I think what you said about Disney being "too careful" to design their female characters defines current Hollywood. They're so scared to offend ANYONE that all characters are generic, blank slates. There is no drama, nothing to tickle your brains, to make you feel anything. The static character arc is usually very boring, but there are many ways to handle it well; this is definitely not one of those cases.

I just can't get over how bad the writing is to see this. Magnifico likes control, so he wants to hire an apprentice and then shows the candidates how the wishes work? That makes zero sense. How the hell can't people figure out mathematically not all wishes would be granted (since he only does one a month) - can't they do a basic fucking calculation and see the odds? When they give up their wishes, do they also forget why they came to Rosas in the first place AND forget that Magnifico can grant wishes? Why should Magnifico be forced to use his powers for others? He went and founded the island, so clearly there are other places in the world. Leave and go work hard yourself to grant wishes if it's a big deal. Or Asha could've just played the long game and learn how to grant wishes and then rebel! And that's just a fraction of the issues. They didn't remotely think this thing through. What a let down for the 100 year anniversary movie. (For the math, let's say there are 5000 people and no one is born, moves in or dies. He grants 12 wishes a year (and people SHOULD recall that happening). That's almost 417 YEARS before he hits everyone. Why would anyone be shocked that their wish won't be granted?)
It's implied that they didn't fully understand the price. Giving up your wish is supposed to be like giving a piece of your soul away, that it changes you. And they also didn't know that the vast majority of people would never have their wish granted. To be fair, I think this should have been emphasized in the story more strongly.
It’s a very ok-to-fine movie, but Disney is so tarnished, I understand why everyone is being harsh. I think a few years ago, every review would have been like mine. “Hey it’s alright, solid 7” and that would have been that. The current climate of disliking everything from Disney is their own fault, and I can’t feel bad for them, but the movie is a good time
Weirdly, I agree with the king. If you give everyone their wish, that totally wouldn't ruin society. Plus, they knowingly move there and give up their wish. WILLINGLY. This movie is actually stupid.
Sorry, my Disney boycott still stands. Will perhaps reconsider if they do a full remival of the entire current C suite, including Marvel and Lucasfilm. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! ❤
You don't think the ending a bit odd for kids? The queen helps imprison her husband in a device, shows no remorse about his fate and takes over his position as leader. A very good example for kids - husbands suck and coups are the way forward.
I haven’t started this video yet so I’m just going to say what I think up front. I liked the idea of Disney finally having a straightforward villain again but they didn’t deliver since in the first half of the movie, he’s not evil just misguided and in the second he’s enslaved by a magic book. I like the message of actively seeking out what you want instead of just wishing but I honestly think that it’s muddled by the ending where Asha becomes the new Fairy Godmother. (I also think that the same message was better done by Aladdin and for that matter by Puss in Boots 2). And I think Encanto had much better songs. I do like the Easter Eggs to older Disney movies and I wouldn’t call this movie bad. I think that it’s average more than anything else.
And average is better than much of what they’ve done lately. But definitely not what you are looking for as a 100th anniversary film for one of the most historic and influential animation studios in the world.
Meh, is interesting how he starti with someone a little understandable but half movie he just become crazy for the sake of it, and turns out just boring
Of course you do, people are actually happy the way things are then the girlboss comes along starts sht for the sake of girlbossing and everything goes to sht.
Honestly it think the thing that hurt this movie the most is that they had to hit the villain with the crazy stick otherwise he would be the hero. For me, having a hero be the hero just because you forced insanity unther the designited wrong person is a admition the desinated wrong person was right.
Am I understanding you to say that the villain built a village and invited people to live there under his rule but then they didn’t like his way of ruling and instead of leaving they killed him. 😂😂
Popstars writing the songs explains everything. I also disagree; Asha's "culture" (a fictional island in the Mediterranean sea with New York diversity that's somehow "Latinx") is the culmination of Disney's inoffensive homogeneity that they've been doing since at least the 90s. Jasmine's supposed to be Arabian, but her film had India/South Asian references (cause they all brown, get it?). Mulan was Chinese, but was pan-East Asian. Elsa is pan-Scandinavian/Northern European. Moana had criticism for being ambiguously pan-Polynesian, and Raya was pan-Southeast Asian with a mostly East Asian VA.
