In 2012 I was 13ish, maybe just turned 14. I didn't discover Mass Effect or your channel until I was 15 pushing 16. But, at the time, Mass Effect was my favorite game and it was looking for songs related to it that I found your channel and fell in love with your music. Last week I was on the other side of the country cleaning out my grandfather's basement because he had passed in December and the estate was letting my brother and I collect some stuff from his will finally. The whole time I played the new edition of the first Mass Effect religiously and it helped. Now, I'm listening to a remix of this, the song that cemented my interest in an artist that I've been following for almost a decade now. I can't describe the emotion that its made swirl in me, but seriously Gavin your music has been a cornerstone of my young adult life. And I have nothing but thankfulness to convey for this amazing new iteration of something thats deeply personal to me. You are a wonderful artist.
The wildest part of this is that there's a shot from Tali's loyalty mission and you brought a character that wasn't Legion? I always bring a geth onto the migrant fleet, they love that.
With how late you acquire Legion, it's pretty much impossible to bring it to Tali's mission and then romance her before the endgame. At least I don't *think* her romance dialog is immediately after that mission. But it appears Gav romanced Miranda here so you've definitely got a point.
@@LyonTheGreat I hate how you only really have time to do Legion’s loyalty mission if you want to keep your crew alive. Really wish you could hold off installing the IFF until you were ready.
Tali's missions always feels like it needs to be done immediately (and I'm pretty sure you can straight up fail it if you wait too long after she tells you about it to go) that I always go and do it right away, and with getting Legion much later I've never done it. Really curious how that would go down though now.
@@Doomsword0 nope, not Tali's. I just finished ME2 with Femshep and specifically saved Tali's and Legion's respective missions for last just so I can get Legion on the Flotilla. You get a maximum of two missions before the endgame triggers so I save those two for last. But with male Shepard I do Tali's immediately because I want to romance her.
This song just always gets me emotionally invested in mass effect again. It just summarises the feeling I get during the start of ME3. Its just fantastic and I love it deeply.
"...dont forget that there is always hope to find..." shows footage of Normandy SR2. "...the foundations of our hope begin to rust..." shows footage of SR1 burning and falling apart. i see what you did there.
Just got the notification, so I had to drop everything to listen to this Update: Chills, the original was already amazing, but this version blew me away, especially the breakdown at 2:30
This is amazing! I loved the first versions “we won’t fight this war alone my friends, Shepard’s on his way back home again” because of the imagery of everyone having given up, they’re losing, and Shepard shows up and suddenly the fighting spirit is revived. But also, the new line that carries on from your song Normandy and that song is my overall favorite from your music. So for me, either way is amazing, and I like how this version is a little more “if you know you know” while the other is more like a theme song very specifically for ME3. So now I can have both depending on the mood!
The lyric changes are a welcome addition (as much as I do love the impact of "as a reaper comes to ground" in the original) and it just sounds so so much better. Everything goes to show how much you've grown as an artist, lyricist and producer. Still, the songwriting holds up and is further elevated by all the improvements. Keep up the great work!
This helped me alot, heartbreak but she fucked my head up a lil. This is the comeback. This song makes me want to be the man I used to dream of becoming as a kid. I ain't losing myself. You've been in my life nearly a decade brother. Always there when I need it. Much love.
When I first heard the original version, I hadn't played Mass Effect but I thought the song was ok. Now, with the updated, more universal lyrics, I absolutely love this song. Still haven't played Mass Effect, but with this new Legendary Edition coming out, maybe I should.
Don't bother. It's actually really, really overrated as far as storytelling goes. The gameplay is a solid power-focused cover shooter, but the plot is your bog-standard messiah story. Hell, they even dropped what little subtlety they had with the ending being some guy in the far future telling their kid a story about "The Shepard." I haven't seen a plot point this blunt since the main protagonist of Deus Ex was _literally_ named "J.C."
