I have a similar life style in the Philippines, but I have lesser expenses than you! I’m glad you like living in my home country. I’ve lived in eastern U.S for 55 years, I love it here, but life in Cebu is better. Thank you for appreciating the Filipino lifestyle.
Women's retirement are way simpler than men's especially single men's. My goodness what will you be doing with all your money if you have less expenses than him. 55 years in US is huge money. The house alone practically tripled in value. I suggest you eat all the food in expensive restaurants now and spend the money down so you don't give them indirectly to people who will squander them. You earned them.
Can you briefly describe why life might be better in Cebu vs Manila per se. I am thinking about retiring there less than Five Years from now, most likely going there a divorcee, also i am using the Asawa's acct here lol, Korean guy writing this...
I live in Bacolod, my expenses are much lower but I can get my daily macadamia nut cookie at Starbucks, for the phone I pay 400 pesos a month for unlimited data, for the most part I use 2 electric fans unless it's really warm then I'll use the ac for 4 hours then use the fans, food including eating out $200, I often eat at home to lower my salt intake, haven't done any travelling, hate the new protocols, I often use public transport as I'm in no hurry to go from point a to b. I eat a big meal for lunch but dinner can just be a sandwich or a blizzard at DQ.
It cost me $4000-$5000 to live basic life is Southern California and the female population here sucks so that does not include dating. Can not wait for Thailand to open up and enjoy life again.
I lived in Jomtien in 2019, a 5 minute baht bus ride to Pattaya but MUCH better beach rentals and prices! 900 meters to the beach, huge pool, cable TV, wifi.. $220 usd a month. Fresh street Thai food $1.70.. great weather, $9 one hour body massage, smiling faces, 10 baht (33 cents) bus rides, and I walked the beach boardwalk daily for free. My Navy pension is $2500 a month.. I spent $1500, had fun and saved $1000.. but I DON'T drink alcohol, so give yourself $300 for beer money if you drink. But with all the extra costs and quarantine, I'm in Mexico City "NO restrictions" until November. Curtis from San Diego
You can go to Thailand now, just have arrange a visa in advance, have a negative COVID test no more than 72 hours before departure and do 14-day quarantine in a state-approved hotel once you arrive. Need travel / medical insurance too. So, not good for those wanting to just do a short vacation
@Robert Farrell, I also live in Southern California. If you were making $40K - $50K per month dating young pretty women would be fairly easy. Owner of the company I worker for made around $40K per month living in Newport Beach. He is a FAT (335 lbs) 55 yr old and dating thin good looking 20ish girls. So I'm moving to the Philippines and hope my my $2K per month retirement income will attract a nice younger women. LOL
Just watched this video and I totally understand what you’re saying about your budget for you and how you want to live. I have watched several videos on monthly budgets and I feel they all share some great insights and honestly it really boils down to how you have and how you want to live. If I get to make my way down there in a couple of years, which I hope to, everyone sharing there budgets and how they do things is a great help. I’m really going to have a lot of research to do, I want to be prepared. Thank you for sharing your budget.
Well it is your life and you can afford it so I got you on that. Thank you for the video it is very informative. I am a few months away from retiring and I am ready to start my new life.
I am already semi retired and enjoy working part time. I’m considering full time retirement in either Thailand or the Philippines after the Pandemic, not before. I have a feeling the Pandemic and related travel restrictions are going to be with us for a least another year or two (but I hope I am wrong)
Thanks for the breakdown Gio, that’s a enviable lifestyle for the money. Batchelor life in the Philippines would suit me just fine now, and a condo with a pool is ideal for dating. Enjoy it while it lasts buddy, I envy you a lot.
Hello Gio and I agree with your monthly expense report analysis. If anyone spends about $1500 per month, dont come at all making ONLY that amount. ALWAYS make sure you have ENOUGH money over that amount to keep and for any emergency along your way. Plus the fact that I'm sure too many expats UNDERESTIMATE their cost of living because they think that they don't need this or that or don't do this or that! Great review and best wishes until the next video!
I live under $500 a month and still live like a king, the maid costs me 4,000 pesos a month, zero for rent, zero for visa, I use public transport, often eat at home to save on cost, I can still get my daily macadamia nut cookie at Starbucks, my brunch is a fruit-veggie shake, a big meal for lunch then a sandwich for dinner, cost of living in the province is cheaper.
Agreed. Going to Philippines thinking $600/month with no medical insurance and nothing for emergencies will afford living like a king is delusional and irresponsible. This is for an expat without family who can support them whilst in the Philippines. If a Filipino retiree runs out of funds, they can always work again or rely on family for some support. Whereas the expat does not.