Are you talking about live-action Jasmine or the original cartoon? At least in the cartoon they clearly gave her Middle-Eastern facial features. This Asha girl doesn't look Mediterranean by any means (either European-Mediterranean or North African-Mediterranean). It's borderline insulting that they'd use my country as a reference to set the story and totally disregard its culture and ethnics at the same time.
i feel like you didn't delve into the other fundamental cog-diss-- that making a teenage girl the permanent....Vajtator (girl version of dictator?) and presumably in total, uncontested control of the realm (including magic?), for life, for no particular reason, is somehow the perfectly reasonable solution to all problems in life.
Greg, love your channel. Do you ever think about doing other family reviews like games? I'm in your target audience and struggle to find games appropriate for varied ages.
I'm not Greg but how about having a look at Karma Zoo? It's a online coop platform game where different animal and object team up to make it through levels. If you don't mind something short, Octodad is a wholesome and funny game where you play as a perfectly normal human dad. :P If you don't mind flashy explosions, Copy Kitty is a platformer game where you copy your opponents power and mix them. It's the gift that keep on giving. Ultimate Chicken Horse is a multiplayer platformer game where you try to make to the end while preventing the other doing by putting obstacles to screw each others Quite funny. :D But you'll probably want a second opinion from Greg *Wink wink nudge nudge* Edit: if you have a Switch, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is pretty good and the end of the game is a fever dream and the stuff of legend, avoid spoilers if possible. Also there's the Super Mario RPG remake. It was a great SNES rpg and is still good.
@@Mewseeker thanks for the suggestions!! My daughter isn't really good enough to play most games so they need to be pretty easy or non-competitive. Untitled Goose game was great for her.
Thanks for the review, Greg! Great balance. At the holiday table yesterday, this movie came up and the parents said it looked cute and they'd catch it with their kids on Disney+. BUT - that's a MAJOR problem for Disney. They don't gain anything EXTRA for that. If they hadn't left streamers like Netflix, they'd be gaining third party revenue in the millions. Now with D+, Disney is just transferring money from the right to left pocket and not gaining revenue. They put all their eggs in one theatrical basket.
The irony is that, if anyone should know that greed and jealousy are bad, it should be Disney, since the whole reason for D+ is their greed and jealousy... on which they have lost billions of dollars.
Yeah no sorry I trusted Disney after Andor on Ashoka and on MOM after Spider-Man No Way Home only to get burned with both a boring half-lecture and sometimes just a boring story. They destroyed characters I loved such as Ahsoka, Sabine and Hera and just misused characters like Thrawn and Ezra. Then reset characters like Wanda Maxim-off and retconned a story about how your loss can lead you to hurt everyone else around you. So I will not be willing to give anything Disney makes now any of my time or hope. The only thing that makes me feel anything is anime. Like the story of “Frieren: Beyond Journey's End” about appreciating life & the time you do have with those around you. Or Eden’s Zero a story about a journey of adventure and the true meaning of friendship & loyalty. Then Rezero a story about the cost of sacrifice and how you can’t save everyone. No matter how hard you try but that doesn’t mean you give up & just decide to die in a ditch.
1:31, that was actually a clever bit of foreshadowing given that later on Asha (inspired by her Grandfather) inspired the people with song to form a mob to overthrow Magnifico just like Magnifico said
They are just saying that cause the actress is Afro-Latina. But this is a made of country and in Latin America they didn’t have princesses just the one that ruled them in Spain.
It's almost like people from back then had some kind of idea that women had some kind of inspirational effect on men. An effect that a lot of gay men and feminists either don't understand, don't share, or don't appreciate... or sometimes even acknowledge.
Isn't this movie set in Europe? So unless the main character is from a country based on the Latin American region (which DOES NOT include any European countries, not even Spain), to call her Afro-Latina would be inaccurate. Assuming she's from a Spain-like country, she'd be Hispanic but not Latina, as she is from a Spanish speaking country (which would be Hispanic), but she is not from Latin American countries in South/Central America (which would have been Latina).
