Imagine being stuck in an airplane with no chute, and plummeting to earth and knowing you have seconds till death. That suit gave Rhodey some minor protection at least.

That was bad planning lol. The fact that Vision didn’t course correct at all and the laser passed through Rhody’s suit means that even if he had knocked out Falcon’s thruster, he probably still would’ve taken out Rhody as well

At the hospital, he admitted to Stark that he got distracted, to which Stark replies "I didn't think it was possible" (for a robot to be distracted, that is). I think it was just the result of him developing feelings for Wanda. We can see that he also took a while to execute War Machine's order because he was focused on her, not on the fight. Making mistakes is the price he has to pay to become more human.

The fact that Falcon actually dove back down in attempt to catch Rhodey in time is such a good moment. Despite the fight they were having, he wasn’t going to let War Machine lose his life over something stupid.

I'm surprised how he managed to survive that fall. Everyone in the theater thought he died
I remember watching the trailer in 2016 and being devastated when I saw Warmachine being hit like that. I couldn’t see the film in theatres because of life reasons. But when I was away and thought about civil war I needed my sister to tell me if Warmachine survived(I didn’t care about spoilers when it comes to my favourite marvel character). I think before the film came out everyone thought Warmachine was gonna die, that moment where Tony said “Read vitals” and a heartbeat was detected was a relief(I didn’t believe my sister when she told me Warmachine survived).
News Flash: He shouldn't have survived. Hell, Stark shouldn't have survived every time he falls to earth in one of his suits. Falls should have killed him twice in the first Iron Man movie alone. No matter how hard and tough the armor gets, the squishy flesh and bone inside still gets destroyed from the extreme G-force deceleration from an impact like that. You would have an intact metal suit but the body inside would have 30+ broken bones including ribs and skull, and most internal organs including the brain damaged, with serious internal bleeding.

Sam was a legend in this scene because despite the fact he was on Captain America’s side, he still cared that War Machine was in danger and tried to save him
That look in Rhodey's eyes when he's falling, when he realises that he might not survive, I mean it's kind of scarily good acting by Don Cheadle. Like if it makes me stop to comment about it, it's something significant. Simple, but significant.

It was Vision who fired the blast, not Sam. Can't really blame a guy for ducking away from a laser that might've killed him - Sam didn't have the benefit of War Machine's armour, he would've died on impact if that beam had knocked out his powerpack.

The most important reason for Rhodey to survive: He needed to say: "So, he's an idiot" in Endgame, as he watched Starlord dance to a 70's tune.
Rhodes and Nebula bring the straight men to all the other fools was great in that movie. I almost wish they both went into space. I bet Nebula could use someone sensible to talk to around the Guardians.

Rhodey closing his eyes as he falls-presumably, to his death is a really under rated shot. It's as if he's making peace with the fact that he's gonna die. Really powerful stuff.

Not to mention the 120mph/ 193kmh slam into the dirt. Estimating War Machine weighs about 880lbs/400kg (heavy steel suit, has military components tacked on, hasn’t really been updated or refined since Iron Man 2) he would have been hit with about 77000 Newton’s of force on impact. He’s lucky to only lose his legs and not his life.
Tony wasn't wrong there, it's human tendency to react this way when you are anxious and on the verge of losing your best friend (from childhood). Remember? When starlord lost his mind when Thanos revealed about gamora, they were about to get the gauntlet but emotions trapped him in its clouds, and Tony also felt that feeling at that time.

After Endgame is a big possibility but it could also be possible that Gravik collected Harvest but then it was taken to a secured location only Fury knew of.
So, Civil War is also a viable possibility

If u ever had a panic attack you’ll understand how it feels to lash out at someone for no reason. I personally love sam, but Tony’s actions in this scene was justifiable.
This was not Rhodey's fault and neither was it Falcon's fault. It was Vision's fault. He himself admitted that he was distracted. Rhodey was wanting to make Falcon a glider so that he can land safely (and stops chasing them) and Falcon did absolutely nothing except dodge the attack.
And saying sorry out of pity like it's gonna make the situation any better.
Tony would also be angry at Sam for not just signing the accords and avoiding all this. Extra kicker being that it was all pointless anyway, there are no super soldiers to stop.

Not true, when you go into combat, the fact that some could DIE is a possibility. Even a street fight, a punch to the face could result in a dead man. A huge laser (or whatever that is) that can pierce WM's armor and take out his power source, directed at a rocket its probably a bad idea, that thing should have some power source that could explode, if not that, just how much power that beam had to pierce armor. Its not hard to miss at that distance and a miss is a 100% death sentence if it goes trough WM's armor. Vision can't predict the future, even if he calculates perfectly.

You can tell here one of the many reasons why Sam/Falcon is a great Captain America: loyalty. Even after fighting each other, when he realized Rhodes was going down, he didn’t hesitate to try and catch him as well despite the fact that they just had fought each other in opposite sides and had different opinions. They are a team, and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

Rhodey's incident was initiated by someone else who told Vision what to do. The tower falling I think was after the maximizing car which was on fire, which "wasn't part of the plan" . This scene scared me so much in the trailer. Tony screaming "RHOADES" and the shot of him taking off the mask to reveal Rhodey's closed eyes were anxiety inducing.

This scene had raw emotion and all the heroes struggling with their individual positions on both sides and also in the grander scene of things. No one felt a sense of satisfaction. Everyone had a hole in them. Rhody falling to the earth with heavy impact literally drove the break up of the Avengers home.
Its Scary and sad to see how Rhodey was replaced by the skrulls just few days ater this scene shows that The real Rhodey Had no idea that tony, vision and nat died, or about the blip. My man was captivated in new skurllos for 7 years. That's just really crazy.....

There are so many emotional/cool moments in this movie. Along with Cap, Bucky, and Tony's fight, this one is my favorite. I remember watching Civil War years ago, closer to when it came out and having 0 context because I watched it with my parents before I got into Marvel and it honestly sucks that it didn't hit as hard as it does for me now. Haha. Get it? Cause Rhodes hit the ground? No but seriously, I went through all the movies recently to get caught up and having seen the other films before this, oh my god it was terrifying to watch. I couldn't remember if Rhodes survived or not and the idea of being in this metal prison, plummeting to death was scary. And then before he hits the ground man... Marvel is so good at creating memorable moments. The music just cuts out as you can see Falcon and Stark flying towards Rhodes, and then a boom and dust on the ground. Wow.

All he would remember would be him free falling to the ground, then all of a sudden he woke up abducted in a room full of people, then after that he found out that his best friend is already dead, hiw avengers allies aren't around, and it has been 10 years since his free fall (civil war took place in 2016, secret invasion is on 2026)
Would give him a huge trauma and the same paranoia that led tony to develop ultron tbh
