Switch the engine. I think everybody here that’s an enthusiast has probably blown at least one engine up it kinda just comes with the territory. Luckily they’re pretty cheap.
Drop another 24 in it, they're relatively cheap and you already have everything. My k20z1 spun a rod bearing from going thru a puddle too. Didn't happen right away but a few months later.
The oil pan isn't cheap. Neither are the tie rods and ball joints. Car's gettin' old, brotha. I laughed when he said "Drop another 24 in it" like, drop another 24 grand xD. More like 5-10 though if you really love the car.
@@LukeThibodeau apparently you dont work on hondas. The parts for these cars are dirt ass cheap bro. I nearly laughed....The fuck u mean tie rods and ball joints are "expensive"? Maybe if you are unemployed, living off daddys money? You can get both tie rods, ball joints, inner tie rods for under 100 bucks *quality* parts.
A k24 is under 1k USD, I nearly laughed - where the fuck do u figure 5-10k? this aint no damn shitty WRX..
Oil pan? why the hell would u need to replace that? And needs be, find one for under 100 bucks. Nearly laughed again
Gerb has taken care of his Civic Si, the puddle incident is what caused this. He has beaten the car to death many many many times before the puddle incident.
Get a life
@@LukeThibodeau What are you talking about. I dropped a 24 in my RSX. The motor was $800. Labor was another #400 ish. He already has everything. Why does he need ball joint, oil pan etc...? He could do that replacement for maybe $1200 max if he does it himself.
@yardman0001 pretty sure he did the swap himself. I remember in one of his old videos he had the motors on hoists in his yard.
@@LukeThibodeauYou’re either trolling, or a have no clue.
Damn i just bought one of these and ive been watching your vids for all the minor repairs ive done. And it just blows up! God will take care of you man. Hope youre doing well
God first..God does things for a reason..maybe he was gona crash&God Let the engine Blow. #YESHUAISKING
@@eyeofthetiger7596 Christ.
@@eyeofthetiger7596 lmao ok thumper
It didnt 'just blow up'. He had previously driven thru a much too deep puddle of water and locked the engine up, damaging it. This is his first time driving the car since that incident. It did major damage, unfortunately Gerb found out the hard way.
The K series engines in general are unmatched in reliability. I've put 70k on my k20 and I do not drive it "nice" or baby it ever. like ever.
Just check your oil every few weeks IF you drive it hard every day, they do burn a bit at the higher RPM - its normal.
@jackhofalot6705 I didnt know the backstory to this i guess. A waterlogged engine is usually game over. I picked mine up a few weeks ago from an old lady with 160k miles, and it only seems to need a serpentine belt. I wonder when things will start to break, thinking I'm gonna do the clutch and timing chain/tensioner at 200k.
Man don’t give up I’ve been seeing your videos when since I was in high school I’m 23 already and my dream car was an SI and your the ones that make me love my car
I’m not bro, I’m tearing her down though. New vid dropping tonight or tomorrow
Im sorry man that sucks so much. All your videos have helped me so much with my 07 si. I hope everything works out in the end!!!
Fellow trucker and 8th gen owner, been watching your vids since I got it 6 years ago. My condolences friend, I’m sorry this happened to you. Keep your head up, and maybe a cheap swap or another sick car will fall into your hands. I couldn’t fathom parting with mine so I can imagine how rough you feel. Hang in there brotha!
That really sucks man. I wish you the best in recovery. Your vids really helped me get started on my 07 Si. I saw the video where you hydro locked your engine, this is why I stuck with my K&N intake with the heatshield, but yeah I wouldn't have attempted it anyways without seeing someone else go through a puddle like that first.
Oh No....My sincerest Condolences. Been following you since the beginning. Here's to New Beginnings. R.I.P Midnight,
that is heartbreaking! I recently subscribed and viewed some of your videos to fix my 2006 Honda Civic SI.
Noo bro I used all your videos to update my car. It's helped so much . Hope you replace that engine n pull them gears again .
Man that absolutely sucks. I bought an 8th gen si about a year ago and your videos have been of great help.
