One thing about Davao I think that is left out in your videos is the 911 emergency response service. You can call it for security, fire, health emergencies and even complain about the neighbor's loud videoke after 10pm. They will send the police over. Ambulance service via 911 is also free.
@@marcoexplores4175Only in Davao city have an emergency response team it’s called Central 911. It’s free of charge and is the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region. So if you need emergency help while in Davao dial 911.

Night life is boring in davao because it's the law . Samal is going to be davao's party place once the bridge is up. They don't have a liquor ban and curfew for minors in samal or at least not as strictly enforced.

The huge advantage of Cebu vs Davao is Cebu's geography. Cebu is in the Center, it is in the heart of the Philippines, From Cebu, everything is just one ride away. If you want to go to the malls, just one ride away. If you want to destress and visit the highlands of Cebu City, its just one motortaxi ride away, If you want to go to the white sand beaches, its just one bus ride away, if you plan to go the other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, ita just one ferry ride away, if you want to go to other Asian countries ( taiwan/s.g/ h.k/jpn/kor, qr etc), its just one plane ride away. If you plan to go to Manila for business, Cebu has at least 31 Daily flights to Manila. Cebu even has a direct flight to L.A.X. Thats the huge advantage of Cebu. Plus Cebu being a trading hub before colonization, and during colonization, Cebuanos are used to welcoming foreigners to our land.
That's true. But, thank God the Davao-Indonesia sea route is open, and some commercial sea route like 2Go Manila to Davao and Gensan are now open, making the sea more active there. Also, Davao has direct flights internationally, and more will come. Ten years from now, I'm sure Davao will become an important international trading hub, given the fact that Indonesia will lead the economic power in sea and strategically making ties or trading with them is a good move.
Yes my place is one taxi ride away to Colon, Port Areas, to north and south terminals, to Mactan international airport or any places in Cebu including my school at University of Southern Philippines in Lahug where I graduated in 1972 and 1976 respectively.
To add, Davao city has better Standards of Living, and a lot of well connected highways and wider, I mean wider roads, than any place in Cebu and whole Visayas. The food is better, definitely, due to fresher ingredients and a lot cheaper. When it comes to sources of income or job opportunities, Davao is not only for white collars but also for blue collars as well. Davao has more job opportunities in provincial areas than what Cebu has. Davao city has almost twice the economy of Cebu city despite the latter being a 400year old city and the former being an 80year old. You see the difference? And Davao is far more multi ethnic and multi-lingual, with higher scores in English proficiency and better Tagalog fluency as well. Davao may be a way younger city, but it has everything you need from high quality healthcare, to good quality unis or colleges, shopping malls comparable to Manila and Cebu. It's about better living standards and lower cost of living with income comparable to Cebu and Manila.
In fairness, the taxi cab drivers in davao city are honest. Had a bad experience in Cebu many times, taxi drivers drive us around in circles near the port area, later we realized the ferry terminal is just a stone's throw. I'm sorry, I still love the laid-back provincial life in Davao.

I'm from General Santos and have been working in Davao for 6 years now. I also worked in Cebu for 3 years. Davao is so vast that when you travel and think that it's already a different province, you will be shocked to realize that it is still Davao City, lol. Davao borders Bukidnon province (if you want mountain feels you can go to Buda it's like little baguio), Samal and the surrounding Davao del Norte, Del Sur and occidental (if you want surfing, snorkeling, white sand beaches, etc.) However, I agree that the nightlife in Davao is way behind that of Cebu, and the infrastructure is also not as developed as Cebu's. On the other hand, when it comes to food and fresh produce, Davao is much cheaper. In terms of safety, you can stay overnight on the streets of Davao without getting harmed. The streets of Davao are also cleaner, and there are no water-filled potholes like the ones I often find in Cebu, especially in small streets leading to neighborhoods.
Infrastructure are those built by gov't for public use like highways, inner city roads, flyovers, bridges, sewers, sidewalks, dams, dikes, waste disposal sites etc etc. Power grids and water supply pipelines are infrastructure too. Skyscrapers, highrises, condos, business centers are privately owned for profit, they're not public infrastructures.
Davao has it all. Fresh air, beaches, islands, mountains, nature, countryside, City, everything within reach. Less crimes, not polluted, 911 1st in Asia, clean water for decades. Davao City Water has been categorized as the world's second best water, that is a fact. Davao is blessed with fertile land and a suitable climate for vegetation and farming. So, it is no wonder why the region is home to fruits or fruit basket of the Philippines. Typhoon free and most people are well disciplined and well mannered. It is a popular tourist destination because it has got a lot of varied sites that you can visit. There is no doubt that Davao City is the most progressive, most modern and highly urbanized metropolis in Mindanao. You pretty much covered the necessary aspects for choosing residency and that it also is a matter of preference. Davao has some advantages over Cebu in that it is younger and therefore able to adopt some good urban planning, and a much wider land mass to develop infrastructure. It also has some really good natural resources. In another way, Cebu has some advantages over Davao, as you mentioned, it is like a hub between the Visayas and Mindanao. As such Cebu has advanced more rapidly and enormously than Davao. Cebu city being the oldest city, urban planning was/is simply not feasible. But commerce and income has allowed Cebu to develop just about the whole island with an offshoot of a vast number of residential possibilities. Cebuanos very seldom try and compare Cebu to other cities and provinces. Hands down they just love where they live, plus they know Cebu is well ahead of most other places other than Metro Manila. City and Province gross incomes far surpass any of them, Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, including some cities in Metro Manila. So really it is just a matter of preference. Davao a little more country, Cebu a little more rock 'n roll. Thanks for the video.

