Rhiannon demo if you search is just Stevie Nicks singing & playing the piano it is the most beautiful version i have ever heard. Stevie is talking while playing piano at first talking about wanting the sound of birds rising. It is listed by a name : Curtis? .. find it, you will love it. fan
Her introduction is interesting, an extended version of the later usual intro, "This is a song about a Welch witch." It was also interesting that she ended it by saying to the band, "And don't play too fast." Rhiannon was sometimes played a little too fast live, and it always hurt the song. This tendency must have been present from the earliest rehearsals, if she was already aware of it as a problem the first time it was played in public. Here they pretty much got it right. Thanks for posting!
once in a million yrs a lady like her rises....I always think of Stevie even though she isn't singing about herself...but fits her perfectly. No one comes close to the level of Stevie
There are a few songs over the course of your life that you can't forget because they meant so much when you first heard them and this is one of those songs for me and so many others.....
Oh My God! How is this even possible?! It's like time travelling but..I dunno. Rhiannon is timeless. Then Rhiannon was a real rock music, but now Stevie sings it slowly. This is how she changes, but she's eternal. It was amazing, thank you so much for uploading! It really made my day!:)
Seems she wrote Rhiannon at a slower tempo from the beginning. The people who played it with her sped it up, making her swallow her lyrics in gulps. This is frequently the case when you’re a female in a rock band-the boys take control & there’s nothing you can do about it when you’re singing!
Good version. It's always interesting to get tohear early versions of great songs to see how they evolved. Mick and John really put their stamp on this on the album track, really Making the song with their brilliantly understated groove. The vocal here can't hold a candle to the languid purr on the album track. She's pushing herself to cut through the mix but the atmosphere gets lost. Christine McVie sure added a lot with her backing vocals on the album version. Btw, the way Christine made room for Stevie and welcomed her was the mark of a real pro and great lady.
Languid purr - great description. Christine, and the whole band, did make space for Stevie and Lindsey and fittingly so as the arrival of those two not only saved the band from middling success but catapulted them to superstardom and a series of fantastic songs. It was a very lucky fate they all found each other.
my god. I've followed over 40 years. nothing nothing beats the way Stevie has been such a beautiful spirit grace and live of artistic poetry. u keep giving. sweet child..
For all the talk of what Stevie and Lindsey brought to Fleetwood Mac, it’s always interesting to hear what Fleetwood Mac brought to their music. This is interesting, but it’s a far cry from what it became just a few months later.
Absolutely. They took the rough edges off it and adding one of the best rhythm sections in rock history didn't hurt. Plus C McVie's keyboard was a good add on a song that could have benefited from a second guitar .
could you imagine stevie appearing on AGT or one of those other shows? she would have never been allowed to go to the next level, let alone won anything! how many other icons have been looked over???
This was great to listen to wish I had seen the show. This raw sound beats today's with autotune and pitch correction, that Fil has been showing on his tube.
This was written by Stevie before Fleetwood Mac. Everything she wrote with or performed a Song she had written, Mick always changed it up to sound more like A Fleetwood Mac exclusive.
If LIndsey was as controlling as the narrative suggests, maybe not so different. Or, from another perspective, when she says "who will be her master?" she means the answer to be "no one." She has no equal, no compromise, while love is always a compromise.
Sounds great and I love her intro. And yes they still played it too fast. But not nearly as good as when they did it in Fleetwood Mac, in large part because the Mick Fleetwood drum part is so much better. And the pace was better too.
So is this before or after Stevie and Lindsay was part of Fleetwood Mac? I was always under the impression she wrote this song while with Fleetwood Mac. My first time hearing this as the first release of one of my faves. Awesome!!