Nice work. Thank you for the time and effort. No need to justify your costs. It's about your quality if life. While I understand it's relative, like you, I always enjoyed an upward and higher quality. Life's too short. Stay well.
Thanks for that detail monthly expense vlog; yes, anybody can spend less or more but if you're perfectly happy with what you're doing now, keep doing it! Stay safe, Gio!
Hi Gio, I lived in Cebu IT park Calyx for over a year. I kept a budget just from my credit cards and bank ATM statements. I was dead on your average during the pandemic. I was $2000 average before covid. The difference was I went out a lot more when I could. I will hit bars or clubs once in a while and just enjoy life. I don't budget, I just keep track every few months from bank records. Life is more fun when you don't have a budget. Also, I was almost always with a gf and paying for her. I can't wait to get back there.
That's really good that is the kind of lifestyle I plan on living. I don't like having a budget either so I planned for $3,000-$5,000 a month. But it sounds like I can keep it way under 3,000 and still do everything I want.
I was a but surprised by your costs per month. I don’t go to Starbucks every day and I can eat much cheaper at a nearby small restaurant. My apartment was in a high rise and had all the amenities needed for myself. I didn’t pay for parking my electric bike under the building which has charges for 2 Chinese dollars. I realize you work so I understand. I go to the supermarket, the barber and the Mall where I went to Pizzahut! I think it’s fine but in China you can’t work past 60 years old which I have been doing. I respect your lifestyle but I now speak Chinese and have so many Chinese friends to do things with. But, I’m still considering coming to the Philippines. Thanks for your video. In China you pay on an average 6,000 rmb every three months which is about $1,000 US Dollars. They have cheaper apartments as well as I’m sure in the Philippines. Not to sound like I’m complaining as I have always worked in China. So I never touched my money back home in my American bank. But, I joined your RUclips site as you explained it honestly and I appreciate it. The problem with China the government is so very strict unless you have a business here or are married to a Chinese woman. Sadly, most Chinese women are always concerned about your money. I see not so in the Philippines. Thanks again! 再见👋
I'm curious what kinds of jobs can one do in the Philippines while getting paid U.S. dollars? I bet it's mostly computer related since it can be done remotely?
This is great! I plan on visiting the Cebu City area in October. I eventually want to move there. We have similar expenses, so this was very valuable information for me. Like you, I always allot more money than what seems reasonable on paper because I'm a human being, not a robot. Besides, I'd rather budget more than what I need than not budget enough. This was a a very transparent video! Thank you for sharing this.👍
Great video Gio. Very informative and detailed. Great place for people to start if they want to try to live in the Philippines. Location and lifestyles will definitely be an influencing factor but you have given a lot of explanation on those factors.
Nice job. So often we have to FFWD through the obligatory "everyone is different" lecture. I think we all know that. Giving hard numbers in a concise manner is preferred. The "expectations of local girls" on a date was also insightful. Well done.
Hey Gio my friend, That is my plan. I definitely plan on renting a condo in either Mactan Newtown, or IT Park. My fiancée will be joining me there as well. I have budget will be roughly 4000 per month. But that's just a rough estimate. Once I'm there, I can always adjust. And I already have traveler's / medical insurance. Thank you Gio my dear friend for sharing this awesome video. Please stay safe and healthy, and God bless you always.😊 😊 😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Nice video ! Like you said - rent is cheap because no tourists during pandemic, health insurance is cheap because you are under 50, cost of buying/renting the bike itself is not included, some people probably eat 3-4 times a day or bigger meals. So, if I try to adjust your budget for a 66 y/o retiree after borders reopen, I think 2K USD per month on a tourist visa. With SRRV , there is a big deposit to make, so budget will grow accordingly. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Mactan Newtown is like living on the moon. Units are really nice and quiet but distant from city. It’s like living in a remote part of Houston or the outer edge of Brooklyn NY out towards Long Island.
I lived on the far side of Brooklyn. sheepshead bay, and wished I stayed in Park Slope for the food and events. Where Gio lives, from his video's, there appears to be a lot to do that I am interested in. Still a lot of younger people do active stuff where Gio is.
I recently re-discovered your channel, because I didn't have notifications on. Glad to have you back! It's weird that you "only" have 35k subs, your content is great! I am thinking your views are from people not subscribing, which is sad. Thinking of joining your patreon. :-)
Nice options there. Thinking about Cebu as the retirement location a few years out though. Any issues riding your motorbike in town, vs driving a car? I remember the traffic in Cebu, not as bad as Manilla, but still pretty crazy.
