The thing to notice about real oil rigs is the lack of symmetry. Place a helipad on one side, and one of those observer towers on the other. A little building space that in the real world would be for office space and staff, but in this game you could put a circuit breaker room and maybe other stuff like the MAM. Also gantries, real oil rigs have spaghetti of gantries going underneath and all around

In my most recent restart of the game, I went with self-powered plastic and rubber production just for the unlocks. 2 rubber or 4 plastic refineries > 1 petro coke refinery > 2 coal generators @ 240% (they consume 108 water and 60 petro coke per minute). Those coal gens produce 180 MW each. At 125% a oil extractor on a pure node fills a 300m3 mk1 pipe, so you can run 10 refineries on them.
Was fun using a single biogen to jumpstart the first powerplant cell, underclocking everything to 25% and alternating which machine got power to fill their storage first.

I’ve been working on my oil spreadsheet, so I’ll nerdily say:
Going HOR>Residual Fuel>rubber produces 25% more fuel, 63% more rubber, and uses 60% more refineries (vs rubber>residual fuel).
The plastic counterpart is 25% more fuel, 25% more plastic, and 63% more refineries.

"Starter" oil isn't really a thing, unless you just want enough plastic and rubber to satisfy milestones and MAM research. How do you deal with the Heavy Oil Residue? I guess manually flushing a buffer? Oil power is still quite aways off. Yeah, beautiful build but how do you get REALLY started with oil. Granted, this is a full scale build, not for the faint of heart. Great stuf, but way beyond my abilities. I just set up an extractor, a refinery and a buffer for the HOR, manually flushing when full. I've not gotten the manufacturer yet as it needs plastic to unlock.
Anyway, thanks for all the great work you've done for Satisfactory. I've also explored the Tips site, which is excellent. Everything needs a bit more updating. The starter save is where my current work is (I love that spot too), and I just unlocked oil in my build. Yours has the now unnecessary mods (Update 8, but not a problem) , and I wound up with 2 hubs (I wonder... can I actually build 2 hubs?).
Update: I figured it out with the help of an excellent starting oil tutorial by Phenixx. It's the changing the heavy oil residue to make petro coke to run some coal generators that's missing from most tutorials. Once I realized that, starting oil is a breeze.

What I did with my 'starter' oil is I immediately began packaging it. Packaging it lets you immediately substitute Coal for Fuel in vehicles, and lets you SINK excess. The Polymer Resin I was producing also produces plastic for empty canisters, and those empty canisters get fed directly into the fuel packager. You need to ALSO be producing plastic independently or have multiple Polymer Resin producers for this to work, but I immediately switched my Truck Stations from Coal to Fuel. I keep an Industrial Container of it set aside that feeds into my two truck depots (one for coal, the other for my refinery), and occasionally manually dumped a couple rows of fuel into the AWESOME Sink until I got Smart Switching set up since I wasn't using nearly as much as I was producing and until I set up Fuel Power at my depot, my Fuel Canisters were being consumed in the process of using them.
Once that got set up as well as Smart Switching, I got Rubber, Plastic, and Fuel being brought in from the refinery to my main base. Now that I have Tier 7 & 8 unlocked, I have my Fuel Depot where I keep all the fuel that goes to my double Fuel Power and feeds my truck stations, overflow from THAT goes into my storage system, and then overflow from THAT gets Sink'd. I still need to set up my train network, so once that's online, the fuel depot can go and I can directly do fuel power at my refinery instead of unpacking since I'll be converting my Coal Plant and my Refinery from Truck delivery to Train or Conveyor.

Gotta say I really like long parallel pipelines and I don't really care for the "Factorio style" weaving. I think I might like it if you added additional foundations so the pipes were inset and maybe covered with glass.

Is there a rule that says you have to fire it all up at once? Fire up what you need for beginner production to get the plastic you need, and bring the rest on line later?

This literally happened to me. I got to the end of building a 300 per sec oil refinery and I went to go build my power generators and then I realized I had no recipe.
Then when I tried to just use the oil to make plastic and rubber, I had no power.
I ended up using all the sulfur I could to make compacted coal and add as much power as I could until I got fuel generators.

Just out of curiosity, did you think about using the heavy oil residue to pump into refineries making petroleum coke and slamming those into some coal generators nearby to power this up enough to yield enough plastic and rubber for the next milestone?
A single 300 line of heavy oil residue could get you 900 petroleum coke, which would feed 36 coal plants which is 2700MW (since they burn 25 / minute). Run the rig with only half of the things running, add a few power storage batteries and let those power things when the time comes to add the fuel generators.

    • @DistracticusPrime
      @DistracticusPrime Год назад +1

I believe petroleum coke is intentionally the game design, as a stopgap measure between coal power and fuel burners.

If the only thing you want to do is get enough plastic to get computers for research, you could reroute power from your base to here for just a bit.
You need 5800 for 100 computers for the research and another 290 plastic and 50 rubber for every fuel generator.
