The G19 is excellent and I'm a huge fan. That said, if you have the chance to rent a few different models at a local range I would highly recommend giving the FN509 Midsize model a try as well.
mgate01 is correct. If Glock 19 is on your list of to do's...Note the CZ P10C has all the upgrades your going to spend 150-200 dollars on to get the Glock product to the out of the box shoot-a-bility of the CZ right out of the box. Personally..For me.. I would not be interested in either one. That said... If I was offered Glock 19 or CZ P10c as a here its free take one. I would choose the CZ for Sure. The trigger and proper grip angle alone are reason enough to give the CZ a look see.
You sure it's a gen 1? It was my understanding that there were only about 10 (prototype) gen 1 G19 made, and I'm pretty sure G23 wasn't introduced until several years into the gen 2 era.
Well, all I know is this that I think this was the first model 23s... and I'd not heard of any others. I got a deal where I could go in with 5 other officers to get a special law enforcement deal for a 40 cal Glock for $230. This was around 1993 or so. I couldn't pass that deal up! I still carry that gun today. The only significant difference is that it doesn't have the rails for a light on the bottom of the area below the barrel.
@@Kevin-ETX That would be gen 2. If you got it in 1993, it would indeed be an early G23, but still well into the gen 2 series. Gen 2 was introduced in 1988.
My Glock 19 gen 5 is the first Glock I've ever bought that I didn't feel any desire to change anything!!! Mine came with the ameriglo front sight and blacked out serrated rear with u notch. It's also the best stock Glock trigger I've ever bought, and I'm liking the marksman barrel.

Got a new Glock 19 Gen 5 mos while back home last. It's sitting in my safe, waiting for me to get home and shoot it for the first time. Thanks for your dad and your videos.
Love my Glock 19 gen 5. I used to be a Glock hater I now have 8 and they're my favorite pistols. I love that Glock doesn't change a design that works. Brands like Ruger come out with something new all the time and it has problems if you just keep the same design and just upgrade it over the years you have less problems
Hey John, if the bevel or flare of the grip wasn't there, the bottom of the magazine would still be the same size as the flare. I do agree that without the flare, you can grip and remove the magazine easier.

I chose to upgrade my gen 4 to Gen 5 g19 because finger groove grips never fit well for my hand 🖐. And slide finish was too thin and blotchy. Love Gen 5 slide finish and grip with no finger grooves. My only negative is half moon cut out on grip. Thanks for review John.👍🇺🇸
Thanks again John for sharing your experience and opinions. And once again, helping to desensitize my dogs to the sound of lead on steel. And agreed that like most things in life, shooting takes experimentation, feel, timing and practice to make your own music. Life is good
The gen 5 has grown on me. But honestly my buddies gen 4 with sanded off finger grips, Black Talon grips, and undercut trigger guard feels absolutely spot on to me.
That's why I will always follow the Hickok45 channel. I know you both are fanboys , but you both aren't short on criticisms when it comes to Glock. Thanks for speaking the truth!
Glocks are accurate reliable. If you so choose to change parts it is so easy to disassemble. What really amazes me is there are so few parts. I know a man that has an indoor range rents pistols out. He has a glock 21 in .45 acp he estimates it to have over 250000 rounds other than cleaning no problems to report. Glock states perfection. Nothing is perfect but they are definitely in the running.
I switched my everyday from the G23 Gen 3 to a Gen5 G19 at the beginning of the year. I like the new Gen5 better, particularly with the Ameriglo sights. My only complaint, is the new finish. Glock claims the new finish is superior to their previous finishes. I carried my G23 every day for 8 years. I have carried my G19 every day for 5 months, the finish appears to be wearing faster on the G19.