Thank You so much Gio. If I moved to PI, this is how I wish to live (I'm not prepared to give up all of my Western comforts and conveniences). Very interesting and informative. I look forward to checking out your other videos.
Yeah to give up western comforts , need to think a million times because if you want to maintain western average standard living , being a Filipina long time living in the western , it’s much much more expensive to live in the Philippines .
Gio, Military veteran brother. You made my day with this video. This was on point as a single man perspective. I am glad you max out on all your expenses as examples. Oh yes, we know each individual would be different. Pretty much, if I was there. I am at least 90 percent concurrent on that budget you gave. So, I would do exactly as you advised. Your maximum expenses is within my budget for the future when I do decide to move to the Philippines and retire. All those haters, complaining about your numbers most have never lived in the Philippines like you and I. Time to share this video to the world. Thanks again Gio for your intelligence. By the way. I do that too. Sit in place by myself and people watch. Since Philippines have lots of outdoor restaurants, I would never get tire of that. Ordering food, drinking a monster energy drink (I hope they have that?). Watch all the pretty views. From US American Air Force Military Veteran and former US Military in the Philippines.
I think that’s great but I don’t get a pension worth $5,000 a month and I was in the military. But, I was able to sustain myself working at several schools and universities which supplemented my income. I actually don’t know many Americans getting that a month. Maybe I live in the wrong neighborhood. I am Not bitter or jealous and respect your lifestyle; but I’m more realistic to my needs and those expenditures I don’t need every day. I think that’s great! Again another fine video. I’m looking at the countryside to live and be near a city. I’ve been a foreign teacher in China many years but I use to work in another field. Great perspective for me to think on and decide. However, I saw they had a veteran’s hospital if I’m correct in Cebu City which is great as I get free medical all my life which is what I have been doing and using when I go visit the States except for small medical emergencies then I go to the Chinese hospital where I get free medical from my job.
Yes I prefer apartment living with amenities and security and having everything close by to each their own and everyone is different when it comes to type of lifestyle they prefer and are use to
Thanks Gio,, I have a budget of $2,000 AUD a month when I finally get to the Phillipines, so you’re monthly budget is pretty close to what I have allowed 😀👍… Thanks for sharing… Rob from Melbourne Australia…
Just allow a little extra for the unexpected, Visa extensions, trips and hotels away from the home base, possible hospital visit, if you drink, if you meet girls in bars who are drinking, weekly STD meds, etc hehe. Living a good life for me is $2400 AUD. His video is during a pandemic with lots of BS rules and I'm sure he would agree it goes up during normal times as my pandemic budget was the same as his.
I live in Los Angeles California and rents and housing are so expensive I am probably going to leave in a few years. Looking at KL or Penang, Malaysia. Thank you for this video and it's content. It great to hear other Americans living in other places that have a good quality of life and affordable.
Thank you very much for showing your budget. I think it is very reasonable what you pay each month . I am retired . I have a steady income of $3000 a month ..if they ever drop the restrictions there, I will be there ..
I find your figures very reasonable for "non-extravagant" low-key Western style Living in a major city. I am looking at $2,000 a month minimum, mostly a rent based on $700.00. My health insurance would be MUCH more -- I am much older than you. I prefer a rental house to condo because they are less expensive and much more space. However, condos have advantages.
I was always told to rent month to month outside of the USA bc as we all saw, a country will kick an expat out of their country with the quickness during the pandemic. Now if you owned property you would be screwed like so many expats have been bc of these reasons. Rent my fam, you can come & go as you please & change locations with little friction. Anyway be well & I wish you the best in paradise.
Thanks for posting this, from all the other videos I see (thanks all you guys for posting), your situation is more like I'd like. I guess from looking at other videos, I thought that condos like the one you post about were non-existent. I'm thinking to visit the Philippines for and option to live at least part of my retirement. To me, $1500 to $1600 per month for a comfortable life style seems pretty reasonable considering how nice your place appears to be.
Thanks for sharing your expenses, and I can see the advantages for sure. As a guy who is thinking about the Philippines, Cebu and the surrounding areas is really attractive. Two things come to mind from your video. One, are there suburbs around the area that you could save a little on rent but still be close to the city and take advantage of the lifestyle. Two, at some point in 22 and beyond, the rents in this area are going to go back up to pre-pandemic prices and then continue to rise as they were before the pandemic.
Thanks---I will do something similar with more travel---have traveled around SE Asia a bit but I am not decided on a homebase. The Mactan area looks like it has a lot to offer.
