the world for a documentary series, talking to people from different countries about beauty and visiting important historical sites related to beauty history. You're a great host and educator Erin :)
It would be my ultimate dream 🥹 I have always loved doing makeup but I honestly love beauty history more. Until it happens I’ll continue to bring this content on RUclips 🤗
I'm currently on a train in Sydney watching this. I just had an elderly lady tap me on the shoulder, and she she said, "Oh, Ive got some compacts from back then "! She opened her bag, and showed me the most beautiful compact. If I hadn't been watching, I never would've seen it! And, yes, it WAS from the 1920's!
This is what I love about Erin; she's not some "influencer" simply doing a makeup challenge, she is a professional makeup artist who is sharing her passion by teaching and educating us about the history of makeup, makeup techniques and products (aka Beauty History)!
@@erinparsonsmakeup I can agree with that statement; I have noticed myself trying to keep an eye out for vintage makeup products at flea markets that have art deco designs or vintage look to them.
The fact that Joanne was so excited to show someone their beautiful collection because nobody wants to see it honestly shocked me! I would be drooling over them in person 😂❤
It's amazing how these are in such good condition! They obviously handled them with care because they know how important it is to preserve the history behind these compacts
Things were made with great care back then and the enamel artists were masters of their trade. Enamel holds up very well through the ages so it's not such a mystery why these compacts look so splendid 100 years after they were made.
It's so interesting how people viewed makeup before, and the differences/similarities in how we view it now. It truly is an artform, from packaging to the way it's applied. Thank you Erin!

I know it was very interesting 🤔 I have a lot of books regarding material culture of the time but usually getting more into granular everyday items like a compact and it’s individual evolution in time really reveals a lot about women, society and cosmetics than is explicitly written. Hearing from the collectors and Erin was interesting and I look forward to my book in the mail 😁
Erin, you are such a gracious human. The respect you show to the people you interview is a breath of fresh air. You do your research, you've read their books, and ask such well thought out questions. When she says "This is so much fun, no one is ever interested in our compacts!" just shows how much joy you bring to so many. I've pointed you out to couple of people at National Geographic and The History channel as I think they would be very interested in your work.

Yes! I am thrilled to see anything Art Deco. I grew up in Miami in the 50's, my dad's medical office was at 16th Street and Meridian Ave. As a kid and adult, i loved the hotels and architecture and of course those wonderful colors. Very Interesting. I am more the type that isn't interested in collecting but I really enjoy the information and the history of it. It was amazing getting to see Erin connect with them. You could see the appreciation in both woman's eyes and that was beautiful. Thanks Jo Anne and Howard 😊
Wow what a collection ! Those compacts are truly works of art-- so colorful, with such original designs. I wish elaborate, refillable makeup containers were a thing today.
When I tell you this gave me chills! Itches just the right spot in my brain😂. I grew up with my grandparents and my Grandmother was very much a collector so this is EVERYTHING for me.
As a makeup artist myself, i love all forms of makeup, the packaging the thought behind it, the experience. But nothing compares to the craftsmanship of yesteryear. Things were meant to be cherished, and kept for generations. So beautiful. I love coming along on your journey Erin thank you for the love you put in.
🎉These are stunning!!!! I also think about just how personal every compact is to the woman that uses it. They truly are a reflection of our culture. Thank you for sharing this herstory of cosmetics.
I love learning the history, behind these gorgeous pieces. Also, I love that you are sharing your knowledge with everyone. I feel like I got a sneak peek, into someone's treasures. I've always wanted to collect vintage makeup and beauty products, but didn't really know where to look or where to start. Compacts, tick all the boxes for me and I'm gonna start saving my pennies now. Perfume bottles, have always caught my eye too. When my Grandma passed, we found a HUGE collection of Avon perfume/ cologne bottles. I knew she had a few on her vanity that I always admired, but I didn't know she had such a huge collection stored away. My Grandma's vanity, started my love of makeup and beauty products. I remember sitting at her vanity, being amazed at all the pretty things she had. She would have liked your videos, as much as I do. 💛
Hiya Erin, thanks for yet again another fab video filled w/ not only beautiful, useful beauty items but the history and intricacies of these items. It’s very much appreciated! Much love! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️
Thank you for the great interview and for showing us all those beautiful compacts! And thank you Howard and Jo Anne for sharing your collection with us!
I just love how you turn “ makeup “ and beauty into a subject that can engage lovers of design or history. I am certain you have expanded the interests of many. You are truly amazing. I have had a difficult few years and decided to look into recapturing my sense of self… and learn about makeup. Now my appreciation of beautiful objects and history has grown. I have a beautiful peacock compact that I bought years ago and you have made it more treasured. I am still going through my mother’s personal items and it has turned from tedious into “ oh this is interesting “. I would love for you to do a video on “ if you are new/ or starting over” makeup and products. Previously I was very natural and loved the occasional all out glam 1Mardi Gras ball makeup. All of the products and techniques seem overwhelming . Thank you for your polite and beautiful videos.
I know where to offer anything I come across that's vintage makeup related... It's nice to see someone who is so passionate about a topic and draws ppl into the topic as well.... Someone who doesn't know about our care about makeup would absolutely be drawn into the topic just by your genuine passion and curiosity
What a beautiful collection...i love what they have done making a book and what you are doing showing the world the beauty (not just on the face) and history of makeup..it's so fascinating...what a stunning collection, i would be so afraid of sneezing or tripping around those compacts lol ❤️
What a truly wonderful glimpse of the past. Sincere thank you to the hosts and their exceptional collection. Rest assured, people still exist whom both value and respect such dedication. Please continue the collection and harvest the subsequent joy. It’s marvellous!
It's so wonderful to see people's passion. You can see the joy in both their eyes (and yours) when you discuss something you love. It's an exquisite collection and I may be heading to my library to find that book and give it a read!
I am always fascinated at how intricate and detailed the compacts are. They are not just makeup packaging, but works of art. Thank you for all you do, Erin!
As a graphic designer with a huge style in art deco I cannot appreciate this video more! Thanks so much, I've always wanted something to use for referencing or ideas for linework. Keep up the amazing work Erin!!
Thank you for sharing these collections and the interesting ppl who collect them, (yourself included). It's all so interesting and your absolute love of it all makes it even better!

