    Far Harbor was $24.99 USD
-You had an engaging story with Nick Valentine and DiMa
    -21 unique side quests
    -3 content focused factions
    -15 unique weapons
    -About 10+ unique armors/outfits
    -New magazines for skills
    -1 Unique companion
    -new perks
    -50 unique locations
    -New settlement items/locations
    Impact on the base game
Shattered Space doesn't even have half of that and it's $30 USD.....

I was very excited for SS and after finishing this morning, I can say it was not Far Harbor level. It's closer to Automatron in value
The biggest surprise for me was that it DOESN'T have NEW Ship parts??!!
      Ummm hello???!
The SS main story was good, but feel off at the last mission, felt rushed and the player agency was a mute point with the final decision, even if you are a Starborn there are no unique interactions/dialogues in SS or Vanilla when the NG+ is their gimmick...

I haven’t played it but that is the impression I got playing the base game. House Varuun was such a big presence in so much of the dialogue and story, but then there’s like one quest in their embassy and absolutely nothing else in vanilla Starfield. I was immediately skeptical. I was thinking - oh ok, you carved out this faction quest line to sell it back to us later as dlc, didn’t you, Todd?
BGS used to do fantastic DLCs. You could never mistake shivering isles, dawnguard, far harbor or even some of the lesser ones like broken steel or The Pitt for sections of the base game carved up and sold back to us later. They were clearly labors of love that offered tons of new gear, contebt, quests, new assets, new powers, etc. Shattered space sounds like they’re doubling down on the “minimum viable product” concept, and it definitely should have been in the base game or at worst, 15$ not 30$.

My opinion: I’m devastated by Starfield as a whole…i’ve played over 100hrs, finished the Faction Quests hoping it would get more interesting…it didn’t. I haven’t finished the base game. Choices have no consequences, the loot is terrible, the planets are pretty much the same. The vehicle they finally added is terrible…it’s like it has bald tyres. No traction. The game was so overhyped. Nobody ever asked for 1000 boring planets. I couldn’t wait for it to be released. I’ve never been so disappointed in a game in my whole life. 😢

Are we forgetting that when starfield came out the main defence that all of the starfield fans were using was that 'the game gets good after x hours' IGN literally said it started to get good after the 60 hour mark. What do you expect lol. I've played many games all the way through that I just didnt enjoy, but did so because I wanted to enjoy them but couldnt, I'd like to enjoy starfield, but i dont, because it is a bad game which failed to learn from the criticisms of skyrim and fo4 and instead completely removed their best features while putting an emphasis on the terrible new features and those other game's weakest 😂😂

The main issue is BGS thinks they are still on the top of the mountain. They didnt learn anything from great RPGs that released after Skyrim and shook up the space - witcher 3, baldurs gate 3, elden ring, cyberpunk, Red Dead 2, etc. Their game design philosophy is stuck in a time capsule and Todd is too established and successful to bend. I'm seriously worried about elder scrolls 6.

People liked Far Harbor because it had an interesting and compelling moral conundrum. The entire DLC is basically truth vs. peace: would you rather uphold the truth, even if this can spark a conflict, or try to maintain a peace that's built on a lie - and infact - a peace that isn't even being sustained by humans...?
It wasn't exploration, an eerie setting or anything like that. It was just a brief glimpse of a lead designer for that DLC who understood what Fallout was supposed to be about. (a lead designer who left the company after the completion of Starfield, btw)

@@Cloud_Seeker Which is totally possible. I actually bought Far Harbor late because they were selling it as the locals vs. the Children of Atom, which sounds very black and white since the Children of Atom are just nuts.
But the actual story is less about them and more about how they're an undeniable problem, and there's two proposed solutions: one acknowledging the truth of the matter, which will demand a war where the Children of Atom get wiped out, and another where we go for peace at any cost, but the cost is that the peace is built on a lie.
Still, it's crazy to think about how Bethesda *made these* and has been sitting on these titles for years, and potentially still hasn't figured out WHY people liked them.

    • @Cloud_Seeker
      @Cloud_Seeker 3 месяца назад +1

@@Longknife I think it is because they do not think much about what they are doing. When people point out continuity problems, they mock and laugh at them for caring to much. They are used to just throw an idea on the players and expect to be praised over it. That time is however over now.
What is strange is that Bethesda didn't look at New Vegas and tried to understand why people liked it.
What people liked about New Vegas was that all factions are well considered. They all have their reasons to be involved in the conflict. However all of them are seriously flawed. You can easily point out why all of them are bad, but you can also point out why they are good in their own way.
You also have the personal backstories and quests around the companions that make you care about each one of them.
But what did Bethesda learn from it? To have personal companion quests, but not all of them get one. And that there needs to be four factions, but no real conflict around each one of them.
I don't think it is a mystery why Bethesda is unable to understand why people like them. They refuse to listen to people that do, and they are to incompetent to understand what they are making.