I hope you didn't listen to the latest commenter, mass effect is truly worth playing. The gameplay might not be the best you've experienced but the story, characters and everything else make it up tenfold.
you really should at least give Mass Effect a chance before you listen to haters. i think that the story of a game, as well as feeling like you’re in the protagonist’s shoes (and loving them every second) makes one of the best game experiences you can have. And mass effect did that. - the story will make you laugh, cry, and, want to see every possible dialogue option - you will be in tune with shepard’s feelings (happiness, despair, anger, etc.) after almost every mission - Wether playing as a paragon or renegade (essentially morally idealistic or really blunt/forceful) Shepard is a badass you will enjoy playing as
Finished the trilogy for myself for the first time a few days ago. Your songs are always great but it just hits different after playing such an experience first hand. Garrus my beloved.
Funny thing is: Mass Effect Legendary Edition was in my library for months, still untouched. never felt like playing it. until i found this song, a few weeks ago^^ it made me so hyped for the game(s), i HAD to start it xD great game btw.
Hi Gavin, thank you for both the original and the new versions. I am no gamer and have never played Mass Effect but the 2012 version has been my anthem for fighting clinic depression and finding hope in the darkest of times. I still prefer the old version, may be because l have lost count of the times l have listened to it but am sure this will grow on me. Going through a very dark phase again and glad for a new version of my favourite song to power me through! Love from lndia.
I was so eager to see this today after your post Gav. The music is amazing as always and seeing a gem remastered, just like the amazing series it is based upon, is a gift that keeps on giving.
Doubt you'll see this, this far after you released it. But I really want to thank you for this song. When they released I played 1 and 2, but by the time 3 came out my saves had been lost and I was so frustrated I didn't buy 3. I was unsure about getting the remaster, but I heard this song and decided to play them. I'm so happy I did. Reliving the first two games was enough of a reward in itself. But I'm playing 3 finally, and I just finished the Quarian main mission, and got the best ending, and actually cried. Tali was always my favorite character and romanced her in 2, and was so happy to see their scene after the mission, and I just cried. I don't care how the rest of the game plays out, that moment made it all worth it.
The timing of this was almost perfect, I just started my first ever play through of the Mass Effect series. Gonna have this and all the other ME songs on repeat the whole time!
Great remaster! The new arrangement rocks in more ways than one. Personally, I preferred the old lyrics because of how well they tied into your previous ME songs (the callback to Commander Shepard especially, though I think I like the new reference to Normandy better), but that may be just because of how burned into my brain those songs are since I always prefer the original over the remaster.
OOOOOOOH MY GOOOOOOOD! This song saved my life when I was down on my Luck and now to hear it in legendary version is giving me POWEEEEER! This is amazing, I love you man. I hope other songs get this bit of revamp. Although they are pretty perfect as they are.
With the current doom and gloom on the horizon, now seems a good time to revisit this song. Still just as good as I remember, with a sadly needed message.
This brought back a lot of nostalgia. Not only because of the franchise but also that I used to hear this song of yours back when I was still in school
would you like me to tell you how? you wont do this however. but i can tell you how. and no its not take alot of drugs or get alot of concussions or anything like it.

I absolutely adore this version. From what your comment said about removing references to the game to make the song more personal and less about just the same- I absolutely agree. This song isn’t just about Mass Effect, this song is about something bigger.
Well damn Gav you managed to improve what was already one of my favourite songs of yours! In the process possibly ruining the old version cause I absolutely love how much more raw the guitars are! You never disappoint
A masterpiece, just like the original. Many years ago, I listened to this song which made me aware of the existence of Mass Effect, and I’ve been a fan of both Mass Effect and Miracle of Sound ever since. Thank you for bringing it back to us, Gavin.
Truly a renewed and improved banger - it is incredible how far you've come as an artist, Gav! Maybe it just requires some getting use to, but I do miss the small tie-in parts with "From Omega to Mars" and "Shepard's on his way back home again". I get the wish to make it more universal, but I've personally always loved the way your songs are tied to the source.
I both do and don’t miss the tie ins. Because on the one hand, I love the mention of the reapers and Shepard’s story, but I didn’t really jive with the Shepard line, because I played nearly exclusively femshep and it threw me every time lol
@@_b1ack0ut4 I always thought "Shepard on their way back home again" would've been perfect. And I was so sure I would hear that line in the remastered version! XD
@@Makverus that was my thought too! But no I'm pretty happy with the renewed lyrics. At hey, the callback to Commander Shepard was replaced by a callback to Normandy, a more mature and fitting song. Don't mind that at all.