Are there decent apartments there for $200-$250 in Cebu area, and does security screen your guests at your condo? Also most of that travel insurance just reimburses the insured. A person has to ask for a direct pay policy to the hospitals to avoid having to pay the medical bills upfront.
There are decent apartments for that range but nothing I personally feel comfortable in but I am sure if you looked hard enough you could find a hidden gem.
Brother you can definitely do it too! I am living similar as Gio. Great life and once your here, you are basically a top commodity for the woman. I am also from Florida brother but now living in Philippines
My dad and I live in a senior park we paid $12,000 for a real nice mobile 3 years ago today with all the people moving in its probably worth about 30k and our rent is $650.00 trash, sewer, water and lawn service, electric average $150.00 a month but I'm diabetic with heart and kidney issues that is what's keeping me here although I'm going to look in to the medical info that he talked about, but Florida can be really cheap place to live to
@@dave1101 This guy lives in a Condo with a pool. You live in a Mobile home which might be nicer but you have to evacuate during Hurricane Season. Not to mention there is no way you can entertain yourself on his budget or date on his budget in Florida.
I am a single 50y old man, Canadian and i was actually looking to retire in Thailand but after doing lots of research and talking to people this visa thing and the price is going up on everything i decided to pass. Someone recommended the Philippines and i really like what i saw in Cebu condo by the beach etc. The one thing i would like men to know because i been single for 10 years now and i tried to find a good western women but got a rude awakening at 41. There is nothing wrong being single and you don't have to go somewhere to date nor find love. For me my reason to move from Canada is the huge inflation everywhere, the winter, and i want a stress free life. If i end up meeting a good women great if not its ok to
I spend a month every year in the Philippines living with my wife's family (Angono, Rizal) and I fully believe all your expenses plus, as you say, you could live considerably cheaper. The one expense that did surprise me was your medical/travel insurance as I would have expected at least double that. Age increments accepted, would it be a similar amount if you left your expat employment and became a permanent resident of the Philippines?
I am planning on not so much provencial life, but somewhere like Dumaguete or Bocolod or such, and do some exploring from there. From what I have seen, I should be fine with the 3300 dollar pension and then some, which would be almost a poverty wage here. Then I can use some of my 401k for some out of country travel, buying a motorbike, etc. Here in the States, that 401k would be getting sucked down just to be comfortable. 3 more years. Can't wait.
I live in mindanao, Davao area. My rent is 140 (2br apartment, new) electric is about 70, wifi 40 (30 mbps), water 4. I sometimes get a load for my phone so total is less than 10. Food is cheap here so I stopped cooking. We only eat out and its pennies on the dollar. I struggle to spend 40 a week on eating out. We go out 2 days a week and eat out/order in all the time, which includes the lady who comes by every morning selling breakfast foods. All in all I spend about 600 on average, but mostly less than that. And yes we travel to mount apo area and many of the beautiful beaches from davao to German, including the private beaches and small islands only acce6by boat. It really depends on area and how one wants to live. I dont need a pool as I'm a few minutes away from 2 beaches too.
Very well documented Gio and very good informative video as usual. The only thing I would add is the cost of premium cigars. I suspect they are a pricy item, probably double the cost of what one would pay in the US.
I dont think they that expensive as i know a girl and her family has a farm outside cebu and they grow tobacco aand sell cigarretes, but im not for sure
I've been living here for 20yrs in the bicol airea, I bought one hector on the main road built my home and now I only have electric and water bills to pay.
I built my house in Bicol in the 90's, still have it but have been back in the UK, for many years. I just could not make enough income there. Due to go back out for a long stay 22 or 23.
Great video and very realistic budget. Having spent quite a bit of time in the Phils, you make a great point about what type of lifestyle do people want and what does that pricing look like. And I'm with you, coffee, haircuts and dating is a must!
I've been in Hua Hin Thailand for a year and live in a nice 1-bedroom condo with all the amenities on the south side a minute from the beach. $400 a month for rent and utilities. I'm way older than you but happy to be living it up. Started watching you in 2020 when considering the move. Interesting viewpoints. Cheers!
I love living expense videos my wife is from the Philippines we live a comfortable life here in the US and I can assure you that if we were in the Philippines we would also live a comfortable life. Each person needs to live the way that they want to live
Thank you for the info, we are moving in the philippines in couple years. it’s great to know and have ideas for the expenses. Great stuff! Best regards from Canada
EXCELLENT; YOU EXPLAIND IT VERY WELL.. I have the habit of living comfortably. You can't visit a foreign country and live at a lower level. You wanna enjoy. I lived in Thailand for two months and spent little less than 3000.00 dollars. Thank you
Nice Video and you give me many ideas to look forward to when I start planing to live there... I always thought condo's was the best choice and thanks for confirming it. Looking forward to seeing your other videos. Thanks again..
this is very enlightening. i am at the point i may be ready to do what you are doing. but i do like your comment that you are happy. that is all that matters. why skimp. you worked hard to get where you are
Great breakdown on condo and personal expenses Gio. When my Filipina GF and I shared a furnished condo at Winland Towers in Cebu City, I was paying around $1,400 - $1,600 per month for all of the things you covered here. Nice job!
