My playlists in general are a good place to start for planning a trip in the area. The Lake will still be warm next month but there shouldn't be too much activity on the Water. At least not as much as now. All you can do is cast out and see.
I love your spirit bro! Great video! I have a question about your choice of lb test. I’m new to trout fishing and you’re one of the first people whom I’ve seen who uses 8lb main and 6lb for his leader. Have you found that there’s no difference with bite quantity when using a smaller pound test, like 2lb or 4lb?
I typically use 6 lb test all the way through but I started using 8lb test for Lake Tahoe because there are so many large boulders at a lot of the spots. I catch plenty of fish on 6lb test. That's basically all of the fish I catch on my channel. As far as I am concerned, 6lb is great as my standard line for rivers, reservoirs, and alpine lakes. If you haven't seen it, I have a trout fishing tips playlist that might help you if you are new to fishing. Good luck.
Hello I am going out to South Lake Tahoe this weekend for my 30th bday I’m new to lake fishing. Do you have any easy to access fishing spots near South Lake Tahoe ?
I would say hit Cave Rock State Park and fish off the rocks towards the entrance because it's deeper there. Either state license is good on Lake Tahoe so you should be good to go but you can confirm this on the Nevada fish and wildlife regulation guide available online. If you go to my fishing tips playlist, my clip rigging up for reservoir trout shows how I rig up. For Lake Tahoe, I shorten my leaders a bit and move up to a half OZ slip sinker for farther casting casting. Good luck!
GREAT videos from Tahoe, Amani. I am there in the Summer in North Lake Tahoe, and sometimes West Shore. But have never fished Tahoe for trout in colder weather. My daughter and I would love to find a good trout spot someplace like this on a nice clear winter/spring day. So this spot is just a few miles south of Tahoe City off 89, the West Shore? By the way, highly recommend a visit to Sugar Pine State Park. Probably will be good fishing in cool weather off the point at Sugar Pine. Water there looks very similar to your spot, also just rocks on the bottom, moderately deep. I swim around there in the summer...no sign of large fish near shore...
Funny you should bring up Sugar Pine State Park. I was planning to call tomorrow to see if it was open! I just saw it on the map and it looks like it's worth a look. The spot in this clip will be crawling with people as soon as it warms up a little. If you and your daughter don't want to freeze, the fishing will probably be better late February into March. You want to get out there while it's still cold and there aren't tons of people and boats all over. Cave Rock state Park on the Nevada side has easy access and that area seems to have nice fish. Too much ice on the rocks now. Either state license is good on Lake Tahoe. Good luck!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 thanks Amani. Will maybe try in March on a nice day. Have seen all those people and boats in the summer. I am about an hour from there. Thanks for the Cave Rock tip, I don't get over to Nevada enough. And BTW, that fish was the most silvery rainbow I have ever seen. I did happen to land one of that size at Donner this summer(from shore believe it or not), but it had much more color in the summer..
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Thanks. Cannot wait to see your Donner video soon. Big snow coming next week however. My wife, daughter and I were SHOCKED to see the hit from that 17 inch veteran rainbow at Donner last summer, from the railings right next to the Boat Launch, in mid August no less! It was pretty cold that morning, and somehow it drew that big boy to about 15 feet depth, easy distance from a big spinning cast, probably green Powerbait, single barb. I am sure that is much more common in the off seasons.
@@Arturo-sm1tb That's a nice fish in August. I fish near that public boat ramp as well. Mostly because it's super easy to get to and access! Been there twice. I'm going to get back there soon. Thinking about Tahoe again as well. A lot of snow coming though!
Check out my clip "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout". That shows you exactly how I fish for trout when I'm using bait in cold weather for my channel. I also have a clip explaining why cold weather trout fishing gets hot. I use the original scent powerbait that is the yellow/orange/green swirl. I use a size 18 treble hook and try to keep the bait as small as possible while still fully concealing the hook. In Lake Tahoe, where ever you are you'll need to cast far. Shorten the leader to around 3 feet and up your slip sinker to 1/2 OZ. In most other instances, I use a size 1/8 OZ slip sinker or smaller depending on the situation. I recommend carrying a few sizes of sinkers. I have a clip on the knot I use and and a few other "how to" clips on other trout fishing methods. Let me know in the comment section if you have any further questions. Check out some of these clips and you'll be catching trout! Good luck.
