I had no idea what to expect when I got down there. I wasn't crazy about the shallow water I started at inside the bay. From what I understand from viewers comments, the other side is better in terms of a wider range of depths and the back end seems deeper too. I guess that's why you got to scout it out like I did on this morning. I'll be back!
I had to fight to get this one. I can't believe my last minute scramble to that new spot payed off. A fishing clip with no fish is quite lame so I'm glad I got it!
I catch fish from shore quite often. I have the clips up on my lakes and reservoirs playlist to prove it. I think I've only been skunked 4 times in all of my attempts. A lot more content like this to come.
A.P. getting western on me! Favorite video so far! Rock on! Oxi moron brown PB!! That salmo trutta didn’t get the memo! Pray for rain brother! Pray for rain! Hey try some crickets for me too! Dan Brent
I hear that. As usual, I was surprised. That's why I assumed it was a rainbow. I have a few clips where I hit good sized browns on powerbait but it's more the exception than the rule. I have a couple clips where I hit Mackinaws/lake trout on that stuff too. All on my lakes and reservoirs playlist if you haven't seen it and care to seek that action out.
Love the Videos Amani, as someone esle who is also from this area, you give me lots of inperation and ideas of places to go fishing around here. Love the videos man, hopefully I can catch you on the lake one of these days!
That tiny hook was lodged just outside the corner of it's mouth so it was an easy release. For some reason, the size 18 treble hook on a lot of the larger fish I get is in that corner of the moth area. I am expecting to lose one at any moment! I nearly lost that one!
Right on. I was under that impression for most of my life until I tried it a couple years ago. The result has been a lot of really nice trout. I have a bunch of those clips on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist if you haven't seen any of it and are interested. Not being able to catch fish from the Lake Tahoe shore is a myth!
I am not sure. I haven't fished that area yet. In winter, I say look for at least 10 feet of water and give it a shot. I have some deeper areas in clips on my lakes and reservoirs playlist but the snow makes getting to some of it tough. I always recommend confirming regulations for yourself but it is my understanding that either State fishing license is good anywhere on the lake so the options are wide open.
I just got back from fishing the other side near the boat ramp. Hit a 21" rainbow at the last minute. Have to play until the clock runs out! Working on the clip now.
WOW that is a beauty!! All worth it trudging through that snow and on snowshoes! I wonder why you haven't hooked into more rainbows or even a hybrid brownbow?
I mostly get rainbows in most of my Lake Tahoe clips on my lakes and reservoir playlist. A couple Macs. I was wondering why I didn't get more browns! I definitely like getting the rainbows for both eating and fighting purposes.
I could be wrong but I don't think brownbows exist or if they do they are hatchery produced only. They don't naturally breed with eachother and they spawn at opposite times of year. Nice to see there's still thick snow up there. Been getting concerned about the Sierra snow pack with these excessively long lulls in the storms. We just got hit with snow and ice here in Texas. When it snows here even an inch or two everything shuts down can't even get McDonald's rn
@@bssaassin1900 There are tons of wild rainbow fisheries from here to Alaska. They may have been introduced early on, as brown trout were, but I see them spawning in backcountry creeks every year. I used to fish for the wild strain of rainbows in Big Bear lake every winter and Spring when I was living in SoCal for decades. They definitely spawn in the tributaries to Lake Tahoe. This is just what I know from experience. Haven't really done any deep dives into it.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 no I meant the brown rainbow hybrids the other guy was talking about. I know rainbows are native to california all the way to Alaska. In fact most of the world's introduced populations started from the McCloud river strain. I just never heard of brown bows. I'm not sure if they're even compatible to breed with eachother. I know they hybridize with cutthroats since they are closely related.
@@bssaassin1900 Right on. I saw that on my way out the door to work so I must have missed your point. I've never heard of brown/rainbow hybrids myself. Cutbows yes, brown-bows no!
I've considered it. In a month or so when the trout start hunting those crawdads and minnows in the rocks again that would probably work just fine. I was standing on a tall rock at chimney beach once looking at the water to see if anything was close to shore and I saw a trout that had to be better than 20" cruising by through the rocks fairly close to shore. My lines were out and too far for me to do anything so all I could do is watch it!
Amani love your Channel. I usually fish Mammoth lakes with my Family during summer. Plan on trying some new waters this year. What are some lakes you would recommend for the month of June? Thanks in advance!