Question r u living in a mansion or maybe Ike a luxury lifestyle..? then I may understand ur Bills. But if u feel n think ur living lifestyle is an average then either ur being robbed or fool by someone.. its a red flag 🚩 time to evaluate ur situation lifestyle n run 🏃 .. ijs good luck 👍😅
Thanks Gio for showing your real cost to "live" not exist. If you want to have a life, you have to spend money. Thanks for being honest. I live about 8 miles from downtown Cebu and to live, date, do things, travel, cover break downs, medical, eat well, security, you have to have a good/bigger budget/income. Everyone is different with different situations.
That's great information. Despite loathing cities, it is interesting to see the lifestyle and the economics. We spend about $2,000/month for a family of four plus my wife's family in the province but we own the house so no rent. We're on the ocean front so we can swim. But we're happy to walk away from the house, her family can just keep it. We thought about retiring there permanently and building quite a compound off Samar. But not now. I'm willing to pay quite a bit for freedom, it turns out. We're running $3,500/month in the USA and also own the property here, no mortgage or rent. Just higher cost of living.
Wow that's amazing! Congrats. I hope I'm not rude in asking you this. But what did you do for a living? And what passive income do you have to afford all that 😳 I'm only 30, and would love to move now. How much savings do you think i would need for someone who is single living in the province?
@@JJ-wr4qj this is tough to answer but something I have also thought about. Quick and dirty math below: Assume monthly income required in USD is $1500 based on the video about. That’s $$18,000 per year. You’ll keep your US citizenship so assume you need to pay US income taxes, so add 20% to the $18,000 -> $21,600. Referring to the FIRE movement, If your goal is to live off income you’ve saved and invested primarily so you’re not obligated to get a job while there, if you use the 4% rule then you need $540,000 in a diversified investment account to make this happen. May want to add another $50,000 to $100,000 for an insurance policy at a minimum. Any additional income is a bonus then.
@@GiointhePhilippines Discovered your videos researching Newtown area. I noticed your traveling videos after I made the comment. I'll binge watch them. Hope you're doing well.
Aloha, I hope you’re well. I’ll be staying for a month in a hotel in Cebu, while searching for a long term stay condo. Does anyone here has information about how to get the local rate at the hotels in Cebu? I’m still in USA and will travel to move on December this year, Thanks, 🙏🏽
So what the name of your health insurance and vehicle insurance names you use case I go there. And name of your bank is I will need to transfer money from US Bank please. Thanks.
I live in Phnom Penh and spend about $850 a month without rent. My medical insurance is one of my highest expenses, but I'm old. 😂 If you get a condo or apartment try and get a place on the north side. That will save you a lot on your electric bill. Good point about swimming. In the city here you'll pay $6 plus each for a pool and gym for the day.
These are awesome benchmark figures and realistic. I'm gonna be budgeting for dating $1000 a month coz I would date a lot and enjoy the food and beach scene. $2K a month would be my budget.
I'm going back to Cebu City soon. I'm currently in Davao City. In Cebu, I was living at the Horizons 101 condo on Mango Ave aka the red light district. The club music doesn't stop til 5 a.m. and I can hear it even being on the 29th floor! When I go back to Cebu, I want someplace quiter so is IT Park my option? Note that my monthly rent for a fully furnished condominium was 25k (all included, water and electricity). Can I find something similar at IT Park?
Another great video Gio. I think the main takeaway, as you conveyed, is that monthly costs are directly related to lifestyle + personal preferences. My own monthly costs here are relatively high, but that's entirely my own choice and circumstance.
Oh hi nice vlog you have i want to subscribe your vlog.. I am from cebu but I live in the province but it's nice here a lot of beautiful beaches here and springs
Late to the party but you said rent was 400 a month during pandemic but that was 40 to 50,% less than pre pandemic. So you are saying 600 to 800.00 a month for rent?
Gio, how is the air pollution in Cebu ? Traffic, clean air and access to fresh fruit and veg at reasonable prices would be ny main conerns in looking at big cities in asia.

About me: My name is Gio and I left the USA over 5 years ago to travel SE Asia and live a better life. Follow my journey as I travel around The Philippines showing everyday life and travels.