Anywhere you can find public access and there is at least 15 feet of water. Be ready to cast far depending on the situation. Everywhere I have tried I have a clip for. Good luck.
I typically use the original scent yellow, green, orange swirl. Sometimes I get the stuff that claims to be 42% stronger. I use it on a tiny size 18 treble hook. I believe the small bait induces larger fish to bite but I have no science to back that up..
The first 2 videos for Lake Tahoe I have up were shot in June so fish can be caught! In July, I am usually hiking into the back country to fish. Look for at least 15' of water and be prepared to cast far. It is my understanding that both State licenses are accepted anywhere on Lake Tahoe but I always encourage viewers to confirm regulations for themselves using official sources. If you go to my playlists, I have a lot of options in this area for fishing that might also interest you. Good luck!
Going to Lake Tahoe for the fist time next month. Do you have any recommendations on where to fish on the south side off shore. All the “pros” websites say you can’t catch off the shore. I saw differently in your video.
It's going to be a zoo this time of year but Emerald Bay and the point out in front have been good to me. I go when the campgrounds aren't open and it's cold so I don't know what you could expect out there now. Maybe follow the rim trail out past the boat camp out of the bay and onto the main lake. All of the stuff I have up on the Nevada side is solid. It is my understanding that either state license is good on the lake but please confirm that for yourself before heading out. I don't feel comfortable passing on regulations. I have a bunch of clips up for the 'Lake on my lakes and reservoirs' playlist so I would say go to the deep water spots this time of year. How I rig up can be found on my 'trout fishing tips' playlist. I fish it with my general reservoir rig but I use 8'lb mono with a six pound leader to protect against getting sawed off on the boulders. I expect there to be a lot of activity on the lake and warmer water when you go so I recommend you get out there at the crack of dawn before the noise levels under water start peaking. Good luck.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 great practical advise. Thank you! I’m going to look at more of your videos. You’re right about getting there early and looking for deeper waters. Also need to look into your rig setup. We always fish Bishop area, not sure how different it will be, thanks for for the tips.
Am I the only one disappointed! I was looking forward to "no catch & cook" turkey spam recipe. Too funny...I've had a few trips where if I didn't catch, I didn't eat. For some reason, this always brought me luck. Never had to eat the expired cliff bars in my backpack.
I've been really hungry fishing before where expired Cliff Bars would be a welcomed luxury! Especially when I do something really stupid like forget my lunch in the fridge! Doesn't happen often but it has happened! I think I'm maxed out on the three cooking clips I have up. Lemon pepper trout, grilling trout on a fire, and baking trout. I'm no chef to say the least! If I were to get a recipe somewhere else just to make a clip, it won't be authentic. I'm not looking to push that on my viewers. What you see on this channel is simply the real me, bumbling and stumbling at times! Full disclosure, I did the baking trout clip to make a crappy day of fishing, where I got just one small trout, a little more interesting! This is not the channel for really good trout recipes. If you keep watching, there will be a lot more fishing and hiking to be sure. Thanks for tuning in.
There's a chance of that. I've meant to do it a few times but when it comes time to leave I just blow it off and head home! I always have things I want to do for my channel on nearly every trip that never happen. Being too tired is nearly undefeated in my universe!
hey man i have a question im going to tahoe in a couple weeks and i was wondering what pound test i should come with and what power bait i should use or should i bring some lures
Some people use lures and do Ok. That's what a few people have told me. On my lakes and reservoirs playlist, I have a clip I put up about a week ago from below Logan Shoals vista point where I show a close up of my powerbait and discuss the adjustments I make for Tahoe. My basic set up is on my clip "rigging up for reservoir trout' on my fishing tips playlist. I have multiple Lake Tahoe Clips if you think they might help. I fish a lot of spots. Good luck.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the clip. You have to do the Grandpa duties. I'll play the role of the irresponsible dude who blows everything off to go fishing! It's a little slow this time of year. Either way, I hope you get a chance to get out there soon and wet a line. It nourishes the soul!
