Those graphics look so timeless...
Facts...was having that same thought when I read your comment. I wish they made a gran turismo version of this with thousands of cars
cel-shade makes them "tune"-y.
Cel shaded is oddly satisfying
We need a remake or a new game of Auto Modellista so much right now, seeing new racing games are all towards having realistic visuals, which is not bad by any means, just that personally a new racing game, with AM's cell-shading visuals could become popular and attract good amount of people to play such game. Not to forget keeping all the content, improving the flaws from the original, better physics that could vary from Original version grip to US Tuned ver. drift physics based on how tuned a car gets and making the game have longer progression. Not to mention adding european cars since the game lacked them by having none of such cars at all.
If they said that it was an 2019 game I would have believed it
"Nowadays developers are doing their best to make realistic graphics but they lost something very important during the years: ORIGINALITY"
Man you're the greatest! Thanks for these words!!!
that is true
This game could come out in 2019, people wouldn't notice it was so old
TheKenji2221 think what they could do with the actual consoles...
It could do well in mobile actually! But probably a little bit of a improvement in graphics.
Some would. The lack of excessive product placement, fuccboi camber and crap ost are dead giveaways.

You could even customize your garage with parts you earned through the career. The goddamned thing had engine swaps. Even a video editor where you could go ahead and make your own music with some samples.
It was, and is, one hell of a game I would like to go back and experience all over like the first time.

This game needs a remaster, badly. New cars, tracks and mods will make the game perfect
Callum Roper as much as i agree, chances are that will never happen because this game was a commercial flop. ;;//
@@hxneyxblood Indeed, it failed. BUT if it was re-made again in the modern times, it will go on well.
Edit: It just need to fix *(If not all but most)* its flaws that the original had, more Car brands and cars *(Especially adding the modern Cars)* and i bet ya, this game will go on well.
Callum Roper It needs new physics. Everything else was stellar. Loved how the exhaust moved independently. But the controls were ultimately what defeated it at the start... 😞
@@Marzimus
Unfortunately, that is true. However, I'd replace the tyres on every car you build in career mode, the grip will become very high and you can land sub-1:50 times on Suzuka with little else done to the car.
Callum Roper I never got that intimate with Model. Cel shading is my favorite art direction (Thanks Lunatea's Veil!) but, between Jackass and of-age girls helping us acquire goods, I still hold the game in a special place. ❣️

You don't see that everyday especially on a racing game. Wish I know about this game back then.

Yes
I've pronounced this game "auto mellesian" for the longest time. Dyslexia perhaps.
well... its a capcom game after all
Originality trully is rare today... Almost all genres look like their rivals...
Knack 2 king of originality baby!!!
Knack 3 is going to be the end of the world due to it's greatness.
The announcer's voice looks like from the Street Fighter game.))
Hey, I found you another hidden gem and underrated racing game on PS2. It's called Enthusia Professional Racing.
Ah yes, Enthusia. Sucked that it had to come out around the same time as GT4 and get overshadowed, otherwise we'd probably be seeing sequels to that game. In my opinion, it actually simulated BETTER than GT4, which is pretty crazy for Konami to beat Polyphony Digital at driving simulation.
especially crazy, when you recognize that this game was the first simulation racing game from konami))
It wasn't that underrated yo. The game had a weird xp thing going on where all cars can slowly be leveled at the same level making everything balanced. The game has horrible physics though. I wouldn't waste my time (I own it) try The fast and the furious. Now that's a good underrated game. It was out when the PS3 launched but was a PS2 game from Bandai. They used Crave's style of racing games with Tokyo Xtreme racer and added some Need for speed underground 2 to the mix making all tuners customizable in many ways and the cars are all based on Tuners so there's a very good list of cars making it better than NFSU2's list. I think the only downside are the graphics. You'd think they would match midnight club 3 but they are very low res as the devs went that route probably on a budget but the physics and drifting is pretty unique. Whenever you drift it feels like a grind from Tony hawk
"But it was too shy to overtake you"
Aww that kinda warm my heart idk why.
they want you to win and be successful
The AI believes on you, and just wants you to be happy
One of the coolest features in this game was customising your garage
We need something a modern version of this. But the way gaming is headed i don't think we will ever get one. Sucks everything is FPS macro-transaction filled. Is sad.
You say EA games?
basically EA Games
basically EA Games
Remastered version using RE Engine you mean ?
That's what major AAA studios want you to believe. Midrange studios are still out there doing innovations and releasing full games with original ideas without the clunkiness of indies
Viper have you haver played the Battle Gear and Kaido Racer series on the Ps2? As well as Tokyo Xtreme Racer series too. Instant classics 👌🏻
The car models reminds me of Drift City, rip NA version
Ah old times. That was quite good online game
Yes! I was hoping someone else would say it! Looks exactly like Drift City... Man, I loved that game until they went crazy with microtransactions and over complication. Is it even still around?
@@1racerboy1 Yeah but NA servers went down a couple of years ago, you still have the Korean original servers but it's all in Korean
@@nikolayio1764 Theres at least two privately owned (unofficial) servers for english players in the works, coming out some time in the next year or two i think ^_^
yeah so true, i was trying to remember the name of that game.
The art style is incredible. It could be released in 2019 and be praised for its art (well, maybe with more lights?) There are not so many old racing game that aged well today
They would probably have to update the foliage to make it pop out more, but yeah, this, Okami, JSRF, those games stick with you because of how striking the art was.
Not sure if you knew about that, but US version of this game has different physics. In PAL and JP version cars have more grip and loose less speed on corners.
Does the PAL/Europe have any difference compared to the Original/Japan version?
@@Renopus apart language, dont think so, maybe some smaller changes but physics are the same, tested myself
Thank you, i am playing the US Tuned now and can't wait to try that out later, after i'm done with this one. They should have kept the physics intact with this version honestly.

