Aside from a simple air intake and exhuast the best mod you can do to an OBS is a charge air cooler install aka intercooler. Compressed air from the turbo is hot and less dense. This will automatically make more power and improve fuel economy at the same time.
94.5-97 the later obs had intercooler

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. My friend just bought a 1999 f350 with a 7.3 l. It's a dual wheel dump truck. And has an automatic transmission. and we were looking to get a little bit more power but nothing outrageous more torque than anything. and I was unaware that they had that restricted downpipe like that.
Take the dump off of it for one those things weigh a ton

Tymar makes the best downpipe for these trucks, it starts out 3 Inch then goes to 3.5 inch as soon as it passes the firewall and then goes to 4 inch. That is the best you can get unless u wanna modify the firewall for a 4 inch downpipe

@@extraspremier9971 there is no gain modifying the firewall for a 4 inch downpipe when the turbo outlet is 3 inches, look at duramax for instance they are making over 1000 hp with 3 inch downpipes.
I've never understood why diesel guys always wanna put on the biggest down pipe possible. Sure a bigger pipe allows for more flow but there is such a thing as too much flow. You still want some back pressure otherwise you'll actually be losing power. Maybe theres something to it that I don't know and someone can explain it to me
@@JordanSVT turbo diesel don't need help with backpressure the exhaust side of the turbo is fairly small as is the exhaust manifolds.
@@JordanSVT That’s a myth and it’s completely nonsensical. You never want backpressure. Backpressure literally equals negative work in the exhaust cycle. That means negative torque, which also means negative power.
In a NA or SC engine, you really want to have high speed flow in the headers, but in a turbo engine, the airflow after the turbo just needs to be as high as possible because the turbo is what’s giving you the big torque adder, rather than any possible scavenging effect.

I got a 97 f250 7.3 it is 5 speed and the inside isn't bad just the floor and front seats and the body there is one dent but it isn't bad but this video is great because I thought about adding power

Personally I'm fine with stock injectors since I don't plan on moving anything other than a boat but the down pipe is a must the stock air filter definitely needs to be changed over in my arrogant opinion

My down pipe I just used a porta power and cut the tab on the zf5.

Get a php hydra tuner. Definitely worth the money. Super easy to install. I’m no mechanic and I did it myself. My 96 F250 came with a TS performance chip and that cheaper than the Hydra chip and gives way more power and speed. I just prefer the hydra since I tow 8,000lbs.

Fix intake restriction and exhaust restrictions. Also ebv delete pedestal gets rid of more restriction. Wicked wheel is optional.

Thank you for the vid. I installed the pod and 3 gauges today. The boost hardly moved unless I really stomped on it, and it moved to 10. Is this an indicator of a poor turbo or something else?
what about transmission and driveshaft? and you need stopping power. What you do for brakes?

you can make loads of power with those old trucks, id be more worried about the transmission than anything else, though.

Lol, yeah, but even up here in SD, we're expecting a 70° swing in temperature within days time. Mid 40's by the weeks end. Really though, to the truck, I was gonna do everything else besides the intake and exhaust before the chip. 👀

Hello sir, I have a 1997 f250 7.3 130k miles original its all stock. I've replaced small stuff but nothing that serious. My question is my truck sometimes will start but go dead, sometimes it takes several start ups to get it to keep running, when she does that I know running that day is gonna be IFFY. But somedays she will start right up and go all day without any problems. Also somedays days I'll be rolling good and she will just go dead for no reason. What do you think the problem is thanks in advance for your help

I have a 4-speed '87 6.9 I just picked up, and it is SLOW (so slow I painted a "Warning: slow vehicle" sign on the back,). I upgraded the air filter and have been thinking about doing the exhaust next. Does anyone know where I can get headers for the '83-'87 diesels?
I got a 7.3L Powerstroke in my 97 E350 & I'm out to get more power out of this old girl. I got a 4" exhaust just about ready to drop in...gonna take out some of my downpipe & run 4" from like 8" to 10" from the turbo. Probably run a 45deg. kickout with a 45 deg. slash cut in the tailpipe.. Looking into a stiffer fuels reg. spring , intercooler & then the injector kit. Think about adding in a bigger turbo to add on to my Garrett. I would like to explore compound turbo's & the best is Mr. Gale Banks. I saw how he modified the "Rotsun's" turbo which Mike Finnegan built up for ROADKILL. If my exhaust turbines can start spooling @ a lower RPM range...the boost across the board would be insane.