I was looking for this specific comment X)
Really miss the ''Shepherd's on his way back home again''. It hits the feels every time
While I really enjoy the new lines this one i really miss. That glimmer of hope in a war that cannot be won while your home planet is being destroyed and your entire species faces annihilation.
But there is one human on his/her way... Just hold on, Shepard is out there
Same, made it feel like the whole song was soldiers keeping morale up back on earth.
@@t3ichtaucher one woman in my case. FemShep ftw
@@BillyKatze Im also a sucker for FemShep and Jennifer Hale, I meant man as general human but i get the confusion^^ I'll edit it
@@BillyKatze Would've been an easy fix with "Shepherd's on their way back home again". And I do agree, FemShep rocks.
Such a great line, definitely miss it.
I've been putting off doing Priority: Earth for a few days but after this I need to make that final push and tie up my first of many LE playthroughs!
That shot of Jack ripping out of her restraints to the music is honestly iconic, I love it.
It's called we start an intergalactic conflict, it's called we start an intergalactic conflict
"Choose your path, walk it well" is honestly the absolute best advice you can give anyone looking to play Mass Effect.
This song just always gets me emotionally invested in mass effect again. It just summarises the feeling I get during the start of ME3. Its just fantastic and I love it deeply.
The Legendary Edition made me fall in love with this trilogy all over again
"...dont forget that there is always hope to find..." shows footage of Normandy SR2.
"...the foundations of our hope begin to rust..." shows footage of SR1 burning and falling apart.
i see what you did there.
My name is Commander Shepard and this is my favourite music channel on RUclips
Bought and played the legendary edition a month or so back and I have to say. I GET IT NOW, I know why people love it so much and I am a fan too now.
This was the first song of yours i heard way back in the day. Glad to see it remastered.
Truely commander shepherd's favorite song on the citadel
Still love the original version of this but the years of growth between now and then really make this a phenomenal definitive version imo.
The thing about this song is that it is the ultimate hype as it doesn't only hype the game, it hypes being alive in general.
Just got the notification, so I had to drop everything to listen to this
Update: Chills, the original was already amazing, but this version blew me away, especially the breakdown at 2:30
This is amazing!
You absolutely should, it's an amazing series, ain't nothing in the world like it.
Seriously go play it one of the best Sci-fi trilogies ever imo
- the story will make you laugh, cry, and, want to see every possible dialogue option
- you will be in tune with shepard’s feelings (happiness, despair, anger, etc.) after almost every mission
- Wether playing as a paragon or renegade (essentially morally idealistic or really blunt/forceful) Shepard is a badass you will enjoy playing as
My favorite games of all time. I wake up, game that game and sleep. Since many month
Amazing song that really encompasses the feeling of the games. A great homage.
Finished the trilogy for myself for the first time a few days ago. Your songs are always great but it just hits different after playing such an experience first hand. Garrus my beloved.
Funny thing is: Mass Effect Legendary Edition was in my library for months, still untouched. never felt like playing it. until i found this song, a few weeks ago^^ it made me so hyped for the game(s), i HAD to start it xD
great game btw.
I keep returning to this song two years later.
Thank you for your awesome songs
Your abilities age like a fine wine. This brings back a ton of memories.
I just finished the whole trilogy... and now im in tears. Thank you
Hi Gavin, thank you for both the original and the new versions.
I wasn't sure about the lyric changes at first but I LOVE the reference to Normandy, Nice one Gav!

The shot of the crew shooting down from the Citadel DLC is perfect levels of Friendship
This brought back a lot of nostalgia. Not only because of the franchise but also that I used to hear this song of yours back when I was still in school
ever since you mentioned remastering older songs I has a feeling this was going to be one of them, AND I BEEN HYPED WAITING FOR THIS DAY
I wish i could forget everything about Mass Effect so i could experience it all over again for the first time
would you like me to tell you how? you wont do this however. but i can tell you how. and no its not take alot of drugs or get alot of concussions or anything like it.
I just finished LE a few days ago, and this came just in time to strike while the feels are still fresh. Wonderful as always, keep up the good work. I should go.
