Ilocano cuisine is the healthiest local cuisine in the country. We utilize alot of leefy greens, flowers, vegetables and root crops in our cooking. Dinengdeng, inabraw, buridobod, pinakbet just to name q few and their is many more dishes that is healthy.
Laswa: we just boil some water, add shrimp or alamang and the veggies that cook longer first, then the rest of the veggies. Simple, savory and very satisfying. I love to have both okra and saluyot. Namit!!!
It’s interesting to see each of their take on healthy pinoy food. “Healthy” is really subjective. A diabetic would avoid carbs while a body builder would eat loads of it. Minsan depende din sa cultural background. Like lumaki tayo na sinasabihan wag masyado madami rice para hindi tumaba. Pero kapag nagbaon ako rice, my (dutch) colleagues would tell me, that’s healthy.
My mother used only repolyo in her tortang. She never added flour. But my favorite was when she used spinach in place of the cabbage. Sometimes she made it with only onions. She also made tomatoes and scrambled eggs. Cook bawang and onion. Then add chopped tomato, let that cook until it's soft. Then add the beaten eggs.
Content suggestion: -What Vitamins/nutrients ang nawawala sa food kapag kunyare piniprito or binoboil -Healthy pa rin ba kapag gumagamit ng mga seasonings like mentioned sa vid magic sarap, sinigang mix or even just salt 😛
all the dishes look super yummy, and highlight different ideas of what healthy is. I'm white, have not been exposed to many Filipino food and would love to try some of these. The girl cutting the cabbage with the flat side up kind of scared me though.... please put the flat surface on the cutting board for stability!
Laswa/law-uy/dinendeng/bulalang is the healthiest Filipino dish partnered with dried dish like tinapa, tuyo, and fried fish perfect for rainy season🤤🤤 This should be the National dish but every one has name for it.
my mom would cook Laswa at least 3x a week and for the rest of the week she would make some other kind of ilonggo vegetable soup dishes. I used to hate it as a kid but now as an adult and almost a decade away from home, I really miss my mom's cooking especially her Laswa. She would put a bit of ginamos instead of patis 😋
Interesting dishes that I can add to my meal prep arsenal! Love this series as we need to start really cooking for ourselves and be healthy. And its so affordable! Just takes some prep time but you can portion it all out and pick what you want for the day. Thank you for putting these kinds of videos
These all sound so good! I am most interested to make sinigang na bangus. I'm in the middle-of-nowhere Kansas and can't find bangus though, what fish can I use to substitute?
Try Mackerel or Salmon belly. Some restaurants use these fish as substitute. Just be careful on how long you boil them as they aren’t as firm as bangus and may not hold up well in the broth. I would personally use Salmon belly for that extra fat which should give a richer flavor to the broth. Hope this helps! Let me know how it went.
many popular Filipino foods are high in salt, sugar, and fats, contributing to health issues like diabetes and heart disease like Sisig, Longanisa, Bicol express, lumpiang shanghai, lechon, Tocino, KareKare and even halo halo with sugar from condensed milk and sweetened fruits, contributing to high calorie intake.
not sure but for laswa I would put ginger and/or green chillis. if you dont want the slimy soup, you can leave out okra and saluyot and just put malunggay instead. and that sinigang would taste waaay better with tanglad.
13:00 idk where local supermarket you bought your cabbage from, but stating that this is below 50 pesos???? I just bought cabbage from a typical “palengke” and it’s 63 pesos for an average size. Add eggs that cost hella expensive now. PLEASE BE REALISTIC. 😐
Palengke will be cheaper than a local supermarket. But the best would be around 30 for a small cabbage. then just use half because she calls for only 1 & 1/2 cups of it. So probably 15 to 30 pesos. 6 pesos is just not realistic
I can honestly say that there's no such thing as a healthy Pinoy foods unless we just eat the soup. Or, grilling a freshly caught fish. That's why each time I have Filipino food -- which I rarely do -- I go all out. Also given that we use packet seasoning as opposed to the real stuff, ie real sampaloc, we are loading ourselves with fake ingredients. Do I need to mention, "sabaw pa lang, mapapadami na ang rice" videos.
Hello! Student Nurse here, gata isn't healthy fat at all. In fact, it is rich in lauric acid which can elevate the LDL (low-density lipoprotein) or aka bad cholesterol. Kaya laging in-emphasize ng mga Nutritionist and Cardio na to consume coconut-based food moderately

Coconut milk is all right dear student nurse. Even coconut oil. Everything in moderation. It is anti inflammatory versus seed oils. So okay lang. Coconut milk may Reduce inflammation: Animal studies found that coconut extract and coconut oil reduced inflammation and swelling. Heto nag copy paste na ako. Evidence based research and citations kelangan natin. Although we still need a lot of research about the benefits of oil, it is indeed a saturated fat pero coconut oil also contains 12% true medium-chain fatty acids - capric acid and caprylic acid. Unlike longer-chain fats, MCTs go from the digestive tract directly to your liver, where they’re used for energy or ketone production. They are less likely to be stored as fat. Research also suggests that MCTs may help reduce appetite and decrease calorie intake compared to other fats, Coconut milk contains small amounts of MCTs. Although MCTs may increase metabolism and help you lose belly fat, the low levels in coconut milk are unlikely to significantly affect weight loss. Other benefits of coconut milk is that it decrease stomach ulcer size: In one study, coconut milk reduced stomach ulcer size. Look at Jamaica who are also fond of using coconut oil there is a decrease incidence of ulcers. I prescribe and recommend it to my patients. Nurse practitioner ako working with integrative psychiatry. Last one, coconut oil/milk Fight viruses and bacteria: Test-tube studies suggest that lauric acid may reduce the levels of viruses and bacteria that cause infections. This includes those that reside in your mouth, hence i do and recommend to my patients oil pulling during times of getting sick. Hence, in any food you eat, all should be in moderation, and being mindful of it.

Laswa is ❤❤❤
The shrimp on that laswa is overcooked now. It should be close to last to be added.
Tortang repolyo like okonomiyaki
Featr team wasted veggies here as much as 2 full meal already lol
That kinda bothered me too 😂
my laswa + malonggay leaves = kanami

I miss laswa
We call laswa as law-uy in Davao region
U boiled the trap out the shrimp bro
Laswa is not a dish in my province of Antique. Vegetables is the meaning of laswa in English.
LASWA FTW
💙💙💙👏👏👏
if you want it to be slimy, add less water, you have to softly crush the okra with salt.
"Healthy" isn't really the point nor the "goodness" of most Filipino food! 😉😋
They forgot to add the kang kong in the sinigang ingredient card😅
We call Laswa as Bas-oy

Leave the okra whole so you don’t get the slime. I don’t cut my okra anymore when I put them in sinigang and it is not slimy