Were you running a cold air intake? Like the ones that go down to the wheel like the hybrid racing one?
String of bad luck, Gerb. keep the head up brotha. It just means its time for something new. AKA pull that engine and slap a turbo on a fresh k24 like you have planned.
Think about it.
Cant wait to hear the updates on the engine, and what your path is forward. The car is paid off, its reliable.
Next thing is buying new inner fender liners and a "proper" CAI.
Best of luck from NJ
Noooo bro i just checked out you channel and come to find out you just blew her how tragic! Hope for the best homie 👍🏼
Nooooo.... Sorry to hear man. I always refer to your vids when I need to wrench on my 07 Si.
rip midnight. I just smoked a deer in my fa5 last week and it is totalled. I know your pain man.
damn son. cant engine swap that one. RIP
@@TK-sx3mn funny thing is i just did engine swap it 5000k ago and now its smashed up
so does the deer !
@@tryscience The deer didn’t feel anything that thing was so dead.
@@ryleepowers deer piss me off mannn that sucks i wish they could all be turned into jerky
Im sorry homie, just know its all part of the plan. On to bigger and better things. Def try finding a car with lower milage in the future, I can tell you really take care of your car from all your other videos, but there isn't much to do about the wear and tear that happens past 200k miles. Unless you have your own shop and can pull the engine, but otherwise the cost of labor simply isn't worth it. Just got a 9th gen SI a couple months ago and its been treating me brilliantly even with learning how to drive manual on it and a little abuse here and there. If you're interested in them, I highly recommend. Last gen before honda started throwing turbos at these 1.5L baby engines lol
Damn. Sry that this happened bro. Hate to see the 8th gen go out like this. Hope you can find another Honda soon man! Good luck!
Damn man that brings back memories. When I bought my FG2 from a salvage auction I had no idea how to drive manual or how to fix anything on that car but I learned along the way. I fixed everything myself minus the wielding. My biggest fear was having to take that engine out and having to repair or swap it. But life said think again. One year and a few months of driving my SI on what started as a dry sunny day 10 mins down the road was pouring rain and flooded streets. being ignorant of the cons of having a cold air intake in Florida I hydro locked my engine. Pushed a rod straight through. I had no choice but to go on the hunt and learn more about the k series and the FG2 platform because honestly cannot afford to buy a whole new car. But in the end it made me a better man. I turned to people like you for advice on k24 swapping their FG2 I now know how to take my engine out, tear it down and put it back together. Currently in the processes of dropping a junkyard k24a2 in the FG2. Just keep it pushing man.
Noooo, my sincerest condolences man.
man. as others say, dont give up. I got rid of my fg2 when it died on me a year ago because the engine got completely seized. now i regret so much and I should have just swapped it to another engine like k24. I'm in search of another one(ima pick a sedan this time, fd2.) but never be the same....
I have my other fg2 man, so I'm not. I hear you though, but you'll find another one. Sedan is the way!!
I’ve been watching u for years met u in person at hday and I’ve had my 8th gen for as long as I’ve been watching u and I’ve come to the conclusion that I want a lighter car so I got a eg for a good deal and am gonna take out the si motor and throw it in my eg my si had to much rust too so it’s all working out in my favor whatever u do next just know midnight will always be a memorable car for you and all of us
There's no way! You have to be at Hday! I didn't forget about the 2nd 8thgen Si and the spare motor! 😈🔥
Sorry to hear.... time to close that chapter and move on too
the next. Keep your head up.
Appreciate that 🙏🏼
Sorry to hear this man. Second K24A swap is on the way.
Sorry about the car happy you’re safe though
Thanks man
I had a bad oil leak a few years ago and thought I blew the motor. I was lucky since it was only 2 oil leaks that showed up at the same time. One was the VTEC solenoid and the big leak was that it was spraying out of the connector for the oil pressure switch.
Hopefully your insurance steps up and looks after you. Im excited to see what the next chapter brings
Drop another k24 in... easy peazy... But Sorry this happened Steve. You will recover bud. Stay strong!
