Tammi Terrell died in 1970 aged just 24 years old. Marvin Gaye never really got over her death and is probably the reason for his depression and drug addiction. Awesome song, They did some great duets.
Marvin was in love with her. When she died, Marvin was never the same. Their chemistry showed it. He continued to write great music, but he missed her bad.
MrWadada1: So true. She was so young, and with a great voice. After her death, he talked about just stepping back for a long while. He eventually got back to Motown producing 4 tracks for "The Original's, 'Baby I'm for Real' album". After those tracks, he started on the "What's Going On?" album. If you hear the tracks on "The Originals" LP, you can see how he was on the way to produce & record one of the greatest albums in pop music history.
You are right about Marvin Gaye never getting over her death but they were close friends. He wasn't in love with her. She was his favorite singing partner.
@@ellenjones7819 He told someone in an interview that he felt like he was her big brother and it was his responsibility to look out for her and take care of her and so when she passed away so suddenly he felt somehow personally responsible.
Why no one has made a movie about Tammi is beyond me. Her story is tragic and uplifting. Marvin never recovered from her death. A real heartbreaking story.
Tammi was beautiful.Though she suffered years with a brain tumor ,she made the most of the years she had.Such a short life. She was mature beyond her years. Marvin Gaye was such a great singer . The two brought out the best in each others singing.
The horrible truth in life is , is men like Marvin have a terrible time , tall good looking charming intelligent , they get all the crap from every angle , his album Here here my dear , if you havent heard it , its the best youll hear+ vulnerable
@@lajas46 : Yes, it was also on a compilation album called Marvin Gaye & his girls. Tammi, Kim, and Mary Wells. The picture with Tammi and that Fab green dress was from the cover art of the "You're All I Need" LP. Great close up of he and Mary, and Kim had the big bouffant hair. Great LP!

I loved how Tammi took the melody and Marvin took the harmony on this song (and others). Sadly, they only recorded 2 albums together - - United (1967) and You're All I Need (1968). I really hope you do a reaction video to their other duet "You're All I Need To Get By." Also, check out Marvin's solo recording of "That's The Way Love Is".

Marvin and Tammi were only on this earth a very short time but they left us this precious jewel of a song which will keep them alive for a very long time. Thanks for posting this.
I must have heard this song hundreds of times over the years, if not close to a thousand. And I swear I get chills everytime Tammi Terrell sings this part: "My love is alive / way down in my heart / although we are miles apart". Every. Single. Time.
Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell recorded 12 songs together (before her tragic death at the age of 24 from a brain tumour) this being one of their best also worth checking out is the Onion song.
Golden song. These two together were, what legends are made of. The brilliant 1960’s score again. Marvin is only 28 here. God, they were as sweet as a peach.
Marvin & Tammi out in front of the Roostertail restaurant in Detroit. Song written by Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Tammi was a Philly girl. Thomasina Montgomery. She was an R&B/Blues singer before going to Motown. Yes, her death effected Marvin deeply BUT not the only reason for his downward spiral; issues with Motown, his brother, a Vietnam vet, who had PTSD and his father, who would later murder him, contributed heavily.
SO glad you're reacting to a live version of this song. Marvin had a real impact on women -- just the way he looked at you, and this video shows that. The downcast eyes, the sly little smile .... just SCREAMS sexy! If you look at some of Tom Jones videos , he used the same technique.
just how good they sounded together... and they really gave you the impression they were in LOVE ! I just can't get enough of these two singing together ! just so sad they are gone !

Two beautiful human beings that combined to make my high school years a truly special time. They had great chemistry together and are now no doubt serenading the angels in heaven with their talented voices. RIP Marvin and Tammi! Your music will live on forever in my life!
I gotta say I love the look you get when you are blown away. Since I'm an old far of 61, I've heard most of these songs already. I will never forget re-watching your reaction to Freddy Mercury and Bohemian Rhapsody. I could anticipate when you'd go, "WOW". Keep them coming.

Marvin is one of the greatest crooners that has ever been. You plainly hear the powerful magic of the blending of their voices. This tune becomes perfection with their energies.
"Ain't No Mountain is a great song written by Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson that was performed beautifully by Tammy and Marvin and completely different but just as great by Diana Ross.
I can say this is one of my all time fav songs. I sang this to my son from when he was born while holding him and feeding him and for yrs as he grew up. Now he is a teen and i this song will come on the radio and he smiles cuz he knows and remembers it's our song. He will say Yes Ma I remember you singing this to me over the years lol❤Love love love this video. Have watched this many times over the years. Diana Ross also did her own version of this song and it is just as good. ❤your reaction too. This song will always be a classic. Just so beautiful
I still think it was all the beatings she suffered at the hands of James Brown as a sexually exploited underage backup singer. Her family sent her out there with him and never would address it. She was classy, funny, sweet in a pixie way; we lived near her and my sister attended her funeral. It was so big, I remember traffic was tied up for hours.
