Discovered the Universal Monster films as a 4 or 5 year old and I was hooked! It's my favorite Horror franchise and it helped me appreciate black and white films at the end of the century and the beginning of the millennium. Dracula is not the best of the mayor films in the series, but it is one of the most atmospheric, and Lugosi and Karloff as the Frankenstein monster are irreplaceable.
I'm not a vampire fan at all, but I loved the book! And I love this movie too. Bela Lugosi is perfect as Dracula. As far as other movies about Dracula, I haven't watched any others. I know that no movie is true to the book, so I have no desire to watch them.
I believe Lugosi played Dracula twice? This and the Abbott & Costello movie. I’ve always enjoyed this movie though I do recognize it’s one of the creakier Universal monster classics. It probably helps that I first saw these films at a young age; I can forgive their flaws easier. I’m not a huge fan of the version with the Glass score. It just seems too modern sounding to me. I’d also recommend Return of the Vampire where he plays Armand Tesla. It’s a good one.
Robert, you know your movies, sir! Haha, 'creakier'... I think you meant that with no pun intended? I don't think I would have found the flaws so bad if I hadn't read Bram Stokers novel; my expectations were high. And, yes, when I said that some of Lugosi's vampire rolls were 'very Dracula esque', I was thinking of Return of the Vampire, which was basically an unofficial sequel to this film. I haven' seen them all... but that was a good one!
@@matthewolson8875 You make a good point. Unfortunately, Lugosi's Dracula costume and character are basically made tongue and cheek in that one. I think it had to due with his death and trying to make the existing footage of him, dressed as Dracula, work with the rest of the movie.

They are classic films, no question about that!

Vampires or no vampires, it's all about good vs evil and doing ones' best to triumph over the latter. Thanks for checking out my review!

Perhaps 3 times....if you include Ed Woods Plan 9 from Outer Space....where Lugosi died during filming