The main point is that she is a generic "ethnic" girl. I don't believe they connect her to any nation/culture. She's just as "Hispanic" as she is "Afro-Latina". She can also be a Hispanic or Indian girl with braids. The island is very diverse. One of her friends is Asian, so there's no reason why Asha couldn't be Afro-Latina. The island welcomed people "from all over the world", so she could literally be from anywhere.
I don’t understand the logic behind the premise of this film. Why are people giving their wishes away instead of working toward them? I guess you couldn’t work toward things like flying, invisibility, etc. but, in the real world, we get along just fine and can lead happy lives without those abilities.
Satanism: The Movie The villain is an analog for God the Father. A king who hears everyone's prayers. But Satanists see God as a tyrant, who would answer some prayers and not others based on who worships him. And the heroine, teams up with a fallen star. Lucifer, the morning star, who was cast down from heaven. Satanists see Lucifer as a heroic figure, who rebelled against a tyrannical god. To them, he is Prometheus, a bringer of light. And the heroine's sidekick is a goat. Symbolizing that Asha is not a sheep, but a goat. Goats also being a common symbol of satan and satanism.
Afro-latina. Kinda like Miles Morales in spider-verse. (Just saw the second one). What makes him an interesting character is because he has an arch, not his heritage, (Unless your talking about the spider heritage which certainly plays a strong role there).
I've never been disappointed at a Disney animated movie all my life and I grew up with the Disney Renaissance. That being said, Wish is one of my least favorite Disney movies. Just as underwhelming as Frozen II.
In my opinion, the fatal mistake in this film was that Disney recruited inappropriate songwriters and composers for a film celebrating 100 years of Disney. Julia Michaels as the songwriter for this film is indeed talented, but she is new to writing songs for Disney and it seems like she doesn't really understand how to write songs in storytelling musical films like this one properly, so most of the songs aren't that impressive or memorable. For Disney's 100th anniversary film, Disney should have recruited songwriters and composers who had experience working at Disney before, such as Alan Menken, Randy Newman, Glenn Slater, The Lopezs, Lin Manuel Miranda, and at least they collaborated so that the songs would be impressive. They all have more experience writing songs to tell stories in films than Julia Michaels. It's a shame that a film that was supposed to be a celebration of Disney's 100th anniversary ended up like this 😢
Disney's concept of "wishing" has always been suspect. From the old song, "everything your heart desires will come to you" is a popular refrain, but nowhere close to realistic or aspirational. Similarly, the concept of an Entity (loopy King, loopy godmother, whatever) that grants wishes is little more than a dysfunctional and supremely shallow misunderstanding of God. The Disney writers of old would have had a hard time with this. The modern Woke Mafia was never going to be able to produce anything good with this concept.
If this animation fails to recapture the magic of Renaissance-era Disney and underperforming at box office, I think this wouldn't be much of a damage for them as long as their latest MCU movie "The Marvels" keep making money. Everything is alright... right? *RIGHT!?*
5:17 how!? How is she “Afrolatina!?” That’s practically impossible!? This takes place before the slave trade in the Mediterranean. At this point way doe it matter when race and ethnic background are ignored despite the historical inaccuracy and demographic of the settings for goofy modernism and inclusivity!? Frozen 2, Encanto, The Witcher, Brighton, etc. are ethically homogeneous titles lose all meaning. It’s crazy sad that she’s the “first Afro Latina princess” because it just goes to show that their DEI crap is shallow and meaningless. I’m so sick of the “suits” lumping black people together with another demographic to check as many boxes as possible.
The problem being that it's too little too late. I'm done. I don't trust Disney as far as I can throw them. And with my bad knee, I shouldn't be throwing anyone.
is there anywhere i can watch this movie free without buying disney plus? i don't really want to give them my money, but i also am curious if it's actually as bad as everyone says, lol
According to Film Threat they were contacted by both current and former animators, and they said the original concept of the movie was the origins of "When you wish upon a star", which I think would be more fitting for a movie celebrating 100yrs. All that aside, I only plan to see this movie if my 7yr old girl have interest in seeing it. I have no desire to sit through a mediocre movie, especially when there was a time when Disney had the secret source when it came to their movie.
