    Amani - I had a fat Brown take my rod while camping & fishing at Bowman Lake. Luckily I had my 12’ aluminum boat on the shore and was able to row in the area and found in crystal clear 10’ of ice cold water about 15yds off shore. Now this was a really nice new expensive Garcia rod & reel, so I was not about to give it up. So I undressed and jumped into the chilly water and swam out to the road - being a good swimmer and former lifeguard - I was able to battle the elements and grabbed my rod. Low and behold once I surfaced and got back to shore, that fat 5-LB trout was still on the line fighting. But I won and got my pole and fish !

      I can't believe I landed that thing. Somehow that 6lb leader that was frayed from top to bottom didn't break. I knew I had to end that fight real quick after that fish spent so much time swimming deep into the boulders. Hooking a fish and landing a fish on those boulders are two different things entirely. I know I'm right about securing rods because I've lost two rods to fish myself! It's an empty feeling!

      How I rig up is in two clips on my trout fishing tips playlist. "rigging up for reservoir trout" is one of them that goes into detail on how I rig up and then I have clips on there for the bait and hooks I use. I up my slip sinker to 1/2 OZ for lake Tahoe and then roll with 8lb test with a 6lb leader because the boulders shred 6lb line when the large trout rake you over them. I have a lot of Lake Tahoe clips on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist and I often go into what I was doing to catch fish. Keep at it!

      @@wildernesswithamani1027 Just got off the phone with an old college friend and he found your channel a year ago and is a big fan of yours. You've inspired us to get together on a fishing trip up there in your neck of the woods. Mark tells me he had success at Cave Rock so you might want to check that out.

    As thick and healthy as a trout gets! Great catch. Is the meat pinkish or clear? Thanks for all the vids.

      The meat on the big Tahoe rainbows is very similar looking to salmon. Dark reddish/pink and it cooks up pink. Excellent eating. I have a few clips on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist for Lake Tahoe where I show the filets. I have a bunch of clips for Lake Tahoe so I can't recall which ones off the top of my head.

      I surveyed all of the possible hazards that a fish might try to run into before I started fishing. I didn't expect a fish would try to swim into every single area I thought could be a problem!

    reels have drags set the drag so that a fish will take line and not your rod

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  2 года назад

      If your rod isn't secure your drag won't save you. That doesn't make sense. If it is a big enough trout your rod is gone.

      A lot of people use them out there. I didn't see the big schools in the rocks yet but they are coming. Judging by the contents of that fish's stomach, the crawdads appear to be out in the rocks in big numbers.