Opalstardream Yes, they are hosted by people just like you and me, and they share them freely. I've never been into torrent sites, especially since Pirate Bay and others are now under attack. Blogspots usually share unreleased concerts, not released music or movies, which keeps them in the "grey area" of copyright infringement. That is the safest music to share on youtube. Many of the live tracks are recognized, but not blocked. They just put ads on them, which is a small price to pay. Having been thrown off youtube 5 times already, I try to stay "under the radar" and out of trouble! +Opalstardream waddy was everywhere! for a real blast from past...he played on Nickey Barclay diamond in a junkyard album! she was in the female band "Fanny"... early 70s!!
Funny that when she's introducing the song and starts to get a little winded, you can hear Lindsey impatiently poke repeatedly at his guitar and punctuates it after she tells him, "...don't play too fast."
Not bad. I am glad FM cleaned up the repeated "Riannon", in the song. It was off pitch and rough here. They cleaned up a few other little things, that weren't too bad.
She says, "And don't play it too fast" ... so Lindsey instantly plays it quite clearly too fast, sounds like! Is this the spiteful/tense relationship she and he had? Sheesh ...
i did the sound for that show and was in and out of backstage. we did two shows back to back in a small auditorium. i was not touring with them but hired by the university and didn't know their circumstances, but something was up, because between the shows, stevie was crying backstage, but then came out and did a perfect second show with no sign of distress. what a pro!
If it weren't for Lindsey and Stevie, Fleetwood Mac would of folded up. These two are the reason Fleetwood Mac went from some what famous to super stardom
How was she and Lindsey in Alabama? I mean then they were so poor, I thought they didn't have money to buy new clothes, and they were living in San Francisco so what????
They had already joined Fleetwood Mac, so they had some money from a weekly salary they were being paid so Stevie could stop cleaning houses and waitressing. A local radio station in the south discovered the Buckingham Nicks album, which was a commercial flop, and started playing the songs on air. Listeners loved it so they had them come out and perform live in Birmingham.
@@meherbaba7566 also Birmingham, did several shows here, The FM station that put themon their playlisy was in BHAM- mainly "Long Distance Winner", "Frozen Love" and "Crystal". They were very popular in Alabama.
You're right. Back then she and Lindsey were so poor, and they were joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 january. :) Cocain really started in 1977 and it was escalating by 77, and she finally stopped it and went to Betty Ford in 86.
What a treat. A pre-F.M. Rhiannon with different lyrics. Until I heard this I didn't appreciate what Mick F. added to the song. His drumming is far superior to this version.
I was thinking the same thing. The drums are so loud and choppy it reminded me of a teenagers playing in a garage band, compared to the smooth beats of Mick
Great song but whooo this is not a great performance of this---the tempo is all over the place---and way too fast! Come on drummer keep them all on track--definitely needs old Mick Fleetwood!

This is so genuine - the way she introduces it. What a powerhouse.
The genesis of (in my opinion) one of the greatest rock songs ever!
Really like this version. Much more raw than the later famous version.
This makes you want to put on a black silk shawl and sing along with Stevie.
I would look funny in a shawl.
Her introduction is interesting, an extended version of the later usual intro, "This is a song about a Welch witch." Obviously was a bit too fast.
It's Welsh not Welch.
Darren Walton Yes Mom!

I prefer this version - Raw & Visceral
this was the first piece of music I ever bought, a 45. epic to hear this raw, live version for the first time
I was there for both shows at Morgan Auditorium. It seems like such a long time ago. Van Talley
Great early version.
Cool to hear its begginings.
She's so magnificent
Saw them in 74 Birmingham al. They opend for mountain. Then again in 75 , got backstage and me and my friend all of 15 met the group!!!!!
A song of such urgent, dreamy beauty could only come from such a one in a million lady.
once in a million yrs a lady like her rises....I always think of Stevie even though she isn't singing about herself...but fits her perfectly. No one comes close to the level of Stevie
Wow!!!! So cool to hear this version!!!!
If i was about to die, this would be last song i want to hear, hell, i wish they play it on my funeral
Wow what a version of this song! Fuggin FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥
There are a few songs over the course of your life that you can't forget because they meant so much when you first heard them and this is one of those songs for me and so many others.....
he started so fast hahahaha
Stevie sounds so young and nervous compared to when she was performing this life with FM just 2 years later
its interesting that you detected the emotion of fear or nerves. happens all the time early on when one has limited recording studio experience.
This is an amazing find :-) wonderful
Oh My God! How is this even possible?! It's like time travelling but..I dunno. Rhiannon is timeless. Then Rhiannon was a real rock music, but now Stevie sings it slowly. This is how she changes, but she's eternal. It was amazing, thank you so much for uploading! It really made my day!:)

Agreed, cant have been easy having a younger and prettier girl join the band. It says a lot about her. Admirable .

PRICELESS...PRICELESS...PRICELESS!
Fantastic 💥🙌
Fascinating stuff that throws new light on a classic song.
this is dope af
Wow. They really are the wonderful bridge between 60s hippies and classic rock 70s (and forever, FWMac will go on and on)
For all the talk of what Stevie and Lindsey brought to Fleetwood Mac, it’s always interesting to hear what Fleetwood Mac brought to their music.

