I appreciate you and all the other truckers who give us CDL newbies the heads up on the trucking game. Thank you.

I'm fixing to start driving for Swift. Been in the trades but I'm moving to a new trade since I'm tired of working for peanuts. Plus I love driving and always liked semi's even as a kid.

LoL.. starting as a new driver at 53¢ per mile is a ripoff. At today's economy you shouldn't be excepting anything under 75¢ per mile. My company pays by the HR OTR with 90% medical and 100% dental. Here you start out around $25/hr plus paid per diem that comes in a separate check. I made a little over 100k after taxes last year. I drove for swift for 12yrs and I can tell you your getting ripped off. I drove as a mentor for 7. The only thing you should use swift for is to get your CDL. If they try to charge you for leaving, the supreme court ruled that truck companies can't do that because the federal government pays for their CDL program. If you live in the northwest let me know and I'll get you on with my company. They are so good to their drivers, that when I had my appendix removed. They gave me a check to cover what my insurance didn't cover. I'd like to see swift do that. I got 24yrs experience and if you'd like to connect and have give you some driving tips, hit me up. I'm in Boise quite often and usually stay at the sage in Caldwell, ID. My channel is truck'n with stinky Pete.

It's a ripoff true but for new CDL drivers it's more about the experience than the money, once you get a solid 6 months you can pretty much go anywhere you want.
I really just plan to get a decent truck with the money and go O/O, several of my friends have already done this so i'm going to follow suit.

@@ProFited87 nah got to get your experience in. Same with military you start out with private pay and get promoted off experience. As a new trucker the cost to insure you is high so the pay reflects that. After one year, no violations, speeding tickets, good record they will pay you more. 1200-1500 a week after one year. Mega carrier pay will always be trash so best to move on after one year. Their business model is based off hiring newbies and high turn over. Thats why their recruiting and helping people get CDLs is so straightline and smooth.

I completed my bachelor's degree while living in my car, I spent the better part of 5 years traveling around Latin America, and I became fluent in Spanish at 25 years of age. I am currently enrolled in an alternative teaching program to teach Spanish, but as I will be waiting a year to get into the classroom, I've decided to get my CDL. A company will be paying for my training and I will be creating videos during the process and sharing as much as I can for everyone else out there interested in driving! I begin on the 31st, so feel free to connect with me regarding anything! Take care.

Now that you’re in Boise, Idaho, don’t forget there is no Z in Boise. The proper way to pronounce it and not give yourself away immediately that you’re a newbie in the area is Boy-C or Boy-See. Nowhere in the English language does anyone ever teach the S and Z have interchangeable sounds. It’s always taught that S and C have interchangeable sounds.
