- 2023 has been an interesting year for gaming. On one hand it has been one of the strongest years in recent memory when it comes to games not only just the big hitters, but depth across the board with indie gems and AAA hits galore. So many good games have come out this year, that average games like immortals of aveum which is a solid 7/10 game completely flopped because we were all busy playing the plethora of amazing games that a wide variety of studios and genres have brought us.

Every tech company overhired in 2020, giving people blank checks to do no work just to make sure they had the most talent in the industry. We are seeing a natural course correction now in these layoffs
I miss the ps1/ps2 era style of games. Im fed up of movie cinematic games, rougelikes, shooters etc
Well you’ll love Hi Fi Rush! That game feels like a true classic game, straight out of the game cube or ps2/OG Xbox era!
Edit: omg I got a heart :)
Get a steam deck and emulator. That is what I do and it's amazing
Hi Fi rush is really good. Sadly i have no rhythm so i didnt finish it lmao.
Western gaming is at its downfall. Baldur’s Gate 3 was the he only game to be saved from being completely dead.
Great vid dude. Gaming is going down the toilet, fast. Long love retro gaming and emulation!
One thing you didn't mention though, it seems like all the companies take major hits are USA companies. Seems like American corporate greed might be what's actually killing the industry.
Great video, Arrrash. I really appreciate you taking the time to put things in perspective and counter the narrative that will most likely form around this year given its releases.
Gamedev is a black box and too few people have any insight into the way games are made and the real human cost of it. It behooves these companies for people to only see the finished products and not the cruelty behind them.
Excellent video as always.
Anytime "Share holders" Get involved in a market like gaming it comes crashing down because its all 40+ year olds who dont play games they just see profits so that forces game studios to make the same game for 4 years straight with no improvements making every studio scared to try something new because of "Share Holders". Its crazy how indie developers are making better games then actual game studios because they actually love games not because they see profits.
One demand a Xenogears remake, which we all want that
I encourage you guys to try unique indie games like gigantic that game might be coming back and if you haven’t heard if its basically everything overwatch couldn’t be for a hero shooter. It’s a third person arena fighting game hard to even explain because of how unique it is.
If video games became more expensive to make then why did Capcom release RE remakes year after year?
Because $$$
A lot of games are far more expensive than they need to be, Cyberpunk 2077 is a prime example. A large chunk of that budget was to pay Keanna Reeves.
Great video man. Thank you for making this.
Anytime, ik people talk about it, but it feels like the more general public will remember this as an amazing year for games. Which obviously we got plenty of good games, but felt the flip side was worth mentioning
Great video as always. There Is always two sides to every coin, and It's always good to keep things In perspective.
If it weren’t for Baldur’s Gate 3, then what is 2023 gaming?
That was interesting! When you recap it like that, it sure has been quite a ride for gaming this year. It is sad to see some of those beloved names go. But also curious to see how the industry continues to evolve.
I’d taken a break from gaming for enough time that the dlc content turned into live services with seasons and regular updates and it blew my mind. I was stoked. Then realized how much marketing went into it and concluded I was just playing in a new era, new style, where not all is static, thus helping profitability over time. But I could throw in a single player disc game and would have the same experience every time. It’s neat really seeing all of this. I haven’t played a game in a month and before that was just Apex for over a year! What should I play for my 31st bday tmro Arrrash? I’m on ye ol Xbox 😁
Thanks for sharing anyways! Always good stuff
Oh snap turning 31 I just turned 30 on Saturday! Haha.
I’ve heard the new robocop game is really fun if you want something less mainstream, I’ve yet to try it tho.
Otherwise Alan Wake II got some good reviews or if you want some cod nostalgia friday mw3 releases with all the remade mw2 maps
@@Arrrash heck yeah dude happy late birthday and cheers from the front range of Colorado! 😀 30 has been a fun ride 😊 I wish the same for you.
Let’s gooo thanks man! I think I’ll give the robocop game a shot. I never finished the first Alan wake all those years ago! 🤦♂️ was good tho, I’ll prolly try that one next. Gaming and RUclips will be my saviors this winter. Cheers matey! Looking forward to your next upload
To celebrate 30 I hurt my knee trying to be young and play football 😂. But besides that it’s been good! Hahaha
@@Arrrash 😂 ohohoh nooo 😅 f man I hope it heals up well! Glad it’s been good otherwise tho.
It seems I’ll be attempting both Alan wakes this week 😎 robocop not working for reason ah well.
On the note of trying to be young, my slightly younger brother and I got into skating to spend time with the much younger brothers a couple years back. In just 6 month I messed up my shoulder pretty bad and the slightly younger brother broke both his wrist in one fall 🤣 we both eased up on the daring physical activities after that 🤣 the youngest brother f ed up his ankle like 7 times and bounces back so fast I don’t get it anymore hahaha
Modern working conditions in any industry is so shit and is why also modern schools are also so shit. It's how big these industry has become that has impacted society as a whole
Can you give details? Almost everyone I know that works a "9-5 job" in the US is working from home since 2020.... My wife takes our dog on walks while on work meetings. What more do you want?
@zombiejesus7445 I meant that now days it's total luck to find a job that will treat you decently or not lay you off due to all the developing things in the world like ai
@@switchboy2320in Japan, the average job experience positively is at 70%. However, Nintendo in Japan employees are treated far greater than any company.
Solid video. Not arguing with your points hut just contextualizing a bit- you can generalize all the issues in the gaming industry to the rest of the economy right now. I don’t think gaming is in a particularly bad spot. Just think capitalism has been pushing some limits recently across the board.
Also how dare you leave out Lies of P footage. Game of the year for me.
So many good games this year, that one came and went for me :(.
And yeah I agree, it related to the economy as a whole. Just sucks to see everywhere
I can agree with your statement but I felt this year the games that came out just didn't get my attention or I just not bother because I don't care about the game only because it modern day but the two exceptions were Warhammer boltgun and diablo 4 any else is just sucks yeah I know there is armour core 6 but I waiting on that one.
Everything is going to hands in a hellbasket 🧺