Erin, this was so fabulous ❤ . First fragrances, then compacts! I can't wait to see what's next. I'm going to buy this book immediately. I'm obsessed! Howard and Jo Anne were so lovely what an incredible wealth of knowledge.
This is the absolute sweetest most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life!!! Growing up my father and step mother collected all types of things like literally all different kinds of toys and what knots and we used to go to toy shoes EVERY weekend and all their friends would ask if I was allowed to actually open my toys like out of the boxes, and I can remember I was probably in 2nd grade and I bought a cabbage patch doll with my own money and my father was furious when i pierced her ears lmao because she lost value but this is the type of beautiful things that I loved to see collected and together and the history of it all ❤❤
I really loved the emphasis that vintage compacts are a work of art and like a really beautiful piece of fine jewelry. I feel the same way about many other items crafted in the 20-40's, and just consider it such a wonderful time where creativity meets innovation in such a visually impactful way. Thank you for sharing Mr. and Mrs. Melton and to Erin for interviewing such a cute couple

Right now I believe you make the most interesting videos on RUclips!
Joanne & Howard, thank you for sharing your gorgeous pieces. Thank you, Erin, for asking them to see.
I feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven when I see such treasures. Thank you so much for sharing! ✨🩷
I know where to offer anything I come across that's vintage makeup related... It's nice to see someone who is so passionate about a topic and draws ppl into the topic as well.... Someone who doesn't know about our care about makeup would absolutely be drawn into the topic just by your genuine passion and curiosity
Oh my gawd!!! I’m dying! I’m dead! What an amazing collection , and such a wealth of knowledge. I love it all!
Ooh what a thrill to talk to these two passionate collectors! Hope you had a blast ❤
They have such an awesome collection! Amazing that they kept with it all these years! Much appreciation for the tour/interview!
More, more, more! That is how I feel everytime I watch your videos! You are EXCEPTIONAL!
The Dali compact is absolutely drool worthy!! Thank you for continuously bringing us pieces of beauty history...I love this content❤.
I am always fascinated at how intricate and detailed the compacts are. They are not just makeup packaging, but works of art. Thank you for all you do, Erin!
These two are so adorable! I would love to sit down and talk to them for hours.
This was so fascinating. Many thanks to Howard and Jo Ann for their time and knowledge. ❤

As a graphic designer with a huge style in art deco I cannot appreciate this video more! Thanks so much, I've always wanted something to use for referencing or ideas for linework. Keep up the amazing work Erin!!

Thank you so much collectors!!! You make this all possible for us
This chanel is truly a gem. Makeup, beauty, how to's, history of makeup, ancient/vintage ways they made makeup and possibly wore it, short documentaries, art and just so much more! It's absolutely amazing
Howard and Joanne ❤ what a sweet couple. I love your passion for collecting
These are so pretty I can't even believe it! Look at all these beautiful designs with the chains and the cosmetics inside, these are a dream!
