Please put this into production and let the world know Volvo is returning to the fast car market. Not only Germany can produce fast car. I am one of many who are now driving Volvo.
Sadly, Volvo is lost. Volvo (and Sweden in general) is too environmentally concious for Volvo to make a performance combustion vehicle ever again. The downfall began with the last T5 and T6.
Who loves germans cars, never drove a Volvo. Volvo has the most comfortable seats in the car market, nowadays. Furthermore, Volvo makes cars which are very safe. Safety and comfort is in first place for Volvo. They aren't like the germans who only care about performance. Those old times where people thought that the germans build the best cars, are gone. It´s great that Volvo creates cars like this one, the Volvo Polestar S60. This really shows that germans aren't alone in the market. Volvo for life.
FazonPlays Well, i guess they didn't see a point in continuing the RWD models when they could go AWD. But remember, if you got the ambition to tinker with a car, an old Volvo will take quite a bit of abuse as all the part except the engine are a lot bigger and tougher than they need be.
This guy did a great job with the video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 V O L V O I started w an S40 in 2000 and loved it, as a general porpous car, then jumped onto a 2003 S60 t5 Really nice drive and fun enough for a daily drive, very safe and extremely comfortable for any kind of situation Any beat the crap of lots of Germs, but still had the favor for my e46 m3, Only for the extreme moments and not as an every day driver, to stiff and not as safe nor as comfortable as my t5, suddenly S60 r came on the scene, finally 2005 got me chance to get it and added a few moods to it, I turned into a dream all situation driving ultimate pleasure, m3 has to go so as t5, x3 3.0 replaced by an xc90 2004 t6 and so far I still drive them both, so far very sitisfied and happy to have taken the choice, s60r 400 bhp only goes out twice a week now but still a very nice pleasure to drive after 14 years, so as xc90 t6 320 bhp you can say I do honored the moto VOLVO for life, hopefully I can get my hands on a polestar any time soon..
As a 70 year old Volvo enthusiasts, Volvo seats have always been the most comfortable in a car all the way back to my 1961 122S Amazon that I bought when I was 19 in 1968. 10 Volvos later (I still have 4 and the newest is a 1998 V70 Cross County with 228,000 miles on it) the seats are still ver comfortable. Maintenance is the key to keeping a car road worthy. In December of 2016, I flew to California and drove back my 1989 Volvo 760 Turbo to Georgia through a blizzard 6 below zero at night without a problem.
I've waited long enough for another manufacture who stands up to mess with german cars! I'm from germany. I like german cars ... but I'm bored of this monotony on the street. Now I got a alternative car. I like it's shape, I like it's design, I like it's power and I think volvo should produce more of such great cars!
Great video BUT they should have tested the non prototype polestar (much slower and much more set up for daikly traffic) which is real competition for M3 and RS4
As a proud owner of a volvo and a motor enthusiast I love that this even happened. I don't care if anyone else does. And as far as some of you saying that Polestar did this for themselves: this car is on the floor at the chicago auto show as we speak. Obviously Volvo is curious at how something like this might be received...and they've definitely interested me. I love german cars. But I like seeing others beat them at their game or at least make an attempt by upping the ante.
I am a VOLVO S60 T5 proud owner and a very happy one too, I must say I have nothing to complain about only good things to say...GOOD GOOD STUNNING, and so pleased to see the POLESTAR and want one so badly...well done VOLVO, well done SWEDEN
You have to understand that he jokes around a bit at the same time he is serious. It does not translate well if you're not a native Swede... You also have to understand that the Swedish people (especially the motor-community) needs something to be proud of. Since volvo used to have a more performace line-up during the 90's. Since then, volvo have got chineese owner, saab has gone bust (screwed and abandond by GM). Simply put. We need this!
Volvos are only produced in China for the market over there, there's also Malaysia and Thailand. But most of the ones anyone would get in the western hemisphere are made in Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Canada.
Good to see a BMW guy actually giving other cars credit for a change. Instead of bashing all other cars and praising BMW like an ignorant child. Kudos.
I have a 12' BMW E92 M3 Coupe and I am a huge fan of this Volvo S60 Polestarr, although I hope Volvlo makes a 2-Door Coupe if this does ever go in to production. The M3 has always been a car with a chassis looking for a more powerful engine. Glad to see Volvo join the club.
volvo just got some more respect from me. and im a german car nut. their last few cars just look awesome, and if they start making these kinda versions you can add them to the european greatest list
I understand your reasoning, but thisVolvo is not a joke..getting from just a 3.0 inline 6 engine these amazing figures is really impressive (508hp,0-100 3.9 secs). It has a power of 374kW! Compare this with 309kW of BMW V8 M3 and 331kW of 4.2 V8 Audi RS5. Dont forget this is not a small car, its well above 1500 kgr and still provides for exceptional handling. Its not me telling these, there are tens of references on the internet, its reviewed by top gear and many well known motor specialists..
I could not agree more! There is something special about Volvo, and I hope more than anything that they accomplish what they strive to do with the new Volvo s60 Polestar. And who knows, maybe one day Volvo will be competing against more powerful cars, like M3, RS4 and maybe SL. Would be awesome!
