two things 1. seriously nobody bother Collectibles Guru / Jake on my behalf. Please join me in wishing him the best. Genuinely. 2. something happened in the exports with the images being fuzzy. my bad
It was so obvious that this was a total scam from the start. Dude was sooo "RED FLAG!" right away. In a legit deal, the seller would be like "I'm excited to see you RIP this!" Or "this is a big moment man. So exciting!" NOT "does this look fake?" And "does it look resealed?". Bro YOU KNEW
And not "I wasn't sure if you were gonna open the box today." This really was the only quote we needed to hear to know he was aware of the whole thing. A guy who says Pokemon is the only thing he's nostalgic about would've urged them to open the box on stream while he was around if he didn't know it was resealed
@@erikasakura7721 This. "Omg I'm SO nostalgic over this stuff! I love it! It's like crack to me! Ok here is the item I am apparently so udderly fond of and can't stop thinking about. @@chrish4439 There is nothing wrong with collecting cards just for money but scamming people just is the issue here. It is pretty obvious he knew about the scam a probably resealed the pack himself but we cant be 100% sure.
I think that the most telling thing with this is the fact that he repeatedly says "You should have reached out to me personally." It is such a common manipulation tactic, implying that things we have literally seen with our eyes aren't happening right in front of us and instead that he is the only true source of information. I didn't believe this guy was a charlatan before then. But liars and grifters always get upset when someone calls them out without giving them the opportunity to lie and grift some more.
@@BroudbrunMusicMerge When the otherside of the story has a history of lying or spreading half-truths, you shouldn't give them an opportunity to seem legitimate unless you are absolutely sure that they will act in good faith. Otherwise, you end up giving them a platform to spread their rhetoric whilst seeming like a legitimate source of information.
@@BroudbrunMusicMerge If you saw what happened, you don't need to let those involved twist it around and "explain" it. That's done so much nowadays. People do things, which is documented, and then say they weren't doing it, or that they didn't mean it that way, and stuff like that, and gullible people believe that bs. So, suddenly the person who did what was said and proofen is the poor victim and the good guy. That's how Donny does it, and that's how a loooot people do it. Conspiracy Idiots too. They say, one should listen to both sides and respect different opinions, but in reality, the earth isn't fing flat, no matter any opinion.
He also screams narcissist. That’s why he continues to say the same thing over and over to Jarvis and not respond to his comments but expects Jarvis to respond to his wants even though Jarvis is continuously asking for proof of the things he is accusing him of. This is also a tactic used for manipulation. Jarvis realized early on he was talking to a wall and he was. Narcissist’s hate being called out for who they really are, so that’s why he is in major defense mode. He is also an abuser from how he speaks to that other RUclipsr and I can tell that this is why he has a relationship with Logan in the first place. Logan is the same way.
If you watch the video you can hear them say there are modern day cards in there so either he scammed or the person he bought them off of scammed the big question is either way why isn't he trying to throw the person that sold him the cards under the bus because I thought they were locked in a gun safe for how many years if all this is true there's only two people that could have Ben the scammer and with all the red flags he put out like you say my money's on him being the scammer why else would he not be able to get a refund and were the police even involved on top of the comments it's a pretty damning don't you think
Moral of the story: Don’t try to come for Jarvis, you can’t shake a guy who pays attention to his own details and intelligently responds to any comment.
I was obsessed with Beanie Babies around age 8 and there was a (probably nonsense) rumor that they were closing BB factories to produce more Pokémon cards because they were becoming more popular. My friends and I, devastated, gathered together in a circle to chant and send our prayers up (via balloon) to end the Pokémon menace. So sadly, had we met in 1st/2nd grade, you would have been my sworn enemy in the brutal war of the childhood collectibles.
@@nossyeee8822 I like them because of the messages that they share through their music. Some topics are loving yourself, the education system and how it corrupts the brains of the students, and also about really serious things like anxiety, depression, and suicide. Along with that they advocate against and with many things like mental health of children and teens, the prejudice that they get for just being Korean/ any minority, and domestic abuse on children, teens, and young adults. Along with those things: they are just funny individuals who are basically family to one another. They all have different minds and backstories, which they talk about so much. If you ask others, they may say something similar but everyone has their own reasons.
I mean I absolutely agree with doing that, whether harassment was happening or not, Jarvis probably prevented quite a bit of it after the facts by saying it's not okay here.
Let’s stop beating around the bush. Collectibles Guru knowingly tried to sell them a resealed 1st ed base set booster box for $350,000. He didn’t know they were going to open it up right then and there, and when they did, he started sweating and over explaining. Bro got caught with his pants down and is now doing damage control. This dude needs to go back to the used car dealership he came from.
