Yeah, Excelsior Park, Nivada Grenchen and Vulcain are all revived/run by Guillaume Laidet. If the watch meets Swiss rules of 60% by value and final assembly in Switzerland, it’s ‘Swiss Made’, even if many of the components are not.

Excelsior Park is owned by the same person who bought and revived the Nivada Grenchen name, Guillaume Laidet and his Chinese partners. I believe the watches are mainly manufactured in China. However there are different levels of chinese manufacturing and the the modern Nivada Grenchen pieces I own easily rival or even beat some Swiss made brands for quality. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts.

I am not interested in this Hong kong guillaume laidet "Nivada grenchen" story , if i look for Nivada Grenchen it will be Vintage for sure .

The movement looks exactly like an ETA 2801 that you find in manual wind Hamilton Khakis.
The blued screws seem painted to my eye, not heat blued, which makes me wonder if this is actually a Chinese clone of a Swiss movement, and not the real thing. I don't think they paint screws blue in Switzerland.

The Landeron company had a long history of producing movements, and was famous for their chronograph ones.
They went bankrupt during the quartz "crisis".
Some companies now use NOS (new old stock) movements, which they service and lubricate.
They were revived in 2018. They now produce 2 sets of movements - economy and premium. The economy ones are assembled in Switzerland, but manufactured in China. They mostly do ETA clones now.

@@ercanbanka5377 You would be surprised how many Swiss watch companies do this. Swiss Made means 60% of the costs are spent in Switzerland, but 60% of the case, so not including the bracelet or strap. Therefore, about 50%, or less, of the entire watch costs can be done elsewhere.

They are not Nivada Grenchen and never will be .

@@ercanbanka5377 Rolex and Patek do produce everything in Switzerland, as far as I know. With the mention that Patek does have parts and movements manufactured by other companies, as JLC.
But you have to aknowledge the price points.
Watches up until £5k or so would, most of the time, have parts manufactured elsewhere. This is a reality.
When it comes to revived brands, I agree that most are not the real brands, therefore cannot claim the heritage.
I would be more concerned about the quality and the reputation of the brand than where they were manufactured. Especially for that price point.
When deciding to buy a watch, I have 3 main requirements - to like the design, the quality and brand's reputation.
A 4th and final thing would be if I can afford it and if I consider it's worth the asking price.

Surprises me that in 2024, companies are legally allowed to write 'since ...' on their products without continuously being in business since that particular year.
The word 'since' implies continuity - as in - 'excelsior park has been making watches since 1886'. In this case, of course, this is false. The company was defunct for decades between 1886 and today. Seems deceiving to me, and many companies, including some very prestigious ones, are guilty of doing this.

Charging those prices doesn’t.