My channel: Reviewing different islands and cities in The Philippines as places to visit or live, condo and apartment reviews, dating tips, & how to travel and live inexpensively in The Philippines.
you mentioned about having Netflix and Hulu and all of these other video streaming services, but I am curious which heading those costs fall under?
Can't find your condo video
Great video again!!! which visa category you replied under if not married and under 50?
Finally a current video from a Single guy's perspective.
Good advice Gio, thanks
It cost me $4000-$5000 to live basic life is Southern California and the female population here sucks so that does not include dating. Can not wait for Thailand to open up and enjoy life again.
You'll do well in Thailand with half that budget.
I would of thought Southern California would of been over run with Women
LOL
YOU TALK ABOUT REAL, ALL CORRECT, AND RELIABLE INFORMATION. EXCELLENT EXPLAINATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lapu-Lapu is a city on the island of Mactan which is connected to the city of Cebu on the island of Cebu by two bridges.
thank you. Moving to the phillipines this Summer. Need all the help I can get.
Thank you for sharing your budget.
like in the US, location is what makes how much u spend, ofcourse along with your lifestyle and ur needs/wants...everyone is different.
@@wmjohns881 , we ALL hope you are wrong... ;)
Thank you for your honesty, and understand the way you think about living a comfortable life.
Thanks for the breakdown Gio, that’s a enviable lifestyle for the money. Batchelor life in the Philippines would suit me just fine now, and a condo with a pool is ideal for dating. Enjoy it while it lasts buddy, I envy you a lot.
Do all newer condo developments include an exercise and workout room?
@@wmjohns881 typically newer higher end condos have gyms and pools.
@@markledesma2396 haha.....Thanks for your province cost of living input. Great.
@makingthemovebydarren9255
Yup
Nice work. Thank you for the time and effort. No need to justify your costs. It's about your quality if life. While I understand it's relative, like you, I always enjoyed an upward and higher quality. Life's too short. Stay well.
Thank you
Thanks for that detail monthly expense vlog; yes, anybody can spend less or more but if you're perfectly happy with what you're doing now, keep doing it! Stay safe, Gio!
Hey Good, live the way you want. You're doing an awesome job letting everyone know stuff about the Philippines. Thank you.
I appreciate that!
Hell I could live on 2k a month in America
Very thorough, Gio. VERY realistic budget for us spoiled Westerners; I can't think of any expense category you didn't cover.
Yes, condo or service apartment living is great if you are single. I did that in the past when I first came to live in Thailand.
Very true!
Thank you for sharing this.👍
good idea!
Great video Gio. Very informative and detailed. Great place for people to start if they want to try to live in the Philippines. Location and lifestyles will definitely be an influencing factor but you have given a lot of explanation on those factors.
Thank you
You’ll be living like a king with a $4k budget.
thanks for the informative video. i am 51 and plan to use the SRRV classic and this video gives me an idea of average expenses.
Nice video ! Like you said - rent is cheap because no tourists during pandemic, health insurance is cheap because you are under 50, cost of buying/renting the bike itself is
not included, some people probably eat 3-4 times a day or bigger meals.
So, if I try to adjust your budget for a 66 y/o retiree after borders reopen, I think 2K USD per month on a tourist visa. With SRRV , there is a big deposit to make, so budget will grow accordingly. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Great information...Thanks.
the rent in your place is pretty good Gio considering all the amenities you have there a condo like that would cost thousands of dollars in America
Thanks Gio.
Been watching you awhile now, always find you well informed.
Appreciate your straight forward attitude.
I recently re-discovered your channel, because I didn't have notifications on. Glad to have you back! It's weird that you "only" have 35k subs, your content is great! I am thinking your views are from people not subscribing, which is sad. Thinking of joining your patreon. :-)
Oh thank you!
Nice options there. Thinking about Cebu as the retirement location a few years out though. Any issues riding your motorbike in town, vs driving a car? I remember the traffic in Cebu, not as bad as Manilla, but still pretty crazy.
None, that being said I can see it getting worse and worse here.
Thank You so much Gio.
If I moved to PI, this is how I wish to live (I'm not prepared to give up all of my Western comforts and conveniences).
Very interesting and informative.
I look forward to checking out your other videos.
Glad it helped, thank you for watching 🙂
Yeah to give up western comforts , need to think a million times because if you want to maintain western average standard living , being a Filipina long time living in the western , it’s much much more expensive to live in the Philippines .
i'm glad you are honest about living there where these old geezers brag about living at $900/mo and they don't look too comfy.
