Could Bryce interview some of this architect's other projects? He has totally captivated me, his design is pragmatic, esthetically brilliant and even spiritual! I am ready to move away from a staircase that doubles up as storage. This is substance!
Brilliant guy. Not only his apartment looks good but he does explain well why he took his decisions. He never gave an answer with a generic "design concept" showing he knows his stuff well
As an extreme introvert, I really resonate with his desire to be "close to the action" (my words), but also live a somewhat "monastic" life in the midst of that. Very cool.
1. This house is definitely giving me the Vibe 2. His house is exactly like him calm, relax 3. I could spend days listening to him, his voice is so soothing
As a guy that is studying architecture, it's great to see a lot of design principles we learn in class being translated so well to reality, makes me realise I still have a long way to go
The architect is amazing. He has projected his calmness, serenity and organized persona into the design of this very peaceful space. Simplistic but grand.
A great example of when a owner creates a HOME and not purchases an investment. This home suits his individual needs, tastes, and wants, and it appears as if he was not worried about resale price or others perception. Good for him! Thank you Bryce for the tour!
butcan a family live in an apartment? i just wonder. it would be a waste if u want to hv a family. well in my case i prefer living as a single. so this is like a dream come true
9:35 I really like what he said here. Like imagine normally tiny houses ‘prepared’ for having several guests would have identical chairs hidden away and you’d have to move a lot of things around to pull them out. I like how he’s honest like “Yeah the bed stays out most of the time”, cause many tiny houses look really cool and minimalistic but you have to pull the bed in and out every night to have a living room and it doesn’t seem like much when just seeing a video, but I’d imagine it would get tiresome to have to do that every day. So yeah, it’s nice to see a tiny space like this one and his take on “People are more adaptable than things”.
The color scheme of this appartment gives me a Ying Yang feeling as the balance between light and dark is seemless. Definitely leaving a good impression
The way he explains things seems similar to that wise man from films to whom people train or learn from. He's very philosophical. I can feel that old soul vibe in him. Out of all the tiny house owners in Bryce's channel, this guy is the only one that I've heard giving meaning to things in this way. Kudos to you! You really gave yourself the best place to flow.
You can tell he reads everyday. He probably reads all sorts of genres too. The way he articulates what he’s trying to say is done in the most efficient way possible. There are no “likes” “um’s” or “literally’s”.
10:40 “uh” stop making this guy seem like he’s superior to everyone. Maybe he’s better than you, but architects can’t compete with programmers like myself. We are superior to these lazy bums
Absolutely. But our politicians keep selling huge acres of potential populous lands to millionaires and companies that reduce people to living in well.. cramped cities and suburbs
This guy is a "genius of combining simplicity with functionality" and top of his talent what a beautiful personality he has. I would fully trust him to design my space.

We had a great time exploring Douglas' incredible apartment and learning about his design philosophy. I especially like the way that he describes his lifestyle as quasi monastic. I hope you enjoy the video! Please help support us by liking, commenting and sharing this video with your friends!
Come on, Bryce. All that money to try and make a shoebox workable. We shouldn't be celebrating the squashing of humans. So this guy had some money to try and make a situation that should never exist into a pretentious space. Wake up everyone and know what you're entitled to.
@Connor G If you do that with all real life explorations and considerations you're not in a good place. The consideration of why we're being Invited to spend tens of thousands (if we have it) to make a 'shoebox' work for us is important to consider. To equate my desire for people to live with dignity as "self loathing" (no explanation offered by yourself as to your reasoning) is crazy gravy. And then you say you will not read any reply to any response...major alert everyone...we have someone who won't engage in a dialogue of what represents basic human rights and dignity. Wow...I'm going to run along with that person. ;) I don't live in misery.I live in an idyll and I want others to be able to access the same if that's what they would find nurturing. I'm sorry if you find the explorations of the rights and dignity of others be so challenging to you that you say in advance you won't consider the facts..
@Connor G I don't understand why some people come on videos to spread their misery upon others because they don't agree with someone else's lifestyle. You shouldn't have wasted your time responding to JW Suicides comment. It was a waste of time to engage with that person. Just by their social media name that should say a lot about the person who came on here to troll because their life may be "idyll". I wonder how idyll their life really is.
@@jwsuicides8095 Surely it is preferable to redesign an existing space to building something new? Yes, he spent a fair amount of money, much more than a lot of us could afford, but for all we know elements of the design may be used in the future in other regeneration projects. I'm not going to condemn someone for making better use of existing spaces.
@@wilmaknickersfit I hear you but beyond that...what the hell is going on that people are lauded for having the money to cram themselves into shoeboxes? This is a great channel that expands my mind into further options. There is a difference between that and the politics of greed and suppression.

