- Julian Ward from Yamaha presents the RevStar RS620 electric guitar. The mahogany body and flame maple top are contoured for gigging comfort, while the medium neck profile and jumbo frets deliver smooth, precise playability. A pair of Yamaha VH5 humbucking pickups serves up a wide tonal range, further enhanced by the push-pull Dry switch that enables single-coil-like tones. After the video, click the link below for more info and hi-res photos of the Yamaha RevStar RS620.

I was on the verge of buying an SG but I'm gonna play at least one of these before I make that decision.
Just returned a 2018 Gibson SG back to GC.To get 1 of these.Sorry Gibson but this guitar just smokes your new SG guitars.
Agreed. Went to get a Gibson and came out with a revstar p90
These are so underrated, need a big musician to try one out
Better than a Gibson, in between a les Paul and SG but better in tuning and sound
Nice and barky because thinner body, but more clearer, and fat, juicy, and just good flavour,
lots of midrange but still balanced like crazy.
So good especially cheaper than a Gibson
Lee Ritenour actually plays the cheaper gold top model of a revstar, you can see it on one of his Java Jazz festival shows on RUclips
@@Holawood so yeah, need a big musician to start using one
Dave Meneketti of Y&T plays one
@@schnazzybo no shit? Love Y&T!
I've owned one of these for eighteen months now and I still look forward to playing it. No niggles at all, the only change I've made is putting on 9.5 gauge strings to replace the original 10's. There's no doubt that the warmth of the tone suggests late 60's/early 70's but that's what I was looking for and that's exactly what I got.
Factory set up was OK but I managed to improve it myself and now I've got a super low action with no fret buzz.
Jazzy blues, early ZZ top style rock are what this guitar is about.
Not one regret, definitely worth the money.
I also changed the 10's for 9.5 gauge. In comparaison with my LP, the strings seem harder. I think it has smthg to do with the one piece wraparound bridge.
Love this guitar...looks great and sounds awesome.
I've heard it in many demos and does its thing every time
Excellent demo
May these great guitars have a longer life than the awesome (but short-lived) AES series.
love the AES-series guitars, wish they'd bring them back..
I still have my AES 620, bought it in 2003. The only thing I don't like about it is the thick plasticky varnish that's on it. Wish they'd used nitro instead!
How about some CLEAN tones ? Otherwise, of little value.
Finally a demo with someone who can actually play
you had me at big thick strong tone...gettin' me one tomorrow. oh yeah.
Can I play heavy metal with that guitar?
They seem so reluctant to play these things clean
Oh please. Every damn demo i ever see is a bunch of jackoffs trying to show off how many jazz chords they know, completely clean. OR playing the most sparse empty nothing they can come up with, also completely clean, and trying to make it seem "soulful" somehow. This demo is refreshing
Love this guitar. The only issue is the weight unbalance between body and neck. The neck is a bit too heavy making it unconfortable when played standing up. Hope they have fixed this on the new series with the carbon rod in the neck.
Great tone!!!
I just bought the last new RS820CR BTB in all of North America. Anxiously waiting for delivery.
I'm a hard rock/metal guy, do the pickups have enough push for that kind of music
Are there any better gitars for around the samme money or a couple hundred more?
Like the sound of mark knopfler and bb king and stevie ray vaughn and the like. But i dont want a whammy bar.
Hello, Knife Sharpening Norway! That's a great question, it really has most to do with what features you like in a guitar and your particular playing style. Without knowing more about you, it's hard to say what would be best. Me personally, I like the Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TeleHHFMIBC--fender-special-edition-custom-telecaster-fmt-hh-black-cherry-burst-with-indian-laurel-fingerboard
It's a great guitar, and will do tons of different tones. Great for blues/rock. But give me a call if you have more questions. Thanks for the interest!

Fantastic Sound!Which AMP you Use in the Video?
I want this guitar just for that bridge, looks super to me.
Same here! That's a lot of the reason I like PRS guitars. for whatever reason, I've never found the ABR/tune-o-matic bridges comfortable (for me). Anyway, these bridges like on this yammy are great for palm muting!
I am concerned that these are mostly demoed on a Yamaha Thr100. I use a Thr10 and it is not picky about good and bad guitars, it makes pretty much anything sound good.
I've had this guitar for 3 years and I love it as much as the day i got it.
Why is it that Yamaha guitars are always not so readily available or are always out of stock?
Can you get modern sounds out of this? I know it has vintage pickups? also can you use these pickups for lead guitar playing along with heavier sounds/solos?
check out Josh gooch with his early models blues fusion rock awesome.
OK, Revstar RS620 versus PRS S2 Mira, what do you think about build, durability and tone.? I know you get US built with PRS.
Get both. PRS and Yamaha are my favorite electric brands
Lovely guitar but same old problem - what does it actually sound like?? With distortion/overdrive like that every guitar sounds the same! Dear oh dear! What's the point? I will go into a shop and try it out, these RUclips demos like this are pointless.Read more Show less Reply 1
AS I said to the 'tit-wit' above...search is your friend!!!
@@Pete_Harris and the ability to be silent and not a dick is your friend
I love this guitar the 1 and only niggle I have is that they should have made the pickup selector switch tip out of the brushed nickel all the other hardware is made of except for that I love it and probably will buy one for sure!!
So agree!
Amazing detail right there.
Really have to tryout this guitar. If I get the chance and actually buy it. First thing I will do.
Yamaha...DO it
Where do I find one that is on sales?
Hate the no clean sound demos. They suck big time. Stop treating us like children and do proper demos.
Again! SEARCH IS YOUR FRIEND!!!! : /
I bought mine 18 months ago and it's a brilliant musical instrument. Can't think of any negatives at all.
Did the finish wear off a bit
How much wider is the neck of 620 compared to 420?
Hi, Larry! The neck width is the same on those two models, but the depth is different. The RS620 uses their Medium neck shape while the RS420 is their Thin shape. If you have any other questions, please give us a call. Thanks for your interest!

O yes and at half the price.
love that brighter tone!
Sounds Awesome
I like it!
1 year ago.. But it's worth a shot. What amp are you using in this demo?
Did you actually watch the video?
Do you know the Space String? Thanks
So it sounds really crap clean does it...lost my interest and possible custom
Plenty of clean demos on RUclips...search is your friend!!!
