I purchased this planer ruclips.net/user/postUgkxIzvvTi3_Qc8JnVdYYRJCvuoDC4QjTzeL to replace a well worn Delta bench top I'd had for a number of years. I should have purchased it sooner. The performance is much better than I expected from a bench top planer, and the best I've used so far. When feed and discharge supports are properly set snipe is all but eliminated. Cuts are smooth and free of flaws. Setup was dead right out of the box. Feed rate is smooth, steady and sure. The standard (fast) feed rate left rough sawn cherry smooth and with little sanding to be done for a fine finish. After 100 board feet of hardwood the knives were still sharp and performing well with clean sharp cuts. The dust blower system is phenomenal! With my dust collector connected and after 100 board feet there was little if any waste left to sweep up. It works and works very well. The unit is heavy. It's a bit of a beast weighing just under 100 pounds. The optional table/mobile base is very nice and makes a sound and sturdy platform for the planer. However, the instructions are rather lacking. If you're mechanically inclined there should be no real assembly problems other than an potential for extreme disgust. But it is a nice table.

Thankyou, these are a well built model, i have used mine since the early 90's and it finally started to have bearing whine this week in 2022 - Thanks to this video I see that one of the 4 bearings is greasable, that did the trick!

I'm still using my Makita 1902 planer. In fact used it today to thin down an oak threshold.
Was given to me as a present 26 years ago. Great machine.

Nice clean up dude. Worked on these and other power tools for many years. In good condition for its age that one.
You should get a blade setting block from a MAKITA specialist (pt No. 123062-2) they not expensive and makes the tools finish excellent. It will allow you to set the blade depth properly. Also not recommended to put grease onto open bearings, light oil is better stops the bearing from over heating.

Thanks for the video. Just picked one up at the recycle facility of my local dump yesterday. Worked but made a heck of a lot of noise from the 2 bearings closest to the belt (larger one's). Looks like it was in the rain and rusted the bearings so I cleaned them up with PB Blaster until they spun freely and lubed them up with moly grease. I realize this grease is not intended for bearings spinning at these RPM's but that is what I had on hand. Works well and noise is about 80% quieter. However the armature gets hot almost immediately...very hot. Took belt off to eliminate that part of the tool. The armature gets hot in only seconds to where you can not touch it. Before I have a total failure and burn it out I would like to fix it. I guess I could try to flush out the grease and just oil it and see if it still gets hot but that is a stretch that it could be that. And like I said above, the bearings, even though they were heavily rusted, now spin freely without binding at all. So is my armature failing and too much internal resistance or could the bearings cause it to heat up in literally seconds after pulling trigger. Thanks again.

I didn’t realise they made electric planes 30 years ago, oh what a sheltered life I have lived! I feel very old right now!
You did exactly what the video title says, you repaired and refreshed the plane, and if it doesn’t need any more anything else would have been counterproductive.

You NEED to use them Makita blade alignment tool to install the blades properly on their holder. 😂🤦‍♂️
I wouldn’t use the tool assembled like this, it will make a mess and can be potentially dangerous!
You need to attach the blade to holder using the alignment tool with the small screws, then screw the assembly to the tool with the big ones.

Having to adjust the blades on the same planer for a Freind...he doesn’t have no other tools to adjust blades...obviously you don’t have it either or you didn’t show it...I had to level out plates using my machinist straight edge and adjust blades to plates...took it out after and made a jig so he can remove blades and sharpen ,reinstall it without any frustration of adjusting blades again....no matter how good working order a planer is or good looking you’ve missed the most important aspect of blade adjustment....I’m not a carpenter nor do I’ve ever touched one before this 😳
