Tammy had such a pure voice! They were a great pairing. Sadly, cancer robbed the world of the superstar she would have become.
Never mind become ,she was a superstar .
It was said they were but they were really good friends before she passed.
Tammi Terrell died from complications due to a brain tumor.
She actually died of a brain aneurysm. She collapsed on stage and he carried her off the stage
She actually died from brain cancer.
Marvin never hid anything about his life and he said they were very close but never lovers.
But of all the duets he did, the ones with Tammi were the best.

Mavin was madly in love with Tammi but he also had a darker side he was hiding so he was heart broken when she died because he never got the chance to really express himself to her. Dammm, that's FU.
Many people say they actually were lovers but had to hide it. Tammi's 'darker side' was no worse that Marvin's. Tammi was beaten terribly by James Brown and David Ruffin. She has reasons to have problems.
Marvin is in my top 5 greatest singers all time….. Tammy was great and had a marvelous voice gone to early….. Rest In Power to both legends
R&B needs to come back to this. Music that honor healthy relationships instead of focusing on negativity. I don't think Marvin and Tammi were an actual couple, but they could convince you they were.
They were emotionally involved only. He was married and his wife refused to give him a divorce.
I dont believe they had nothing but a platonic friendship but they cares for each other deeply...Marvin was never the name after her untimely death...So sad...

These two, Tammi and Marvin were not lovers, but they were indeed very close friends. In truth in 1970 when Tammi died at the ripe young age of 24 Marvin was never quite the same. Although at the time they made these songs Marvin was married, it seems that his love for Tammi was everlasting.

The doctors did not tell her she was dying.
They thought she would give up on life.

Marvin was heartbroken 💔 & devastated when Tammy passed away ( as I was, shed a lot of tears) Their voices together - heaven sent from above ☝️💎💎💎 I am sure they are singing together once again, take time to listen for their voices 🤗💞

The chemistry!! Marvin and Tammi may not have been involved romantically (although they were very close) but the song was written by the legendary husband and wife team of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. While at Motown they also wrote songs including Ain't No Mountain High Enough, You're All I Need to Get By, Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing and Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand). Ashford and Simpson also performed some of their own songs and had the hit "Solid" in the 80's.

Tammi Terrell had dated James Brown and David Ruffin (both relations had problems...you can read about them). She was engaged to be married when she became ill/died. Marvin Gaye married Berry Gordy's sister Anna in 1963. Tammi Terrell had a great voice and her songs (with and without Marvin Gaye were so good...)
The song was written by Ashford and Simpson who were married and would later release their own records.
Marvin sang songs with several Motown ladies. Mary Wells was another Motown lady he made a record with.
Marvin adored Tammi but she was in love with another man. Listen to anything they did and you will love it! I'm old enough that I have enjoyed their music for over 50 years!
Marvin never got over her death, he really loved this women deeply. They were really good friends. By the way this is one of the many songs that the husband and wife writing team Ashford and Simpson wrote for them.

Most of their duets were written and arranged by married couple Nicholas Ashford & Valerie Simpson. Marvin and Tammi weren't in a relationship. Most times they were never in the studio together. Their vocal tracks were recorded separately and later mixed by the engineer. Same with Him and Kim Weston and Diana Ross. You should look up all the songs Ashford & Simpson wrote for so many artist inside AND outside Motown. Take a listen to another A&S song involving Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross titled "Just Say, Just Say".
Though Nick and Val weren't married (or in a relationship) at the time these songs were written. Little known fact, Val wrote the music and Nick wrote the lyrics. Yes, even I'm Every Woman.

Back in the 60s in Detroit we had CKLW on AM radio. Now my dad was from the WWIi generation. He would make fun of our music, calling it hippy music. But, when a Motown song would come on, dad would turn it up. I remember riding in the car when this song came on. Dad turned it up and lit a smoke. That's when you know he was loving that tune.

No, they never had a romantic relationship, they did care for one another, when she died Marvin Gaye fell apart, He said later in a interview, that when she died a part of him went with her. He took some time off after her death performing.
