So the dealership told me it would cost ~$200 to replace this cooler but they also called me later that day to let me know that the ~$200 cooler would damage my transmission because its not made by mitsubishi. They called again to ask if i can come in to pay for the $800 cooler & i said no. glad i found this video!
Very good video, I just bought my daughter a 2013 Outlander Sport and looks like it has one of those coolers. That's a good thing because these CVTs a very weak compared to a standard transmission, they need all the help they can get. I added an after marked cooler to my 2013 Altima Coupe along with drain and fill the fluid and so far so good.
$850?? I found one online for $100 lol, that's proof that stealerships are a scam. I took my Lancer to change my oil once and they called me telling me I need to clean my throttle body. I told them I had it done a month before, and they told me that maybe I didn't do it properly. THEY were the ones that did it a month before. Absolute scam. Anyway, rant over. Thanks for this video!
Ok it's funny that someone liked this comment while my group chat was talking about scammy dealerships. My friend was told her Hyundai Elantra needed a new cabin air filter, after 22k miles, and that it's gonna cost her $80. Thankfully we all told her no, because it's really just $20 and a one minute job. Amazing how badly they try to get money out of people.
Thanks for this video.. I got a quote for a new cooler = $790 + 2 new lines $60 each + 3hours of labor over at Ammco Transmission over here in Toronto Canada. Total bill would have been around $1300
Benjamin Stone I just filled the transmission with fluid then started it up. The amount of fluid that gets pumped through there would take about 5 seconds to fill it up. After a few minutes there was no signs of air in the fluid or by the sound of the pump.
i have 2017 lancer GTS AWC (Canadian car) i dont have this cvt oil cooler . Why some lancer has this oil cooler and the newer once donot come with this oil cooler , anyone knows why ?
Kendor Farms. I am trying to figure it out...they are big and are really easy to see just by opening the hood is on the small line that goes to the top of the radiator in front of the cap... I am trying to find out if the car really need that because on mine 2008 is there and the 2010 i believe and up doesn't show any of that on the diagram.... Some people i talked say it woukd be bad running the car without that... Bad i still have my doubt i believe it could be bypass .
I recently bought an 09 Lancer DE. On longer drives (about an hour +) I'll get the slow down message. I changed the tranny fluid a little bit ago but I'm still having the problem. Do you think it'll be better to swap out to a GTS cooler? Just wondering
@@187Doug You need to replace the CVT oil and the 2 oil filters, there is a typical one and there is another right in the front its exactly like a little oil filter. www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-OEM-Mitsubishi-CVT-Transmission-Oil-Cooler-Filter-with-O-Ring-/382249708229
+MMICONS I used a Mitsubishi J4 (J1) CVT Transmission Fluid equivalent rather then buying from the dealer. It was hard to find, but found it at our local Canadian Tire.
That could means your transmission fluid pressure is low Check the level Also have you changed the fluid ? Did you change both Filters ? There are two One in the transmission pan And one which is a paper cartridge that must be changed There are videos on how to do it.
Replacing the cooler fixed it... not sure if either it was plugging up or because it was leaking on me and I never noticed, and perhaps it was low on fluid cause the pump to make noise. Ever since the whining noise has gone away
Kendor Farms awesome. I’m contacting dealers tomorrow. They said they were able to fix this issue as it was a known problem. I have a 2013 outlander and I don’t think they installed a trans cooler
I'm having serious issue with my tranny it gives me the "slow down" notification when I'm going up my freeway like climbing I lose power is the cooler the issue ? please help
Anthony Holiday Could be a plugged cooler, but I'd take it to the dealer and have them diagnose it. That shouldn't cost much if anything at all, then you'll know what direction to head in.
Thanks a lot !! I do really appreciate it ! , I have another silly question ... where do you pour the new CVT Cooler fluid into ? like is there a little place to fill that transmission cooler fluid ? or is just the CVT Fluid the regular one that you put in the CVT ?
Yo I bough a cooler for my transmission looks pretty much the same as urs and all that But mine does not come With one by factory the thing is I dont know how to instal it cuz I dont know the lines I can send you a video of mine when I remove My battery you can see the lines going somewhere also my radiators looks as if it have a line going into it
The Random Gamer yep, you got it! There will be a small amount in the lines and cooler itself, but the transmission pump would need to be running to loose it all from out of the transmission.
Thank you for the video. It help me replace my cooler in 2010 lancer GTS. My dealer wanted $780. Fix it my self for less than $100. Thanks again :-)

