@phlebas9204 You can still buy Makita 1806B as new and its big brother Makita KP312S , 312mm/12-1/4" wide, 18 kg/40 lbs tool. Makita 1100 is the old style 82mm, version in this series, planers made to do work, not attract buyers with fancy design. They can keep making these because there is not much options on market, you have Mafell ZH 320Ec 320mm/12-9/16" Planer. Makita and Mafell are about only ones making big woodworking power tools.
Great stuff. I enjoy how your casually throw all the parts across the table as you disassemble stuff. Me: I'd be putting them into numbered bins to keep track and re-watching the video. Your long experience shows.
Love the content and look forward to each new video. I have a 4" version of that planer from the same era. I was never happier than the day that I bout the first set of blade holders and replaceable blades!
Seems the made in Japan tools are a lot more robust than the outsourced stuff.!!? ( get em when you can ). Current crop of brushless stuff is almost cheaper to replace than repair.!!! 😱
I'm old enough to remember when a huge percentage of the tools available were of good to great quality... now, the vast majority are just garbage. It's great to see someone rebuild these older workhorses... if you fancy having a go at repairing my creaking Knees, let me know! 😃 PS. I wish the people who make those little Wire Ferrules would make some with 'O' and 'U' fittings attached - I've had endless trouble over the years with those Plastic Crimped connectors. The quality of them is always low and the connections are, at best, iffy when it comes to strain relief.
I still have a 30+ years old Japanese Makita router - still perfect and a 35+ years old Swiss made Elu planer - works perfectly but retired because of Dewalt cordless. They were most definitely better tools before China was invented!
This is great. I just bought ones from Japan and it works great. I am concerned about sourcing parts. Do you have any recommendations on where to buy replacement parts?
@@mos8541 I just think that's AvE's personality. However, the AvE channel seems to have taken a turn a few years back that made it less interesting to me.
Another great video Dean. Machines are not made to last anymore. I have a B&D an orange one I bought it when I was a child because I knew I wanted to be a joiner. I'm now 62 and that machine still runs like new.
Shouldnt it be a special high rpm bearings ? Or is it just the number written on them you should buy Remember from another channel and he had to change to a highspeed bearings for machines like this.
Legend has it,..Noah used the same planer working on the Ark. 😉
And passed on to Joseph and to Jessie and now Dean change the bearings and leads and belt and brushes and will go another 20 years.
Im sure it will. 😉😀
@@ritapunzal9438Joseph and Jesse? You mean Ham, Shem and Japheth
@@Utuber-x44 No, Joseph the father of Jesus, and Jessie is Jesus.
Only after Dean replaced the bearings lol
I love that you don't organize during disassembly. You know where everything goes.
That old mikita stuff was amazing quality
they sell literally the same thing today
Something very ❤satisfying seeing these great old machines saved from the trash heap. These videos are a goldmine for future repair folk.
This is one of the coolest tear downs, not sure why, but this is a cool machine.

These look so well build its probably worth picking them up used and fixing them up.
good job
Brilliant job Dean nice to see quality kit given another life, Well Done
good to see you throw everything about...adds to the drama
Was looking at some vids because I need a beam planer. The big one. Makita is my choice and Dean shows up in the feed.
Think she's older than me
Thanks Dean , great content, great vids, every day is a learning day with you, appreciate it, charley in lanzarote.
The new version of this is €2000, well worth saving that one, she's beat up and well used, and such a beast.
Sorry. Not so much. 450€. Need some?👍🇩🇪
@@thomasschafer7268 He was probably thinking of the new big brother KP312, that one is around 2k euro.
I love watching your videos. I wish you had a clone in the US! I have so many tools that need to be sent in for repairs.
sounded good to me! maybe a little off, but LOVE that sound of them oldies
I can tell you like your makita kit mate 👌👍
A great skill set and very entertaining to watch.

Smooth sound.
I'm sure they've already gotten their money's worth already brother 😊😊😊
I’ve still got one but doesn’t look like that one! Excellent video
I have the same era belt sander. Still doing strong too.
Great job, its ready for a new life.

Great video. What an excellent old machine.
Man oh man Great job
That was a really interesting one, not many of these about any more.
I have one of these...
Your the best Dean!
What a beautiful piece of kit, I can only imagine the cost to manufacture that today.
2600€

I have a slightly newer version of this tool. It’s bullet proof however listening to this one done my old girl could do with a tart up.
Bet you got a load of satisfaction fixing that ole fella up again.
love your videos
Thank you
Beautiful bit of kit.
Have you ever worked on Holtzer? Going back to the 80's.
I want it!
I wish my impact driver was predictable like that bosch
A serious piece of kit.
Tremendous work. You make it look easy. You give AvE a run for his money :D

i have one that looks the same but its a wolf
Proper tools
What a bonnie, top work.

your vids are fantastic mate, why dont you clean the machines though? they work fine on the inside but look like they have been pulled out of a pond
Because they are working tools. Why clean them and make them look like new. The customer is going to use it again just the same.
just looks a bit more professional thats all
@@barryclyde8353well then you gotta charge more and most real tradesmen like that old work patina on their tools.
that looks like a clenaer or someting weird
Funny how you get tools like that with a trigger that lasts. New tools barely get 3yrs in and the trigger is playing up