Ricardo Coelho servers shut down at least 5 years ago i think... i spent too much time there, good memories hehe
Destroying whales with a sleeper Korando, man that game was good, didn't spend a dime and had a lot of fun.
I think you can still play it today on private Japanese servers.
I miss that game
@@takafumiarisawa70 Korean and Japanese servers are still Live, Japanese is pretty dead tho but Korean is very active with alot of the US server players transfering there. There has been a couple of private server attempts but they stranded pretty soon. Another one is in the making but i dont expect it to go live anytime soon.
It would be cool to see this style return and lean more into the anime look and Japanese arcade feel ... That being said this game aged BEAUTIFULLY
You should do Enthusia professional racing next!
Yeah that was cool also - if I remember correctly it was the first one on PS which had the Nordschleife implemented.
@@Baerenpapa007 before gt4 ?
@@CANADaria It came out slightly before GT4, I think. It's a long time ago that I've played these - maybe I'm wrong and GT4 was a little bit earlier. IF I remember correctly both came out without much time in between.
Edit: Yes, I was wrong. Enthusia's official release date was 17.03.2005 and GT4 came out 28.12.2004 - so, my apologies.

The funnest part of this game was that it had an online mode on PS2.
Definitely underrated... I hope there will be a racing game in the future with similar style graphics
Inertial drift: Hold my beer.
I’d love to hear your opinion about Choro Q HG2, also known as Road Trip Adventure in PAL regions. It has loads of originality and personality especially. Of every “retro” racing game I’ve ever played, Road Trip Adventure is the most deserving, in my opinion, of a remake.
oh my god yes. i remember seeing videos of the game on early youtube when i was younger but i didnt actually get to play it until recently when i remembered it and decided to run it with pcsx2. its certainly not a flawless game by any means (mechanically it's pretty poor even as a cartoonish arcadey experience) but its just so charming and adorable and really unlike any other game out there and i can't help but love it anyway. all the unique little personalities of all the car-characters are so fun, i loved meeting them all and i cared far more about recruiting the characters that i liked on my team instead of just caring about the "best" drivers (mien and pillow are my gang
I remember this game I think i liked everything apart from the handling lol
absolutely detest anything that "slides" like that similar to what happens in NFS Carbon, "drifting" or whatever it's called
Not as drifty as GRID 2 that's for sure.
@@Renopus or Grid Autosport
BlueFlag Alpha No, trying to drift will slow you down and cause you to spin out.
I feel so bad that the Japanese / first release version has different handling physics with a bit more sim-cade taste, they haven't applied on later versions(incl. the one in the video) for the game being more accessible and easier. :(
NFS Unbound should’ve leaned more into this art style.
My god, cel shading is awesome. It reminds me so much of Iron Man: Armored Adventures. Anyone else remember that show?
I remember to play this like 15 years ago. Right in the nostalgia.