I agree. I do not like them because people will not shut up about them. They have always been a fantastic firearm.I will always recommend them when people ask usually one of my first suggestions especially for self defense. Also I grew up realizing the beauty of firearms. I’m not sure anyone will say a glock is attractive... But having said that with the taper on the front of the slide now, it oddly enough makes it more “attractive”. I have changed my opinion and based solely on the less brick like looks I believe a 17 is in my very near future. Great video John!!!
John just like your dad, last mag let's load two I can't shoot just one mag!! Love it must confess I'm the same way. Nice job John and tell Hickok 45 he did a great job behind the camera
I rather like the finger grooves on my Gen 4 G17 and G19 as well. For some reason, the flat front of the grip on the Gen 5 makes the entire grip feel more "square" to me. Having said that, I do plan on getting a G45 MOS after I save up enough pennies in my piggy bank. Oh yea, the G48 is an overall thumbs up in my book as well - and it's second on my Glock purchase list.
I have a RUclips channel, no guns though, I'm a kid lol, I shoot alot, but no guns on the channel. In one video I shoot a tablet, a book, and a moniter I dont show the guns though, I only have like 7 guns, but I'm going to Kentucky to see my great uncle and take home a few more
Real nice video fun to watch. Your observations are always on point. Like the Gen 5 but hate the cut wag well cut out. Got to spend $ to get rid of it which is a pain but overall nice gun.
A Glock is a Glock, almost indestructible, extremely reliable (on and of the battlefield), naturally ugly, easy to break down clean and reassemble. I’ve put well over 7000 rounds through mine and never a misfire
I bought one of the first gen 4 Glock 19s that came out. I've had it since 2008 and I have only put about 250 rounds fired through it. What is unique about it came with adjustable rear sights. you don't see on standard Glocks anymore unless you buy a upgraded one
Great review John! I have a 19 Gen3 along with a G45 MOS, G21, G43, G26 Gen5, G27 Gen3. . I was debating if I needed another 9mm. Thought about a 17 Gen5 but I love my 19 so much maybe I should get it a Gen5 brother.... + getting another 19 I could wear a dual shoulder holster like Bruce Willis carried his .45's in Last Man Standing....Again great review John!
Last Glock generation under Gaston Glock. He was criticized by many about the durability of his pistols. Now his design are copied by many. Bought my first Glock 17 in 1988, Glock pistols are the only ones that I never had any issues with.
I have owned, carried old school sw semi autos, Barretta m9, sig 229-220 and Glock21-19 and the Glock IMHO was the one I still carry…. It’s the most intuitive gun… it’s like if a revolver were to merge with a semi automatic.. just point a shoot and it’s dependable and build to last.
My Glock 19 gen 5 has serrations on the front and back of slide. Also doesn't have the cut out in the front of the grip. Why is that? Did they make different versions?
I like the feeling and shooting of glocks,..but while shooting my father-in-laws glock 17 gen 4, the ejected shells kept throwing back and hitting me right between the eyes (on my safety glasses) has anybody else had this problem, or is it just the 17 not the 19 or just the gen 4 not the 5?
I know this is a old question.I was a huge glock fan.I am just now getting back into them. When I bought the gen4 when they first came out… I was furious. They had some how or another threw the whole ejection out of whack.. Even on hickoks Gen4 19 videos you can see the brass flying all over.I was getting hot brass to the face.I had never had that issue before with any other generation..They finally fixed the cheap extractors -ejectors etc..It was a big issue for awhile…It has been fixed though on the gen5 19.You were definitely not the only one to have the issue.Glock had to redesign the ejector(even though it HAD worked before)And redesign the extractor. It was the only glock I’ve ever had that would stove pipe jam.
I love every change of the gen 5. The beveled mag well is really no wider than the width of the mag plate or at least very close to it's width and makes the gun more tactical in my opinion. I love the gen 5 finish and i love the finish of the gen 3 as well. Last, I hate finger grooves. I do have some common ground with you....the grip should model the 1911 grip.