June in the Eastern Sierra might have a lot of snow left this year but if you are looking for places to fish around there check out my 'Backcountry Lakes and creeks playlist'. I have a lot of targets on there up and down the Eastern Sierra. Most of those lakes are fairly short hikes and I feature the trailhead and hike for each lake I fish on my 'hiking and backpacking' playlist. I also have lakes you can drive to across the Eastern Sierra on my 'lakes and reservoir' playlist. Most of the fishing techniques you see me using I demonstrate the basics in clips on my 'trout fishing tips, playlist. If you have more questions about any of the videos please don't hesitate to ask in the comment section for that clip. I hope you catch a lot of fish when you are up there. Good luck!
I don't. I just layer up and use a system of gloves and jacket pockets for my hands. I have insulated waterproof boots with 2 layers of thick socks to keep my feet toasty.
I was fishing in only about 10 feet of water. My personal experience fishing in the Winter over the decades, once the lakes have turned over, is soaking bait is effective for consistently catching larger trout. It might be slow but when you get one, it's usually a good one. I guess it depends where you are. When I'm out in my boat I usually have the best luck when I pull ashore and bait fish. A nice nap is always good too. I hope to try a couple different spots before March hits.
I typically use the orange, green, yellow swirl stuff. Original or extra scent. I show a close up of it in a few of my Lake Tahoe clips on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist.
Amani you had some rough skunks and you put in work to get this one congrats dude! What time of day are you typically seeing the most success from the shore of Tahoe?
Lately, as the temps have really fallen, the fish are coming randomly at all times of day. When it warms up and there is more human activity on the lake, crack of dawn and early morning hours seem to be best but lately, time doesn't seem to factor in.
I parked in the large turnout before the gate to go into the campground (Coming from the direction of South Lake Tahoe). It's a haul to get to the water from there and you'll be traveling across some icy snow. The other side looks' like there is an access road that goes down to a boat ramp but I'm not sure that is public. I have never been over on that side. If it is and there is parking on the street, I hear its deeper over there and the access looks a lot easier. In any event, there is a fair distance to walk or snowshoe on either side.
Amani. Ill be heading to Tahoe next week. Where do recommend dunking my line that is fairly accessible, less than a 1/2 mile hike in? I will try my luck at Nevada Beach. Thoughts? Much appreciated.
This time of year, try to find anywhere with at least 10 feet of water. I have a bunch of clips from various areas around Tahoe on my lakes and reservoirs playlist. I always recommend confirming regulations for yourself but it is my understanding that either State fishing license is good anywhere on the Lake.
I notice that you always hike with a lot of tension on your spinning rods, so that the tips are very bent. Why do you do this? Not a criticism, just a question.
So the hooks don't come loose. I use heavier 1/2 OZ slip sinkers when I fish Lake Tahoe so the tension keeps them from swinging loose and everything getting all tangled up. My rods are small 5 foot Ugly Stiks so they are very limber and it doesn't take much to make them bend.
I was guessing that once I got down there. Looked a heck of a lot easier to get around over there since it was the sunny side with less slow. I just stopped driving at the first place I figured i could get down there. Live and learn!
Or for people who want to catch fish. I've got plenty of fly fishing and lure fishing on both of my rivers playlists and 'backcountry lakes and creeks' playlists. I'm just not an elitist who looks down on other styles of fishing. It's all fishing, just different. Fly fisherman sometimes see themselves as 'the Jedi knights' of fishing. As someone who does it all I find it amusing. Powerbait, fly fishing, lure fishing. the point is to just get out and have fun.
That fish was so huge! I mean.. it was a nice nice Brown.
the snowy hike..I can’t believe how hardcore you are.

I was scrambling to get something! Usually, when you make that last minute decision to charge to another spot it won't pay off. This time it did!
That’s how i am, i think if i stay ill eventually get a bite but then i won’t get a bite and wishing i moved spots! Haha
Is that Ca? Super nice Brown right where you would expect it to be! Fairwinds!
Yes it's the CA side. I need to fish the other side of the bay. I think it's deeper. I just had no idea where I was going!
Congrats on the brown!!!
That was a last minute score! I didn't really expect making the charge over to that other spot to pay off but I'll take it!
Huge Brown 🎣 very nice one