Exactly people in his defense talk about the original seller being real, obviously baldy bought the genuine box and opened it himself didn't he have the box for a month before he actually sold it?
@@Snapmaw And if that's the case and he really got money back from the original seller, that would mean that the original seller got totally screwed over.. Sold his box, some douchbag opened it up and now demands his money back... What a prick.
Just going to add that if you pay attention to only what is said through the original video of the potential sale, the "Guru" explains how a box could possibly have said damage. Since these boxes sat in a safe as they allegedly did and when obtaining the box.... pure speculation here.... if the "Guru" intended on scamming this would provide a perfect opportunity to obtain the least aesthetically pleasing box. After the resealing of the box it would provide him an excuse as to why there is damage in the event that he did not need to be present for the box opening as it seemed by his verbal reaction that he was unaware of this information.
Translation from him - “you made me look like a scammer and now I’m getting roasted.” Real situation - you put a spotlight on my shady ways and I refuse to take responsibility for it.
What does he mean "I'm out 50k of my own money"... What happened to the narrative that he was promised a refund from the seller if it proved fake? just another lie?
yeah right... It seems like a bullshit story said by an old guy with a long white beard, it is just stupid how people can humor a non substancited story... But ill stay quite in my corner and read whaever is said
He said he bought it at the price a month ago. And since then the price has sky-rocketed. So the 55k is the difference between the price at the time he bought it and the price now. But im sure that he didnt lose any money. Cuz where were the cards in the original pack?? That's my thought
6:31 it says he got 100k of the 155k he bought it for refunded so he's out 55k there. Then if you compare the 375k he was gonna get for it with the 155k he paid for it you get the 220k he claims as lost profit which confirms he paid 155k. And yes I know his communication is shit and he is looks sketchy but this seems to add up.
@@trol510 watch the first video. He said he was offered a full refund if it's a fake. Full refund... He says it half a dozen times to set their minds at ease. Losing 50k... Is not a full refund. His story is jank as hell dude.
@@uglytrapgod we don't know that a full box ever existed. It just as likely sat empty for decades until getting filled with junk and sealed for this scam. The original packs surely got traded for fruit by the foot at a 1995 lunch hour.
The "stay quiet" argument is so frustrating and dangerous. As soon as someone suggests you silence your opinions, you know they're self aware. The benefit of doubt is removed. They're openly trying to manipulate you into retracting what youve said and never critisizing them again. Its super sus
I agree that silencing people is wrong, but I don't think you've thought about your comment as much as you think. I guess you could also be over-generalizing the situation. However, what if I just went around calling you a baby rapist? You might want me to stop. I certainly would want people to not slander me. I get that in this case it was live streamed and there is really not speculation. I am just saying that your statement, as is, is not entirely correct.
@@kylesmith6141 I think we're saying the same thing? I'm not saying pokemon dude should be silenced. I'm saying he probably shouldn't tell others to be silenced (or at least not do so and expect me to think that's LESS sus). @@kylesmith6141 That's not even close to being valid counter-argument, especially in this case. Even if Guru was 100% innocent and this was all a huge misunderstanding, it doesn't alter the fact that he has a reputation for scamming people and opinions like that don't appear out of nowhere. @@ButterflyScarlet Uh, I feel like I was clear that I wasn't defending this very case. Second, I still believe defamation is a valid counter argument to not always demonize people silencing others. You handled this so well!!! People who have never dealt with confrontation ( on any level) may not understand how stressful this can be, and you handled this well!!
When he says that everyone else was "whole" it basically means they had no losses. For example I used to work for a financial institution and if one of our clients lost money via fraud that should have been caught before the money went out it was our fiduciary responsibility to make the client whole. If the fraudster sent out a check for 5k that was non recoverable we would cover their loss at expense of the financial institution so it would be as if the client suffered no loss.
@@michaelsloan2447 yea, I don't know enough about the deal itself and other expenses the buyer may have incurred to make it happen to really say but just explaining the concept of being "whole" as it was used. Typically when making a client whole we would only count money that was sent from the account and any fees or fines they may have suffered due to the absence of or movement of funds. But, let's say they had to take an uber to the bank to sign papers the money spent on the uber would not be considered part of the expenses when making the client whole. So in the end while they may be down $30 for an uber they are still, at least in the eyes of the institution, whole. Again, can't vouch for whether or not it is truthful in his statement. Just how I have seen it work in the industry.

