I just graduated BMT and I have to say the AF Bootcamp is primarily focused on attention to detail and security... yes we have less combat and weapon training however we are the AirForce and realistically it’s about precision in repairing planes, coordinating Air strikes, working cyber systems... not primarily ground power and even with battlefield Airmen (ground power) they have a much more rigorous and modified BMT experience.

    Little Explanation:
In Air Force BMT you’re only assigned two MTI’s or drill instructors per “flight”. They are also not allowed to wear caps or headgear on inside.
    1. In Air Force BMT you’re only assigned two MTI’s or drill instructors per “flight”.
    2. They are also not allowed to wear caps or headgear on inside (idk why they were allowed at the beginning of the video)
    3. We were told to only call the room to attention when officers were present OR when we were in the dayroom we had to call the whole room to attention for anyone other than a trainee.
    4. To speak to an MTI (drill instructors) you would first have to come to attention and say you’re reporting statement “Sir/Ma’am trainee lastname reports as ordered” and if you failed to do this you would be ripped one.
    5. We had to wear our camo jackets with PT gear depending on how cold it is. Some things we weren’t allowed to wear because it wasn’t cold enough yet.
    6. During PT, when they were spreading their arms out, that’s called PT formation. They do this to give each other enough room. You don’t have to put both arms up if there isn’t anyone on one side of you (if there’s nobody to your left you only put your right arm up) But this depends on instructor too. Some make you use both arms no matter what.
    7. I don’t believe this video is accurate with the yelling. There was a lot more yelling and “typical boot camp” stuff going on, but this video makes it seem easy.
    8. If the MTI’s weren’t happy with the beds in the morning they would rip them up and make us re-do them. This usually only happened in the early weeks.
In my opinion this video isn’t really accurate. Maybe it is now, but when I was there (2 years ago) it wasn’t like this. They are filming in the dorms called “Disneyland” which the trainees call the newer dorms. “Alcatraz” are what they call old dorms and the Air Force hardly ever likes to show those to the public. Also, each squadron (army says platoon I believe) varies. Each squadron is inconsistent with others.

No its the same, this video doesnt give the yelling much credit because it diesnt even show the DFAC/Chowhall, where alot of yelling happens 😂. But yeah I came out of basic a year ago if its changed that much in the time Ive been out then damn.

things are always toned down when the cameras are rolling. That's understandable because each branch doesn't want the bad publicity you get from a DS/DI, or whatever said instructors are called in their respective branches, screaming in some privates face. From my experience though, the Airforce is and will always be the chill life. I'm not trying to come in here to measure dicks or anything like that but there is just a different mission and there are different physical requirements to do said mission for all military. That being said, I actually laughed out loud when you mentioned being ripped one. AF PT standards are a joke.

We don't seem to get yelled at as much as the army, marines or navy, but our instructors are just as effective. Most of our jobs tend to be more technical than other services so it makes sense to tailor the experience. 35K airman graduate per year and we are still the worlds greatest Air Force so something is happening right.

As someone who went through Army BCT when it was actually hard in 1989, and who re-upped into the Air Force in 2002, I can qualify that its two totally different mindsets to it, two uniquely different cultures, and the candidates are vastly different requiring different motivations. PT is hard, not Army hard, it's more like you have to do it on your own. It's like the difference between high school where the PE teacher is dragging you through the exercises to make you strong, and college where you are expected to show up already doing those things on your own. Put another way, it's like the Army is sprinting, while the AF is a marathon in mentality. It's just different and hard to put the finger on. Also, it's tiered, so you are still going through phases into your career training. For those going into Combat Arms, there is additional training, and yes, it's every bit as tough as the Army can be if not more so.

The guy who walked into the dorm was an enlisted member. We’re trained to say sir/ma’am regardless of rank. As far as PT we can wear whatever combination we want unless you’re going to be in a formation then everyone has to wear the same thing. And our hair basically just has to be up and out of our face for pt. I’m thinking they had on the jackets just in case it rained because our actual PT jackets don’t have hoods in them. When they had their arms up they were creating enough distance so they can do PT. The person with their left arm down was at the front of formation and the spacing was being created off their position so no need for the left arm to be raised. And the weapons you saw were for training .

I agree , show the Marines. I' m former Army M.P. Our training in or around 83 was way different I cant relate to this. This is what I wrote about our training then. This isn't what we went through back in 1983. Ft Mc Clellan one step unit training Military Police School. It was intense screaming all the time , getting dogged day and night. We were put in lockers at 0200 and thrown down stairs to simulate a mortar attack etc etc. This training is for sweethearts. Even this woman on this video is a sweetheart. Hard to believe she was a Drill Seargent. I never paid much attention to the female drills. We weren't worried about the female drills, we were worried about the male drills. Holding their arms out when you are running everywhere so you could hit into them and then be smoked forever. A lot of sht. No one laughed , no one talked, it was disciplined not like today. The Army basic is for cream puffs. This women is too soft to be a drill. We didn't call our drills Drill Seargent yes Drill Seargent no Drill Seargent . We just called them sergeant , No sergeant yes sergeant. When you say Drill Seargent it sounds like yes mommy yes dady. Our drills were f in strong and fit. Most looked like weightlifters. Built in shape and nasty until u graduated then they disappeared and an operation sergeant would give you your orders for your next duty station or school. U never saw them again.

AF addresses Drill Instructors by Sir/Ma’am. That video jumped between numerous flights throughout various stages of BMT. The T-shirt and pants combo is an authorized AF PT gear combination. The blue rifles are training M-16’s, only time they have real ones is during weapons qual and that’s with M-4’s now. Finally, the ABU coat with PT gear is a weird one, I’m guessing the temp was extremely cold that morning or something 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think I got them all.