Quality of life, fresh air and cleanliness, cheaper cost of living ( except for real estate - my house and beachfront condo - which eats away my monthly pay). Cebu has a a lot of places to go to, more modern infrastructure, more expats and Koreans, Chinese and Japanese (especially IT Park. They have food businesses here. Davao has Indians as medical students), more job opportunities with higher wages. But food is pricey and rubbish can be found just around the corner on the next neighborhood. Davao is a cluster of beautiful undiscovered falls and beaches beyond its Davao Oriental and Occidental territories. Yeah, true that people are more reserved, lived quietly, and lived simply because they are used to their Communities' disciplinary platform against Crime and Terrorism. Davao is more modern ,richer in innovations, high quality of life, classy in many ways, clean, dynamic, multicultural, rich in history, big city indeed.
'm 100% Dabawenyo. For me, it's very safe but a bit boring compared to Cebu and Manila. If you want to live a quiet and peaceful life, Davao is the best choice. Me, as a party go-er, I prefer Cebu/ Manila.
Hey John could you be able to feature about a foreign family that resides here in Davao hope you do but thanks anyway upon efforts been made from trying.
I mean if you could find someone ask them about their impression while living here in Davao and is the situation of the kind of living adaptable to them. Thanks again John...
Liked and subscribed. If you don’t mind could you recommend areas of Davao that are some what rural but ( 1/2hr +/-) away from the large city amenities. Thanks.
Discipline is way more obscene in Davao compared to Cebu City. Cebu City is also currently struggling with its local governance not to mention that size wise it's a lot smaller than Davao City. Infrastracture is also limited and streets are more narrow, hence the traffic. However, once all of these are addressed, Cebu City will be a super city comparable to Singapore or Seoul in South Korea.
Very nice video but what about = International airports, full service immigration office, grab, good bus/public transportation, and Quality Hospitals ? Which city is best ?
I’m from Cebu, born and raised. And yes, that was a fair and completely factual observation of the Cebu. But, FYI, the populace isn’t 100% Cebuano. What makes Cebu crowded are from neighboring provinces.
@@darkboard5556 My friend from cebu complained about that. She went to davao but people spoke to her in tagalog there instead of bisaya lol Boracay is somewhat similar. i'm thankful for both City: my ancestors arrived in Mactan onboard Magellan's Galleon they then spread out first in Visayas, South Luzon, North Luzon then in the early 1900's and mid 1900's in Mindanao: mi padre migrated in Davao in the late 1950's. i also know same with our family name whom they came from Visayas but mi padre came from South Luzon.✌️🙃🙂
What would be your 3 favorite neighborhoods to live in in Davao esp when 1) considering restaurants (not necessarily the most expensive, but that have good savory food), 2) condos, 3) convenience (centrality and walkability being two factors the jump immediately to mind). Thanks!! I appreciate your vids and your perspective. -Mike
as a Cebuano, I could say that I agree but knowing why gives an upsetting feeling. Make note that Cebu is the oldest City in the country, before organized infrastructures took place it strived as No.2 after Manila, so we could say Davao could be better because of previous administration in terms of infrastructures but with overall factors people cant stop visiting and choosing Cebu Province than most. Thanks for sharing the experience on both cities!
I think the cost in the phils is a lot of times very similar especially when your talking Filipino style accommodation and food. It does seem like Davao is great as a city my concern would be traveling out of the city and all of safety risk related to that. Not that long ago there was all the fighting with the IS group. Still i will probably come and visit and maybe meet the great smulo. My plan is to travel around a bit to find a good fit for me. But i am really lending my self to the idea of the luzon/bicol island. It seems like going on a ferry with a car is a real Pain in the ass. Great video John

You're right about Davao City being a little unfriendly its maybe because Davao is a multi-cultural city. Everybody is treated fairly regardless of race without any special treatment to any tourists or foreigners. People in Davao sees them as human beings and nothing special.
Multicultural because there are a lot of tribes and it's more religiously diverse do you mean? As a foreigner both cities feel overwhelmingly monocultural.
True. People in davao are more reserved compared to cebu. Going out in a party for example davao people would tend to stick to its circle from the start til they go home. Whereas in cebu, people would not mind to mingle with others circles and form a bigger group in the party and have lots of fun. I've been to both
@@WatchCaliforniaExpatif you are filipino you would notice the diversity in davao. I don't know if you have experienced the kadayawan festival. That's when you'll see ethnic diversity on steroids in davao.
Davao also has the largest public hospital in the country which serves also patients from different provinces of Mindanao that has lots of public financial assistance to needy patients .
The Traffic system was developed before davao grew so fast. Naturally it is insufficient. But it's going to be upgraded soon with the coming of HPBS. Just wait a little bit.
Cebu is so polluted and over crowded for me and I got scammed many times specially in the airport and the weather is stinkin' hot. Davao for me is breathable not too hot some places are cooler and it's pretty safe.