Produce the bare minimum and then sell the new weapons, quests and companions that players were first hoping to get in the base game (and then were hoping to get in the dlc), as separate individual mtx. This is why so many people were dead set against the Creation Club, it's not a matter of "don't like mtx, then don't buy them" it's the way that mtx affect the core product. Why wow players with loads of new content when you can just drip feed them that content and extract tons more money in the process.

Starfield was a cobbled project after the main MMO side of Starfield was shuttered, this is why it is full of half finished MMO mechanics rather than Single player game mechanics. Hub worlds, the exploration is set up (Think MHW but rando gen areas) Even the economy is set up for MMO. Lack of a good story is also the biggest issue, because it was clearly tacked on after a majority of the game was built (Why it feels so messy) because they needed to convert a mostly storyless MMO into a story RPG single player experience. Also why there is no NPC schedule (barring few npcs which appear to have schedule retroactively added) and why NPC's that aren't just background filler just stand in one location, why no homes exist for the dozens of npcs that wander literally 24/7

But I feel like a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 fanboys were just itching for a AAA RPG game to fail so they could tell people “SeE? I think the first time (and maybe one time after) I was legit surprised religion was NOT put in a bad light and used for evil in a game plot was with Ashley Williams in Mass Effect 1. It actually fleshed out her character with interesting stories, views and opinions, and I wish we saw more come from it, maybe in the form of a questline to help her kind of find herself in the universe (I sound like a Trollywood actress, I know), but sadly, we ended up with what we got in ME2 and 3. Not that it was bad, just a little wanting, I'd say.

That ending felt unfinished too. not really a spoiler, but you get zero lore on their beliefs, what or who the great serpent is, why they are so extreme and so devoted etc. It's all cause '1 guy said he talked to a snake god 100 years ago'. And the most important missing lore bit, in the base game the pilgrim talked about in his logs how he fought some guy and died over and over (he went in the unity so he kept fighting him in different universes) and it was strongly implied the other person was the OJ varuun founder. I expected some sort of extended lore on the unity, the interactions the founder of the house had with the pilgrim, if the snake god is actually a starborn who started a cult. My friends and I were theory crafting so hard and considering the deep lore of TES, expected some GOOD STUFF here, and we got NOTHING. ZERO. NO EXPLANATION ABOUT ANYTHING. The DLC just randomly ends. No end of DLC loot, no explanation of how things work or happened. and NO CHOICES. It's the same ending no matter what. This was INSANELY BAD just from a lore perspective.
In fallout 4, at least the crazies (children of atom) you have unexplained magical effects like radiation not hurting you, and a womens voice whispering to you. That could make you a believer even if it's not explained. In starfield? Do we have a snake talking to us, or some magical powers? Nope. Everything was SPOILERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR a science project gone wrong, experimenting with grav drive tech to move people into a state of limbo like existence. How does that make people worship a serpent god? There's nothing moving them to the cult. The children of atom, she (the voice) talks to you, guides you, makes you powerful somehow. It's enough to hook people into worshipping... I expected the first intro quest to at least let us interact with the snake god somehow during initiation. Or hear him talk to you or give you orders. There was NOTHING.

    • @pietro0games

How much dialogue do these "companions" have? If it's not on the same level as Barrett, Andreja, Sarah, or Sam then it's not a companion - it's a crewmate. There are lots of throwaway crewmates you can recruit in the base game. But all you can do with them is use them as meat shields or have them work your outposts. They don't have any real tangible substantive content. They're just dumb bots that you have to pad out your team. Matty acknowledged he did find 2 such crewmates, but since they have hardly any real value beyond just being a warm body that can do menial labor, they don't really count as companions. At best, this DLC gives you a tiny bit of content for one of your pre-existing companions. Whereas far harbor had two companions just for the DLC that actually had a decent amount of dialogue and content surrounding them. That's the difference. And if you can't see that, then I don't know what to do for you. You're just willfully ignorant at that point.

There's a lot of low hanging fruit in Starfield that can make the universe feel more immersive, like card games, gambling, billiards, actual realized lived in cities. But perhaps the most jarring is how non-dynamic the companions are, especially in comparison to other RPGs like BG3 and such. Love Starfield, but there's so much potential left on the table.

Don't become an angry ranter. That's all there is on the internet these days. It's not healthy. Your level-headedness is why i appreciate your content so much. Not saying you shouldn't give your honest opinion, but please don't go out of your way to be angry.