It was kinda hard to find a decent one exactly like I wanted and at a good price. It took me a little over a year and that’s before they were as popular as they are now.

I fit a 4 inch downpipe on mine by seperating the right side of the cab two inches, it slipped right in.
Have you looked into compound turboing a 7.3l OBS? I have 180/30 injectors, KC performance turbo, plus a lot of other mods, but was hoping to do a compound turbo set up. I was just curious if you had looked into it?
… I am at 350hp and 650 torque at the wheels right now, I’m hoping to be around the 400hp mark at the wheels without having bigger injectors than the 180/30’s

im the middle of my e-fuel conversion then rolling into studs, springs and pushrods =D been collecting parts for about 2 years, finally all coming together now!!!!
im self taught on TIG, can weld stainless and ti in all positions but mild... mild constantly kicked my ass so I just stopped trying turned out I wasn't getting the scale off... was using a wire wheel to clean it up before never noticed that it wasn't getting the scale off... i couldn't find my wire wheels so i just grabbed my flap discs to prep for welding...
it just never hit me because you don't have the scale layer with titanium or stainless... you just rough it up with the wire wheel and clean it off... felt so stupid yet happy lololol
back to working on the mount for the FPR, how's your project going? im about to start on head studs and valve springs after this.
I need to get rid of that stupid down pipe... lol got the same 6637 and a 4 in pipe with a DP tuner.

before turbo you need comp 910 valve springs and new pushrods. as well as headstuds if your going to go over 40 psi of boost.
Down pipe would deffinely help on mine.
Are you in the Verde Valley? I have a 95 obs 7.3 2wd 5spd. I've had for 20 years and it still runs like the raped ape I test drove. Built in Canada probably on a Wednesday. From original owner who did some awesome upgrades to tow a big boat. And some I'm not sure about.

Also a huge thing brother that your going to need before throwing that chip on. And I don’t remember you covering is E fuel that stock pump will not be able to handle that chip for very long once you start running on it I promise! Sweet truck though!

Hey buddy I got the 1996 f350 powerstroke turbo diesel and i have an issue i have this truck for about 4 years with no problems at all my brother a week ago changed my fuel filter and I'm not saying that because that I have the issue that I have now but really I would appreciate your help the problem is this my son went to start the truck 2 days ago this was what happened he put in the key turn it waited for the "wait to start" light to turn on but it flashed real quick and turn off so he wait 7-10 second and turned the key but the truck wouldn't start so he turned it off and did it again but the same thing happened and I found out that its blowing the fuel number 30 for the fuel pump and the wait to start light won't turn on now I have no idea what the problem I would appreciate your help

Oh tambien fijate que no tenga fuga de pression los Up Pipes que van del turbo a los Manifolds. A veces train fuga y se escapa la pression del turbo y pierdes fuerza.

First of all....thanks soooo much for your videos. My truck is bone stock, except I just put in a TS tuner. But I'm not getting ing any extra HP. I feel the 50hp, but nothing more when I select other positions
Your presentation could have been better...but I can't throw stones because my presentations ain't prefect either.LOL!!! Been taking notes...been a diesel mechanic for years...even the IDI V8 from Navistar/International Harvester... You know the drill...high pressure oil to operate thei electronic injectors...go figure. I love my Powerstroke though. Powerstrokes can be badass like a Cat 3208. My van is my 1st ever Powerstroke of my own!!! Even bone stock she still kicks ass. Eventually I'm going to get rid of her automatic & go with manual shift. I'm probibly going to use a 4spd trans as a "Main" & both the "Range Splitter" & a 5531 Brown-Lipe auxiliary box. How do I know it will work...I drove MANY rigs with the Dana-Spicer 5X4 twin sticks set up, so 24 forward gears would be perfect for my van & the welding & wrenching I do the field. Don't mind the haters...they got nothing better to do & some got NO DIESEL Pickup or Van... You'll see my Van on my Channel...I call her "Bessie."