Except the fact that it's a fast car, Volvo is the car with the first ever seatbelts and airbags. Which all GERMAN cars use now. Call it a family car, call it ugly, call it slow. But that's a car in which no person will die from a car crash.
Stormcloak Shreds Huge Volvo fan and owner here but i just wanted to fact check you on a few things. Volvos were the first cars with seatbelts but actually it was Oldsmobile that first equipped airbags. Also, plenty of people will die from car crashes in modern Volvos, they are very good at avoiding collisions and protecting people in the event of a collision but there is still a limit to their protection.
Ho made the seatbelts mercedes benz airbags by ford ... What made volvo ? ABS made and created by bosh germany turbo made and created by BMW jet engines same shit first turbo diesel car VW GTD golf first turbo europe productie car BMW 2002 turbo first n/a diesel car benz first ever made car on petrol benz ! Germans have the best engineers of the world like it or not
+Stormcloak Shreds "But that's a car in which no person will die from a car crash. " Utter nonsense. No car is death proof. Try driving one into a wall at 100km/h. Even with a seatbelt and airbag you're dead. Without a seatbelt you can sit in the safest car in the world, you'll still hit the dashboard at the speed the car travels in when it crashes. Seriously, how old are you?? Mercedes had airbags on their luxury cars in the early 80's, long before Volvo equipped them. Some American manufacturers already tested them in the late 70's but eventually removed them because they went off unexpectedly. As for seat belts. Volvo did invent the *three point seat belt* but the regular waist seatbelt appeared in German and American cars in the 1940's already. Get that right. And the safey. Listen. Go check out EuroNCAP crash tests. Back in 2002-2006 Volvo was leapfrogged by French, Italian and German cars who all did better in the crash tests for their respective car sizes. Today Volvo does well but they're not THE BEST - that's a commercial slogan they have gullible and easily swayed people eat up. Pretty much ALL modern cars are very safe today. EuroNCAP tests don't lie.
I've been driving the US street version of this car (2013 S60 R) since May, and while it certainly is not anything like this beast, it's one hell of a car. If you're looking in the 40-45K range for a real nice, high performance car, see if you can find a dealer that has an 'R' and test drive one before you buy one of the other Euro contenders. I'm 60 , and this is the fourth car I've owned in my life, three previous were Volvo's, owned them a total of 40 years, nephew still driving last one.
As a Volvo salesman I'm a bit Biased. The S60 T6 AWD Polestar I just sold yesterday is an absolute beast. I think the whole point people are missing is that Volvo was never even in this conversation and now all the sudden they are kicking on Audi,BMW and Lexus's door. Look at the market data for sales and you'll see. Numbers are numbers.
Volvo recognizeable design is that have a huge shoulder in the rear, and that was effective for a side impact, others brands just got smack out, oh and also Flashback : that 3 Point setabelts that you see in nowadays car are born from volvo and volvo company reallize that 3 point seatbelts is important in a every cars so they didn't patent it.
This wasn't a test of value for money or power or comparability. This was a test of ideals. They took Audi and BMW performance cars and put them up against a Volvo performance car, just to show what Volvo can do if you let them loose. Price and equality is another matter entirely. If Volvo were to enter the performance car market, they'll obviously have to do some changes if the S60 Polestar is to be competitive in the market.
As long as Volovo does not introduce an after market opponent to AMG, M or RS models, it is no fair show. When it comes to comparing prototypes, you could also use the VW Design Vision GTI. 3.0l TSI, 509 PS, 500 nm at 2000 rpm and 560 nm max.
It is the driver who determines fast or not. The car only a vessel, but the brain and skills are under the steering wheel. For sure I choose Volvo ! Volvo for Life...
Finally I can love something other than my '89 740 GLE 16-Valve. This is the sexiest car ever, thank you Polestar and Volvo; but most of all, thank you Sweden xx
Checked. Hey I did not say that any of the above cars are bad, all are in fact awesome, and I would be happy to own them, including the fastest production volvo as well. But I just love the RS4, I just love it... :)
can u tell me the price of a M3 prototype or the RS4 prototype? remember the BMW and Audi is already in production while the Volvo is not, if thy decided to mass produce the car the price would have fell don't u think?
it's no longer a prototype. if you check the volvo webpage it says coming soon. at least that's what it says for puerto rico (pronto disponible en puerto rico)
I just stumbled across this video again: What a cool car the S60 was - and still is. M3 is legend ! But: With the B8 RS4, Audi had built one of the best cars at the time. Dynamic almost in the M3 league, looks great and can be driven all year round. Especially if you live in the Alpine countries. We currently live in Germany, where our C7 RS6 is great for family and highway driving. But back in Switzerland I would like to buy an RS4 B8. Just for the sake of the sound...
I completely agree with you about the personal experience and feel.. Believe me, I'd rather have a fun and involving car than something that is 10 times as fast but completely alienates the driver from the driving. Since this video doesn't show anything unknown about the car, the least they could do is give us some lousy lap times. Guess I should be patient, and wait for someone to say, how good this car really is to drive...