I do wish Andreja had more involvement since she’s my wife in game. The environment and story is pretty cool so far. I guess im just slow. and the length wouldnt be issue if it wasnt a year later and part of a $30 set. I got at launch with a steelbook patch early access and the 1000 creation club credits so wasnt as bad for me but it is odd that its been this long after release and this is all we got.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, but the shills
Starfield's DLC didn't make the tepid game any better.

I played Starfield on release and enjoyed the gameplay & the ship building. Some of the faction and regular side quests are very good, but I found the companions and main story to be incredibly mediocre. I haven't bothered playing it again since & have no interest in playing Shattered Space, because it does nothing to address the reasons I stopped playing.
I have watched a lets play of the expansion and the criticism which I think fits best is, Shattered Space feels like a main game faction question, cut out and sold separately. This would be the same as selling a Fallout 4 expansion, so you can join and play the faction quest for the Railroad instead of it being part of the main game. Bethesda game expansions always are new stories, unconnected to the main game for the most part, where you have a decent number of options.
Dawnguard for Skyrim is a good example. You can ether choose to join the vampire hunters, rebuild their organization and take the fight to the Volkihar clan and other vampire threats across Skyrim. Or you can accept Vampire Lord Harkon's offer of incredible power and immortality, betraying the Dawnguard and seeking ever greater dark power for yourself. In Shattered Space you are forced to join the House Vurun faction... This would be ok if it was a standard faction quest, but its not sold as one. Yea, very disappointed.
Also, seriously what is with developers having this entitled attitude of "we put so much passion and effort in to this" as if that entitles them to my money and praise? I loved all of Skyrim's expansions, I loved all of Fallout 4's dlcs. Eventhough Nuka World was disappointing if you don't play a raider. I see nothing to be excited for with Starfield until Bethesda pull their heads out of their rear ends, actually listen to the feedback and improve Starfield, instead of making a faction quest, by precedent set by every previous title ffs.

I am sincerely glad you enjoyed the original Starfield.
The disappointment and frustration that you feel here? I felt that with the original game. I honeslty feel that Starfield was so unbelievably underdeveloped that I completely lost faith in Bethesda. Truly. It would take a BG3 level quality game that everyone agrees is ACTUALLY that to even make me considere another game.
Thank god I have Gamepass so it cost me nothing, but I watched the positive and negative reviews and came away with some belief that I could find something interesting.
Nope. After 2 hours I felt angry and bired and felt like this is from 20 years ago, and I am not referring to the graphics. Peole said I need to play deeper i to it, at least 10 hours. So I literally forced myself to get to 15 hours. Nope. Done. Possibly forever.

I loved the game, and it has a lot of hidden gems throughout it, especially with the unique NG+/multiverse system. Problem for me is it fails at a lot of game mechanics that made Skyrim great. Things I expected from BGS, but didn't get.

For me, BGS is The Elder Scrolls. Starfield is absolutely irrelevant. It's not great, it's not bad. But the most importantly, it's not TES 6. Which is the worst thing about it.

That opening bit about grifters and liars taking advantage of peoples' hate or hype is so on point. That being said, good for you for always trying to give honest takes on games despite modern pressures.

I feel like leaving the last - and to me - most interesting religion or path in the game to DLC is so scummy. I actually thought, given how the guy was ex-Varu'un or its founder or something, that his notes would lead us to the faction in the main quest "Unity", but noooo.

I've finished the DLC. Andreja said next to nothing and she was with me from start to finish.
I'm in NG+10 so I'm in my final universe for this character so I'm kinda disappointed that the character who married her won't get her input

Bethesda should be delighted with a thoughtful critique, and take that feedback for making a better product. The diehard fans need to grow up, if you love something enough you should be able to take negative feedback and be truthful when the game is garbage.

Matty I know you probably won’t do this but you should review and show off a Skyrim mod list called LoreRim. It’s an auto install wabbajack with 3,200+ mods that completely transforms Skyrim into a lore friendly modernized and beautiful open world. It’s absolutely my favorite RPG at the moment. So many new quests, armor, weapons, world spaces and overhauls in general. Unfortunately it’s PC only of course but it’s just mind blowing how great the list is put together and literally a 150+ hours of getting that same feeling you have when you first played Skyrim! It would be worth your time❤️ very easy to install as well.

My theory is that Shattered Space was never intended to be a DLC. The game was delayed several times. This part of the game just was not ready by launch, so they decided "Hey, let's hold this back and release it as a DLC so we can get the rest of the game out." They release the main game and continue to finish this up. They hear the criticism of the main game and do some tweaking and additions to make this feel a little more full. This would explain why, in the main game, the House of Va'ruun feels so half-baked, unfinished and incomplete. There was suppose to be more and it was all held back.

I would take this explanation, but why did they waited *an entire year!!!* to release it? That's insane. Especially since it's only 5 hours of content.

Bethesda needs to have 2 games: The dungeon crawl ones and open world ones.
