★MITSUBISHI LANCER 2009 ★ PARASITIC ELECTRICAL BATTERY DRAW FROM BLUETOOTH MODULE ★
Просмотров 44 тыс.8 лет назад
We recently observed a consistent pattern of battery drain on a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer "ES" it started draining a fully charged battery every 3-4 days. We had NO idea what the cause was. We connected an ammeter to the negative side of the battery in hopes of isolating the drain. We were successful in solving this dilemma, so please watch the video for further details. Visit my forum page at: ww...
Thank you man, I had this problem for at least a year... The days of battery-anxiety are finally over!
The fix worked for the drain issue. But should I install new module ? I have been using the fm transmitter, but the sound always distorted. Is the a point buying a new module ? Or software update ?
So does the radio work after unplugging the modular
Should I replace battery having disconnected the bluetooth module, have been jumping it for quite a few months now? Will that have weakened the battery?
Thank you sir!!! 2010 Lancer parasitic draw. Been baffled for a year or so, couple dead batteries. Just went to take it out, got my Infrared thermometer, 92.8 F... Car has been sitting in a garage all day and night at 59 degree F. Gotta wait and see but I think that was it. Bluetooth went out on this car like 2 years ago. Thank you.
LIFE SAVER! Never thought of trying this. By touch it was so so hot
I’m wondering if the high failure rate has to do with the proximity to the blower heater in that car. I bought my parents’ old 08 Outlander off of them back in 2014 or 2015 and drove it until 2021. In the time that I owned it, I bought and installed the Bluetooth unit that they had declined as an option when they bought it and paid the dealer to do the programming to make it work, as I had gotten accustomed to Bluetooth in my previous car by that time. Anyway my point being, in the Outlander, the module mounting point is way down in the center console directly underneath the head unit and far away from any of the heating and cooling apparatus. I don’t know the failure rate in that car, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was significantly lower on average
Thank you so much for making my life easy without doing hardly any diagnosis, it was my module
😂 thanks allot you save me from a lot ran ant money 💰
Masterpiece.
Thank you based electrical investigator!. At the start of this problem I almost bought a new battery, than identified that the audio system was draining the battery, removed the fuse and drove around with a Marshall bluetooth-speaker pressed between the windshield and dash, for the last couple of months. :D Just found my stubby screwdriver, and i feel I will be enjoying that factory Rockford Fosdale subwoofer shortly! Thank You again! And the silliest part of this whole bull***t is that I have never even once used that hands-free Bluetooth module connection/feature in my Lanca' since I bought the car brand new, back in 2009. Because the whole setup between the car and phone and the interface seemed un-intuitive.
Yeah same, I never used mine either!
One question please for whom who had experienced the same problem and disabled Bluetooth module... Do I need to remove the module, shouldnt unplugging solve the issue ?
Yes, just unplug it and leave it in the dash...the module doesn't care whether you physically remove it or leave it there unplugged...its disconnected!
Thank-you @@jasonbourcier7135
Thanks
you the man
Yep, thank you so much! Same problem with Lancer GTS 2015.
Nice
🔥
china funny
Thanks. Mitsubishi have a werrrrry big problems with BT module.
Are you going to put back the fuse so i can use the radio
Thank you for this! I've had the same problem for several years, just been living with it and hooking up a battery charger each time I go too long without driving it. I knew about the lousy Bluetooth module from finding a forum post a couple of years ago, but until I saw this video I thought it was something I'd have to have a mechanic fix for me!
Add my dad to the list. Bluetooth module was drawing about half an amp while it was off and locked. He doesn't use the Bluetooth anyway so just took out the unit. Thank you!
Didn't fix mine
Have the same current but dont have the module bluetooht
Its 2022 and i just encounter this problem after owning my 2010 gts for over 5 years. Why havent mitsubishi made a recall for this yet? Battery finally stopped dieing over night after removing bluetooth module connector.
My 2016 lancer es sport’s Bluetooth doesn’t show up anymore, the option to connect or the voice command system has disappeared… Help
Would the parasitic draw cause the abs light to come on and of on start up?
When you "pop that plastic rivet back in there" (5:19), you have to pop that center circle that is surrounded by the + shape, not the entire circular thing including the + shape. Only try to pop the center small circle. And yes, you definitely want a stubby screwdriver. Don't try it with a full-size screwdriver unless you want to strip the screw head.
I just pulled mine out today. Great video!
Great job brother
Big thanks my guy. As I was watching this my dad narrowed it down to the fuse 7 haha. Was magnificent timing
I had the same problem on my 2009 Lancer with the BLUETOOTH MODULE ! I disconnected and everything is okay, no problem with the battery. The problem now is the radio go on but no sound coming out of the spearker or no beeping sound when I touch the icon on the screen. Do you have any idea what might be the problem? Any help will be appreciated, feeling frustrated!!