Soooo... Vulva needs a one-off prototype with roughly 100hp power advantage, and with double prize to compete and win against BMW and Audi with mass produced cars? Woohoo, I'm so thrilled!
No, it's the same size and style of cars against each other. What's the point in pitting the "best" car each manufacturer makes if their "best" cars are completely different? An R8 would wipe the track clean against an M6, and what would that prove? We have 3 almost identical sized 4 door, 4 seat saloons - now THAT makes an interesting race! :-)
nice place, nice game, nice car's, nice black/white to color picture, for 2mil. or what ever... try to complaint German & Japan race cars :-), but this test say nothing...(oftp: which tires was used on this cars?) > ;-) I drive Volvo V60 D5 (R-Design) & I think this is a new china car (with very nice look & I love it)
I will be impressed if the production version of this car is AS FAST as this limited edition now is. The problem with it now is that with the money you could almost by both, the M3 and a RS4. So basically this should be racing against a Lamborghini..
I see people don't like change by looking at the comments below. Maybe the price of the Volvo is a bit high but whats the price of a R8 or the new M6 those are in their 100s (£). So why can't Volvo do it? I actually really like the volvo because it's the underdog and I would love to see a Polestar V60 in the future, that would be awesome!
The biggest difference between the Volvo and the other cars is that I can buy the others! Volvo wake up and take this car in production, instead teasing us with another hot prototype!!
+RobK0304 Agreed. This prototype seems like the perfect Volvo-Polestar automobile but right now you might as well just buy a used E46 M3 and get yourself quality.
"Adults with 9 year old brains". But anyway. Don't get me wrong, the M3 is one of my favourite cars, but I just took a look at Polestar's website. They claim that the 4WD and Ohlins suspension make it an excellent high performance vehicle and long distance traveller. I'd just like to keep in mind that the Polestar is just a concept. Nothing is definite, it hasn't been refined. One example is the gearbox, it's notchy and manual. Plus, this test isn't Volvo's idea. It's [automotorsport.se]'s.
Please put this into production and let the world know Volvo is returning to the fast car market. Not only Germany can produce fast car. I am one of many who are now driving Volvo.
i still believe!!!

I'm an M fanboy and this car looks amazing. If it were ever developed and was priced similarly to the M3, I'd have to do some serious reconsidering.
If Volvo were to enter the performance car market, they'll obviously have to do some changes if the S60 Polestar is to be competitive in the market.
this S60 looks like Europe's Sedan version of GT-R :
- impressive Engine
- impresive Handling
- far less Attractive
i wish we actually got this car
Where is the Problem. Polestar is Volvo's Racing Partner for years. They tested what is possible.
As long as Volovo does not introduce an after market opponent to AMG, M or RS models, it is no fair show. When it comes to comparing prototypes, you could also use the VW Design Vision GTI. 3.0l TSI, 509 PS, 500 nm at 2000 rpm and 560 nm max.

you missed the fact that 50 are being sold in Australia, and the price tag is $110k :)
LOOK FOR THE "Bring The Polestar S60 Into Production" page on Facebook to petition Volvo to get this car made!
As always, I am more biased towards German cars, but this car is not bad either.... Nice attempt Volvo, put it into production...
The 3 cars compared are in de same segment, because of that they are compared in this video, which is not about the best car in each brand
Yeah i agree but check the link.
I will be impressed if the production version of this car is AS FAST as this limited edition now is. The problem with it now is that with the money you could almost by both, the M3 and a RS4. So basically this should be racing against a Lamborghini..
Great car, but lots of work to be done if its going to become a reality. We live in hope.
03:00 : MAXIMUM ATAKK! :-)
Nice car!
The biggest difference between the Volvo and the other cars is that I can buy the others! Volvo wake up and take this car in production, instead teasing us with another hot prototype!!
They are still in the same class.
That car is a beast!
It is going to be in production.
I thought this was in german at first but the words sound swedish/norwegian. Swedish right?
This smells like patriotism :p
OK when it's an off the shelf production car that i can walk into a dealer and buy i'll get excited. Until then...this is nonsense!!
I was very impressed as I'm a fan of the S and RS line and ///M, until the very end.. Prototype not in production... hmm potential for sure
That's a prototype.. the real one has 350hp and has gotten a downgrade in terms of the bodykit.
+Mikael Soltaniha and is only with an automatic gearbox...
+RobK0304 Agreed. This prototype seems like the perfect Volvo-Polestar automobile but right now you might as well just buy a used E46 M3 and get yourself quality.
+Mikael Soltaniha I'm in love with my S40 as a daily driver, so I'll stick with it for a while
RobK0304 Of course. My 850 2.5t works excellent as well.
@Omega08082 The prototype costed that much. If they are going to make it will obviosly not cost that much... -.-'
Well they wanted to really show volvo done something new with 508hp with super handling.
the racing guy was like the stig
It doesnt matter what car it is. Im saying the guy thinks highly of this car because its from the same country he is.
What is the song at 0:55 ?
Yeah, i´m sorry... I posted that before watching the whole vid, thanx
Only comes in with an automatic in US. That's a big miss with a sports car so I don't see it taking any major market share away from BMW or Audi.
