Amazing. Fixed up my 2008 Lancer. Went from a .32 amp draw to a .02. Just ripped out the Bluetooth module, not bothering to replace it, never used it anyways. My battery was dying daily. You're the best!
I've been struggling with this problem for about 4-5 years. As I drive my car almost every day, the parasitic draw was not enough to drain my battery flat, but I soon as I was away 2-3 days, I would return to a dead battery. You are a life saver.
I did a multimeter test on my 08 Lancer yesterday and I have a leak on the same fuse. I was surprised because I said how can a factory radio drain a battery. I would not have thought about Bluetooth module. So, I came here searching and thankfully found this video. I'll go pull the Bluetooth module and hope that fixes it. I don't even use it anyway. Thanks a lot. This video probably saved me a lot of time 👍 Update: It was drawing 0.27A before Bluetooth removal and now it's 0.039A, witch is normal. So, that was it. Thanks a bunch!!!
Thank you based electrical investigator!. At the start of this problem I almost bought a new battery, than identified that the audio system was draining the battery, removed the fuse and drove around with a Marshall bluetooth-speaker pressed between the windshield and dash, for the last couple of months. :D Just found my stubby screwdriver, and i feel I will be enjoying that factory Rockford Fosdale subwoofer shortly! Thank You again! And the silliest part of this whole bull***t is that I have never even once used that hands-free Bluetooth module connection/feature in my Lanca' since I bought the car brand new, back in 2009. Because the whole setup between the car and phone and the interface seemed un-intuitive.
THANK YOU! I have a 2010 Lancer ES that had to be jumped when it sat for more that 2 days, even with a new battery installed. I pulled the glove box and accessed the Bluetooth module just like you said to. It was very hot. I unplugged it and the current drain went from 0.46ma to 0.04ma. I never use the Bluetooth so I left it unplugged and now the car battery stays charged. Thank you again for this video.
When I had my lancer I also never used the Bluetooth. So when I ripped it out, I had no hard feelings about throwing it in the junk! Lol. Glad to hear that this helped you.
I isolated the parasitic draw (300ma) in my 2010 Lancer down to the radio fuse. My battery was run empty after every weekend sitting at home. Your forum post was one of the first results I found after I went searching for a fix, so I went straight to the bluetooth module, pulled it out, and the ammeter dropped right down to 10ma! As with the others, you saved me a bunch of time fiddling with everything else on the circuit. Thank you for sharing! :)
2009 Ralliart battery kept draining every other day or so, which eventually led to it dying every couple of hours when not in use. Tried this before taking it to an electrician or doing a parasitic drain test, and it has worked. Car hasn't died in over 3 days of being idle, Thank You! Note: Never even used the Bluetooth feature in my car yet somehow this was draining my battery
Be careful too with your Ralliart, I was going to buy one but they have problems with the DCSST transmission. Magnets inside the transmission fall off & render the transmission useless unless they're probably aligned and reattached. Not sure if you knew about this but it was the reason I stayed away from the ralliart.
Thank you sir!!! 2010 Lancer parasitic draw. Been baffled for a year or so, couple dead batteries. Just went to take it out, got my Infrared thermometer, 92.8 F... Car has been sitting in a garage all day and night at 59 degree F. Gotta wait and see but I think that was it. Bluetooth went out on this car like 2 years ago. Thank you.
Add my dad to the list. Bluetooth module was drawing about half an amp while it was off and locked. He doesn't use the Bluetooth anyway so just took out the unit. Thank you!
Omg you are my life saver I have an 08 VR-X lancer for the past week I have been having a massive drain could not find it even the auto elec couldn’t I’m almost certain this is my issue that and a non factory phone charger installed. I also have to add this is the best car vid I have watched Simple easy to follow love ur humour keep up the amazing videos
Thank you for this! I've had the same problem for several years, just been living with it and hooking up a battery charger each time I go too long without driving it. I knew about the lousy Bluetooth module from finding a forum post a couple of years ago, but until I saw this video I thought it was something I'd have to have a mechanic fix for me!
