The Volvo looks beautiful.
The Polestar should be driven in Sport mode! Do you know that there are Öhlins dampers which are adjustable (complaining of more roll)? When you turn DSTC off more power are sent to the rear.
I don't understand if you are looking for performance why wouldn't you use sports mode. Baffled here mainly when she said more body roll? Sigh

That GARBAGE which volvo towing on rear axle is able to handle maximum 220NM for 30sec. But you mentioned POWER, which demonstrate you have absolutely no clue about how runs and how could be destroyed a diff or a multiplate clutch (center "diff" from haldex)
So.. sleep peaceful as until now, then play again games to learn about cars.. or read showroom details from the list😂😅

Arend Mookhoek Almost all new cars are safe. It was 20 years ago when Volvo and Saab were the only companies synonymous to safe. Now new BMW 3 and even 1 series comes with 5 stars on the crash tests. Ford makes good chassis,but engines...ehhmmm NO.

rudkacka Yes,true that they focus much more on safety than other manufacturers. I used to like Volvo,but since they moved to FWD,they lost me completely.
A customer of mine has a v60 polestar it's incredible, I only had the chance to drive it about 30ft to park it up but felt incredibly powerful and really luxurious

She left the traction control on, on the volvo (2:10). Imagine how much faster she would be even more with it off.
She could have used the secret super sport mode as well. Which splits 50% power between front and back, and the car revs higher while holds gears for longer. It even changes how intrusive the assistance systems are, being even more permissive.
I love them both. 2 of my favorite cars are the Volvo 850R and the BMW e46.

@@Conceptcreator i assume you never drove the later generation volvo’s? I currently own a v60 but the interior is absolutely garbage compaired to the old s60 models. Full of cheap Chinese plastic and the seats suck.

for every single ignorant person here. volvo's have a very good racing history, have always made comfy cars, the new s90 compete with BMW, Mercedes and Audi, and they have an XC90 with their own v8 engine competing with supercars, and when I think about it there is a supercar with that v8 engine which is just as fast as a Lamborghini Aventador. and yes, i know yamaha produced that v8 for volvo, but still, can you guys imagine a XC90 driving past supercars on a race track? it have to look hilarious.

+moe fo sho Are you BLIND or something? The Alpina was in the dry when she did the hot lap AND the initial laps for driving impressions. The fucking Volvo was the one who out-gripped the B3 EVEN IN THE RAIN.
Not blind. Footage from the "hot lap" is both in rain and dry....
+AdrianC12345 I see varying weather conditions. I'm pretty sure they had several hours to film this and did the lap times in similar (dryish/damp) conditions.
+moe fo sho The BMW's footage is mixed, but when it crosses the finish line you see its in the dry, yet when you see her driving in the v60, there is rain on the windows.

Quite surprised to see how close the D4 gets to the Polestar in lap time. It would be interesting to see how much power the Volvo actually puts to the ground in comparison to the Alpina.
The comment about the 850R being the last great volvo completely overlooks the S60R and V70R along with the S80 T6, C30 T5, and S80 V8.

I own a V60 T6 Polestar and have had many bmw's they are much safer than bmw yes but wouldn't say its more luxurious id say they are on par with each other at best, dont get me wrong i love my volvo its an amazing car and shocks the hell out of people at the lights because its just an unsuspecting volvo estate.. people dont expect it to be as quick as it is.

Volvos had the R cars all along since the 1990s. 850R, s60R/v70R. Then they went to the s60/v60/xc60 Polestars.
I had a 99 s70 AWD turbo. That little car was a monster. I actually smoked a Chevy SS with it.
Spooled it up at the light (hard brake and just enough gas) . Let off the brakes and it launched like an animal.

okay, anybody knows the actual weight of the alpina? the alpina sites states this d3 estate at 1660 kilos unladen.. I know the polestar is nearly 2 tonnes and probably is with fuel and driver... so I think it's a pretty good win for the volvo despite lugging the extra weight

My 2017 Rebel Blue S60 is a hard to find sleeper car that's beaten most everything. Driving skills is also a leverage.

Diesel engines torque and petrol ones are not comparable. With maximum rpm in the 4000 to 4500 area instead of 6000-6500 so the gear ratios are longer and the actual torque available to the wheels is reduced. You have to multiply that by a factor of around 0.7 for a fair comparison. Or just compare the power.
What is the difference between HP and torque actually?

redbowman750 Torque is the amount of work an engine can do, power is the time you need to do a certain amount of work. One horsepower = 33000 lb-ft per minute.

Martijn Bruggers AWD is a system you can use while driving on Tarmac but when you get stuck one wheel will spin. 4WD is when power is sending 50% to rear and Front which keeps at least two wheels spinning cannot use on Tarmac. Now Land Rovers come with Full Time 4WD with a Differential Lock. AWD vehicles do not have Differentials. 4WDs have a transfer case with HI and Low Gearing

+Gaming 4 Ohio I wouldn't say Steve is completely wrong. AWD can have what he stated. Many conventional systems use a center differential and at least one more on one of the drive axles. Difference between it and a true 4x4 is the transfer case that can lock and multiply torque to each axle. Part time or electronically activated 4WD systems can do this automatically however do not have a locking feature in the t-case, thus enabling the vehicle to travel appropriately when speed differences are needed between the two axles.

I might not be a Volvo fan but that V60 Polestar is fast. But I should take it in sedan form. And that is the S60 Polestar.
V60 is very nice apart from ridiculously small luggage space. But there's always the V70/V90 of course. Not sure if the Polestar is different from the regular cars but the V60 D4 I drove has horrible column assist steering. Just like a Vauxhall Corsa.
I too prefer a V70! The squarish rear looks defines Volvo's true estate car character.
Wish the test was conducted on a dry track, the Beemer has a handicap vs the 4x4 system of the Volvo in the rain...

idzmir fahmy well here in Norway there is arranged big meetings at lakes that is cleared for snow so it looks like a race track, and then we run track times and drifting competitions, and sometimes they open ACR Arctic Circle Raceway during the winter, who does not enjoy driving on ice?

I am right now leasing a BMW M235i. When I finish the lease I was told by my dealer that they would give me a fantastic deal on an M2. I would love to take that but, ugh I really want a Polestar S60 but, the price is quite a bit higher. What would you people take? M2 (maybe an M3) or the S60 Polestar?

Performance diesels like this will be a fecking nightmare to maintain after a few years. They're too complex - EGRs, DPFs, all get caked in crap. I've tried it - back to petrol for me : )

So we are comparing petrol vs diesel. No surprise whatsoever that the petrol won, even if it takes 0.4 more seconds to reach 62mph. Both cars are performing excellent, and any of them should give you a pleasant experience.
0.28 seconds is a pretty hollow victory. I'd take the BMW personally.

0.3 of a second on rain and volvo is 4wd come on you can see the wet track and rain when you driving bmw and when volvo was out it was almost dry.

There is a massive difference between 8 speed and 6 speed gearbox car performance.

+yamahaevo 6 speed on BMW should also be ZF.
Anyway gearshifts are faster because there is not a lot of RPMs to drop. Also engine always enjoys sweet spot. With 6 speed it is not always the case.