Davao people are more discipline than the rest of the country.... & the local goverment is strict in implementing garbage disposal in davao city not like in metro manilla its free for all except marikina city.. ❤
One thing about Davao I think that is left out in your videos is the 911 emergency response service. You can call it for security, fire, health emergencies and even complain about the neighbor's loud videoke after 10pm. They will send the police over. Ambulance service via 911 is also free.

peace and order - davao (its obvious, Duterte effect)

cleanliness - davao ( have a larger land area)
cost of living - davao ( except condos, others is cheaper)
infra - cebu (cebu is older city)
worst traffic - cebu ( Davao has a lot of bypass road and much larger land area)
Food - Cebu (except for fruits is cheaper in davao)
Job opportunity - Cebu (more investors)
life quality - Davao (Chill and lowkey)

That true I'm a Cebu native.
Yes my place is one taxi ride away to Colon, Port Areas, to north and south terminals, to Mactan international airport or any places in Cebu including my school at University of Southern Philippines in Lahug where I graduated in 1972 and 1976 respectively.
geography? who cares about geography? what a stupid comment
To add,
Davao city has better Standards of Living, and a lot of well connected highways and wider, I mean wider roads, than any place in Cebu and whole Visayas.
The food is better, definitely, due to fresher ingredients and a lot cheaper.
When it comes to sources of income or job opportunities,
Davao is not only for white collars but also for blue collars as well.

Define infrastructure. Marco says davao is better infra wise you say otherwise. So what is infra?
@@darkboard5556 i THINK WHAT INFRA MEANS TO HIM IS CEBU HAS MORE HIGHRISE BUILDING...
Cebu locals had more Spanish blood than other parts of the country arising from first contact with Spanish in 1521, and later in 1565. Followed by Zamboanga City and Sangley, Cavite where it used to be the docking and shipbuilding activity of Spanish authorities during the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade.

More like chinese. Less than 2% of pinoys have spanish blood bec we were governed mostly out of mexico during the spanish period. Hence the manila-acapulco galleon trade, among others
Whereas almost 30% of pinoys have chinese blood. Bec they've been here even before the spaniards came. And many of them settled in the port areas bec they came via merchant boats and ships. Iloilo, binondo, cebu etc. That's why there are a lot of lighter-skinned pinoys in these areas, primarily bec of oriental/chinese blood
Cebu is a drug infested area

fresh produce is scarce in Cebu, but Davao has abundance of it and cheaper

Currently working as a Prior Auth Registered Nurse in Optum, Cebu IT Park.
If I were to choose one, of course, Davao City!
Still, it is my second home for these past 8 months. It's been quite an experience and there's still more to see in Cebu. But I miss Davao... and my pets! 😂
It's good to hear your thoughts and it's interesting you are at Optum! Are you in the Calyx building or nearby? Davao is a cluster of beautiful undiscovered falls and beaches beyond its Davao Oriental and Occidental territories. Yeah, true that people are more reserved, lived quietly, and lived simply because they are used to their Communities' disciplinary platform against Crime and Terrorism. They really abide to the laws within the City. It's either you or others might be against their City Laws, but yet the people still uphold and abide for unilateral peace. That is why when Crimes were solved, they never protest. Because they liked it.👍🥰💖

The fact that davao is being compared to cebu now says a lot about davao's progress. Wait until cebu is being compared to iloilo/bacolod/cdo. unfortunately cebu has produced lame insufficient and ageing policy makers for the last 20 years.
Cebu being an ancient trading hub has an advantage of having centuries of generational wealth. The fact that davao is even on the table vis a vis cebu in conversation about economic development despite the latter being way ahead in time tells us great things about which one of the two?
@@darkboard5556 Cebu has the great potential to become a world class city when all the necessesary infrastructures are in place. Davao can't even keep up with IloIlo city as far as economic development is concern!

Having lived in cebu city for almost quarter of my life, and currently living in davao for 7 years, i could say that traffic wise, cebu city is worse, cleanliness goes to davao city, safety davao, im not saying that snatchers dont exist here, but i could safely walk around streets in davao city with jewelry and while using my phone. transportation, i'd pick cebu city they have large jeepney converted elf trucks that has leg space for days compared to multicabs here in davao. Davao is a laid back city, yes you can still party, but is only limited until 1am. If you want to party to death, go to cebu. Education, i'd send my kids to cebu. Cost wise, cebu is more expensive. Overall, i'd pick davao city over city if i were to choose where i would live.