Thanks a lot for the video! I have the same car and having the same problems. I think this is exactly what’s wrong with my car. Will update when I know
Thank you for this video! Started experiencing a parasitic draw on my 2010 Lancer GTS this month. I've had an aftermarket deck in for over 8 years but never realized there was an external BT module and where it was located. Did the test with the IOD fuse and soon as I unplugged the BT module (it was super hot!) the multimeter reading dropped from the 480 mA to ~80 mA. Thanks again!
When you "pop that plastic rivet back in there" (5:19), you have to pop that center circle that is surrounded by the + shape, not the entire circular thing including the + shape. Only try to pop the center small circle. And yes, you definitely want a stubby screwdriver. Don't try it with a full-size screwdriver unless you want to strip the screw head.
@Dareido I've been looking in the web something similar a the problem you described, and as I seen, the problem of a bunch in here, including me. Thank you so much!!!!!
I whant to say a big thank you! I have taken to the local mitsubishi service my car 3x and they fidnt find the issue. The problem of my battery drain was the same as yours, i remooved the module *(what was warm) and this fixed it 👍👍👍👍😚
Fixed the Same issue with my 2008 GTS, handsfree stopped working i think 2 summers ago, after a while i had to jump my car every day, and got to the point where it wouldn't stay charged after a few hours. I think my battery is toast now as well, but its still under free replacement (yellow top optima ). But thank you. Should of fixed this ages ago but I get really lazy when it comes to fixing my own car.
I’m wondering if the high failure rate has to do with the proximity to the blower heater in that car. I bought my parents’ old 08 Outlander off of them back in 2014 or 2015 and drove it until 2021. In the time that I owned it, I bought and installed the Bluetooth unit that they had declined as an option when they bought it and paid the dealer to do the programming to make it work, as I had gotten accustomed to Bluetooth in my previous car by that time. Anyway my point being, in the Outlander, the module mounting point is way down in the center console directly underneath the head unit and far away from any of the heating and cooling apparatus. I don’t know the failure rate in that car, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was significantly lower on average
HOLY SH*T this was it! I spent 3 weeks chasing down this drain though the fuses. Got to the module and it was cooking. Took it out and reconnected everything. Will give it a bit and let you all know. EDIT** 2 weeks later, this was the problem! Battery was dying 2 or 3 days from a full charge. lasted two weeks with zero issues. Did not need to connect a new module or anything, just cannot use the in-car phone which is fine with me.
Dude, thank you so much! I've been dealing with this issue for several years, with two trips to the mechanic with no resolution. The worst part about my particular issue was that the battery drain was only ever severe enough to cause the car not to start when the weather was either cold, or if I didn't drive it for several days in a row. That made troubleshooting a bit more difficult, but once I found your video I pulled the bluetooth module the very same day, and now after nearly a week I've had ZERO issues. Now......can you make another video on how to get that plastic panel back into place? ;)
Dareido exactly the same problem on my 2010 lancer it would be fine during the summer as soon as winter hit the battery would be dead every 2 days. after I pulled out the Bluetooth amps went from 0.46 to 0.1 thanks a ton!!
Same issue on my 2007 lancer (probably not got the Bluetooth module). Now that it's cold, I have headlights and heating on and my battery has died on me 3 times. Jump started once, replaced the battery entirely once, replaced the alternator yesterday and it's died again.
Look for a video on how to check the fusebox for parasitic power draw using a multimeter. Since you don't think you have a bluetooth module you need to figure out what isn't shutting off when the engine isn't running.
Hooo man, thank you so much, I was ready to pay 800 dollars changing the alternator and the labor, but just one day before that, I saw this videos, u just remove the Bluetooth, ( that actually was really hot 🔥), and we'll see, but I think the problem was fixed!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Its 2022 and i just encounter this problem after owning my 2010 gts for over 5 years. Why havent mitsubishi made a recall for this yet? Battery finally stopped dieing over night after removing bluetooth module connector.
