To be honest it would be nice if they didn't keep doing kei cars and nuggets. I liked when they did the kei truck builds and hilux and took them off road. The brumby build was a breath of fresh air. Everything else seems like rehashing old ideas.
Moog and Marty, this comment will probably end up lost somewhere, but I just want to say thank you. You have taught me so many things, ignited my passion for DIY and provided such excellent entertainment. Huge thanks and cheers from Finland ✌🏻
One of the most inspirational quotes you made during this journey is "Doing something only if it makes sense is a very limited way of viewing the world." I'm paraphrasing that, but thank you for that quote.
words cannot describe the love i have for this build. costs be damned - it's just too satisfying to see a project with a clear and focused vision come to life. i bet this will feel great to drive.
@@bwickham195 TBF removing airbags (and plugging them back in) always gives me the heebie-jeebies...esp since I owned one of those 'take your eye out' Takata ones...
@@ad_fletch tbf, if you're doing it on an old car, chances are that airbag wouldn't go off in an accident, let alone when you're removing it while working on the car.
Easy, so you can press the paddle while turning on tight mountain passes corners, with the puny stock paddles is almost impossible to so. I would rather drive a manual, but most new VAGs with higher trims/engines variants are DSG only nowadays... So to be able to at least use the paddles properly is a welcome feature that doesn't come stock.
Miles and Tuning Fork are so good at what they do, they are not only Brilliant People, but Genuine and Kind. Would be an honor to call them a "Friend" for sure👍
Thank you for uploading! Been watching all the GTI videos and now I am starting my build. Got 034 turbo inlet, cobb intake and tune, and GFB DV+ bolted on.
Moog and Marty, I stumbled across this channel about a month ago when I saw you bought an up! - I had the Skoda variant as my first car (Citigo), base model with absolutely nothing in it. The GTI was always my dream attainable car and I picked one up in February with my dream spec and I was beyond happy, I love these cars and I’m so glad to see little bits from my car on an older up - it’s just amazing!! Love from Northern Ireland ❤️🇬🇧
Im so glad Moog got this sorted. Watching this series feels like watching the Mini all over again. You can feel how much he has wanted to get it completed and the smile on his face at the end really backs it up

Boys, your commitment to nuggetry is unparalleled, the fact that this build makes no financial sense doesn’t matter when your making something that doesnt exist where you are. Two specky thumbs up from me 👍🏻👍🏻
We have an up! in the family and we love it. Always wondered how cool it would be with a bit more mumbo from the 3 cylinder. Awesome job on the gti conversion.
Lads, life got in the way, I also bought an AMG which needed zero doing to it. So I was out of the MCM loop for a year. Then an odd thing happened. I realised fannying about with cars was integral to my life, started watching you guys again, chucked the AMG, and bought a 32yo nugget to restore. I might not be full-sleeper-izing this car, but you guys are SOOO enthusiastic, thanks for helping inspire people like me. This will be my 3rd modded car, all done on the drive, since watching you guys since 2018.
The 35th subscriber, Andrew, from Unicorn Circuit is an absolute Legend! He provided the piece that made this 100% ! And ladies look out, Miles is like a VAG wizard!
So its basically a bolt- in- conversion :) The UP! is not an MQB car because its just way to small for that. Any conversion bigger than the 3- cylinders it comes with and you have to cut away alot from the car to make it work. The UP! GTI is expensive here in germany, but its a fun tiny little hot hatch :)
Loved this, the makes-no-sense build, combatting the obstacles, and most of all, seeing you people work together 👍 Thanks once again for the video ❤ Cheers for southern Finland ;)
What a massive miles-stone!! 😏 At the end of the video you can feel the sense of relief and emotion after all the issues had been resolved and the key is turned. Never give UP!
This channel is great. Humble, down to earth with personality. And unlike other channels (from the states (coughtavarish)) you actually finish projects. Great channel, thanks
We dont build our cars to make financial sense, its all about the journey of owning something that puts a smile on your face and you will look back at everytime you park it. Love this series guys! Thanks for not giving up and fighting this thing all the way.
This is so far from the early days of cramming iPads into old nuggets. I watch a lot of professional mechanic channels (not modifying.. Just repair stuff) and it's crazy watching the boys do basically dealership quality work. Well done👏
This has been an awesome Journey! I don't know if you'll see tbis comment, but I found you guys back when you released Turbo's and Temples 1 and I've been following ever since! You guys inspired me to import my current JDM hatchback! Thanks for being so genuinely honest in every video you make, its one of the many reasons I come back. Much love from BC, Canada!
I love seeing others at their happiest brings me the only little joy I have left in life thanks for making content for all these years. Watching you guys keeps my mind at bay.
There's nothing like the feeling of a completed project. Be it small or large, those moments of just sitting back and looking at what you've done, and those first test drives.
Taytay and 2 Sexy will always be the golden age of MCM for me, but being an FD RX-7 lover to the core of my being, I obviously can't wait for Marty's FD build to kick off.
Ah man I am so happy to see this nugget running! I now the trials and tribulations you've been through well, it's excellent to see it turn out so perfectly!
Always appreciate you guys showing the entire process warts and all - I blew a fuse when installing an amp behind my head unit last month and felt so stupid. You guys having the same thing happen helped soothe my ego 🙌
From the start I have understood this one. I have owned a Camry All-Trac since 2010. The original plan was to cram a 3S-GTE into it, now I am putting together parts to install a 2.7 from a Highlander or Venza. It's a low-value car that most wouldn't look at twice, but it's a load of fun to drive courtesy of the rally car suspension crammed under the rear end and I love it for its nuggety goodness.
MCM has been pure inspiration for me, since way back in the early days when I didn't know how to change my wiper blades, and years later I do all major servicing and repairs on my own cars, recently picked up a Renault Twingo II for a second car, RS? nope... bog standard 1.2 16v and its my favourite nugget, so easy to work on, and it certainly made me appreciate simplicity, because its sooo slow you get to use 100% of the car and its super fun.
As an up tsi owner, it’s great to see it being recognized by you guys and turned into what it is now, but it actually isn’t the first in the world, in Brasil there are some gti converted ups, since we have the 4 door turbo version and the 2dr NA one too. There is a guy, Tawer Rosa, owner of Tork One who built a 1.4 TSI 4cyl in an up and it is ridiculous! This company has 300+ hp UPs! That’s insane
Just so you know, since we don't have supercheap autos, or any other big auto shop here in France, each time you tell us about a nice thing you got there it makes me cry. I hope you're proud of yourself
Always makes me happy that you lads not only champion little nuggets like these, but stick the projects out to the bitter end. Marty's Mira was the same. Enjoy it!
I could be talking out of the wrong orifice, but I thought the majority of project cars went way over the actual value of the original car itself. Sure it's been frustrating and expensive, but I think for those that do this kind of thing, it's a lifestyle. Well done on sticking with this project.