Don't mind that at all.
the last "Before the world turns black" with the shot of Reapers coming out of dark space was a great touch... "Our numbers will darken the sky of every world."
There's no Shepherd without Vakarian.
I’ve been listening to Gavins songs since elementary school and now starting my second year of college.
Gav thanks for rejuvenating some of the best parts of my childhood
GAVIN.
YOU CAN'T JUST RE-RELEASE SOMETHING, MAKE IT BETTER, AND NOT EXPECT ME TO PUT IT ON LOOP FOR MONTHS AT A TIME!
Almost 10 years have passed.... Thank you, Gav, for giving me a foothold even in the darkest of times
Back in here Nov 2024 for my fight song
Listened to this before talking about a sensitive thing in therapy today. Helped give me the emotional strength to do it. Thanks mate. 💪
While I like the old version's solo at 3:27 (Because it felt more like it was raw emotion fueling Shepherd), I love a lot of the changes in this version. The smoother intro, especially.
Also, can I just say that, since I only really listened to the old version, and never saw it on RUclips, I always thought it was "For Earth, For All, For Glory". Feel kinda silly now seeing it's "For Us", but oh well.
The old version was "For Earth, for all, for glory" - that's one of the lyrics that got a touchup in this version.
I got chills
So this wasn't suggested to me... I'm so sorry it took me so long to get to it
where's IGP why aint he here yet lazy butt he is Icy
Having mass effect LE in my hands it makes me cry because mass effect got me through a lot and seeing a remastered version of this song when I saw the post for this I started crying thank you Gavin thank you so much

HELL YEEE!!!!!
THERE IT IS! One of my all-time favorite songs of yours. Thanks for the amazing Remake!
Mass Effect will always be the best video game franchise ever created in my honest opinion
We salute you Anderson, you did well until the end... thankyou for your friendship and your hard work..
I really love this remaster song not only it's fantastic . If you compare it with the original version you can hear the growth , evolution and love Gavin has for making music and I don't think that will stop so keep doing what you love Gavin so we will have the miracle of sound.
ABSO-FRAKING-LUTELY loved and TRULY enjoyed watching and listening to this right here!!!!!
Another one of my MOST DEFINITE favorites that I've watched and listened to SO FAR.
Mass Effect is ABSOLUTELY one of my MOST favorite Video Game series of ALL TIME!!!!!
The bridge saying: "for US" instead of "for Earth" hits different in the best way possible

When your favorite musical master releases a new song or song version, its a good day.
Gav you have absolutely out done yourself with this song! Fantastic work as always!
I've re-watched this video more times than I can count and it's still my favorite ME tribute on RUclips.
God, this works just as an advert for the games in general.
The original version literally was iirc, it was made in collaboration w/ BioWare for the release of 3
Nostalgia overload!!! I listened to this song so many times back in 2012! So glad to be reminded of it again!!!
These and the Dragon Age songs are 100% the best songs to run to. Always gives you that extra surge.
Still in love with this game and song! Great job!
"I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite song on RUclips".
Listening to this new version gave me shivers, gave me goosebumps, made my hair stand on end, and gave me a hit of energy like lightning in my veins. MMMMMM that's the good stuff. Thank you for this.
Unless it wasn't there before, I JUST noticed the callback to "Normandy".
It was originally a callback to Commander Shepard. Personally, I think the Normandy line is superior. It brings up so many emotions.
I didn't even know you were remaking this and yet it was still absolutely worth the wait. I bought the Legendary Edition on a whim and the trilogy has grown already to become my favorite series I have played. I think this song will follow suit.
the best game series ever
It is no exaggeration when I say I've been listening to this song over and over since it first came out, my kids moshed out to it on RUclips when it first came out and this is a brilliant remaster! Amazing, sir. Hope it'll go on Amazon music soon so I can add this version to the original.
Now this is even awesomer than before. My favorite miracle of sound song 25% more badass \m/. Thank you Gavin!
I remembered listening to the original version and loving it. This version is just as good if not better. I always listened to this song when playing mass effect, and now I can listen to this version while playing the remastered mass effect trilogy.