How do you find the trigger on them ? I going to buy a glock (17) soon enough, I've tested a couple of G4 with a modified trigger (and I like them) but never a G5 - and I can't decide if I'll go for a G4 or a G5 essentially because of that.
@@lrs2319 Trigger is good...little difference between it and the Gen 3 in my opinion. Some say it is better but I like the gen 3 trigger maybe just slightly better but so close it is negligible.
I would admit that style play a role for me. Just like cars, motorcycles ect.. Glock has a utilitarian style, or municipal aesthetic in my opinion. That doesn’t take away from performance, it’s more about preference. No reason to hate a Glock. I have a Ruger Security 9, the Dad compared to Glock 19
Really like my gen 5 glock 19..i have smaller hands and the gen 4 finger grooves dont fit me and give me a lower grip on the gun than id like ..the cutout on my early gen 5 / no front serrations doesnt bother me at all because my smaller hands end up directly above it and not in it at all ..gen 5 fits me perfectly!! Definitely my favorite model 19 so far!! Will be getting an MOS version as well ..keep this one as my EDC...i like the finish and the missing front serrations along with the beveled slide at front ..
just got a Glock 19 and it has the serrated front on the slides like a G45 and it has no cut-out in front of the magwell - Looks just like the G45. Anyway - I guess there is a newer versions of the G19 Gen 5? Interesting. Liked watching you shoot John. Good Job.
Old Hickok or his son John it's always a fun thing to watch. In next 30 years young Hickok will become old Hickok and maybe will smoke as much pot as his father did :D
I noticed the rear sight is adjusted to the right. Is this how you adjust all the sights on your glocks? or is it different depending on the individual pistol?
Question for you, ive heard good things about the gen 5s new DPM guide rod system. Ive heard that it reduces recoil by a lot BUT when ive heard people talk about them, it feels like they are inky talking about the “kicj” instead of the “muzzle flip”, some people use those terms interchangeably. So being exact, docyou feel that the DPM system actually reduces muzzle flip?
Great video and nice showcasing of the glock. I personally don't like them but i shoot them well and they fit me great. But like i pointed out we all have preferences, like my tools are rigid and Klein... Creature of habit
The Glock will always go down as one of the greatest guns of all time. A living legend.

At least the gen 5 doesn't have a magazine disconnect safety!! Damn good gun like all the other generations!
Gen 2 all the way baby! Mostly because it came with hi caps in CA. Great job john
Picked mine up several months ago. My fav CC.
My 19 gen5 don't have that cut out at the bottom of the grip. Did they stop doing that to the newer ones?
just got a Glock 19 and it has the serrated front on the slides like a G45 and it has no cut-out in front of the magwell - Looks just like the G45.
Good job John - A Glock's a Glock for sure .. but the G19X grip would likely suite your big hands better. Mine's a sweet shooter.
Nice work, John. Good chapter Two Video!
The m&p m2.0 compact is a serious competitor to the g 19.
I have both and TOTALLY agree.
I have a Gen 1 & it's a good one. Good video. Thanks I enjoyed it.
Walther PDP vs Glock 19 vs HK VP9
Looking for my first gun - primarily home defense, but might end up being an EDC for awhile. Thoughts?
Great insight there John! Enjoyed this video!
I noticed the rear sight is adjusted to the right. Is this how you adjust all the sights on your glocks? or is it different depending on the individual pistol?
PatriotsNFL1 individual pistols will vary. Shoot yours and find it’s point of impact
I really enjoyed the different perspective here on the Hickok45 channel.
We just need more Dad humor and giddy laughing as we plug away.
Well done.
I like how the metal targets make a ping so you know you hit it
Such a simple point yet it's very true.
Dot you have a slide lock release? Also, the back site system would drive me nuts. M17 all the way baby.
Archer it does have a slide release. Just about everything that’s an semi- auto has them. Some might not be that great but they have them.
Just curious does Glock have a problem with the mags not being seated when inserted in the gun? I see you give it a extra tap after inserting it