I liked it and it benefits from how badly I wanted to like it. But I have to say the biggest disappointment for me was the music. I know you guys liked it, but the writers primarily work on contemporary pop music for stars like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez and while they’re talented, it shows. They didn’t sound at all like Disney bangers to me. I wish they’d had more of the theatrical musical deal-I was SO EXCITED to see we were getting a real villain song and when I saw it was called “At All Costs” I was READYYYYY. I wanted it to be like “Be Prepared” or “Poor Unfortunate Souls” but instead…it was generic pop ballad. I didn’t get it at all. If you read the lyrics, he’s singing to the wishes…but it genuinely reads like a scrapped song for a celebrity that they tweaked for the movie. I really hated that. Ughhhh I wanted this to be excellent so bad but I’m tired of the quirky protagonist and the pop music and the fart jokes. Also the fact that Asha’s hair never left her shoulder made me physically uncomfortable and I kept trying to brush my own hair out of my face and back because it bothered me so much 😂😂
Your so right about all of that and just had to say I also noticed the hair!! It makes me feel like the animators wanted to be lazy and not have it moving around like it should be
I didn’t hear any Latina vibes from this story. She needs to win the day by stealing the kings heart then guilting the king into doing the right thing or gaslighting the hell out of him. Not going to see it cause I’m a single adult male but
Did it feel like a love story could have been added? Most of the recent Disney movies have been completely absent of it as part of the unfortunate Her-o’s journey
Doesn't matter, Disney could shit out the best thing since Jurassic Park and I still wouldn't see it. Not after the last 7 years of insults and garbage they have pumped out. She Hulk was the last straw.
There's so many animatics that seek to fix Wish, it's so crazy!!! When I learned of the scrapped ideas, I felt so robbed! XD Anyways, I found out that I didn't really enjoy the movie personally. I DID enjoy it when I first saw it in theaters, but after seeing the animatics playing off of scrapped ideas, I turned a complete 180%. XD
I think you’re missing the point about the comparison to God. I get what you’re saying in regards to it being more of an allegory of a totalitarian state. However, it needs to be said that this is EXACTLY how many in Hollywood view God. The fact is, I was seeing even atheists make the God comparison, so it’s definitely a valid theory. You just have to understand the people involved.
What is Disney spending all this money on, you ask? Well, to say they're p*ssing it away would be too polite. Take an example from Jungle Cruise: They spent millions on animating and "personalizing" river dolphins, which are onscreen for way less than a minute, but seemingly none on a coherent, compelling story in which the world-building all hangs together or the characters are interesting. THEY PERSONALIZED RIVER DOLPHINS, BUT MADE THE HUMAN CHARACTERS STEREOTYPES.
Imagine what the movie would have been like if it had been about the origin of the "When you wish upon a star" song. Allegedly, this was the original concept for the film according to the FilmThreat channel.
Something another RUclipsr pointed out is that ever female main character since Tangled, regardless of ethnicity or whatever, has had the exact same face. Is that intentional? Are they just really lazy at making faces? Are they just reusing animation assets? What's going on there?
Your review made me think of all the classical Disney princess stories. It looks like most of them have “meh” princess characters but the Villains, my oh my are they interesting. Think Aurora and Maleficent, they made movies and sequel out of the villain. Again w/ snow white and the Evil Queen, a whole abc TV series sprung out of the Evil Queen. Even Cinderella and Lady Tremaine, lady Tremaine is quite interesting and expressive. So, at least Disney did return to its roots in that regard. Asha may well could have been anyone, so the bare minimum they did was give her brown color and cornrows.
