What’s really insane is that he’s not only playing these riffs but also singing over them, the earlier megadeth songs like the first 4 records, especially killing is my business, singing over this riffs and maintaining coordination is insane to me.
That's right. I play rhythm guitar and sing. He is impressive, for sure, in that department. I know that it scarred him; but, he needed to get away from Metallica. He has made much better music. Original music. Metallica has plagiarized, like a mofo.
That's the part that blows me away. I play guitar and some of Dave's guitar parts are hard enough when you're JUST playing guitar. But to also sing over it????? Jesus that is insane. There's nobody like Dave man. Stupidly talented man.
Yeah well he's not really good at it though. James is much more accomplished as a guitarist vocalist and does not seem strained at all. Still interacts with the crowd while doing it
@ James definitely had more powerful vocals, but Dave had his own timbre that really satisfied the nature of his songs, both of them wrote great music each with unique strengths, there styles are a lot different actually. Obviously in more recent years Dave’s voice has drastically degraded, but im their primes they both did great but different work. Also this post and video has nothing to do with James, it’s remarkable that someone can play and sing these riffs, the coordination required is insane, James plays difficult riffs too.

Its has been and will always be my favourite band. I can still remember when i got to know them when i first bought and listen to their album countdown to extinction when i was in high school. Mustaine has an uncanny ability to create great melodies and rhythm in all his music, which till this day is still regarded by many to be classic thrash metal of all time.🤟
Great to see here in the comments the appreciation of Mary Janes as a hidden gem. It's one of the best things Mustaine has ever written. So complex and beautiful! Never or rarely played live. Why? Anyways... If Dave makes another album in the style of Mary Janes that could be the definitive Megadeth master piece.
Wow, your Symphony/Holy Wars playing/tone is what I hear in my head when I'm playing these 2 songs on guitar. Your an inspiration dude, you've touched the gods.
Fuk yeah man. I was grooving the whole time. Even after listening to these songs for 30 years you still find new stuff to appreciate when you can see fingers play it up close.
Of course starting holy wars riffs just incredible But riff with palmed strings right before the solo in the middle of song.. this shis is banging so hard! No muted, with pinch harmonics!
Slight adjustment to Holy Wars - the pull off in the main riff is preceded by an eight note on an empty 6th string, not two sixteenths! That little pause before the pull off really gives it that signature feeling, it's so satisfying. Mr. Tabs and Andrea Boma Boccarusso perform it really well if you'd like to check them out :) Amazing video though, loved the tabs, I'll definitely be revisiting and playing along!
@@jimmyr1888 I've watched live shows from 1992 and 2016 and I can still hear that signature pause. It's also how they performed it when I went to their show last year and this year. In their Vic and the Rattleheads show, you can also clearly see Kiko skipping that 16th of a note in the few close-up shots they give of that riff, and for what it's worth, Kiko is the most technically gifted guitarist Megadeth has ever had, except maybe Chris Broderick.
i am so happy he got chucked from Metallica. i don't think he could have shined there. when he got tossed, he came to a tough decision to either ride the drug train to hell or clean up and try to do something on his own. thank you to Dave for making the right decision. think of all of the amazing songs and riffs we would have missed out on... riffs that James or Lars would have said no to. thanks for the vid - excellent playing. i am a visual person.. been playing guitar for a long time, but it is so much easier for me to learn something when i can see it played. i wasn't blessed with being able to hear something and play it right away, but i can sight-read music fairly well.
