- Welcome to the thirty-first episode in the series of Villa Aroldi - An Italian House Restoration.
Join us on an exciting journey as we achieve major milestones in our stables!
In this video, we're thrilled to announce that we finally have electricity and water connected to the stables, marking a significant accomplishment in our renovation project. But that's not all - we also had a special visitor from Sweden, as our friend joined us on this adventure. We took a break from our work to explore the stunning cities of Florence and Pisa, immersing ourselves in their rich history and iconic landmarks.
Please LIKE THIS VIDEO if you enjoy it & SUBSCRIBE if you want to follow our journey as we bring this Villa back to life!
By no means feel obliged, but we would be very happy if you would like to support our channel with a Coffee or at Patreon.

Ηελλο, guys! this is Chryssanthee from Halkidiki, Greece. What about a trim ? down to the floor? why bother cut all the plasterbords? after the floor, add a beautifull trim and u r done? ;love your place!
Hi, thank you!!
Yes a trim would have been the obvious choice if it weren't for the fact that we are doing ventilated walls so we need an air gap both at the floor and ceiling level.
All will be clear once we are finished decorating the gym in the future.
Thank you for watching!
Love the bathroom tiles. Very productive week. Thank you for sharing footage of those beautiful destinations. 🌷
Thank you!
Miło że już jesteś jak ten czas leci i znów kawał roboty za Tobą filmik nie był wcale długi a i dziękuję za wycieczkę ....też chodziłam po tych uliczkach WŁOCHY są piękne
Im glad you liked it Magda!
Wow! This has been so worth the wait! Great progress. Now you can at least have cold water or any other cold drink readily at hand.
Also, thanks for the footage from your trip to Florence and Pisa! So much of the world I'd love to see, but probably won't be able. Seeing a personal video like yours is so much better than travelogues or promotional material.
Yes it's been long overdue! There are so many types of jobs where you actually need water sometimes plus it's nice to be able to wash of a bit and so on.
Yes, and there are so so many more places to see in Italy and I plan to film a lot more of them. Glad you liked it!
Where are you and the dogs 🐶 ??? Come back soon, miss you
Dove siete tu e i cani 🐶 ??? Torna presto, mi manchi
Soon back!
We have a video I just haven’t had a the time to edit it but I will very shortly. We have just been very busy lately.
@@VillaAroldi Thank God they are fine. I'm happy for that. Hugs and good health to you.
@@marzia722 Same to you!
I love Firenze❤️ So thanks for taking us along. Also enjoyed the new music you added.
Im glad you liked it!
Yes it's beautiful, just way too many tourists.
Welcome back! Nice progress, love the white mosaic tile. How about 12,058 little tiles ...no idea😊 Outdoor shower...great use
of new plumbing for that. Loved the tour of Florence and Pisa not to mention the Fiat gathering...oh, I want one! Love from Phoenix Arizona where we are in the 90sF...and triple digits.. 🎶🎵🎶❤🏜️
Thank you Jody!
Yes, Arizona is warm, I were there a couple of years ago, 90 is a normal day there, haha.
Glad you are continuing to forge ahead despite the occasional hiccup. Footage of your travels was beautiful! You must have caught some of the “Golden Hour” by the looks of it. Thanks for including that!
Thank you Gloria! Im glad you liked it.
How do you secure the stables at night when you aren't there? It looks like its wide open. Also, breathtaking video of Florence. Thank-you for sharing that.
Unfortunately we cant and that's a discussion we have had with our windows company that were supposed to deliver in January...
I am glad you liked it John!
I wasn’t expecting a combination tiling/strip show! 😂
😂 too warm to work here, that's why my working clothes has changed into swimwear.
@@VillaAroldi that works for us ladies 😊
Great progress. Good work done. Thank you for sharing from Australia.
Thank you for watching Veronica!
We haven’t heard from you in 2 weeks, hope you are both well.
All is well thank you! Just been very busy lately!
Good to hear. Look forward to a vlog in the near future.
@@pariisabella5521 Yes, coming soon!
Hello from Los Angeles, just came across your channel. Love the doggies ❤️🐶 beautiful home! Where in Italy is it? It’s my dream to move to countryside one day. Thank you and good luck!!
Thank you for watching all the way from LA!
The house is situated outside of Parma.