Another small issue with this movie: the character motivations and plot in general is almost completely incoherent. Small quibble glad you enjoyed though
So... If the country they are in it's a "latino" one, then yes, people can be and are different skin tone (trust me, that can happen even in the same family... Heck, my skin have different shades according the time of day, how much time I spend outside and the type of clothes I use, i know it's weird but true). The setting, being a Colonial type, it's kinda true. Every Latin American country does have at least one zone or mini city with the building from the Colonial time. With the villain, it's also common to see the person in charge be "magnificent" in public and go ballistic when it's position it's threaten. And, if you believe the rumors, they do have tides with a "brujo" (a witch) that help him get in power and stay there. But the "no clear culture" thing, it's almost true. It's almost imposible to not find traces of influence of the races that mixed back in the day, but that mixed was what makes the things you identify as Latino, ours. And because every country in Latin America was mixed a tad bit different, there are subtle differences between ourself too. The protagonist drive to grant every single wish, though, it's factually a bad idea. But leaving it to a person that it's the representation of the government in Latin America, it's kinda worst, if our political climate it's anything to go by, at least
Even Puss in Boots Last Wish from Dreamworks more better than Disney , by story telling , concept of Wishing Star and a balls to giving a character that " I Don't give a sh_t nonsense , I'm Evil for the sake of evil " Which Disney becoming lack their guts of it Wish seems like a generic product to overboast Disneys overused tropes
15 years ago, I would agree that this would fall more along the lines of a traditional Disney film. However, when you explain that its about an old, white male...who holds all the power, is squandering the hopes and dreams of his subjects (most of which are not old or white), and that he can only be defeated by a strong, diverse female character... So, if by "traditional", you mean continuing to be the propaganda division of the woke movement, then yeah, I guess they're still doing that. lol
I watched this movie for about 30 minutes, and couldn’t keep doing it. Also I personally hate this is the thanks I get more then just about abusing I’ve ever seen
Hi! Animation student here! A few peers and I talked about this movie when it came out, we believe they tried to go Spiderverse with the animation but failed to do so. The movie looked more like “3D animation with a pretty storyboard background” which I agree. I loved seeing the concept art they had more than watching the movie and wish (ha) they went more for that than the end product
I think Disney has earned their failure and the weak attempts to straddle the fence between customers and woke is just prolonging the agony. Here is my tough love...grow up, move on let Disney fall so a new company can move in and fill the void. Angel Studios and Bent Key are moving in that direction already.
So...this movie is a representation of how Walt Disney "really" wanted to start off his career with, right? Basically, if white didn't sell when he was growing up and the country was all about diversity and fun and fancy free living?
I refused to watch this in theaters, I am thankful I streamed it and it’s terrible…this doesn’t make sense being a Disney film…terrible writing, weird characters and the animation seemed boring
I don't know man, magnifico turning evil seemed kind of forced and came out of the blue. It just didn't make sense from what he was described to be. He didn't have enough backstory to warrant that kind of turn.
Its nice for Disney to try and get back to the tride and true formula for them and this was a step in the right direction, but its still is very lacking in the magic that made their older movies so much more enjoyable. Asha is yeah bland that whole advertising her being a latino and african mix was just more Disney baiting to get this very absent crowd of people to see this movie. Its the classic we are gonna make a character diverse and instead they are just an empty box that could have been any other character. The villian's motivation being simple greed is good. Though it seemed like he went from being reasonable to just pure bad without any kind of build up to that either. IDK. The music seems more just straight up pop instead of trying to adapt music from certain cultures which again made their older music more interesting. Seems like a very meh movie, but it seems like something kids would follow.
Going to have to disagree with you on the music. Maybe its personal preference but I do not like the Pop theme to the songs. I also really don't like the king's song, he is the villain and his song is so up beat and poppy and is filled with modern slang. The song feels AI generated.