I really like the area between Cave Rock State Park and Chimney Beach on the Nevada side. There are a lot of rocks to deal with in those spots so ice is a factor right now. This spot off the 89 is easy to fish. You can fish anywhere on the lake with either a Nevada or California fishing License from what I understand. I always recommend double checking regulations for yourself. For the 6 clips I have up, I have tried 5 different spots in completely different areas of the lake and have caught fish every time. My experience has shown me that if you can find a spot with public access and at least 10' of water you have a good shot. Be prepared to cast out far. I use half OZ slip sinkers to give me more range. Shorten my leaders a bit as well. If you want to see how I rig up, check out my clip "My general technique for deep water reservoir trout" if you haven't watched it already.
This is off of HWY 89 a couple of miles after it begins to follow the lake but this time of year every inch of it will be covered by sunbathers and swimmers. Confirm all regulations for yourself but it is my understanding that either State license is good on the lake. Lake Tahoe is under the special regulation section of both State guides easily obtained online. You can only use 2 rods at once in California if you have the 2nd rod designation on your license though. Generally speaking, find a spot with public access and at least 20 feet of water and cast out. That's what I do. During the cold months where lows consistently hang below freezing, at least 10 feet of water seems to do fine. These desired depths are general of course. That's just what I look for.
Just vacationed south lake Tahoe asked locals for best spots most replied they don't give that info to tourists best advice was just get out there find a spot, looked for spots you fished couldn't find any 😂, didn't catch any
I have a lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist where I fish all over the lake. It is my understanding that both State Licenses are good anywhere on the lake but please confirm that for yourself. Both regulation guides are available online and Tahoe is listed in the special regulation charts in both. For the California fish and wildlife guide it's under the license section. For Lake Tahoe, once it gets cold, find at least 10-15' of water with public access and give it a shot. I have nearly 40 videos on my lake Tahoe fishing playlist and most of that was me just driving around until I saw something that looked good. Give it another shot!
I'm not sure about Cutthroats. Lahontan Cutthroats are the original indigenous trout species in the lake but I don't think there are a lot of them in there if any. I really am not the one to answer that question. I have never heard of Dolly Varden Trout being in Lake Tahoe or the Sierra Nevada in general. I'm not sure about that one either.
Thanks. If you can make it to the water's edge, make what ever you got work! A slightly larger rod would probably be good for Lake Tahoe. In many of my other clips, I am holding those tiny rods over my head trying to keep the fish from swimming into the boulders! I typically fish with light 5' Ugly Stiks. I love fighting larger trout on light tackle. I was battling some nice trout in the Truckee on one this morning. I recently put the clip up. I have info on how I rig up for lakes and reservoirs and how I avoid snags in those giant boulders on my fishing tips playlist if you are curious. For Lake Tahoe, I up the slip sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as necessary to allow for farther casting. Thanks for checking out the clip.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 What would you say the closet bass fishing that can be considered reliable near Reno? Thanks for the reply and all the info. I'm moving back to the area
Yeah, if you see me fishing a lake on my lakes and reservoirs playlist it's when the lows are regularly below freezing and the lakes are cold. I have a bunch of Lake Tahoe Clips. I fish as long as the lakes are cold from the melted snow in the Spring and then I start hitting the backcountry. You can find how I usually rig up for this type of fishing in a couple of clips on my fishing tips playlist if you haven't seen them and are interested. My clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" should do it. Thanks for tuning in.
That is an unnamed beach off the 89 about 3 miles from where the 89 starts following the shoreline. I basically drive around until I see an area with public access and give it a shot. Sugar Pine Park is on my radar. I have had luck everywhere I've tried so far. I've fished it 6 times and I have clips up for all of the spots so you can get an idea of where I've tried to fish. In one clip, I simply pulled off at a vista point, hiked down to the lake, and hit a nice trout. You can fish anywhere on the Lake with either a Nevada or California license so you can explore. Find a spot with public access and at least 10' of water and cast out. The side in Nevada where Cave Rock and Chimney beach were especially nice for numbers of fish and size. Chimney Beach was tough off the rocks but I think that's the first place I hit once the ice on the rocks is gone. The one thing that was common in every spot I've fished is that I needed to cast far out. I use small 5' rods but I upped my slip sinkers to 1/2 OZ to give me better range and bumped up my mono from 6lb to 8lb because when there are rocks, the big trout swim right into them! Shortened the leader on my full crawler as well for better distance. If you want to see exactly how I rig up, check out my clip "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout". Keep pounding it. The fish are out there. Good Luck.