Hi, nice job man, i have the same problem ;) to a lancer sportback of 2010
Thanks very much! My module was indeed hot and the car has been off for several hours. Removed the module hopefully it resolves my drain.
And if you just remove the module did that fix your car?
Thank you !
Omg you are my life saver I have an 08 VR-X lancer for the past week I have been having a massive drain could not find it even the auto elec couldn’t I’m almost certain this is my issue that and a non factory phone charger installed. I also have to add this is the best car vid I have watched Simple easy to follow love ur humour keep up the amazing videos
THANK YOU! I have a 2010 Lancer ES that had to be jumped when it sat for more that 2 days, even with a new battery installed. I pulled the glove box and accessed the Bluetooth module just like you said to. It was very hot. I unplugged it and the current drain went from 0.46ma to 0.04ma. I never use the Bluetooth so I left it unplugged and now the car battery stays charged. Thank you again for this video.
When I had my lancer I also never used the Bluetooth. So when I ripped it out, I had no hard feelings about throwing it in the junk! Lol. Glad to hear that this helped you.
Thank you so much! Had the same issue! Saved me hours
You're welcome! Have a nice weekend
@Dareido I've been looking in the web something similar a the problem you described, and as I seen, the problem of a bunch in here, including me. Thank you so much!!!!!
Hey so i brought a 2008 Mitsubishi lancer GTS. When i brought it i was notified of this issue. The guy said it dies if i let it sit for 2 days. I didnt even know the car had bluetooth.. lol Is this the problem? He sold it to me for $500 less because of this😭
Most likely
Thank you. So helpful, because i didnt even think the car had bluetooth😂 it didnt say it on the screen
Thank you! This helped me a lot.
You're welcome!
wow this video is great. I recently bought a used lancer sportback and have been going through hell trying to figure out why the Bluetooth wasn't working. I ended up getting a used module on Ebay and it was super hot as soon as I plugged it up. Could it be something else wrong with the car or did I just end up with another bad module?
Probably someones broken module!
@@reidbourcier thanks for the quick reply. Is it even worth getting a new one? It doesn't seem like they last long.
@@gundamxzero3 My dad and I removed it and did not replace it. I never used the Bluetooth handsfree calling feature anyways. It's entirely up to you if you want to replace it, I just figure it wasn't worth the headache.
@@reidbourcier ok. I use it a lot on my lancer evolution and wanted it on my lancer as well but it seems that the modules for the lancer are not that great. I will look into other options.
@@gundamxzero3 You got an Evolution? I'm jealous! Lol
Jan 2021. Add me to the list. Had the same issue, pulled the Bluetooth module and no more drain. Thanks for the vid. Saved me some money!
Cheers man! Glad me and my father could help you out!
Just removed it. Wasn't working anyways and ever since it broke, I have been having a power issue. Hopefully this worked. Will update in a couple weeks
Mine was NOT hot when I removed it. However, AAA was out just 30 min earlier to jumpstart my car so it prob didn't have time
@@jessed9145 mine was barely warm when I removed it, but that's probably because my battery was already drained down to 5.5v at the time!
@Dan Henderson UPDATE: after removal, I never had a power drain issue again. Sucks because I really miss that feature
Just removed mine... it was also hot hopefully fixes my issue.. gets old jumping your car all the time.
2009 Ralliart battery kept draining every other day or so, which eventually led to it dying every couple of hours when not in use. Tried this before taking it to an electrician or doing a parasitic drain test, and it has worked. Car hasn't died in over 3 days of being idle, Thank You! Note: Never even used the Bluetooth feature in my car yet somehow this was draining my battery
Be careful too with your Ralliart, I was going to buy one but they have problems with the DCSST transmission. Magnets inside the transmission fall off & render the transmission useless unless they're probably aligned and reattached. Not sure if you knew about this but it was the reason I stayed away from the ralliart.
Thanks your post helped me .been trying for ages ..new module 👍👍👍
Thanks for the video! Solved the issue on my 08 lancer!
Temporary fix for people who don’t have time, want to delay, or don’t want to get handsy; (Its worked for me, don’t know if it will work for anyone else) Turn the inside temp to a very low temperature (64F/65F) and set the temp speed to at least half. The bluetooth module can still work after overheating, but is very liable to kill the car’s battery charge again. Since the AC piping is metal, and runs close to the module and blower motor, the cold air running through the pipe can emit enough coldness that it keeps the Bluetooth module at bay. The most important thing is to park in shade, away from direct sunlight, or where it’s not hot enough to overheat the module.
Otherwise, the most definite solution is to take the module itself off, as the video states. Edit: Since I primarily use Bluetooth for audio, I’m going to try methods such as heat reflective tape on or around the module. I’ll re-edit this comment if the method does or does not work.
If replacing it, would I need another OEM module or can I switch to a different module? And if I switch to a different module, what else would I need to replace too, if any?
I wouldn't know, if you used the OEM it would work again but may have the potential to fail again. You might be able to make an aftermarket unit work but I don't know how to do that