I haven't seen Wish yet so i can only comment on what I've seen in the trailer. The biggest things for me are the adorkable MC which i don't mind, unless it's the ONLY MC I'm being given. It was fun with Rapunzel but now i feel like i know these characters already. There's nothing for me to learn about them, or how they'll handle their challenges. And while they're relatable in the sense of 'yes, I also have some weird quirks' that tends to be it. There's nothing as substantial as Mulan's struggle to measure up to her family's expectations, or Meg's independent to a fault nature, or Cinderella's sheer perseverance. And then there's the animation. I don't know... What they were going for. You CAN blend 3D and 2D in a number of ways. Anime does it a lot these days, delivering a product that's 2D in appearance but incorporates 3D for environments or complex creatures, and they turn out some very dynamic stuff. You can also do it in a far more stylized manner, creating almost like a storybook effect. But i don't think they had a specific style they were aiming for. It looks flat, especially the lighting, and there's a couple points in the trailer where the effects looked... Odd. It almost felt like there were missing frames, but only in the effects. I do want to see it, there are things that look fun, but I'm not expecting anything on par with old Disney. I do want them to get back there, though, one day..m
They want so desperately to have darker skin tones but the culture they protray always look European. I should be upset over thier cultural appropriation.
I can't get over how confusing this movie seems. Magnifico is clearly the good guy: everyone getting whatever they wanted would be an unparalleled horror. But he's the bad guy because, ew, cis-het white man. But the people saying he's the bad guy ARE HIM. How you described him is exactly how progressives are. But they think they're the generically brown generic girl who is the hero because she's trying to give everyone back their wishes but that would be a horrific disaster in real life... I just... I can't. Maybe the magic of Disney is just gone for me. I can wish upon a star and wish for the one I love to find me today, but I don't know about the rest of this anymore.
I "wish" that we could collaborate someday (genius 3333 I.Q. joke). No really, your channel is awesome and mine is good but tiny and about movies. This comment will be buried, but someday. Someday.
You make sure to tell anyone that says you are too negative that one of your viewers said this is the nicest (positive) review I've seen in my feed! I'm glad you liked it. I was gonna watch it with my 8yo. Thank you!
So it’s a good mediocre movie which you can play in the background during family gatherings and the holidays where everyone is talking to each other and not watching the movie? Well…neat.
I haven't seen the movie yet, so I won't say too much. But from what I have heard is that the antagonist was definitely the best character. The negative I have heard is that the central message was more like a defiant child disrespecting more knowledgeable authority figures. It was challenging the kings wisdom to know what's best for the nation and that just giving everybody what they want with no limits is dangerous. But again, I haven't seen it, so I will wait to chime in seriously.
Yeah, it was pretty murky. The king was definitely the best character because he actually had a story and motivation. Asha was just sort of there. As far as the wishes, I think there is a lot of confusion, because she wanted to give people their wish back *to pursue* but not grant it for everyone. It wasn’t made clear and then they kind of undid their own message at the end, it was a terrible choice. When you watch it, you’ll see what they *wanted* to say, but they fumbled it very badly.
this movie proves that disney has lost its good will with audience like not many went to see it and it won't break even judging by the 40 million weekend projection cuz if we let diseny go back where they were they might do thier identity politics thing again so its best to let them go bankrupt than let them basterdize more things we love and care about
I was hoping someone would explain the weird pseudo-2D-3D artstyle and animation. I feel like they were trying to recreate the old hand-drawn style in 3D, to which I say...why just do it in 2D to begin with? They didn't have to use painted cels and it's a lot easier to draw and animate in 2D than ever! Cuphead used traditional means. It was made by a handful of people and look at how good it turned out!
This movie was originally going to be entirely 2D, but they scrapped that idea due to “limitations”. I guess they settled on a mix of 2D and 3D instead.
It's kind of hilarious when you talk about Asha's afro-latino, non-cultural thing. Because she purposely has "woke" skin tone, but her character is essentially what the woke criticize as the blended white culture.
But... but... they all deserve to have whatever they want, just because they want it.
Wait so the citizens willingly joined the kingdom for a price and then rebelled when they didn't want to pay the price anymore?
To fair to them, the King Magnifico was acting like a paranoid, power-hoarding and overtly-controlling douche.
And to be fair most people do sign to thing without knowing really the price they pay for it…
@@lakshaykochhar6799and yet whats her name is stuck with the same fate and hell :/
@@eomirsangrelobo905ah yes the price of,… not remembering your wish but in turn get free shit for free and you don’t have to do a thing.