Dammm keep going gerb the f I can’t believe it k24 is a 8,5 /10 engine but shit happens take care man
Yeah that sucks man but you got the other shell with no rust I would get insurance money "hopefully" and put a motor in the shell you got. I would take off all the things you cab save off midnight and put on the other car as well.
Exactly, it’d be one thing if I didn’t have another shell. I like your thinking though, update coming soon with ins, engine, other fg2, etc. I have started the part out process on midnight 😎
Bro I been going through similar issue might sell fg2k20z3 spool valve assembly, vvt solenoid, issues now can't drive past 4k rpm... we shall see already had to sell a built eg ls swap all I have left is 8th gen Si cars at 230k or so never really had issues before
God Bless
"My Chevy shook a Chit"
what happened ?
I assume something hit the oil pan or something.
Not sure about engine blowing up because usually pistons blow on high rpms.
RIP midnight. Hope it all works out in the end fam 🙏🏼🫶
I mean atleast your ok and you have the whole shell and transmission.. maybe the head is still good also, cams and what not.. with everything ready to go like it is you could just drop another short block on it if the heads still good.. have her back up in no time!
Bro wtf happened? It boggles me how can an NA engine blow up and let alone a kseries. Man wtf. Even moneyshifting won even send a hole on a block.
I’m still clueless. I was driving it regularly. It randomly blew up at 65mph. Car seemed to be running fine the past few months … unfortunately the water damage that happened months ago caught up, but no one knows.
Dang bro that sucks - I don’t remember you making a big deal of any water entering the engine… I think you’ll fix it lol
BUT you should work on the new one and get it rolling then figure out midnight
Yeah it does, but it’s not the end of the world. I’m parting ways with her man, time to focus on my other fg2 - Ms. Nighthawk 😎
Noooo I’ve watched soo many videos about the 8th gen sad to see it blown
This is what happens when you constantly beat the ever living crap out of the motor.
I really don’t drive that hard
Love to sell you my si, i gotta sell it 😢but it would be sick to watch you continue your 8thgen si vids!
Don’t worry about it man, I’ve got my eye on a few cars right now plus have my other fg2.
Was a good run!
Agreed
Same with the SRT-4 my friend. Luckily you can fix anything in this day in age. cheap TSX 06-08 swap, and a few seals and you'll be back on your feet. Much love!
What happened to the srt?? I know, that’s why I love Hondas 🤙🏼
@@TheGerbsteve I blew it up (two holes in the block brother lol.) BUT all good I am LITERALLY almost done prepping my low mile replacement engine, bigger turbo manifold, resealed, and upgraded a few stronger long term reliable solutions. It should run quite nicely. I will have it swapped in within the week or two as I write this!
btw JUST saw that you replied back my friend. Caught up on your recent video as well
Put your old K20z3 back in it. 👀🤷🏻♂️
That’s the plan, but not in midnight. I’ll be explaining soon
@@TheGerbsteveTURBO TIME !!!
Dang man that sucks, way to stay possative tho!. "Homie hooked me up with a soup" . Dieing man! Very north eastern of u.
Keep your head up dude! I’ll give you another beer and water on hday to cheer you up. Keep wrenching 🤙🏽
The old it just blew up story 😅
I'm not worried Gerb , you got this🦾💪take your time
That hydrolock definitely done some damage... How many miles u drove after it?
It had to be the contributor.. 7k miles
this sucks man, if it makes you feel any better i've been watching your videos for a long time, here's my short story. Decided to boost my original motor, kicked metal through the pan within 1-2 months. Dropped a k24 in with a k20 head, head studs and gasket failed in a month. Swapped in another head gasket with various other new parts and im still having issues on the third motor. This kind of stuff comes with the hobby, don't feel too bad about it. You could definitely get a warrenty k24 from a depot for around $1,000. If you're anywhere near jersey man ill help you throw it in. Will take one day and i dont want any money, just bring a 12 pack brother. cheers
Oh man.....this is hard to watch! Midnight is down....but forever? I'm anxious to see if you're insurance will be "a good neighbor"! Lol
Yeah, I was bummed about it for a bit… I am parting ways man, everything will be explained soon with car, insurance, etc 🤙🏼
@TheGerbsteve we are all behind you, brother. Don't let it get you down, and we're looking forward to any new content you've got in-store! Cheers, boss. Honda Nation. A cool montage video of all the old highlights of midnight with some music would be a cool flashback video. I mean, you took us on so many learning journeys with that car, and we thank you. she deserves a "closing time" video. Rip midnight, you will be missed, and you fought like hell.