Nobody mentioned "Redline"?
I just thought that it kinda resembled the movie
How? Redline is way further in the future and this was just a generic racing game set in it's current era
Erm... what Redline movie are we talking about? It sounds like a mix of the cinema failure Redline(2007) with the anime movie Redline(2009).

This makes me extremely nostalgic and I never even heard of this game till now, thanks for the video

the handling physics in this game almost seem to be a predecessor to the infamously drifty GRID 2. I personally enjoyed that game though it's gotten a lot of flak :/

I feel like I'm watching a more advanced version of Drift City
I miss drift city so much :(
my point was that the styles are the exact same not that AM is a rip off drift city
God i wish they would did it again, at least an ame with celshade style
also i did an school work with this game once
Best game, I remember just listening to the music in each of the menus. And wasting so much time making sure my garage was designed perfectly.
I remember this being one of the first games I pre-ordered. I was a huge fan of driving games and for some reason the cel-shading just seemed like it was the coolest thing in the world. The game promised tons of customization, and tons of cars. It sort of felt like it was going to be an animated version of the street racing game called "Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero"
The game right off the bad was pretty disappointing. Graphically it was gorgeous, but the driving physics were horrendous. In most tracks it was faster to bump into the corners than it was to actually slow down and keep a racing line.
This was a game I definitely remember being happy to trade into Gamestop.
As far as this video goes, its my first time on this channel. This video would of been 10x better with audio narration instead of the pop-up blurbs.
wendysorbust You are SPOT ON here. My pre-order was not justified with this game.. But I did play a lot of Tekken Tag in lieu of it. 😜
which is the best version to play with steering wheel? Japanese or us version?

15:45 ay it my boi MegaMan. MegaMan.EXE from battle network to be exact. Of course Capcom would put their blue bomber somewhere.
Also nice vid, but I find it weird how you talk in past form. You know. "you were" "it was" etc. Like it ain't true today and in the future.
1:54 Didn't think they would have the Cybertruck in this game
Damn...these graphics haven't aged a day. Might have to get this for gamecube if I can find it. 🤔
I remember having this game and thinking the menu sound effects and soundtracks were the coolest thing ever
The actual game looks a bit better that the one you see in video. The gameplay has been stretched to 16:9, making the cars look wider. The actual aspect ratio makes the cars look really really good
I’d love to see something like this made now with some similar physics to Forza MS or Gran Turismo. Even Forza Horizon physics would be dope
this and gran turismo was rival at that time
I would love Capcom to remaster this game, with more tracks, more cars, better engine sounds and better drift physics. I love the graphics as they are but if they wanted the could make rally cars kick up dirt on the sides of the cars, and add scratch’s if you hit other cars or a wall. And make RC cars actually feel like RC cars quick, grippy, and over all a lighter feel compared to the full size cars.
This game was amazing, from the car selection to the track, the only bad thing imo was the handling which is horrible
Always thought Drift City stole the artstyle from this lol
Did you play the US version or the Japanese version? I heard the physics are really dumbed down in the US version in comparison to the physics in the original game.
@@mathze are you sure? Why would they do that?
The very fun fact is, a chief director of Drift City (Skid Rush in Korea) mentioned Auto Modelista as a strong inspiration ahaha
@@Blueflag04 JP version's handling physics were relatively sim-cade style which is quite tough for a game with cartoon-ish graphics, so the developers decided to make the handling more accessible for every gamers.
@@mko4278 i didnt actually think there would be an acknowledged connection between them, but it makes perfect sense that DC/SR was indeed inspired by this! god i miss drift city ='[

0:32 I didn't expect the reference to the game XIII... I still find that the game is underrated. Even now it's still pretty fun to play
many games of that era were really cool like splinter cell, time splitters, jet set radio etc etc

holy shit that intro music! havent heard that in years, reminds me when i used to play those opm ps2 demo discs
9:48 Integra Type R is a few of the FWD car that can slide, thats not accurate judgement for the physics, but I agree, it slide too much.
