LYRICS:
Take It Back
When you're stumbling through the darkness walking blind
Don't forget that there is always hope to find
Choose your path
Walk it well
Break out from this living hell
In this broken cage
We will not be confined
And when the world it starts to burn
At the point of no return
Keep a hold of
Your conviction
Tear out the affliction
Before the world turns black
Stand up and take it back
As the towers of steel and stone crumble to dust
The foundations of our hope begin to rust
Choking fear
Screaming sound
Your head and heart they pound
You face your demons down
Because you must
And when the world it starts to burn
At the point of no return
Keep a hold of
Your conviction
Tear out the affliction
Before the world turns black
Stand up and take it back
For us, for all, for glory
It's time to end this story
(You have made it this far)
For us, for all, for glory
It's time to end this story
And if we find our way back home again
We won't find ourselves alone again
They won't break you
Break you
They won't bring you to your knees
They won't break you...
And when the world it starts to burn
At the point of no return
Keep a hold of
Your conviction
Tear out the affliction
And before the world turns black
Stand up and take it back - Видеоклипы
When I first wrote this song way back in 2012 it was for a cross promotional collaboration with Bioware for the Mass Effect 3 launch. My first draft was a more personal feeling song, without any direct references to Reapers, Shepard etc... closer to how I write nowadays. The Bioware team at the time asked me to add more overt references/names so I did. This remake however is much closer in spirit to my original vision for the song and I love it. Hope ye enjoy it too! Luv!Gav
P.S. Don't forget to follow me on socials for news, fun stuff & updates! TikTok, Twitter, FB, Instagram etc... all in vid description!
Would you ever do a remake of The Crush? It was the first MOS song I listened to.
I pretty much memorized the original version, so it was a bit odd not hearing the familiar lyrics, but these lyrics are definitely better. They covey way more emotion and power than "save earth beat up reapers"
15/10 (because i still really liked the original and it's reference to the fun commander shepherd, but this one is more meaningful)
@@thegunslinger1363 Not gonna remake it but it will be on the remasters album
This song was the reason I played the original Mass Effect trilogy in the first place. It was also one of the first songs of yours that I heard. It has such a special place in my heart, this new rendition is fantastic, and I'll always be grateful to you for being the catalyst that got me into this series.
Gav, what I always admire about you is that you can embrace the most diverse styles of music and just make your music fit the occasion. There's no need for blatant, obvious references when the mood and the theme just match. Whether it's something as silly as "click, click, boom, boom" for Doom in "Hell to pay" to decidedly eastern european vibes in some of your Witcher songs, you just manage to distill the essence into music and lyrics. People who meddle in your work can only detract from it and make it less than it could be.
You can fight like a Krogan, run like a leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard!
Just want to write the same 🤣

COMMANDER SHEPARD !!!
"That assassin should be embarrassed. A terminally ill drell kept him from reaching his target."
One of my (many) favorite lines that came to mind while I watched this. Stellar work Gav.
"Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
"This is my favourite store on the citadel."
"Can it wait? i'm in the middle of some calibrations."
"By the goddess..."
"Keelah se'lai."
"Oh captain, my captain."
"Kolyat? Why did the last verse say "she"?"
"That's why i love you people. Why shoot something once when you can shoot it 48 more times?"
....cant think of any other right now, but i'm sure lots of people will keep this going.
@@BillyKatze "I'm Garrus Vakarian and this is now my favorite spot on the Citadel!"