Don’t let the haters affect you. Just do you. Be happy. You are on the right track.
Thank you fellow vet!
I am Army veteran , how is the food in the Philippines? What city you recommend to check first . I never been to the Philippines before.
I would probably be happy living where you are. I like being able to walk to most of the things I need.
Me too, I will often park my bike and not even use it for a week.
Yes I prefer apartment living with amenities and security and having everything close by to each their own and everyone is different when it comes to type of lifestyle they prefer and are use to
Might do a consultation. I’m looking at the Philippines as one option to live 6 months of the year. Coming in December to check it out.
Sounds good, you can book directly through my website www.giointhephilippines.com
Thanks Gio,, I have a budget of $2,000 AUD a month when I finally get to the Phillipines, so you’re monthly budget is pretty close to what I have allowed 😀👍… Thanks for sharing… Rob from Melbourne Australia…
You'll be all set for a good lifestyle.
Sounds great!
Thank you very much for showing your budget. I think it is very reasonable what you pay each month . I am retired . I have a steady income of $3000 a month ..if they ever drop the restrictions there, I will be there ..
Good video, very informative thank you
Thanks for the info, my budget is about $1600 realistically so this helps.
You're welcome
How did you do on the last Typhoon? The one from Dec 2021, can't remember the name...
Great information
Are there decent apartments there for $200-$250 in Cebu area, and does security screen your guests at your condo? Also most of that travel insurance just reimburses the insured. A person has to ask for a direct pay policy to the hospitals to avoid having to pay the medical bills upfront.
There are decent apartments for that range but nothing I personally feel comfortable in but I am sure if you looked hard enough you could find a hidden gem.
$1500 is awesome dude. Especially when your adding in dating and entertainment. I live in Florida and I pay $1300 for rent lol. Your Golden dude
Brother you can definitely do it too! I am living similar as Gio. Great life and once your here, you are basically a top commodity for the woman. I am also from Florida brother but now living in Philippines
@@learningtobefilipino8606 i am also in FL and considering this life changing experience.
@@learningtobefilipino8606 Hi,
I plan on moving there, as a single ex military, do you recommend it ?
Where to move for some months first?
Thanks,
I am a single 50y old man, Canadian and i was actually looking to retire in Thailand but after doing lots of research and talking to people this visa thing and the price is going up on everything i decided to pass.
If i end up meeting a good women great if not its ok to
Canadians are being kidnapped here be careful bud
I spend a month every year in the Philippines living with my wife's family (Angono, Rizal) and I fully believe all your expenses plus, as you say, you could live considerably cheaper. The one expense that did surprise me was your medical/travel insurance as I would have expected at least double that. Age increments accepted, would it be a similar amount if you left your expat employment and became a permanent resident of the Philippines?
Sounds like you are living the dream!
Great videos...
Thanks for sharing.
That saves on one of your biggest expenses for sure.
Are you allowed to own land and register it in your name in the Philippines? Thanks, Donnie.
My sister cuts my hair for FREE, haha. Well, I don't imagine I'll take her to PH with me though.
Hi friends. Today, we start Wednesday morning with a great video from our friend. Korean friends always support you.
Liked the info and honesty. Thank you.
Thank you
I've been in Hua Hin Thailand for a year and live in a nice 1-bedroom condo with all the amenities on the south side a minute from the beach. $400 a month for rent and utilities. I'm way older than you but happy to be living it up. Started watching you in 2020 when considering the move. Interesting viewpoints. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing!
Great video!👍🏽
I love living expense videos my wife is from the Philippines we live a comfortable life here in the US and I can assure you that if we were in the Philippines we would also live a comfortable life. Each person needs to live the way that they want to live
True, however as you know many people in the world are not fortunate enough to live the way they want to live.
Update your video to reflect the pandemic and inflation.2022 please!
Thank you for the info, we are moving in the philippines in couple years. it’s great to know and have ideas for the expenses. Great stuff! Best regards from Canada
Thank you both.
Thank you, Gio! for sharing this, very valuable!!
Welcome
EXCELLENT; YOU EXPLAIND IT VERY WELL.. I have the habit of living comfortably. You can't visit a foreign country and live at a lower level. You wanna enjoy.
I lived in Thailand for two months and spent little less than 3000.00 dollars.
Thank you
What ever you do don't cut your dating budget my goodness that's why you have a happy life

Nice Video and you give me many ideas to look forward to when I start planing to live there... I always thought condo's was the best choice and thanks for confirming it. Looking forward to seeing your other videos. Thanks again..