The inventive bass line and beat McVie and Fleetwood brought to the tune made it all happen.
❤❤❤so freaking good
Excellent. Thanks for youtube for this
never heard this. bitchin! God damn I love Stevie Nicks. All of my favorite Fleetwood Mac stuff is either her voice or her lyrics.
Wow!!! This is so awesome. Never heard this before so thank you. Just a perfect pairing. Whatever they might say! Xx
Great photos as well
Awesome upload!! Thank you!
Fascinated with the change from "master" to "lover"....
Love !!!! Thanks for sharing !

interesting how this was already a recorded song on an album before they joined fleetwood mac. what a gift for fleetwood mac.
scissors65 It was never on an album pre FM. The poster is just using the album cover, I assume to indicate it’s when they were BN. ❤️
She was tiny. I think I still have this album
Wow! just wow!
Welcome to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist! This night, could you have ever dreamed such a dream? What a career!
Nice and very interesting...Love Stevie!
"Don't play it too fast" and then they play it too fast.
Woow!! Stevie Nicks!!!
If y'all like vintage. Look up Fritz on here. This was S n L band they had in high school. Some really cool stuff.
And they immediately start playing it too fast.
That's the way she likes it 😉
I thought the same thing. Lol, cocaine tends to do that. I mean, I've heard.
@@chaundra2456 live performances tend to be up tempo. And no Click Tracks back then.
@@accidental_relevance very true. I forget sometimes in this age of instant everything.🤗
Is it being played too fast or is this just the original tempo before Fleetwoodmac got their hands on it
This must be the metal version
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!
This was great to listen to wish I had seen the show. This raw sound beats today's with autotune and pitch correction, that Fil has been showing on his tube.
Genius.
I wonder why she change the last word of the phrase "Who will be her master?" for "Who will be her lover?" It completely changes the meaning of it.
Luis Gómez probably because master has controlling connotations while lover is more vague
This was written by Stevie before Fleetwood Mac. Everything she wrote with or performed a Song she had written, Mick always changed it up to sound more like A Fleetwood Mac exclusive.
Not commercial enough. You have to say baby, or lover, or sex, or something sexy every so often. :-)
If LIndsey was as controlling as the narrative suggests, maybe not so different.
Or, from another perspective, when she says "who will be her master?" she means the answer to be "no one." She has no equal, no compromise, while love is always a compromise.

OMG, price of the ticket was $4.00!!!
Great video!
'And DONT PLAY TOO FAST' stevie was so cute
And don't play to fast!

Interesting that the pronunciation of Rhiannon changed from Ree-ANN-on here to RYE-a-non in FM.
She's right, don't play too fast, but they did.
Funny that when she's introducing the song and starts to get a little winded, you can hear Lindsey impatiently poke repeatedly at his guitar and punctuates it after she tells him, "...don't play too fast."

agree. i thought he started way to fast. yes, tense.
They were not tense then yet, just the opposite. That started when they joined Fleetwood.
Laura Crosby gig speed. we all do it :)

You should write a book, I would definitely buy & read it. Love reading your experiences so far.
Is that Waddy Wachtel at 3:18
To me it's much better than the Fleetwood Mac version
I wonder who the backing band was.
It was good she said don't play it too fast
Strange I thought it was about a Welch witch?
Who else desperately wants a biopic now?
This song really illustrates the genius of Mick Fleetwood and John Mcvie.
Was Monte X the bassist?
Is that Waddie in the last few frames????
Waddie was a guitarist on their Buckingham Nicks album, and yes that is him in the pictures
Is that Waddy Wachtel at 3:19?
Yep.
the image on their LP cover is taken by a Wachtel, related?
Definitely too fast, like they were rushing through it!
dat me

Too fast, she’s also pushing the high notes, but amazing early look at classic song.
It's way better this fast, you fall asleep to the Fleetwood Mac version.
They had not yet created the coda...
I’m pretty sure she wrote this when she was in Fleetwood Mac
Sorry, but you're incorrect. Stevie did not join Fleetwood Mac until 1975... this was performed on the Poco tour in 1974 with Buckingham/Nicks.
So he plays it too fast lol.
How was she and Lindsey in Alabama? I mean then they were so poor, I thought they didn't have money to buy new clothes, and they were living in San Francisco so what????
