@@WasatchWind I'm not sure about that. Though much of the current research in ML is focused on efficient learning from minimal data, information theoretic limits still apply; you cannot produce information out of nothing (think the fictional "enhance" of crime procedurals). Most deep models use outside data to fill in that gap with a conditional best-estimate. But when the outcome space is intractably large, like permutations of human images, exogenous training data is often not enough and problem specific data (images your target) is required.
@@jinmushui1soul I want to agree with you, but the "this person does not exist" site really makes you wonder just how exponential our tech advancement really still is..
@@mlk0-0 Yeah, a GAN (generative adversarial network) solves a different kind of problem. In short, it constructs a distribution over believable faces and samples from that distribution. Training that model took hundreds of thousands to even billions of high-quality photos, and extra information is added via random vectors added/concatenated in the encoding space (assuming some kind of autoencoder type architecture, haven't bothered to read the specific paper cited on that site). Don't get me wrong, GANs are an important advancement in ML, but when you know what's under the hood, especially the amount of data they require to train, it's not all that unbelievable. In some ways, the real advancements have been in the hardware that allows such models to be learned in a reasonable amount of time.

@@skullcullbonez_ someone clearly didn't do their research
I'm curious if you happened to hear about the H3H3 podcast members getting scammed while attempting to buy baseset Pokemon cards. They were another case of someone who knows nothing about Pokemon cards trying to set a price record, and ultimately getting scam
med. It's super obvious the second they pull the boxes out. I physically cringed for them
this is entirely new to me and it’s definitely freaky but I appreciate that you made it chill enough that I won’t be up all night freaking out about this
I take it back, I am in fact, afraid

@@joekenwood4956 Well yeah I'd definitely rather the little good content on Tiktok than the entirety of Twitter
I know Jarvis is questioning how accurate the portrayal of Tom Cruise is but in all honesty, I would say this is a very accurate portrayal. This is the man who jumped up and down on Oprah’s couch.
7:56 great example of a perfectly convincing deep fake
12:08 Oh, I thought it was a comment on the article about the cheerleading mom 😅
Therapist: hard rock Jarvis isn’t real, don’t worry

The fake was done by DEEPFAKERS here on youtube. They're a small channel that provides a lot of funny deepfake content, you should check them out!

this is literally what all those cyber safety classes warned me about in 1st grade. they claimed that if I posted photos of myself online, people could doctor them onto other things and make it look like i did something i didn't. well...
The new camera angle has me thinking that Jarvis deep faked this whole video
0:23 that laugh triggered my fight or flight response
My brothers and I love the deepfakes that admit they're deepfakes or are openly known it's fake, as long as they aren't lying and tricking people. We like to show the ones we find to each other and it's impressive and funny. My favorite is "Home Stallone", they put Sly Stallone's face on Kevin in Home Alone, hilarious stuff and harmless. But yeah, people could do nefarious things and that would be not cool.
i’m a little face blind so bill hader turning into tom cruise like,,, didn’t do anything for me. it didn’t register as a change :( i’m sad that sounds neat
Same
That really sucks, sorry to hear that 😔
Me too, I didn't notice anything weird about any of these >~
Not me only just now noticing I might be face blind
I could mostly only tell when it stayed that way for a bit.
"they won't be doing this a year from now"
me, a year after this video was posted, having just heard about the atrioc thing: 😬
I'm so so glad you talked through this video and didn't leave long gaps of silence and point out when the effect happens in the interview part because the uncanny valley effect hurts my brain and genuinely kind of scares me.
I'm a person that struggles with sleep paralysis demons sometimes on a rare full moon type deal /aka once in a while
And things like that, so this effect reminds me of things that haunt my nightmares.
Deep fakes have always scared me, since I heard of them a few years ago they’ve become eerily real looking. The speed at which technology is progressing tells me that soon it’ll be as easy as photoshop became with FaceTune. Imagine all the harm that will continue to be done at grander scales. Thus far a lot of women have already been harmed by deep fake nsfw content.
Me, with face blindness, nodding as if I can see the Tom Cruise face shift
My favorite deepfakes are the ones that Ollie made for Josh for his Christmas gift! It always cracks me up watching them again especially Josh’s face on the Dior model😭
I’ve been a big fan of Miles Fischer and his Tom Cruise impersonation for so long. I’m glad deep fake tech has given him a bigger audience.
As an AI engineer, I can say that deep fakes are getting better every single year. However, AI algorithms for detecting deep fakes are also getting better. The way current deep fake algorithms place faces on frames are not like regular photoshop edits, so AI algorithms can learn to detect the way deep fakes do changes and exploit that to detect them
There is also the fact it'll get to the point where we can't tell difference with eyes and we have to rely on this tech entirely
I for one will be happy when our AI detecting overlords far surpass us and we have to rely on them for ensuring that anything is real
@@snakewithapen5489I agree exept replace AI with Zeffo.