had a 95 model put a 150hp chip on it and never bothered to upgrade the exhaust. Sadly the truck was overheating towing back and she burned to the ground
Im looking at another one. The owner wants 1600 the motor has low compression. But i found a 2wd dually with 86k miles for 2gs that has the bed, interior and other parts. My plan is to turn the srw crewcab into a low mileage dually with a zf5 and make it a daily/tow on the weekend truck

My dad has a 1997 ford f super duty 7.3 which is technically an f550 before the f550 and it had the k&n intake,air filter and a big ass exhaust also had a tuner in it so it was making about 500 horse and that was enough for a tow truck (edit) he also put in some higher hp injectors

Haven’t done mine yet so I have no input but I do know that he should definitely go with some bellowed up pipes when I replace mine I might use the diesel site up pipes check them out

Yea just like he said take your time, I ended up finding one parked in front of someone's home who ended up being the original owner selling a stock 4x4 7.3 truck with 140k miles perfectly clean for 8k

They are 180cc stock nozzle and not sure on the hp but I would guess it’s in the mid to high 300s

You can leave it but you will be limited to how much hp you can make

Hey man I turned 16 today and craziest thing ever I found a f350 crew cab non dually with 46inch tires. Just curious do you think it’s a good idea to buy it since the engine is so reliable and just put smaller tires on it something more daily

Yeah thats a bad ass truck, I'm 17 and bought my 7.3 last year. Its a 96 7.3 now its got a 4 inch lift and 35inch tires which is plenty big enough for me. Just don't make the same mistakes I did, check for blow by, ask for service records, make sure he serviced the diff regularly oil changes, ect. Also don't settle for the first truck you see! keep looking if anything makes you uneasy!@@tsiyyon5601
Elijah Lauver a cool fact I noticed is it’s extremely local. I looked at the tail gate and it faded and said Adkins ford which is 15 min from me....makes me curious to wonder if it’s a one owner truck
@@tsiyyon5601 You can always a run a car fax to make sure. I've bought 2 vehicles now and car fax has never let me down.
I am getting an obs I live in Arizona I would like to strait pipe it but will that pass emissions?
Az Dirt biker the 95-97 models came pretty much straight piped, because they didnt have smog regulations at the time. even in Cali, the word smog law state, there is no regulation. they just weren't equipped with emissions tech.
to see if it's a gross polluter or not a smog referee may hook it up to a machine and run it at 2100 rpm for 15 minutes to see how it's egt's look

its a ts 6 tuner you can buy it from multiple websites just search ts 6 7.3 and it plugs into your pcm.

@@blowingdiesel back story, 99 f250 ext cab bought from passed old man. 182k, nice diamond plate tool box and 45 gal transfer tank and 6 pos. Chip. Had new valve cover gaskets, deleted turbo pedestal and up pipes installed. Had oil leak. Took to ford dealership. 7100 later, new oil pan gasket, seals in front and back of motor (crankshaft?) New reman tranny w/3yr unlimited miles warranty. All new AC. New injector sensor and harness. All oil pressure and fuel pressure cheked and good. Ive since got it back and its good. Also all new rotors, pads and front steel piston calipers done. Im hoping to pull my 5th wheel for years to come with no issues. Dealership was having hard time with power but new injector harness and sensor fixed the power concern. Thx!
What brand gauges do you have in your truck? They look pretty nice and easy to read at a glance.

If it’s a 90 it’s definitely an idi and it’s a completely different engine so a lot of the stuff I said doesn’t apply. But it’s pretty much just like any other engine more fuel more air more power haha

Only things I did was a 4in turbo back exhaust and a cold air intake. No tune, no turbo upgrades, no nothing. My EGTs went down, my MPG went up about 1.5-2, and it feels faster down low for sure. That's all these trucks need. I've seen too many tuners ruin these trucks. They last forever for a reason.

I have a question. I want to get more into trucks and I want a manual 7.3. I’ve seen some that are 5 speed and some that are 5 but have an extra thing labeled “L” (low) on the shifter. What is that for and what does that mean for the truck?