The singular most badass boast I have ever heard.
As if having a remaster of Mass Effect wasn't awesome enough, here goes MoS remaster as well ❤️
Technically this is a remake not a remaster as he remade it from scratch- a remaster would just be like tweaking the EQ and such.
It wasn't awesome, it was a censorship filled mess
@@hukubis how so?
@@clarencemcclung96 Read up on how much did they cut and censored for "current day standarts".
@@hukubis Oh noooo you see slightly less butt. What an atrocity, they've ruined the integrity of the franchise, how will Mass Effect ever come back from this devastating blow. Woke mob ruins everything AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA :(
I cant get over the fact that Javik is still shooting the wall at 04:20 after all those years.
Even better when he actually drops his voiceline "I find what primitives lack in aim, they make up for in ammunition" afterwards
That was what I noticed as well.
You need to remember Javik was in a freezer for 50k years, he's still thawing out his other 2 eyes
Obviously, he had not heard of the ammo shortage of 2020-2021
that's what they did in his cycle, to intimidate enemies
Lol hahahahaahha
Now the only thing i need is remaster of "Normandy".
And Commander Shepard
Yes please! I absolutely LOVE Normandy!
+1
YEEESS!!!!
I think that song is already perfect as is.
Take it Back 2012: Just hold on a little longer...a hero is gonna save us :(
Take it Back 2021: Fuck waiting, fuck heroes, we're doing this ourselves!
YESSSSSSSS
We are the heroes
2012 would be what people are thinking, 2021 would be shepherd and hie/her message to the people of the galaxy
Back then we needed heroes. Now, we are heroes.
2012: hold the line, there's hope as long as we live.
2021: Fuck the hope, this is a time of action. We either die as heroes or live to see the world they aren't needed in.
Best bro: Garrus Vakarian
Best Girl: Tali'zora
You know it ;)
Wrex has the best humor, the best story, tried to change the krogans but betrayed by his father, saves the galaxy once, goes back on homeworld and a last becomes the boss, makes Krogans great again and trustable allies and people as he says to Garrus they'll do the thing they are the best for "saving everyone else from giant monsters". And Krogans in general have the best punchlines throughout the games.
But Garrus is at our side all along so I can understand, a bit of humor, badass and tragic fate (and btw, I love Garrus, I just prefer Wrex.)
@@elpoiro They're both great. Wrex, Garrus, Joker are all best bros. Thane despite being part of the crew for one game is up there too, alongside Legion and Mordin. All had great stories tied to them unlike say Jacob who was boring as fuck.
Hell, Kal Reegar would be an awesome bro if they didn't do him dirty in ME3
@@smiglo112 I agree so much. Thane is generally forgotten (I wanted a femshep only to romance him). Jacob is boring to death and a total random guy in comparison to the other dreamteamers (justicar, assassin, biotic psychotic, "baby" krogan, a talking geth etc...). He's tied with James (mainly because he took the krogan place in the squad).
@@elpoiro James at the very least has some sort of story running in the background. His relationship with Shepard is more complex than that of Shep and Jacob. The entire "I'm accepted into N7 program but I'm afraid of it" is a lot better, especialy considering it kinda mirrors some of Shepard backstory, than Jacobs "My dad disappeared... Oh he's alive and turned into a jackass". Not to mention it's funny that the sole black companion has his father go missing... Stereotype much.
Even with his flaws James is leagues ahead of Jacob in my opinion. And so are Kaidan and Ash.
How ironic this line sounds now:
"it's time to end this story"
The end of one story is the beginning of the next.
@@venomrulesall Indeed... maybe Andromeda is where the next one is. Afterall, I just wanna see where it's going
@@CazzyVR :/
@@twinblade02 Update Andromeda, it isn't as bad as people complain. Everything people complained about (for the most part) was fixed within a week or two. Even the voice lines that gave it a Ferngully message vibe has been changed.
The only thing that people complain about that is ironically a GOOD part of it... is that the Male and Female playable character have base personalities that aren't a total clean sheet like Shepard was. Scott tends to have a quick wit and add jokes to his lines to lighten the mood, Sara is more straight edged and serious with her jokes being more sardonic. It amuses me to no end how for years people complain about wanting a female lead that isn't there for sex appeal or jokes, and when Andromeda gives them one they complain that she isn't like Scott with the light hearted humor. Though Scott can go gallows humor depending on how you answer things and develop his personality over the game....that boy can get DARK.
This brought me to tears, not going to lie. Mass Effect as a series is one of the few game series in my catalog that I keep coming back to, even after over a decade of playing it. Shepard's story, their plight, is so well realized and investing as far as character story arcs go that I feel it's nearly unrivaled in the video game world. Having this already great song given new life, just as the series has been, is significant to me. The song captures a lot of the emotion from the entire series, and does it so well, that I felt it was hard to top on its own until I heard this. Absolutely legendary, Shepard would be proud and I, as a listener and fan of your work, applaud you Gavin.
Same here :)
I agree, but out of all of the emotional ups and downs through the series, I think the one that hit me hardest is when Shepard, battered and tired after everything on up to dealing with the Illusive Man and activating the Crucible, gets called to do more. And so Shepard stood up again.
"Stand up and take it back" indeed.
same here
Same, tears are coming ;D
I'm playing ME almost half of my life
Absolute masterpiece
Mass effect was the best gaming experience that i have ever had. I will probably never experience something quite like the mass effect trilogy ever again.
Well the arrangement is 100x better, of course
But I loved the changes in lyrics to make it more "universal" and less tied to the game
I try to write that way these days :) It's nicer for me because I want people who have never played a game in their life to still be able to enjoy my songs for their themes and universal emotions
Okay so the lyrics WERE changed, and it wasn't just that I'd been hearing them wrong all this time...
@@Lightning4119 I had that same moment as well lol