I fly close enough to circles where these guys exists and I can see why he would say all this stupid crap. I won't call him a scammer but he's definitely a hustler. He's used to talking with guys who give him a bad name because they are trying to steal his business. THAT is stealing clout. One thing that annoys me about "investors" is if a deal goes wrong, they'll talk about money they "lost". They didn't lose any money. They lost potential, hypothetical money. But acting like he lost $220k in profits because he fucked up a deal? Nah, fam. That's money you might have gotten only if your deal came through AND any other deals you made also came through. You're counting your chickens so far ahead, the hens haven't even laid their eggs yet.
I think it would be more accurate to say that all investors "lose" money they invest. As in they spend! You're just hoping to gain more money than you lose.
Well an investment is spending money to potentially gain more than you spent. It's a projection of profit. If the investment goes wrong then you do lose money (what you put in initially) and the potential profit. You don't invest to see what happens, it's not a game of randomness. You invest with a clear profit margin potential in mind. If you don't get it you lost it. That's why is clarified that you lost x amount of money and x amount in profit.
Well, you absolutely can get losses in an investment. If you get less out than you put in, the difference is the loss. If you get more than you put in, the difference is the gain. The difference is that he's comparing how much he _thinks he could have gained_ and comparing that to how much he actually gained, and calling the difference a loss. That's not how it works, like Jarvis said with the Lottery ticket - except, it's like a lottery ticket where you win a $50,000 2nd prize but the main prize was $200,000, and you say you "lost $150,000" somehow.
To explain, watch Lindsay Ellis. Her last few videos give all the details, it's too much for one comment. Really though, it's a wild ride. Edit: The first video is Into the Omegaverse, and she has a follow up video where the author's she discussedreach out to her about her "allegations". Its great fun.
I feel like labeling collectables as "investments" is pretty depressing. Maybe it's just me but I feel like if you buy collectables just because you think they might be valuable, that kind of sucks all the joy out of it.
I think the only time you should label collectables as an investment is when you're trying to convince your self that you didn't waste $45 on a SDCC exclusive minecraft steve action figure (not based on real events).