Glad it was helpful!
this is very enlightening. i am at the point i may be ready to do what you are doing. but i do like your comment that you are happy. that is all that matters. why skimp. you worked hard to get where you are
this is a great ball-park figure Gio; people need to understand that this is Your average monthly expenses. Not everybody else's monthly costs.
Starlink coming to the Philippines next year...$500 usd equipment fee and $99 usd ...cannot wait!!!
The Starlink that Elon Musk is involved in? Wow! Very nice.
Thanks for all the details, I have watched all your videos, very informative and helpful to a guy that hasn't been there yet.
Great breakdown on condo and personal expenses Gio. When my Filipina GF and I shared a furnished condo at Winland Towers in Cebu City, I was paying around $1,400 - $1,600 per month for all of the things you covered here. Nice job!
Question r u living in a mansion or maybe
Ike a luxury lifestyle..? then I may understand ur Bills. But if u feel n think ur living lifestyle is an average then either ur being robbed or fool by someone.. its a red flag 🚩 time to evaluate ur situation lifestyle n run 🏃 .. ijs good luck 👍😅
Great audio. Loud and clear.
Exactly right
That's great information.
And what passive income do you have to afford all that 😳
I'm only 30, and would love to move now. How much savings do you think i would need for someone who is single living in the province?
@@JJ-wr4qj this is tough to answer but something I have also thought about. Quick and dirty math below:
Assume monthly income required in USD is $1500 based on the video about.
Been in Lapu-Lapu City for a little bit. I am thinking about moving to Newtown with my Filipina. I'll look out for you.
I don't live there anymore.
@@GiointhePhilippines Discovered your videos researching Newtown area. I noticed your traveling videos after I made the comment. I'll binge watch them. Hope you're doing well.

No problem 👍
Aloha,
I hope you’re well.
I’ll be staying for a month in a hotel in Cebu, while searching for a long term stay condo.
Does anyone here has information about how to get the local rate at the hotels in Cebu?
I’m still in USA and will travel to move on December this year,
Thanks, 🙏🏽
Thank you for the information. I'm thinking on living in San Felipe La Union in the provinces up north. Great blog.
So what the name of your health insurance and vehicle insurance names you use case I go there. And name of your bank is I will need to transfer money from US Bank please. Thanks.
Listed In the description
I looked at buying a condo there and also renting a unit but chose a place on the beach. This was when I got stuck fpr 6 mos there
I live in Phnom Penh and spend about $850 a month without rent. My medical insurance is one of my highest expenses, but I'm old. 😂
If you get a condo or apartment try and get a place on the north side. That will save you a lot on your electric bill.
Good point about swimming. In the city here you'll pay $6 plus each for a pool and gym for the day.
Well done presentation.
These are awesome benchmark figures and realistic. I'm gonna be budgeting for dating $1000 a month coz I would date a lot and enjoy the food and beach scene. $2K a month would be my budget.
Great video and advice!!! Thank you very much.
Whoa 😳 thats very good , thanks for sharing👍
I'm going back to Cebu City soon. I'm currently in Davao City. In Cebu, I was living at the Horizons 101 condo on Mango Ave aka the red light district. The club music doesn't stop til 5 a.m. and I can hear it even being on the 29th floor! When I go back to Cebu, I want someplace quiter so is IT Park my option? Note that my monthly rent for a fully furnished condominium was 25k (all included, water and electricity). Can I find something similar at IT Park?
Mango is louder than IT Park for sure.
Good info Gio, thanks
Thank You, finally done from a single guy.
It is possible to live a very good cheap life in the Ph, but I agree $2000 a month is a very good life too in the PH.
Another great video Gio. I think the main takeaway, as you conveyed, is that monthly costs are directly related to lifestyle + personal preferences. My own monthly costs here are relatively high, but that's entirely my own choice and circumstance.
Well said
Oh hi nice vlog you have i want to subscribe your vlog.. I am from cebu but I live in the province but it's nice here a lot of beautiful beaches here and springs
Thank you 😊
Late to the party but you said rent was 400 a month during pandemic but that was 40 to 50,% less than pre pandemic.
So you are saying 600 to 800.00 a month for rent?
I agree with you gio. That would probably be my life style also. Good video
Thank you
Gio, how is the air pollution in Cebu ? Traffic, clean air and access to fresh fruit and veg at reasonable prices would be ny main conerns in looking at big cities in asia.
Within Cebu City not so great but here in Mactan it is good and plenty of outdoor markets nearby.
Great video man it was good to me I here ya I'm not gonna cut down on the a.c. and haircuts either man do what make u happy
I appreciate that
My condo would have a decent gym, including WiFi no extra pay,