I will say the AF obsicles were harder then the Army but that was about the only harder thing then the Army. I think a lot of recruites were killed on the obsticles so the AF changed it up. We had a girl break her neck. Other then that yeah it was a cake walk. The AF basic was more organized though . they Army focused more on a combative role and I enjoyed that more. The branches are very similar. Yet so different . im glad I did both no regrets other then not doing 20 years.

When I went through we had pt in the afternoon for the winter schedule. Last 2 days we were there it switched to summer so pt changed to mornings right after wake up. It's definitely more intense than what is showed.
This was also at the newer dorms(Disney land) for trainees, I was in the older dorms(alcatrez) and it was a different experience in the older dorms. I went through Jan 2019. Everything was set up different and from the 1940's. 8 shower heads for 50+ trainees, bunk beds, but better food than the new dorms I've heard. My mti would make you feel like a terrible inconvenience to him and he did a good job at at lol. Our other mti was cooler, and younger and whenever we disappointed him we always felt worse about ourselves.
I would love to be an mti if I got the chance. As soon as I get e5 in about 2 years I'm going to try to volunteer for that job. I would definitely be harder but still teach as good as my mtis taught myself and my fellow airmen.

@@MrILOVEALLHATERS basic isn't bad, I'm 27 so I was older than most guys in my flight and it made it easier to conform to the new rules. It all depends on your mti's, some are stricter than others.
When you wake up don't sit down when tieing your boot laces, shave the night before if if you have a lot of facial hair, some guys shaved twice a day. Don't talk when eating chow, volunteer for chow runner or anything really. Start doing pushups and sit ups and running 1.5 miles under 13 minutes, 15 for female. Sir or ma'am, trainee "last name" reports as ordered, will be your response to everything. Don't be afraid to shower with 50 other people, if your in the old dorms like I was the fastest way is minimum 3 to a shower head. Just use body wash for your whole body, you have no hair so get in and get out.
Take time to fold your clothes and roll your shirts, make your bed with a proper hospital corner, the video had a terrible example. It's a straight 45 degree angle. Eat a salad with lunch and dinner, so pushups and sit ups before going to bed when you're there to get ready for the 3 pt test you take while there. Bring your own running shoes, the ones they issue are trash.

So yes, this is Basic Military Training or Air Force Boot Camp. The AF doesn’t call their Military Training Instructors/MTI’s anything special. It is always yes sir or yes ma’am. Our MTI’s are what you would probably call Drill Sergeant. The courses are pretty nice but the training is not as intense. The blue “weapons” are fake...they’re simply for training and the look and feel. You can take them apart but they made it so you can not fire them. We are taught how to take it apart but not how to clean it. Not every Airman is able to fire real bullets because if the range is under construction like it was when I went there you will shoot blanks. When it comes to the dorm cleaning...we are not allowed to make our beds by ourselves, that is the Air Force trying to teach us how to work as a team and not an individual...even though we can make our own beds. If you get caught making your bed by yourself you are reminded of why you don’t in a not so pleasant tone. The women in the video that had high buns are out of regs, pony tails are allowed if they are regular or low but not high...buns are worn low at all times. We are allowed earrings but not until you graduate basic and you are allowed nail polish and fake nails if they are a certain color, length, and depending on what your job is. For PT they were wearing their Apex because when it’s cold that is all we have aside from the thin PT jacket. During warmup we all wear the exact same PT combination of the uniform but once we start the actual workout...we can wear whatever combo we want. There are more MTIs during shakedown but there are only two MTIs per flight. You can be yelled at by other MTIs from other flights but the ones that are always in your face are the two assigned your flight and occasionally your brother flight or cousin flight MTIs. The AF really focusing on the Core values more than anything else and a lot of what we learn with cleaning and whatnot is attention to detail. There is less yelling than what you’re used to...I’m sure. The video you watched is kind of so so because anyone with a camera in their face tends to act differently but the things we do in general they did a pretty good job of showing. I hope this helped answer some of your questions.

Everything is Yes Sir/Ma'am or No Sir/Ma'am. Hemming up comes from fucked up reporting statements.
Air Force only allots 2 MTIs to a flight, but they usually take opposite shifts. Once will come in for the morning and leave at noon, and the other will come in at noon and stay until lights out. An MTI of the same sex may stay longer or come in earlier. MTIs of the opposite sex are not allowed in the barracks after lights out.

In Air Force Drill instructors go by Sir/Ma’am. It’s not an officer thing. Also, seems like this is halfway through their basic training. Also ALSO, cameras are rolling so it’s watered down

the high crawl is hard bc it's at the end of the course, 35 yards uphill, through torn up tires and you feel the dust breathing in 😂

I am in the air force and this is a lot more relaxed than what I went through. My MTIs rocked our crap until we weren't in the 23rd anymore and on our way to tech school. We got smoked on the day of graduation because our dorm wasn't inspection ready.

Oh, that sucks. I did OSUT (which is like super extended basic, no AIT/School environment or anything and it was 4 months because all combat MOS have to do OSUT now) and the night before graduation we got smoked to shit. Like badly. Even by our standards it was bad. It sucked. We didn't even do anything wrong (which means nothing in Army) but the Drills walked in and decided to just randomly fuck up our entire company. You could hear other platoons in their squad bays getting fucked up. It was pure Hell. Lol

I can’t even finish watching this. Ft. Banning would traumatize these poor bastards. To hear them not acknowledge commands is infuriating lol. This is a joke lol