The wildest part of this is that there's a shot from Tali's loyalty mission and you brought a character that wasn't Legion? I always bring a geth onto the migrant fleet, they love that.
With how late you acquire Legion, it's pretty much impossible to bring it to Tali's mission and then romance her before the endgame. At least I don't *think* her romance dialog is immediately after that mission.
But it appears Gav romanced Miranda here so you've definitely got a point.
@@LyonTheGreat I hate how you only really have time to do Legion’s loyalty mission if you want to keep your crew alive. Really wish you could hold off installing the IFF until you were ready.
It's called we start an intergalactic conflict, it's called we start an intergalactic conflict
Tali's missions always feels like it needs to be done immediately (and I'm pretty sure you can straight up fail it if you wait too long after she tells you about it to go) that I always go and do it right away, and with getting Legion much later I've never done it. Really curious how that would go down though now.
@@Doomsword0 nope, not Tali's. I just finished ME2 with Femshep and specifically saved Tali's and Legion's respective missions for last just so I can get Legion on the Flotilla. You get a maximum of two missions before the endgame triggers so I save those two for last.
But with male Shepard I do Tali's immediately because I want to romance her.
That shot of Jack ripping out of her restraints to the music is honestly iconic, I love it.
The bridge saying: "for US" instead of "for Earth" hits different in the best way possible

I've been putting off doing Priority: Earth for a few days but after this I need to make that final push and tie up my first of many LE playthroughs!
The thing about this song is that it is the ultimate hype as it doesn't only hype the game, it hypes being alive in general.
In 2012 I was 13ish, maybe just turned 14. I didn't discover Mass Effect or your channel until I was 15 pushing 16. But, at the time, Mass Effect was my favorite game and it was looking for songs related to it that I found your channel and fell in love with your music. Last week I was on the other side of the country cleaning out my grandfather's basement because he had passed in December and the estate was letting my brother and I collect some stuff from his will finally. The whole time I played the new edition of the first Mass Effect religiously and it helped. Now, I'm listening to a remix of this, the song that cemented my interest in an artist that I've been following for almost a decade now. I can't describe the emotion that its made swirl in me, but seriously Gavin your music has been a cornerstone of my young adult life. And I have nothing but thankfulness to convey for this amazing new iteration of something thats deeply personal to me. You are a wonderful artist.