SimpleCircuits That’s a very common statement from a stealership. Really glad it helped you out! This item is way over priced from them.
Thanks for video. It helps me to find the leak on my RVR GT 2012. I got CVT cooler from Amazon for C$80! Thank you so much

This is awesome man, thank you for sharing this with us!!!
+martmelee You’re welcome! Glad it helped, thanks for Watching!!
Thank you I'm upgrading my lancer. Bought all oem parts but didn't know how to mount it. 👍
thanks man just what i was looking for, my wife lancer started to leak at the same place so now i need to do the same job to it.
Thank you I’m currently doing this to mine !!!

Pretty much the same deal at the dealership here in Peterborough
What's the best place to purchase some cross drilled/slotted rotors and brake pads?
I’d say RockAuto
How do you insure Air doesn’t get into the system? Do you have to bleed it somehow or prefill the oil cooler?
Benjamin Stone I just filled the transmission with fluid then started it up. The amount of fluid that gets pumped through there would take about 5 seconds to fill it up. After a few minutes there was no signs of air in the fluid or by the sound of the pump.

Very good video... Congratulations!
Quick question which hose goes where?
I don't think I remember that part, just put them back the same way they came off. You might be able to tell just by their shape or length
Do you know where the Auxiliary transmission filter is? It's a little cylindrical shaped filter.
This car didn’t have one, I think only the higher performance lancers may have an external or different year
@@KendorFarms is it not located under the battery?
@@KendorFarms I looked into it further and I found it. My lancer GTS is an 08, should have one. Yours should too
@@NewRUclipsPg Good instruction I actually ended up finding it and changed it a bit after I posted this comment 8 months ago
It's under the battery. Where the stock oil cooler is. It's under the battery every CVT lancer has one!
Are we supposed to drain the transmission fluid?
No you don't have to, it sits above any fluid level. Just what's left in the line and cooler
hi.. let me ask you.... in your car one of the lines of the transmission cooler has a thermo valve? like a filter looking?
fernando s I never noticed one when I was in there, but I also didn't look very far up the line

Does this help with overheating transmission
It could. Could be plugged internally or the fins plugged externally. It is a trans cooler
Yea cause mines is dirty it overheated going up the mountains on Saturday but hasn’t since then I was thinking my oil cooler was filthy

Good job man how long did it take you do you think this would be much the same job on a Shogun 3.2did 2001 mk 3
It probably only took an hour, but longer using the camera. If it’s in the same location then it’s surely to be close to the same
@@KendorFarms thanks man
I got the same 1200 dollar quote for my ralliart few days ago. They wanted $640 for the cooler alone, when the AMS cooler kit is 529 shipped.
Does the 2015 have this?
Yes I believe it should
I have a 2012 lancer es. At times it kinda jerks on me while driving and also it gave me the p0868 code. Could this be the oil cooler going bad?
There's a possibility it could be plugging up but a professional in person diagnosis may be necessary
That could means your transmission fluid pressure is low
Check the level
Also have you changed the fluid ?
Did you change both Filters ?
There are two
One in the transmission pan
And one which is a paper cartridge that must be changed
There are videos on how to do it.
Our trans oil cooler broke at the exact same location.. 2012 outlander.
Marc Laplante hey! Did yours show symptoms of overheating? Whining noise?
Yea whining noise big time

I believe it was the CVT
Removing the lines was the worst. I removed bolts off cooler than lines if that helps anyone!

I just bought it from rockauto
What tools do I need?
Just basic tools I believe
unplugging the hose / line wont make all the fluid com out Right?
The Random Gamer yep, you got it! There will be a small amount in the lines and cooler itself, but the transmission pump would need to be running to loose it all from out of the transmission.
How do you know how much fluid to replace what may come out?
@bonniehunt3662 the cooler probably holds about a litre and line loss. 2 litres would be safe
Salt from the road corroded it
Possibly, no big deal. It's to be expected here
