    Just found your channel. Boy, you are a wealth of knowledge. I drive a 2008 Prius and it’s been a learning experience. However, my car runs great. I’ll be checking out your vids for more tips.

    Just found your Channel and all I can say is WOW. I switched over to Amsoil about 10 years ago and it made all the difference in the world. Thanks for all the great information.

    Amsoil 0W-16 Synthetic Motor Oil. 2022 Prius. First change at 1500 miles. Also to cut down on Carbon in your engine make sure to use Top Tier Gas. Also Wix or a K&M oil Filter.

    You taught me something new today sir. Thanks for the great info as I’ll take that into consideration with my new 22 Prius…. What oil do you recommend me to use for the Prius as I’ve hear great things about amsoil 0w16 but should I just stick with the lemon Toyota oil that is basically Mobil 1 ow16? Need some answers for sure as I maintain all our cars but this is my first hybrid…. Thanks Alain for all the info…..👍👍👍

      Just use any synthetic 0-20 as recommended.
      I use penzoil every 5k miles with moble1 filter or STP filter. I change it myself so it’s cheap to do if you have jacks

    Hi Dr Pete. I chat with u on torque news TOO! I'm the old guy.😂🤣 Great video. I thot we were gonna disagree but I agree! To ME, oil is the heartbeat of any engine. I wonder if ppl who had gen 1's with piston ring probs would have lasted longer if changed at sooner intervals. Jst sayn. I always went by the specs on the oil can. SE, etc/meets exceeds mfgs requests. I've always bought name brand oil & filter on all my Toyotas & never probs. NOW, sayn that, I didnt agree w/10,000 mi 1st oil change/filter, SO I DID IT MYSELF.😏 I intend to keep my gen4 prius until I die, so I choose to change mine every 6mos/5,000 miles like I did frm the start. If I bought mine used, I'd do it as u say bc who KNOWS what previous owner did. I worked w/a woman who had a corolla. NICE lookn/ spoiler, the works. SHE NEVER CHANGED HER OIL. I thot to myself ppl jst arent takn care of cars like they used to. Pete, I have OCD.😂 So I tilt the car toward back/leaning toward passenger side to get every drop out of engine (always have) and no longer drips on my changes. My camry oil would be clean on my dip stick a month later. So I probably changed mine too soon but its more important to me engine is properly lubricated. So its what YOU think is important on ur own vehicle/situation. So I DON'T disagree, and yes, I'm probably doing it for nothing, it's jst more nurturing to me knowing I'm not pushing to the limits. 😁 OH! Probably WHY Toyota parts guy looked at me like I was nutz! I wasnt sure if mine took cartridge or regular. They go by ur vin#. And ppl BUY a Prius to SAVE money, yes, I know.😏😁

    Hi I stumble upon your blog and I’m due for a oil change. I drive 2019 Prius prime. Now I understand to go with a good filter and synthetic oil. Is this correct since your article only reaches 2015 models?

    I saw the guy who was doing just visual inspection and texture by robbing it between the fingers to see if it is time to change . Does cold months hurt engine more if oil is not at it best or hot months? I try to time my oil change that I have a fresh new oil in during the cold months so just about every six months. Does the season makes a difference for engine lubrication with fresh oil or oil ready to be changed?

      Rubbing the oil between your fingers is not an accurate way to tell if the oil needs to be changed. All you will really gather from that is if there is debris in it. The best way to do it is to have a lab analysis done to determine where you oil is at in its life expectancy. The season can make a difference but its not a massive contributing factor unless the oil needs to be changed and the weather gets really cold. In that circumstance you could be looking at more internal wear during startup if the oil cannot flow fast enough.

    Most accurate conversation. Hit it in the nail. I am trying to figure out for my prius what oil works best under stop and go( constantly running basically at ambient temperature). Maybe some oil with the best cold start protection ratin?. Is Amsoil the best for this? What I thought was good quality was probably not( high oil consumtion, 2 quarts per 2000miles, and constant oil sludge). Been using Castrol high mileage and Fram extra guard( do not know if made with synthetic fiber media). Clean sludge with Marvel Mystery Oil before draining oil. Still burns oil.

    i have a 2013 prius v. it burns a lot of oil. until now i have used 0w-20 full synthetic kirkland brand oil from costco. what do you recommend i do?
    Thank you!!

    • @TheHybridGuy
      @TheHybridGuy  7 месяцев назад

      Add ATF in with your oil. The high detergent content will help clean the ring lands and reduce oil consumption

      Honestly if you have been regular on dong your oil changes just use regular oil nothing special. You can use synthetic and synthetic filters but as long as you stay consistent with oil and filter changes regular conventional oil that meets the API standard of your car is just fine.

    I change the oil myself every 10,000km on my gen2 Prius. If it looks super black on the dipstick I change it earlier. If it's still clean I often go over a few thousand kms. It's not ideal but it seems to work, and it saves me a ton of money from Toyota doing a fairly simple job for about $30 instead of the stack of money Toyota want to charge. The only thing I notice is the oil smelling a bit of gas, but it's not that strong, so I'm hoping this is some minor piston ring wear.

    You left out warming up your car. Warming uo your engine to heat up the oil for maximum viscosity. In cold weather of course.

      Is it really necessary with the super thin 0w20 synthetic oil? I generally pull off in electric mode and warm up the car as I’m driving down the road. This is a 3rd gen Prius. Trying to get the best MPG possible.