Mass Effect will always be the best video game franchise ever created in my honest opinion
I was so eager to see this today after your post Gav. The music is amazing as always and seeing a gem remastered, just like the amazing series it is based upon, is a gift that keeps on giving.
Still love the original version of this but the years of growth between now and then really make this a phenomenal definitive version imo.
THERE IT IS! One of my all-time favorite songs of yours. Thanks for the amazing Remake!
GAVIN.
YOU CAN'T JUST RE-RELEASE SOMETHING, MAKE IT BETTER, AND NOT EXPECT ME TO PUT IT ON LOOP FOR MONTHS AT A TIME!
I wasn't sure about the lyric changes at first but I LOVE the reference to Normandy, Nice one Gav!
Well damn Gav you managed to improve what was already one of my favourite songs of yours! In the process possibly ruining the old version cause I absolutely love how much more raw the guitars are! You never disappoint
I keep returning to this song two years later.
Thank you for your awesome songs
The shot of the crew shooting down from the Citadel DLC is perfect levels of Friendship
Amazing song that really encompasses the feeling of the games. A great homage.
Unless it wasn't there before, I JUST noticed the callback to "Normandy".
It was originally a callback to Commander Shepard. Personally, I think the Normandy line is superior. It brings up so many emotions.
The melodic reference was always there. Now it's lyrical as well.
This song was the one that got me into your music in the first place!! And to see a remastered version fills me with childlike glee!! Much love Gav. ❤️

Truly a renewed and improved banger - it is incredible how far you've come as an artist, Gav!
Maybe it just requires some getting use to, but I do miss the small tie-in parts with "From Omega to Mars" and "Shepard's on his way back home again". I get the wish to make it more universal, but I've personally always loved the way your songs are tied to the source.
I both do and don’t miss the tie ins. Because on the one hand, I love the mention of the reapers and Shepard’s story, but I didn’t really jive with the Shepard line, because I played nearly exclusively femshep and it threw me every time lol

@@Makverus that was my thought too! But no I'm pretty happy with the renewed lyrics. At hey, the callback to Commander Shepard was replaced by a callback to Normandy, a more mature and fitting song. Don't mind that at all.

When I first heard the original version, I hadn't played Mass Effect but I thought the song was ok. Now, with the updated, more universal lyrics, I absolutely love this song.
Still haven't played Mass Effect, but with this new Legendary Edition coming out, maybe I should.
You absolutely should, it's an amazing series, ain't nothing in the world like it.
Seriously go play it one of the best Sci-fi trilogies ever imo
Don't bother. It's actually really, really overrated as far as storytelling goes. The gameplay is a solid power-focused cover shooter, but the plot is your bog-standard messiah story. Hell, they even dropped what little subtlety they had with the ending being some guy in the far future telling their kid a story about "The Shepard." I haven't seen a plot point this blunt since the main protagonist of Deus Ex was _literally_ named "J.C."
I hope you didn't listen to the latest commenter, mass effect is truly worth playing. The gameplay might not be the best you've experienced but the story, characters and everything else make it up tenfold.
you really should at least give Mass Effect a chance before you listen to haters. i think that the story of a game, as well as feeling like you’re in the protagonist’s shoes (and loving them every second) makes one of the best game experiences you can have. And mass effect did that.
- the story will make you laugh, cry, and, want to see every possible dialogue option
- you will be in tune with shepard’s feelings (happiness, despair, anger, etc.) after almost every mission
- Wether playing as a paragon or renegade (essentially morally idealistic or really blunt/forceful) Shepard is a badass you will enjoy playing as
This brought back a lot of nostalgia. Not only because of the franchise but also that I used to hear this song of yours back when I was still in school
I miss “as a reaper comes to ground”
That line always gave me chills. Just picturing a mile long sentient ship landing next to you
@@ShakenBake145 yea, that’s why I wish it was in this one. The imagery of was great for the song, it brought the reaper threat to life.