It's implied that they didn't fully understand the price. Giving up your wish is supposed to be like giving a piece of your soul away, that it changes you. And they also didn't know that the vast majority of people would never have their wish granted. To be fair, I think this should have been emphasized in the story more strongly.
Wow this has been by far one of the nicer reviews of this movie. lol
Understandable, they are in a very bad way.

Encanto did a 'good woman' well. Even if she was a little annoying she was believable.
@@wwpjd28 Exactly
Aparently the original premise was the origin of "when you wish apon a star", but "activist types" more or less hijacked the project.
Something tells me DIsney didn't mean to have a tale against central planning and fumbled the God metaphor.
Magnifico is the best character and you actually start rooting for him lmfao.
Meh, is interesting how he starti with someone a little understandable but half movie he just become crazy for the sake of it, and turns out just boring
Of course you do, people are actually happy the way things are then the girlboss comes along starts sht for the sake of girlbossing and everything goes to sht.

@@IAmTheEagleHTM Sympathetic Strawman is a term I will find a lot of use for in the future.
@@IAmTheEagleHTM John Walker counts but Soldier Boy wasn’t that sympathetic imo
WTF? You two sound like the culture obsessed version of a dungeons and dragons nerd 😂😂😂
i feel like you didn't delve into the other fundamental cog-diss-- that making a teenage girl the permanent....Vajtator (girl version of dictator?) and presumably in total, uncontested control of the realm (including magic?), for life, for no particular reason, is somehow the perfectly reasonable solution to all problems in life.
Greg, love your channel. Do you ever think about doing other family reviews like games? I'm in your target audience and struggle to find games appropriate for varied ages.
Oooooh, That’s an excellent idea! Especially flavoring it to include like only PSplus games or Game Pass games
This is a great idea
I'm not Greg but how about having a look at Karma Zoo? It's a online coop platform game where different animal and object team up to make it through levels.
If you don't mind something short, Octodad is a wholesome and funny game where you play as a perfectly normal human dad. :P
If you don't mind flashy explosions, Copy Kitty is a platformer game where you copy your opponents power and mix them. It's the gift that keep on giving.
Ultimate Chicken Horse is a multiplayer platformer game where you try to make to the end while preventing the other doing by putting obstacles to screw each others Quite funny. :D
But you'll probably want a second opinion from Greg *Wink wink nudge nudge*
Edit: if you have a Switch, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is pretty good and the end of the game is a fever dream and the stuff of legend, avoid spoilers if possible.
Wish was very okay - Shame I was the only one in the theater - I don't see this making much money back at the box office
1:31, that was actually a clever bit of foreshadowing given that later on Asha (inspired by her Grandfather) inspired the people with song to form a mob to overthrow Magnifico just like Magnifico said
If McDonalds served you 10 terrible Big Macs in a row….. would you buy an 11 th?
They are just saying that cause the actress is Afro-Latina. But this is a made of country and in Latin America they didn’t have princesses just the one that ruled them in Spain.
6:28, though the old Renaissance formula also says give the hero a romantic love interest and they didn’t do that here.
It's almost like people from back then had some kind of idea that women had some kind of inspirational effect on men.
An effect that a lot of gay men and feminists either don't understand, don't share, or don't appreciate... or sometimes even acknowledge.
@@Nyet-Zdyes Yeah
My deepest wish involves Lucy Liu. Don't think it will be ever granted. Especially now she's got that restraining order....
Pretty soon you can just AI deepfake anything you want
Download her onto a blank robot, like Fry did
Mine involves Asha from Disney's Wish and her mouth. If Magnifico grants it, she will not be a happy camper. All hail king Magnifico!
Miles morales was Afro-Latino but do we see a great character, or just an Afro-Latino guy first?
thanks greg, FINALLY disney actually made a family movie without pushing "THE MESSAAAAGEEE"... maybe is the first sign of coming back to normal
Well you can find “the message” in everything if you overanalyze enough.