One thing I don't understand is how no-one is seeing the point that there was a large motive Guru could have to "try to scam" Dumb Money. From the agreement he made with the original seller, if the box was fake he would get his money back. We can assume that the seller was therefore telling the truth, as there would be no reason that he would sign the agreement knowing he would lose his money when it was opened. Thus, assuming we can trust the original seller and the box Guru bought from him was real, he could have easily replaced the box with a fake reseal, have it opened on stream, reveal the opened box to be fake, and then get his money back from the original seller. Guru would ALSO keep the original real box, therefore landing him in insane profit and scamming the seller.
Thats what I was thinking from the start of all this. He said the original seller said if anything is wrong ill refund you . Bald man saw this as a opportunity and ran with it. The amount of money he made off this is crazy annnnd still has the real box he will try to sell for 200k plus

Guy who tried to scam people for money tries to insult people by pointing out they make videos for money. Yeah, no.
He knew.
He likely even resealed it himself
And not "I wasn't sure if you were gonna open the box today." This really was the only quote we needed to hear to know he was aware of the whole thing. A guy who says Pokemon is the only thing he's nostalgic about would've urged them to open the box on stream while he was around if he didn't know it was resealed

Weird victim fake flex
it makes more sense the other way around but that can't just be me... fake victim, weird flex.
Dude's probably a scammer, but it's never a bad thing to get everyone's side of the story
At this point people will call him a scammer... not because they think he is... but because they want to piss the shiny head man off
I feel like Ive seen enough evidence to concluded he is a scammer/ con artist. He had that box for over a month before he sold it to dumbmoney.

Demomtization: "Why hello there!"
That reminds me of my mom calling stoners “marijuana people”
my little brother cant say his "th" sounds so instead of calling certain crime people thugs he calls em 'trash men' and it makes me laugh
He also misused the word "effusive" while trying to look smart against Wubby. I don't think the dude can write anything cohesive without a thesaurus.

It’s even worse. He was an alleged crypto scammer before this foray into alleged Pokémon scamming
After the resealing of the box it would provide him an excuse as to why there is damage in the event that he did not need to be present for the box opening as it seemed by his verbal reaction that he was unaware of this information.

yeah right...

Defamation is reprehensible, but at the same time if so many people think you've got a problem, maybe take a moment to examine yourself and either explain yourself clearly or change your behaviour.
@@ButterflyScarlet Uh, I feel like I was clear that I wasn't defending this very case. Second, I still believe defamation is a valid counter argument to not always demonize people silencing others. I'm going to state it once more to possibly avoid further confusion: I am in no way, shape or form, defending the case specifically mentioned in this video- but instead saying that we can't take people wanting other people to stay quiet about a particular situation as proof of guilt.

He realized that wouldn't work when Wubby's second video came out so he was a little more kind to Jarvis here but he's still in that hustle mindset. He's probably used to a little attention, good or bad, from inside his own circles but never this many from regular joes and he doesn't know how to deal with it and it's certainly not like this.
Haha right!?
@@schmooplesthesecond5997 it's more for the Pokemon world to watch out for this man. It's good to put his face out there
@@schmooplesthesecond5997 yes but that’s any content. guru did deals with famous youtubers for clout. jarvis would have covered this story if it was some other self righteous dumbass who had this happen. it’s not about him, it’s about what happened. jarvis didn’t even say anything bad about him other than making a scammer joke. the dudes arguably using jarvis and other youtubers for clout now for making it into this huge deal, leaving multiple comments and posting on their social media
The chickens haven’t even fricked yet

I'm pretty sure no seller would offer a full refund lmao
@@coffin7904 idk it may have to do with the price, I would imagine there are a few precautions against fraud.
Thats what I was thinking from the start of all this. He said the original seller said if anything is wrong ill refund you . Bald man saw this as a opportunity and ran with it. The amount of money he made off this is crazy annnnd still has the real box he will try to sell for 200k plus