I don't have any tools but can someone tell me if this is a viable test for Bluetooth a module problem. I did not have my own woofer plugged in when I bought my 09 lancer. The Bluetooth steering wheel buttons did not work either, it came w a brand new battery btw. When I plugged the oem woofer in it somehow let me use the voice command buttons(idk why)@. Ever since that moment my battery has been dying every time I turn off.
Ok update on the lancer... it's been 2 months since I removed the bluetooth thing, and I even let the lancer site for over 1 and a half week and it started right up with no issues.... usually after a week of sitting the battery is completely dead. No more jumping it... thank you for the video help...
The fix worked for the drain issue. But should I install new module ? I have been using the fm transmitter, but the sound always distorted. Is the a point buying a new module ? Or software update ?
Should I replace battery having disconnected the bluetooth module, have been jumping it for quite a few months now? Will that have weakened the battery?
Having the same issue with my 2008 lancer. The Bluetooth stopped working around 2015 ish but never had any issues with battery drain up until the last couple months. I am thinking about removing the Bluetooth. Just wondering how complicated it is ?
One week update and no more battery drain!! Thank u soo much for this video!!! Mitsubishi should really do something about this as it seems it’s impacting a number of ppl
@@reidbourcier took me about an hour, if you don't count the time I spent catching my breath after struggling to get the module out to where I could reach the plug, and after trying unsuccessfully, several times, to unplug it!
I had the same problem on my 2009 Lancer with the BLUETOOTH MODULE ! I disconnected and everything is okay, no problem with the battery. The problem now is the radio go on but no sound coming out of the spearker or no beeping sound when I touch the icon on the screen. Do you have any idea what might be the problem? Any help will be appreciated, feeling frustrated!!
It's not even a very good Bluetooth module. It doesn't let you listen to music or podcasts or anything; literally the only thing it will do is phone calls.
One question please for whom who had experienced the same problem and disabled Bluetooth module... Do I need to remove the module, shouldnt unplugging solve the issue ?
Yes, just unplug it and leave it in the dash...the module doesn't care whether you physically remove it or leave it there unplugged...its disconnected!
No you don't have to replace it, I also didn't use the bluetooth options in either of the two lancers that I owned. Just remove it and the problem is solved!
So is the issue do to a bad Bluetooth module or just a Bluetooth module in general regarding if it's new or not.. This is a common issues surprised that they're aren't more vids
It would be due to a failing or faulty bluetooth module, they fail overtime. New units should not have this problem until years in the future. Some units though never have problems.
just unplugged my bluetooth module hopefully this is my battery drain issue, will update within the week with my results, battery has been verified good and alternator is charging battery to about 14.5v while running so i dont think its the alternator.
Jason Bourcier thanks. I did this today overall quite simple. Hardest part is taking the plastic cover off and then took a bit of time to disconnect the circuit to the Bluetooth adaptor as it’s in an awkward position within the glove box. Going to monitor over the next week or so and report back
So this method worked out for me and showed no more drainage when the car was off but now I have an issue when I start it up. It has a rough idle(goes up and down @1000-1500rpms) and gives off a P0675 code. I don’t know if anyone else had this problem. All I did before doing this method was pulling out the fuses from the engine bay fuse box and the fuse panel on the drivers side to test the amps and find the culprit.
If your car is idling rough and has that code, I read online that most often it's usually a faulty fuse, not often the glow plug itself. However that could be the issue. I would also change your sparkplugs too if they haven't been changed in a while, new spark plugs will help with idle, smooth combustion & gas mileage efficiency. If you find out your problem, post your solution so others can learn from you.
Hi to all. Any one knows where you can find a new Bluetooth module for the Mitsubishi Lancer 2009. The problem with the battery drainage now is solved but we have to solve the Bluetooth system problem now.
If replacing it, would I need another OEM module or can I switch to a different module? And if I switch to a different module, what else would I need to replace too, if any?
I wouldn't know, if you used the OEM it would work again but may have the potential to fail again. You might be able to make an aftermarket unit work but I don't know how to do that
It doesn't change anything in your daily drive unless if you're using the bluetooth options on the steering wheel. It's used for hands free talking with people. Removing it will stop a battery drain which occurs in 2/3 of Mitsubishi lancers.