The shifting planes are so cool. Man, I love everything about this video. Also, I might be a little in love with Douglas now.
Seriously, I don't know which one is more incredible, if the apartment or the mind of the designer/owner. Not one word coming out of this guy is a waist, and the way he constructs his speech is as clever as his design. Humble with strong beliefs, secure enough to be willing to share his knowledge without reservations.
I loveeee how he explains his thought process and teaches us something along the way. If he had his own channel I'd watch him explain architecture concepts all day even though I have no interest in getting into the field myself lol
@Jason Lee i agree. How he maintains eye contact says a lot. Even tho the host is towering over him he looks right up at him and engages without deflecting

Don’t know if he voice does it for you the same as this guy’s, but you might want to check out the podcast “99% Invisible”. The host’s voice is very soothing
i really really like this architect’s consistency in explaining his design. i am sure he is expensive. i like the idea really in saving space, especially the table that pushes the boundaries of what is practical so that i don’t need to keep my piano under my bed. inspiring house design.
@@stevenjchang it's less about how it's interesting and more about the practicality of every single inch of his small apartment. He did say that he wanted people to instantly 'get' what he was going for instead of mulling over 'how do things work?' which I think, is very much admirable and interesting in its own way :)
Hey, Form of therapy, it's you! ^^ Yes, he appears to be a sort of highly intelligent+eloquent individual with heavy traits of an introvert...I'd love to listen to him talk over a cup of tea and in that beautiful raised sitting area...

Is anyone gonna talk about how yin yang is literally present in the whole apartment, there are white areas and there are black areas and also the interviewer is wearing black while the architect is wearing white
This might be the most beautiful micro studio apartment I've ever seen. So brilliantly engineered, spacious, and comfortable. It doesn't feel like much is sacrificed either -- and best of all, this feels like something that could be expanded at-large (ideally affordably!) especially in larger cities. Personally, I'd try to halve the length of the platform and install a murphy bed on the other side. This is one of my all-time favorite micro studio designs. Thank you for sharing!
9:48 - "I find usually that people are like water; people are more adaptable than objects." So interesting. That way he doesn't end up with a clutter of chairs all over-it's more of an organic approach to interacting with the space.

He may be an architect but he's definitely an Artist as well. This is outright beautiful.
Architects ARE artists, with vast technical knowledge and humanistic skills. Good architects are some of the coolest people in the universe ;)
Architecture is literally Art
Part engineer part artist.
Architecture is a design field. Design fields are art with purpose.
@president camacho More like artists failed out of design school. The principles learned in architecture are much harder than getting an art degree.
I FOUND IT FINALLY
I remember watching this a few years back and LOVING IT - everything, the incredibly practical, simple, spiritual, beautiful design and the architect himself
I suddenly had the urge to watch the video again and searched for a while - not dissapointed! Its so theraputic!
I gotta save this somewhere owo

A great example of when a owner creates a HOME and not purchases an investment. This home suits his individual needs, tastes, and wants, and it appears as if he was not worried about resale price or others perception. Good for him! Thank you Bryce for the tour!

Well said.
He's so poetic without even trying
He really is one of the most unintentionally intelligent people I’ve listened to. That place is incredible
“People are like water” Love it.
Yes, I especially loved that quote too!
Being able to adapt like water is a core teaching in Taoism.

Out of all the tiny house owners in Bryce's channel, this guy is the only one that I've heard giving meaning to things in this way. Kudos to you! You really gave yourself the best place to flow.
This architect compose his sentences with simple words but the way he constructs them to generate meaning is just... brilliant.
You can tell he reads everyday. He probably reads all sorts of genres too. The way he articulates what he’s trying to say is done in the most efficient way possible. There are no “likes” “um’s” or “literally’s”.

Honest architecture. Honestly what the world needs in our current time.
Absolutely. But our politicians keep selling huge acres of potential populous lands to millionaires and companies that reduce people to living in well.. cramped cities and suburbs

Wow...I'm going to run along with that person. ;)
I don't live in misery.I live in an idyll and I want others to be able to access the same if that's what they would find nurturing.