Do you think Jimmy is being challenging because Anna is away. He seems to stay close to her when she’s at home
Wonderful episode. Thank you
@@elaineayres1989 Haha, he do prefer her over me but he is always challenging 😂
Why is the slab not level they should have laid it level, also just put a skirting board to cover the gap and it will look all even and clean and protect the bottom of the plaster, also next time purchase 3.6x1.2 plater boards and run then horizontally - make an easier and better job, just trying to help cheers from Melbourne Australia and keep punching great progress.😊
Thank you for your advice! Finding any sort of boards other than standard here in italy is very difficult as they are very seldom used.
You are making great progress! And thanks very much for the extra footage of beautiful Firenze and of the Fiat 500s.
Im glad you liked it Steven!
Hey Henrick and Anna, We’ve not seen an update from you for a while just wanted to say i hope all is well with you both and the family, and the doggo's! Looking forward to an update. Take care. X
Yes, we are very sorry!
We will soon be back, just been very busy lately and no time to edit 🤯
Grout does not fix misaligned tiles. Recommend you use edge track in the future so you can align the tiles. My eye will pick up that mistake every time I go into that room. Also, bigger tiles mean less grout, with less opportunity for molding, or water penetration.
Not sure exactly what an edge track is but I haven't seen anyone ever using any sort of "crosses" etc when putting up mosaic tiles as you do use when you put up normal tiles of bigger sizes and there are basically no tiles at all that are water proof but yes, less grout is always better if you are worried about mold, I am not though, I have never had a moldy bathroom apart from Italy and UK where they don't use the same kind of damp proofing as I am used to.
But thanks for the advice, I probably won't ever tile mosaic ever again though apart from maybe in a pool as I am usually not a huge fan of it, just did it to try once. 🙏🏼
Your fridge looks to close to the wall. It will be hard to open to get things out. Sadly I speak from experience. Great progress
Thank you Linda, we are slowly getting there!
Fridge works fine actually, and as with everything in the stables, it will rarely be used, it's not going to be our main kitchen but just a reserve to be able to do minor things when cooking outside.
Great progress. You have been very committed and persevering on this restoration. Great work! Thanks for the video!
Thank you Michael!
36 tiles of 15x15 mosaics, so 8100 small mosaics... I'd say
That's a great guess, ill reveal the correct answer soon!
Getting things done! Perhaps now you should also change Jimmy's name to Houdini.
Haha yes, always escaping!
Following you and your work on your villa. Thank you for the footage of Firenze. You had one of the best shots of the hotel we stayed in while there. From Plaza Michelangelo across the Arno, the building right in front of that church with the tower was our hotel. Such incredible beauty from that Plaza!
That is a great location!
I hope you liked it, for me Florence is a bit too crowded with tourists, it takes away some of the beauty.
I withdraw from the competition . You intended to guess. I used screen shot to count . That is not fair to you and the other candidates . regards Michel.
Haha don't worry about it, I am sure others have counted too 😂
I hope to come to Italy someday as I am Italian living in USA for two generations.
Yes do it!
Since you're so tall I'm curious why you didn't tile right up to the ceiling where painting is rather useless?
Well, It's rarely going to get used as it will most likely just be used as a toilet in the future but 2m should be enough, I have never had issues before with showers being too low and I am pretty done with tiling to be fair 😂
you did not put tiles high enough around the shower, the wall above the tiles will be wet. damage
I think I will be fine, the tiles themself are not what is protecting the wall but the damp proofing which is the blue paint I put fairly high up on the wall. 🙏🏼
are you putting in an extractor over the hob and oven? if so cut out the hole now before you put in all the nice finishes, saves on the cleaning
We will most likely just use a carbon filter and circulate the air, it's not a kitchen which is gonna get a lot of use, especially not for anything else than maybe boil things in the future as we will most likely only use the kitchen when we are at the outdoor kitchen.
Florence looks amazing. Thank you for sharing x
It's great, just too many tourists unfortunately.
Hello im from belgium i think there are 86 tiles in the bathroom . Greats
Hi Dylan, another guess? 😂 No problem! Ill let you guys know the right answer soon!
Hello, I've been following you since the first videos... I too, like you, live in Italy and I wonder if it was possible to activate the subtitles in Italian to make speeches clearer for those who are not fluent in English.
Congratulations on your Villa, a really nice project.
Greetings from Cagliari ,Sardinia.
Thank you for watching and thank you for your very kind words!