Holy crap I just yanked this piece of junk outta my dash it was hot! Cars been sitting outside its -20 out for 3 hours, I've had to boost my car for 2 weeks almost every morning if this is what was causing it I'll be stoked to no longer have to boost my car on a brand new battery(that I intend on exchanging now cause some cells are likely wrecked) ha ha thank you for the great video!
Woke up this morning car started! Pretty sure I still need to swap my battery though as its only 2 weeks old maybe 3 tops and it's been killed stone dead 4 times in -10 to -20 I'm assuming that will have damaged some cells in it.
I thought when you turned off the ignition switch it turns off the radio and everything else including that Bluetooth module .... mine has failed too btw .. I've got a 2010 Lancer VRX
Well theoretically yes it would turn everything else off, but if the bluetooth module fails it will continue to drain power even after the car is turned off
wow this video is great. I recently bought a used lancer sportback and have been going through hell trying to figure out why the Bluetooth wasn't working. I ended up getting a used module on Ebay and it was super hot as soon as I plugged it up. Could it be something else wrong with the car or did I just end up with another bad module?
@@gundamxzero3 My dad and I removed it and did not replace it. I never used the Bluetooth handsfree calling feature anyways. It's entirely up to you if you want to replace it, I just figure it wasn't worth the headache.
@@reidbourcier ok. I use it a lot on my lancer evolution and wanted it on my lancer as well but it seems that the modules for the lancer are not that great. I will look into other options.
So what would happen if I just completely removed the Bluetooth module? Will it affect connecting my phone to play music through Bluetooth or would it only affect phone calls only? Thanks
That I'm not sure of, I thought that the bluetooth module only handled hands free calling. I'm assuming if you remove the entire unit you'll resolve the battery drain but you will lose your bluetooth features.
@@Its_about_that_time I understand, I've had two lancers with the same issue. I wish you the best of luck :) also if you want to play music there is a method to use Aux cables
@@Its_about_that_time I never replaced it, I figured since that the failure rate is very high it wouldn't be worth it to reinstall it. I also never used handsfree features so I didn't need it. If you can't find a unit online or at the dealership try looking in a scrapyard, you can definitely find one there and for cheap too.
Hey so i brought a 2008 Mitsubishi lancer GTS. When i brought it i was notified of this issue. The guy said it dies if i let it sit for 2 days. I didnt even know the car had bluetooth.. lol Is this the problem? He sold it to me for $500 less because of this😭
Just removed it. Wasn't working anyways and ever since it broke, I have been having a power issue. Hopefully this worked. Will update in a couple weeks

Listen, THANK YOU so much. I bought a lancer es 2009 back in february and it seem to run fine for a couple days. Suddenly, my battery died. So i assumed i just needed a new battery. I bought a new battery and couple weeks later... again it died. I took to a mechanic who did an "electrical test" and found out that my alternator was fine but my battery was low/dead (telling me that the original bought battery was dead); so they replaced my battery. A couple weeks pass and then my battery died when i got off work. I was so upset so I called the mechanic again and they were telling about a "parasitic". So im thinking what!? whats that? so i looked up on google/youtube and found out this video about the same symptoms i was having on the SAME lancer. I did what you did on the video and YES my bluetooth device was scorching HOT and most likely the reason why my battery has been draining too.
Hey, I got the same model car. But it is a manual, and although there is a bluetooth button, there is no bluetooth when I purchased it. Was your car a manual as well? Sorry I really don't know much about car, and have changed the battery twice since I purchased the car only last month! :(
Forgot one thing. If you drop a screw and it lands in the pan under the glove box, as soon as you reach for it, you will unplug the blower. haha. One more panel to remove underneath.