Hey man I feel sorry for what happened to the fg2. I have a spare 24a block 06-08 you can have for free. It would just need your spare parts from previous motor and some new things that broke on your car... Hoping it’s just the block. if you want to pick it up or meet half way. I’m located in Jersey. Lmk.
Bro, I appreciate that! But I want You to keep it. I’m parting way with her and I’ll eventually grab another k24 sometime in the future for my other fg 🤙🏼
Aw man, terrible news!
Yeah, it’s unfortunate
Sorry Man 🙏
put the k20 back in! lol
sorry man :( but can i buy your turbo kit
Does insurance cover engine failures? If so this is news to me.
Some do, but it all depends on the circumstance. Only way to know is ask.
RIP

Time to switch to an fg4!
😢💔
Stay with Honda, things will get better😢

Can’t frank it, huge hole in my k24 block. Time for the ole k20? We’ll see
@@TheGerbsteve get a new block and use your old k20 head
_Damn Bro, guess the hydro lock might of helped this expire🤷🏻♂️_ …. _R.I.P 🪦_
Theses k series hate the rain
K24/k20 time!
That will cost a pretty penny tho... K20a2/z1/z3 heads arent cheap. Really, he can just buy another k24a and port the head for FAR cheaper. People dont seem to realize you can EASILY port a k24 head to flow the same air as a k20 head. I hope the head is still good and he gets it cuz then he can just find any cheap k24 short block and maybe throw in some rods and pistons and bump the compression a bit if he is staying NA.
Get another k24a2...rinse and repeat
All i gotta say...stay honda or at least a k since your familiar with it. i branched out into too many platform and by unpopular opinion I say stay away from the 2jz - great power in gte form but in ge form so far its thrown so many twists and turn that i'm really regretting even though I got it for jack shit. Ive been working on the damn timing brlt since my radiator took a crap along with the valve cover which the book time on just the plugs is 2 hours and digging it -it makes sense.
So i say stay honda and since your familiar with the k, the k series since working on my fa5 and integra is stupid easy compared to the lexus - thst even including backyard dropping a new motor into integra!
nooooooo!
Man I found your videos 6 years ago when I got my 09 Si. Haven't done much to her except normal wear and tear items. Did the clutch at 191k and shes still going strong at 210k! Sad to see it happen man, best of luck! Too much blood, sweat, and tears to give up on Midnight now!
when i blew my first k20 i just tossed in another one 3 months later. insurance never knew a fuckin thing 😂
I had a claim out for water damage, but I regret saying something. I’ll fill you in why in vids to come
how much for your hondata
Not selling it
Time to build a engine to handle boost. An supercharge it. Dont give upnonnthe car. Its to nice.

I’ll be putting the z3 back in, but not in midnight 😕
Bro didn’t insurance say they would pay for a swap? Just get it swapped dude I fr don’t know why that’s not talked about like they didn’t say it
Swap in a Hyundai engine, those never blow!

Hey man, same thing happened to me summer of 2021, it breaked my heart, it sucks ass and I was beating myself up for months afterwards.
You're doing great with that great attitude, try to stay positive dude! It's just a car, there are still plenty of K motors out there (thankfully, that won't be true 10 years from now)
I finally have garnered enough finances to get another FA5 or FG2 for myself once again which I am excited about, looking to buy in May as I have some trips to do beforehand.
Love your content dude, been following you since you made that "8th gen buyers guide" video, you got this man. You're an extremely hard working individual with the right goals and the right mindset, all you need is patience my brother 🙏🙏