I'm not sure what you mean, i saw the message everywhere in wish
😂😂 these comments are a whole spectrum. "No message" "maybe message" "totally message" 😂😂😂
They tried to copy puss and boots the last wish in terms of ground breaking animation. They weren't good at it
5:21, I know this is common knowledge at this point but I’m going to say it anyway. Disney has no idea what a Princess is.
I don’t understand the logic behind the premise of this film. Why are people giving their wishes away instead of working toward them? I guess you couldn’t work toward things like flying, invisibility, etc. but, in the real world, we get along just fine and can lead happy lives without those abilities.
Afro Latino? Everyone must be satisfied - maybe the next movie is Irish Mongolian?
This sounds like if Disney just told AI to come up with a generic Disney movie lol.
Satanism: The Movie
The villain is an analog for God the Father.
Uh oh 😳
Everything is alright... right? *RIGHT!?*
You will always have High School High starring Jon Lovitz
She's probably a half Berber slave from Spain's North African colonies.
Not going to see it cause I’m a single adult male but
Thanks for the review, I don't think Dlit will do well Disney has broken too much trust. Thanks again for a fair review.
They really have and a few years ago, I think this would have done great, but that’s Disney’s fault that the audience doesn’t trust them now
Did it feel like a love story could have been added? Most of the recent Disney movies have been completely absent of it as part of the unfortunate Her-o’s journey
Doesn't matter, Disney could shit out the best thing since Jurassic Park and I still wouldn't see it. Not after the last 7 years of insults and garbage they have pumped out. She Hulk was the last straw.
I wonder if they have forgotten Elana of Avalore. They probably cant do much with Sophia the 1st due to being too white but its worth investigating.
XD
I do not trust Disney content anymore.
Six kids to movies? Yikes.
Your 'but muh guns', 'the gubmint bad', and 'thats soshulism' politics are leaking through into an otherwise very informative review.
Even Puss in Boots Last Wish from Dreamworks more better than Disney , by story telling , concept of Wishing Star and a balls to giving a character that " I Don't give a sh_t nonsense , I'm Evil for the sake of evil "
Which Disney becoming lack their guts of it
Wish seems like a generic product to overboast Disneys overused tropes
Great review. I love hearing from the true critics-your family.
Going to have to disagree with you on the music. Maybe its personal preference but I do not like the Pop theme to the songs. I also really don't like the king's song, he is the villain and his song is so up beat and poppy and is filled with modern slang. The song feels AI generated.
I am surprised that you gave high mark for a movie, when you say feeling nothing towards main hero. To sounds as 6/10 at best.
Gonna be honest, this is the very first review who actually likes the music, wasn't expecting that, but that's pretty cool
Granting everyone's wish? That didn't fare so well in Wonder Woman 1984...
The original preview definitely looked like the villain was supposed to be God. I'm glad to hear from you and other reviewers that ins't the case.
I "wish" that we could collaborate someday (genius 3333 I.Q. joke). No really, your channel is awesome and mine is good but tiny and about movies. This comment will be buried, but someday. Someday.
you're the only person who has said the music is good.

I really don’t want to see this, I am trying to convince my kids to stay home and watch Leo on Netflix
They're trying to feed us member berries and distract from the fact that their films are terrible now
Despite being an attempt to go back to its renaissance roots, none of these songs felt like they came from that era.
I’m not sure if I want to see it. Just seems like a generic animated Disney movie.
this movie proves that disney has lost its good will with audience like not many went to see it and it won't break even judging by the 40 million weekend projection
cuz if we let diseny go back where they were they might do thier identity politics thing again so its best to let them go bankrupt than let them basterdize more things we love and care about
Dont be afraid to let us know if disney threatened you, i wont let them get away with it
Can’t wait to miss this fiasco of a movie.
Disney is so afraid to really commit to anything that’s not generic
Blame Paperman (2012) short film for this..
basically using cgi is easier (i thibk) and faster than doing traditional 2d so they probably want to save the time
This movie was originally going to be entirely 2D, but they scrapped that idea due to “limitations”. I guess they settled on a mix of 2D and 3D instead.
Nah the movie sucks, this is not a century in the making