Temporary fix for people who don’t have time, want to delay, or don’t want to get handsy; (Its worked for me, don’t know if it will work for anyone else) Turn the inside temp to a very low temperature (64F/65F) and set the temp speed to at least half. The bluetooth module can still work after overheating, but is very liable to kill the car’s battery charge again. Since the AC piping is metal, and runs close to the module and blower motor, the cold air running through the pipe can emit enough coldness that it keeps the Bluetooth module at bay. The most important thing is to park in shade, away from direct sunlight, or where it’s not hot enough to overheat the module.
Otherwise, the most definite solution is to take the module itself off, as the video states. Edit: Since I primarily use Bluetooth for audio, I’m going to try methods such as heat reflective tape on or around the module. I’ll re-edit this comment if the method does or does not work.
Someone give this Man a Medal ! He save us so much time and dedication! God bless this Man!

yes i was told its the same prob .ill just fix that later on i just want it to run .
yes it would.
does it apply to my 2012 also?
Its 2022 and i just encounter this problem after owning my 2010 gts for over 5 years. Why havent mitsubishi made a recall for this yet? Battery finally stopped dieing over night after removing bluetooth module connector.
Jan 2021. Add me to the list. Had the same issue, pulled the Bluetooth module and no more drain. Thanks for the vid. Saved me some money!
Cheers man! Glad me and my father could help you out!
Omg! Thank you so much, my Bluetooth module was smoking hot. I'm hoping this fixes my issue.
sk3tchbox Should be! That's exactly how mine was too.
Thanks your post helped me .been trying for ages ..new module 👍👍👍
I don't have any tools but can someone tell me if this is a viable test for Bluetooth a module problem.
I did not have my own woofer plugged in when I bought my 09 lancer. The Bluetooth steering wheel buttons did not work either, it came w a brand new battery btw. When I plugged the oem woofer in it somehow let me use the voice command buttons(idk why)@. Ever since that moment my battery has been dying every time I turn off.
Thank you! I'm gonna look into my lancer and see if that's the issue to my car
So does the radio work after unplugging the modular
Should I replace battery having disconnected the bluetooth module, have been jumping it for quite a few months now? Will that have weakened the battery?
Thank you so much! Had the same issue! Saved me hours
You're welcome! Have a nice weekend
Having the same issue with my 2008 lancer. The Bluetooth stopped working around 2015 ish but never had any issues with battery drain up until the last couple months. I am thinking about removing the Bluetooth. Just wondering how complicated it is ?
Not very complicated, you should be able to do this within a couple hours.
Are you going to put back the fuse so i can use the radio
I had the same problem on my 2009 Lancer with the BLUETOOTH MODULE ! I disconnected and everything is okay, no problem with the battery. The problem now is the radio go on but no sound coming out of the spearker or no beeping sound when I touch the icon on the screen. Do you have any idea what might be the problem? Any help will be appreciated, feeling frustrated!!
Would the parasitic draw cause the abs light to come on and of on start up?
Thanks buddy appreciate this. This is what I think I need! Didnt know mine had bluetooth either.
It's not even a very good Bluetooth module. It doesn't let you listen to music or podcasts or anything; literally the only thing it will do is phone calls.
Hi, nice job man, i have the same problem ;) to a lancer sportback of 2010
One question please for whom who had experienced the same problem and disabled Bluetooth module... Do I need to remove the module, shouldnt unplugging solve the issue ?
Yes, just unplug it and leave it in the dash...the module doesn't care whether you physically remove it or leave it there unplugged...its disconnected!
Thank-you @@jasonbourcier7135
If this removal, need another one new?
I don't use Bluetooth mode in my lancer gts 2010, don't like in this car.
I have this problem, drain battery...
No you don't have to replace it, I also didn't use the bluetooth options in either of the two lancers that I owned. Just remove it and the problem is solved!
@@reidbourcier Thanks!! 😊
@@Crystysys no problem! Have a good weekend
The bluetooth module has only the handsfree function?
Also question. Couldn’t you just disconnect the Bluetooth module? Do u have to take it out the car ?
Yes, it doesn't have to be removed, just as long as the circuit is disconnected.