Yes it should be possible, I know that some viewers use Italian subtitles, it's somewhere in your settings.
@@VillaAroldi I think you have to activate them somehow.
In the settings, subtitles (automatically generated) are available exclusively in English.
Thank you
@@toniomulas5656 Yes and that's all I can do, what you then do is click that you want subtitles and have them auto-translated to the language you want.
Have missed your vlogs for the last 2 weeks hope all is well.
All well, there will be another episode very soon!
Just been very busy lately.
Where is Anna?
She is in Sweden, back here in a week!
I'm guessing 540 tiles
Noted, I will reveal the correct answer shortly.
That looks like the Piazza Michelangelo stairs view point. Firenze è bellísima. Wow, everything is coming together, you can kind of see how you had planned it out. Very nice. I think, you used about 25-30 sheets of mosaic tiles and each sheet probably has about 50 so between 1250-1500. 🤔My guess will be 1500.
Yes that's the viewpoint!
We are slowly getting there, I just wish I could work in the Villa instead.
Thank you for guess, ill let you guys know soon!
I have had company for 10 days and now I’m catching up with all your progress! Things are progressing and looking good! The heat can be a killer! Be sure and stay hydrated! Where is Anna? I’m glad you got to visit the beautiful cities because I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful buildings, sculptures and views!
Thank you!
She was in Sweden for a bit but is back now.
Im glad you enjoyed the trip, there will be more of those in the future.
oh my gosh- I have owned two Fiat's- never again! glad to see your area was not involved in the flooding. You ought to get that cold plunge pool going! coool off! I would say 29.5 tiles. Time for a weed whacker- good job for Anna! You should ask your Pop nicely to come and help you again! The tourism in Italy is crazy.
Haha, I really want one!
I ment individual small pieces, Ill let you guess again 😉
Weed whacking is actually quite heavy work, especially at the height it's at now. Unfortunately he won't come until the ned of summer, it's too warm for him right now to help out here.
Yes, some cities in Italy are over crowded with tourists, but most are totally fine. I'd say Venice, Florence and Rome are the worst in that order.
The barn is coming along great. If I had more time on my trip I would love to have helped you on the plastering. My guess is 8092 tiles.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Yes, it's getting there but it's been going slow and I really want to get started with the villa instead.
That is a great guess, there are a few who had said that!
Looking good!
The building work is also progressing well👍
My guess is 2,875
Thank you!
I will let everyone know shortly who is right.
6732 mosaic tiles
Congrats on having power And water!
Noted!
Thank you, finally!
Project is looking great - so satisfying for you to stand back and look at what has been achieved. Loved seeing the sites of such a beautiful and historical country. A mosaic guess would be 5,680!
Thank you Sandra!
Noted, Ill let everyone know soon what the correct answer is.
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Great job so far!! Loved the Firenze and Pisa tour at the end. My guess is 6742 tiles.
Im glad you liked it!
Will soon let everyone know who has won, if anyone 😂
The grout concealed all the cracks between the tile sheets, and it looks fine to me! I've noticed several times that your dogs like being on the upper floor and looking down as you work! That's what I would do. ;-)
Yes it's much better now when it's grouted.
Haha yes me 2! It's a great place for them to stay out of the heat and get a good visual over the fields, plus there are loads of sticks for them to chew on up there, haha.
74 tiles ? Greats
Thank you for guessing!
Cool little car!
It really is!
Like a few people I was relieved to hear a different background music.
Haha, Im glad you liked it!
Florence looked absolutely beautiful: gorgeous light. The sheer amount of marble on the cathedral is absolutely staggering!
Great progress on the house, it can't be easy to work in such heat.
Yes it's a beautiful place, just SO many tourists.
Thank you, it's been very slow with work the past few days, hard to find motivation when it's so warm.
You know when you are making progress, everything you do form now on makes a huge impact. Great idea for the water lol.
Thank you 🙏🏼 feels like we are not going anywhere at the moment though. All I want to do is start work on the Villa
8092 tiles 😊
That's a great guess, ill reveal the correct answer soon!
8640 tiles.
Thank you for guessing! Ill let you guys know soon.
Congratulations 🎉
The project is in full swing now!!
As a designer, if I may offer a suggestion????