This is a couple miles down the road from where the 89 starts following the lake. Tough spot to secure your rod because of the large pebble beach but I get fish there.
On my fishing tips playlist I have a clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" that shows in detail my basic set up. For Lake Tahoe specifically I up my slip sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as needed for farther casting capability. I have more Lake Tahoe content on my 'Lakes and reservoirs' playlist if you haven't seen it and are interested. The spot in this clip is probably mobbed with swimmers now but I have several other ideas in my clips. I always recommend verifying regulations for yourself but it is my understanding that either state license is good anywhere on the lake so all of the areas I feature are viable. My advice, find any spot with public access and at least 15 feet of water and get out there at the crack of dawn! Thanks for tuning in. Good luck if you go!
i enjoy watching all your videos! i know you follow regulations but wanted to make it aware that the etiquette in the area is to release all fish caught in rivers or streams. enjoy the laker rainbow yum! cheers see you out there!
I fish a wide range of the Sierra Nevada Range, follow regulations, and feel I have a sound personal trout fishing etiquette. I always say, to each his own as long as you don't litter and follow the law.
I've dealt with those types at lakes, surf spots, rivers, etc. They have no right to stop anyone from enjoying public land and I won't be turned away quietly in that sort of scenario. I say go where you want to if it's not private property and you're within your constitutional rights. Thanks for checking out the clip. I have a lot more like it on my Lakes and reservoirs playlist if you haven't seen them yet and are interested. Thanks for tuning in.
Off HWY 89 about 2 miles down the road from where it starts following the lake shore. I fish a bunch of different spots on my Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist but I always say shoot for an area with public access and at least 20 feet of water and give it a shot. During the colder months I look for anything with at least 10 feet of water.
Cooking isn't my thing. I have a few cooking clips up. Sweet lemon pepper trout, grilling trout on a fire, and baking trout. The baking trout was mostly to make a crappy day of fishing more exciting! I'll fry those filets tonight in a pan of margarine with basic seasoning. Add lemon and rice, done!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 is it because you are too cheap to buy food? Please explain. Just because the rules say you can kill wild trout out of Lake Tahoe doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to. Kill hatchery rats all day long not the wild ones. Lame.
First of all, thanks for keeping the language clean because it allows me to keep your comments up. I try to keep things family friendly. I'm not too cheap to buy food! I can afford food! It's an ongoing joke where I poke fun at myself for going fishing instead of taking care of things like shopping for the week. I keep and eat fish every winter just like millions of Americans legally do. I hold a valid license to fish in both Nevada and California and I follow the Law. If you have a reason, other than your opinion, to think I'm doing something wrong then report it to the department of Fish and Wildlife and have them review my channel. My guess, many of them would like my channel because I do practice quite a bit of catch and release and discuss special regulations when it applies so people who learn about those waters through my channel will know. I feel sorry for the Charter boats that take people out on the lake for money to catch and keep fish all year round If you are waiting on the docks when they pull in. We are going to have to agree to disagree. I can't adhere to the unofficial rules projected on myself by those who are the type to believe everyone should live and believe as they do. @@wildernesswithamani1027 at the end of the day it’s just my opinion. Slicing off your hand to eat it nots a good idea. 🤦. Like I said all Tahoe trout are wild not stocked. It’s a choice for you to make if u wanna kill them. It’s like being able to kill a wild steelhead in Oregon....just because your allowed to doesn’t mean you should. The other thing is you are blowing up all the spots with your videos. This definitely leads to more crowded fishing. I’ve seen it happen in Alaska California Florida and Cape Cod. Awesome video bro! Your a great fisherman. You know its a good one, when it takes you half the video to land it!
Right on. I live for battles like that! Thanks for checking out the clip. I'll be hitting Lake Tahoe a couple more times this Spring before the crazy crowds show up. Then it's into the high country! There will be a lot more content to come. You can count on it!