It has been really interesting. I hope you don't have to do this again anywhere in near future. 😄 It has seem to be such a headache.
I don't have paddle extensions on my Mk7.5 Golf R, but I want them. My reason is in really tight turns you can end up with crossed arms with your hands at 9+3 where the paddles are. The car will upshift for you at redline, but I'd rather upshift at 5500. Paddle extensions make it so you can reach the paddles with your hands anywhere between 2-4 and 8-10. Not a huge difference, but a slight hand shift and you can click up a gear. I completely agree they look awful bad, that's the main reason I haven't installed them.
5:29 It's because when youre daily driving late to work - coffee in one hand and toast in the other, and your knee's steering that flatt bottom wheel, and youre in a corrner, mostly roundabouts, you can still snap a comfortable 2nd/3rd/4th up or down-shift with thattop part of the paddle extender. Peeps with this mod kno! mk6GolfR S2+
Blown fuse .... Not "Everything Bang" as a choice with the head unit, Moog? 😉 Also with the paddles, likely so people with different driving styles can still properly use them. I position my hands on the wheel a bit differently to most other drivers, so too small paddles in a stock position would annoy me.
Yeah, I heard this too. It sounded like it was clipping. I was watching at 2x speed which seemed to make it more noticeable. I'm not sure if it was the same for you too. All the live Mic audio seemed to clip. The voice-over audio was fine though.
Extending paddles makes it easier to locate them when grinding at the wheel. Some high-end cars have the paddles fixed to the column. That way, the paddles are in the same position regardless of the steering wheel & easily locatable.
So happy for you Moog...this little German engineered rocket has fought you all the way, but I'm glad you finally got it sorted (even thou it cost you a small fortune and many grey hairs). Big props to all the talented friends who helped along the way 👏
Moog im just watching topgear first ep, seems like your the only one thats not faking it or putting on a act for the camera, you seem a natural....I only miss the parts of you trying to drive a left hand drive supercar for the first time.....I can just Imagine how you and Marty would have produced it.......great voice overs to......definatly toned down from MCM haha

I have done the same thing 3 years ago, with GTI dashboard, rain sensor , GTI brakes and much much more . I can say I changed everything on the car , and it makes 156 hp on a stage 3
Man I will buy a vw up 2013 white for a *cheap* price and I just want to improve performance. How much it will cost me to do such covertion If I just find the parts needed and done it from a professional? Thanks

I know Moog (Marty too) are audio guys so I don't think it was negligence on their part.. but it is rough to listen to. THAT SAID... I stuck it out and it was so cool to see this little klumpen (German for nugget) get put together. Thanks again as always for the awesome content, guys-- Cheers!

Man idk why they audio in this one sounds like it was recorded on cheap earbuds.
Massive effort guys well done !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
Got mine about a week ago, fantastic car, congrats on your build Moog