Jason Bourcier thanks. I did this today overall quite simple. Hardest part is taking the plastic cover off and then took a bit of time to disconnect the circuit to the Bluetooth adaptor as it’s in an awkward position within the glove box. Going to monitor over the next week or so and report back
My 2016 lancer es sport’s Bluetooth doesn’t show up anymore, the option to connect or the voice command system has disappeared… Help
what does that bluetooth module do anyways ???
@@reidbourcier For sure thanks for the quick response, I will keep you updated on how it goes.
Found out the problem, when I was taking out fuses to test them I had accidentally put the #8 fuse in the wrong slot haha. Thanks for the help!
@@Gabriel-tb3mk all good friend! Happy driving
thank you very much, i was going crazy
Hi to all.
Any one knows where you can find a new Bluetooth module for the Mitsubishi Lancer 2009.
The problem with the battery drainage now is solved but we have to solve the Bluetooth system problem now.
I'm also having the same problem. fellowing
Good to know. Thanks for uploading this.
If replacing it, would I need another OEM module or can I switch to a different module? And if I switch to a different module, what else would I need to replace too, if any?
I wouldn't know, if you used the OEM it would work again but may have the potential to fail again. You might be able to make an aftermarket unit work but I don't know how to do that
My 09 lancer es doesn’t have the Bluetooth module. What else can be draining my battery?
That I wouldn't be sure, I never had any other drains other than my bluetooth module. Sorry
What will removing the Bluetooth module disable? Thought about replacing but it’s $450 for a new one. Thanks
It doesn't change anything in your daily drive unless if you're using the bluetooth options on the steering wheel. It's used for hands free talking with people. Removing it will stop a battery drain which occurs in 2/3 of Mitsubishi lancers.
Dareido I think this is what’s causing my drain! Thanks a lot!
@@wyattsnow4923 don't mention it friend! Best of luck with your Mitsu!
Dareido how does the module disconnect? Can’t seem to get it unplugged
Dareido finally got it lol. Thanks!
Can u tell me if it apply to a 2012 also?
Most likely
I've got the same issue but my audio stopped working for my radio and the battery drains over a day or so of not driving.
Have the same current but dont have the module bluetooht
Probably someones broken module!
@@reidbourcier thanks for the quick reply. Is it even worth getting a new one? It doesn't seem like they last long.
@@gundamxzero3 You got an Evolution? I'm jealous! Lol
OK I will try it this weekend. I really appreciate you posting this video. This issue has been a real pain every couple of days the car would die.
@@Its_about_that_time I understand, I've had two lancers with the same issue. I wish you the best of luck :) also if you want to play music there is a method to use Aux cables
One more question. Where did you purchase the module and how much. Every site is saying discontinued. Thanks
I didnt even know the car had bluetooth.. lol
Is this the problem? He sold it to me for $500 less because of this😭
Most likely
Thank you. So helpful, because i didnt even think the car had bluetooth😂 it didnt say it on the screen
Have been looking through the internet pf how to solve this issue and none of them works i gotta try this one.
Thanks for this i just fixed mine today and im so happy about it.
This saved me big time, thank you!
Just removed it. Wasn't working anyways and ever since it broke, I have been having a power issue. Hopefully this worked. Will update in a couple weeks
Mine was NOT hot when I removed it. However, AAA was out just 30 min earlier to jumpstart my car so it prob didn't have time
@@jessed9145 mine was barely warm when I removed it, but that's probably because my battery was already drained down to 5.5v at the time!
@Dan Henderson UPDATE: after removal, I never had a power drain issue again. Sucks because I really miss that feature
Thanks for the video 👍 it helped me a lot

+Pikaception Also you saved me some money. thanks again
Glad we could help man! : ]
Temporary fix for people who don’t have time, want to delay, or don’t want to get handsy;
(Its worked for me, don’t know if it will work for anyone else)
Turn the inside temp to a very low temperature (64F/65F) and set the temp speed to at least half.
Thank you !
Thx a lot! Have fix it
Just removed mine... it was also hot hopefully fixes my issue.. gets old jumping your car all the time.
Thanks