@Micah Ira definitely, have been watching on instaflixxer for years myself =)
I’m going to Lake Tahoe next month and I was wondering what bait or lures you would recommend using? Nice fish btw man 👏
I have all of the details of the bait I use, how I rig up, hooks, etc on my fishing tips playlist. I also have a Lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist where I fish all around the lake.
Good luck.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Wow man, cool to hear! I’ll check out your tips. Thanks for responding!
@@Arturo-sm1tb Nice catch at Donner. I will be hitting Donner soon. Yeah, Cave rock is sold and a CA license should be OK. Good luck.
Please explain what kind of set up for rainbow trout setup fishing with powerbait
Good luck.
Going up to Lake Tahoe for a couple of days.looking to fish along the banks on the west side. Any spots I should try?
Anywhere you can find public access and there is at least 15 feet of water. Be ready to cast far depending on the situation. Everywhere I have tried I have a clip for. Good luck.
I will add that I scouted out Sugar Pine Point and Kings Beach state parks and all I found was really shallow water.
What is your favorite powerbait dough color
orange/yellow/green swirl. Original scent.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Rainbow right?
again, another great video. What's you favorite powerbait flavor for Lake Tahoe?
I typically use the original scent yellow, green, orange swirl. Sometimes I get the stuff that claims to be 42% stronger. I use it on a tiny size 18 treble hook. I believe the small bait induces larger fish to bite but I have no science to back that up..
How is the fishing in June into July. Out at Lake Tahoe.
Love spam! That’s a nice trout!
Hey, it's protein and easy to prepare!
Would like to see a video of how you fillet your trout.
Good luck.

Thanks for getting me out this weekend, had grandpa duties. Yay no turkey spam...Nice hook set beautiful bow.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the clip. You have to do the Grandpa duties. I'll play the role of the irresponsible dude who blows everything off to go fishing! It's a little slow this time of year. Either way, I hope you get a chance to get out there soon and wet a line. It nourishes the soul!
@@wildernesswithamani1027 Yeah for sure, will be heading out Thursday somewhere???
Any place you recommend fishing at tahoe? I have yet to fish it, i only began fishing this year in March and I'm addicted! Wooo
@@wildernesswithamani1027 thanks man I can't wait to give it a go!🤙🏼
If you wouldn’t mind me get give me the location of this area. I’m going to visit on vacation. I’d like to know where is this location
@@wildernesswithamani1027 thanks for reply will watch some of them
Is there. cutthroat trout or Dolly Vardens in Tahoe lake ?
I'm not sure about Cutthroats. Lahontan Cutthroats are the original indigenous trout species in the lake but I don't think there are a lot of them in there if any. I really am not the one to answer that question. I have never heard of Dolly Varden Trout being in Lake Tahoe or the Sierra Nevada in general. I'm not sure about that one either.
Love your energy! Are you using an ultralight rod? I currently had a medium rod, will that work?

Winter?
Yeah, if you see me fishing a lake on my lakes and reservoirs playlist it's when the lows are regularly below freezing and the lakes are cold. I have a bunch of Lake Tahoe Clips. I fish as long as the lakes are cold from the melted snow in the Spring and then I start hitting the backcountry. You can find how I usually rig up for this type of fishing in a couple of clips on my fishing tips playlist if you haven't seen them and are interested. My clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" should do it. Thanks for tuning in.
What beach is that? I’ve been hitting Tahoe every week almost and nothing. 😂
Good Luck.
What you use for bait?
How I rig up, hooks I use, bait, etc can be found on my fishing tips playlist. Easily accessed on my channel homepage if you are at a computer.
Where in Lake Tahoe are you fishing here?
This is a couple miles down the road from where the 89 starts following the lake. Tough spot to secure your rod because of the large pebble beach but I get fish there.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🐟🍽
Right on.
No snow is bad.
Snow isn't bad if you like to use water and fish! Snow falling certainly doesn't scare me away from a day of fishing!
What kinda rig setup ?

Your channel should be called killing Fish in the Tahoe basin with Amani.
I follow the law. Also release way more fish than I keep each year. To each his own.
Thanks for watching and keeping the language clean. It's clear you are not into my act.
There are things we just don’t tell the masses.
@@johnriina4281 Right on. I respect your point of view. There are regulations in place to protect Wild Populations of fish while spawning.