I've been so excited for this! I've been refreshing my subscription feed all day!
The timing of this was almost perfect, I just started my first ever play through of the Mass Effect series. Gonna have this and all the other ME songs on repeat the whole time!
This is amazing!
I loved the first versions “we won’t fight this war alone my friends, Shepard’s on his way back home again” because of the imagery of everyone having given up, they’re losing, and Shepard shows up and suddenly the fighting spirit is revived.
But also, the new line that carries on from your song Normandy and that song is my overall favorite from your music.
So for me, either way is amazing, and I like how this version is a little more “if you know you know” while the other is more like a theme song very specifically for ME3. So now I can have both depending on the mood!
You are Mass Effect music genious! Please make more Mass Effect dedicated songs :) We love it
Beautiful work as always, Gav
I loved this song then, and I love it now.
I think this was the first song I heard from you.
Hard to believe it's been nine years already...
Keep up the amazing work!
Hi Gavin, thank you for both the original and the new versions. I am no gamer and have never played Mass Effect but the 2012 version has been my anthem for fighting clinic depression and finding hope in the darkest of times. I still prefer the old version, may be because l have lost count of the times l have listened to it but am sure this will grow on me. Going through a very dark phase again and glad for a new version of my favourite song to power me through! Love from lndia.
Doubt you'll see this, this far after you released it. But I really want to thank you for this song. When they released I played 1 and 2, but by the time 3 came out my saves had been lost and I was so frustrated I didn't buy 3.
I was unsure about getting the remaster, but I heard this song and decided to play them. I'm so happy I did. Reliving the first two games was enough of a reward in itself. But I'm playing 3 finally, and I just finished the Quarian main mission, and got the best ending, and actually cried. Tali was always my favorite character and romanced her in 2, and was so happy to see their scene after the mission, and I just cried. I don't care how the rest of the game plays out, that moment made it all worth it.
Great to see one of my favorite songs has been given new life.
Fantastic work Gav.
I didn't even know you were remaking this and yet it was still absolutely worth the wait. I bought the Legendary Edition on a whim and the trilogy has grown already to become my favorite series I have played. I think this song will follow suit.
We are finally meet remastered song about remastered Mass Effect.
HELL YEEE!!!!!
While I like the old version's solo at 3:27 (Because it felt more like it was raw emotion fueling Shepherd), I love a lot of the changes in this version. The smoother intro, especially.
Also, can I just say that, since I only really listened to the old version, and never saw it on RUclips, I always thought it was "For Earth, For All, For Glory". Feel kinda silly now seeing it's "For Us", but oh well.
The old version was "For Earth, for all, for glory" - that's one of the lyrics that got a touchup in this version.
I am genuinely crying...this is so amazing!
Oh My God!!! Thank you Gavin!! Another amazing masterpiece!! Thank you once again and keep rocking on!
Just got the notification, so I had to drop everything to listen to this
Update: Chills, the original was already amazing, but this version blew me away, especially the breakdown at 2:30
Great remaster! The new arrangement rocks in more ways than one. Personally, I preferred the old lyrics because of how well they tied into your previous ME songs (the callback to Commander Shepard especially, though I think I like the new reference to Normandy better), but that may be just because of how burned into my brain those songs are since I always prefer the original over the remaster.
I really love the way how perfectly every lyrics matches with the cutscenes.
I was excited for these rerecords before, but this really blew me away! Can't wait to see more!
These and the Dragon Age songs are 100% the best songs to run to. Always gives you that extra surge.
There's no Shepherd without Vakarian.
Absolutely fantastic. This was one of the very first songs that I heard from you (my first being the 'commander Shepard one). I'm not crying, you're crying!
Hey Miracle of Sound! Always happy to see more of your work, even a remake
I love the new lines as a whole, but I really miss "choking fear, screaming sound, as a reaper comes to ground."
I wish Sheppard could have had a happier ending. They really didn't think about the ending at all.
All I needed was Sheppard and Liara just having drinks in beach and I would have been satisfied. Or at least exploring for more Prothean artifacts.
Love every one of your releases!
This is so amazing, thank you Gavin)))
It´s a good listen, but I do prefer the rougher 2012 extended remix.
Love you gav, never stop what you are doing!
I really love this remaster song not only it's fantastic . If you compare it with the original version you can hear the growth , evolution and love Gavin has for making music and I don't think that will stop so keep doing what you love Gavin so we will have the miracle of sound.
ahhhhh, nice the adding effects!
So many memories... Great job, Miracle!