funny how he claimed that jarvis did not fact check and portrayed him in bad light when he did not even watch jarvis' video in its entirety to fact check his claims.
When he addressed his audience about not condoning harassment, it felt like he was a teacher I got a little anxious.
Bold of this dude to lie and say we, the audience, are harassing him online lmao. He's not important to any one of us. We're still kind of dealing with a pandemic rn. We did, however, enjoyed a nice commentary video from Jarvis.
This guy is a classic narcissist. He believes himself to always be at the center of the universe so anything said about him is the most important topic to everyone who sees it.
He would never believe that most of us who saw the video forgot about him 3 minutes later.
While I would like to believe you were all just here to watch Jarvis' video and forget about Guru Guy, I'm positive there are a couple trolls that go out of their way to harass the bald man.
Yayaya! Closed captioning !!!! Wow!!!! You are amazing! Thank you kindly for helping Deaf community out!
Definitely looking forward to your opening Pokémon and yu-gi-oh! Cards. Keep a few sealed ones for memories :-)
In the livestream the guru says that he could get a refund if the box turned out to be fake, but now he's saying that he couldn't get a refund? So either he's a scammer or he's so incompetent he didn't think to get that whole refund thing in writing? This guy is a terrible liar, It's pretty sad he's made it this far.
My issue is this mans is more worried about his own reputation rather than proving who resealed the box which is far more important
As soon as I saw the "U" in his texts I got annoyed already.
People who don't exercise the effort to at LEAST type out full words while trying to be "professional" and fix an issue, while trying to bring in such things as /lawsuits/ already tells you that argument isn't worth it.
I am glad that Jarvis kept it mature, at least. --
Honestly I’m personally fine with people using “u” UNTIL they’re meant to be professional, like come on??
@@franklinlewis1097 exactly! If you’re just saving a few seconds while having some small talk with a friend it’s fine, but once you are attempting to sound professional and fix an issue with a stranger, putting in those extra seconds to type out a full 3 letter word shows you care that much more.
Narcissists tend to repeat themselves, they’ll do it forever until they wear you down.
“YOU ASSUME A RISK AS AN INVESTOR”. Well-said Jarvis, why is he complaining when like, this is his entire professional life
“Clout chaser” is the new “my haters” for people with egos so sensitive and needy they can’t handle a bit of critique, criticism, or accountability.
Guy who tried to scam people for money tries to insult people by pointing out they make videos for money. Yeah, no. People have been reporting on news, scams, and even gossip as a profession for over a century.
Reporting on things people find interesting to get a lot of readers/viewers is not new, it's literally part of the job. Pulitzer was "clout chasing" in the New York World. The main difference is that it's an accessible field now.
Every time I see someone use that phrase, I can't help but see it as a pathetic attempt to detract from their own behavior.

this video stayed funny and interesting in spite of the fact that i'm not into Pokemon, Jake Paul, collectibles of any kind, and this video was a read of a conversation with someone who just repeated themselves through an entire conversation. i don't care if you make videos about tech or High School Musical (also i'm not a fan of HSM) i think your best videos are ones that you feel deeply about. in fact if i keep watching your videos i think i might eventually watch HSM on purpose. i hope you have a great day and thank you for your content
I do love that Jarvis is trying to be proactive about his viewers harassing others. Unlike other RUclipsrs *cough cough Shane Dawson cough cough* who are notorious for not only complementing and encouraging their audience to stand up for them but also sitting by and watching until things get out of control. The internet can be very toxic and I love that Jarvis is working to make his community at least more positive.
he's one of the best well meaning people in my opinion like... the amount of logic and kindness it's amazing and I resonate deeply with it
I agree. I am sure that people say “dont att*ck or h*rass anyone” to seem like the nice guy, but when their fans actually attack the person they don’t do anything about it and let it happen. But Jarvis a good dude and he is quite genuine so I’m sure he wouldn’t condone h*rassment at all.
Imsensoringthosewordsbecauseyoutubeisdumboops
he was so defensive for no reason... it's because he knows he's been busted and is desperate to save his "rep"
I get so frustrated with people who dig themselves into a hole like this. Right from the beginning you could tell that he's not thinking critically about what Jarvis is saying. Instead he skims and repeats himself again and again. If I had been Jarvis in this conversation, I would have definitely stop messaging way sooner.
I've definitely been in situations where I've been stuck and through frustration and some kind of sunk cost fallacy kept on arguing far longer than I should've.