Please strongly consider tiling up to the ceiling in both walls. The reason I suggest this is because with the angles of the ceiling, having the tile stop short of going all the way up creates another line. The horizontal lines where the tile ends just adds another line and can make the corner seem unnecessarily complicated to the eye as opposed to just tiling right up to the ceiling on both walls minimizing the look of the angles, the tiles and the frame of the shower stall.
As well, it will bring your eyes up to the ceiling in a good way and give a sense of the true height of the room as the corner will be your focal point and the first thing you see as you enter the space. It can be a very attractive way to expand the dimensions by way of simplifying the converging lines and angles.
But of course it’s you home and you should do what you’re prepared to do. This is only a suggestion and if you didn’t plan on this and don’t have the tile needed to go to the ceiling then, que sera sera!😂
Probably not a bad idea but I am done tiling, haha.
But I've tiled to what I believe is the same height as the glass doors and I think it will be less visible in that way, there are so many "feature" things everywhere in this house and the villa so I don't really need to add more of them.
I just wish we could get started on the villa instead of the stables!
I think 10,008
Noted, I will reveal the correct answer shortly.
i say 2000 tiles
Thank you Ian, I will reveal the correct answer shortly.
Great Job on the tiles, really coming along. My guess 5,882
Thank you Maxine, I will let you know shortly if you were right.
We all love this progress that was made today. Wow! Those are two fine dogs.....just too bad one has wander lust!!!
Thank you! Haha exactly, all he wants to do is escape and eat, I guess he is escaping to go eat at our neighbours place...
8100 tiles :)
Thank you for guessing, ill let you guys know soon!
2089...
Noted, thank you for participating!
I don"t whether in your situation it would have worked but when i'm gluing mosaic i normally run the edge of a trowel along the joints in order to align them as best i can. The tile glue normally softens the glue holding the mosaic to the net and a little adjustment is possible at times. Keep up the good work.
That's a great idea! If I ever do that again ill try it.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
👍🍀💐
🙏🏼
I'm guessing 6,100 tiles.
Good job.
Thank you Gary, I will reveal the correct answer shortly.
Hi
My guess is 8,362 tiles! Love your videos and your sense of humor.
Thank you Sharon!
6000 tiles
Thank you for guessing! I will let everyone know shortly.
854 tiles
Thank you! I will get back with the correct answer very shortly!
1900 tiles
Thank you, I will let everyone know shortly
2776 tiles
Thank you for guessing, ill let everyone know soon!
I am always baffled why the whole shower room isnt waterproofed. And a floor drain. Then no need for a special base, and cleaning is so easy.
I cant even remember the last time I saw a bathroom with a floor drain (unless you have a bathtub), are bathrooms still built like that where you live?
This is basically just a toilet for the stables, it's never going to be used as a proper bathroom when we move into the main house so I don't want to spend too much work on it.
7830 minus 8 for the water supply = 7822
Thank you for guessing, ill let everyone know soon!
Like.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your trip. All looks so beautiful 😊 you got a lot done with the bathroom, plaster work and even water on tap, so you use a bucket for waste 🤞do hope it’s not long for you, till the outside plumbing can be completed. 😊
Oh no, the bucket is not for waste. I used the lack of plumbing to fill the bucket with fresh water, the toilet is not in use, I rarely use the sink but that can without a problem just drain into the ditch outside for now.
Glad you liked the trip!
@@VillaAroldi oh lol 😂 sorry no I could not have written that correctly lol I knew it was not for toilet waste. 😉😂😂
😊😊😊
Thank you for watching Tony!
Yay, good job on the tiles. Have you thought about maybe putting a couple of those squares behind the sink faucet?
Thank you!
We will have marble there, probably coming this or the next week.
@@VillaAroldi Nice!

🐶🐕Crazy for Toni ❤❤❤
Haha, me too!
5,760 tiles.
Noted!

Guessing 42
I ment the individual pieces, not the number of sheets I put up, Ill let you have another guess John 😉
I guess there are 35 tiles 😅
I meant individual pieces, Ill let you have another guess 😉

8100 tiles! 😊
Okey 8010 to be exact.
Ok noted 👍🏼
glad to see progress.. I was lucky enough to spend a summer working in Cortona and had the chance to explore the region.. Assisi is probably my favorite town in Tuscany..
Yes, finally some progress!
Assisi in Umbria? Unfortunately we did not have time to go that far south and we had to avoid driving through certain regions due to the flooding.
