    My family member was incredibly ill (eventually non-functional due to blood loss) with UC. We took all the fibre we could out of the diet and did a low fodmap diet, ate only homemade food, no processed food, no sugar, organic, no chemical additives. After 1 1/2 months no improvement. With a ton of fear and trepidation we decided to do the opposite. Switched to a high fibre diet, 35 different foods in a week, no processed food, no sugar, organic as much as possible. Family member was back to health in 6 weeks!

      When you said that you “switched to a high fibre diet” you had me worried for a moment, but as you’ve seen such excellent results I’m sure you started reintroducing fibre at an adequate pace.
      Edit: I do know that items on the low FODMAP list contain fibre.

      Actually we didn’t really pace the addition of the fibre. We just dove in with an organic, super clean plant based diet. So meals like tofu, broccoli and rice, beans, salads, soups, etc. Always ensuring 35 different plant foods each week. We also made our own probiotic soy yogurt and added a 1/4 c of it to a 3 cup smoothie each morning (berries, papaya, banana, chia, hemp, flax, spinach, etc). The smoothies usually had 12-15 different plant foods in it, even though sometimes it was just a teaspoon of this or that. We added a slice of probiotic dill pickles, live probiotic sauerkraut, some miso and that kind of thing daily in small quantities. We were nervous as heck but it worked!

      @@stellaancimer8505 When more than occasional restaurant food, sugar, alcohol, processed food(think Doritos, chocolate bars/burgers and fries) etc are reintroduced there is a return of gut pain and cramping which can go on for days. However, so far, as long as the diet is kept primarily clean all is well.

      @@joanramler7831 of course you are totaly right. for me i dont eat process food, and "clean" diet if you mean with vegetable is not ok for people who has sibo for example, or other inflamation in the gut.

    Since 1997, I (age 78) I have had serious flares about every 5 years which have lasted for approx. 3-5 months. I am now experiencing a moderate but debilitating flare without knowing what and how to manage this again. The amount of either false or so called causes and remedies make my approach to healing very difficult. I have yet to understand or have a diagnoses of why every 5 years or so, as my diet does not change that much and my activity is also good. I am athletic and happy and happily married. I also am a retired general medical doctor and now offering psychotherapy freely to local people in need. So. Have bought the latest book by Dr. Bulsiewicz. Hope that this will give me some enduring dietary habits to stop/manage this process.

    Took some very expensive antibiotics when I tested positive on a SIBO test. Did absolutely nothing, felt no difference. Now I know why. Thanks Dr. B.

      The drug store told me my prescription sent in by the doctor was 2,000 dollars. ( Rifaximin) then my insurance company okayed it and it was 850.00 dollars. I said no thanks! Plus the side effects scared the heck out of me. The breath test for sibo I canceled too. Side effects or possible side effects were bloody diarrhea or stomach cramping . No thank you. I took the candida med to kill the yeast but that didn’t work either. Now I am taking anti microbials. From a naturopathic doctor. It has been a few years now and nothing is working. Wow!!!

      @@widowswatch6610I did the breath test and denied the expensive antibiotics. What I did do was Dr. Ruscio’s sibo program. Specific probiotics, oregano & more. Low fodmap for a short period. I am so much better, no bloating at all! I hope this might help you.

    I’ve heard so many different messages about the need for fibre. Some say it’s required for optimal digestion, others say animal fat instead is better and more gentle than fibre. I’m so confused about what is true. Great ideas in this interview. 👏🇦🇺

      As I understand it, based on other talks by Dr. B, a very messed up Microbiome, ironically, will not be able to handle all the fiber that will ultimately heal the gut. Therefore, fiber has to be increased VERY slowly, giving the gut time to build up the good microbes. But in the short run, for those with messed up guts, animal products may feel less challenging as this is more likely what those bad microbes have adapted to.
      Additionally, some folks have food sensitivities which need to be sorted out by an elimination diet. Carnivore, for example, is a strict elimination diet. BUT the real challenge is to gradually add back plant foods to see which is the culprit. It may be one or two plant foods but only those one or two and all others would only heal the gut.
      So moral is to go "low and slow" with fiber and if that doesn't work, do a dietician supervised elimination diet, gradually adding back healthy plant foods.

      I can tell you this. When I started taking in more fiber and started walking everyday……. First I lost 25 pounds in 6 months and my chronic heartburn and acid reflux went away. Drink lots of water with your fiber rich foods.

      This is so true. I’m an all in kind of guy, and when I started listening to Dr B I decided to full throttle the fiber. Holy cow. I was so bloated and gassy. Especially because I went fully throttle on one or two foods at a time, which was the biggest mistake. I learned that each plant food has a different type of fiber, and each feeds different microbes. A lot of one plant food means a lot of one specific fiber and overwhelms the gut because the one microbe isn’t grown and adjusted to it. If you don’t have sensitivities, you could probably start with SMALL amounts of lots of DIFFERENT plant foods at the same time, and this will likely be okay. If you have sensitivities, work on adding SMALL amounts of ONE plant food back at a time. Keep the small amount everyday for like 3 days to a week before increasing the amount or adding a new plant food. It’s a long slow game to play, but worth it when your gut is finally healthy and optimal

    I have IBS-D, EPI, SBS. I began adding in fiber SLOWLY& taking a peppermint oil pill & Atrantil before every meal. Took several months but fiber & no added sugar seem to have worked.

    The part for me was where you explain about starting low and going slow on introduction of food. This was where I slipped up so many times before and abruptly cut that food out again completely. I am currently on this journey (was actually convinced I had a yeast overgrowth to begin with) but was cutting all my foods down thinking "why am I getting worse and yet eating less and less" I am now gradually, and I mean gradually introducing other foods and finding that I am able to eat them without them crippling me. The analogy you made about the dodgy knee really sums this up perfectly.

    Such an amazing video!!! I suffer from atopic dermatitis since birth. I developed asthma and several allergies later on. I have been healing through my diet and management of stress since 2020. I'm so grateful to be able to watch these videos 🙌🏼😍 I had no idea what was going on in my body when I was a teenager. I just thought I had to live using steroids forever. Thank you for everything!!

    Excellent easy to watch and listen to video. love how Dr. Sarah didn’t interrupt and appropriately acknowledged Dr Will. Great information on gut health. I have been struggling for a month with frequent visits to the bathroom day and night. All tests came back negative. I feel stress plays a big part in gut health. More Yoga Nidra needed to get me through the night.

    I had a tumor in my pituitary when I was young, I forgot to take my replacement drugs that keeps me going and I was taken to a hospital in LA and they didn't listen to my wife and decided to nuke my gut biom and I was just a big poop machine, eventually the nurses decided my wife wasn't lying and started giving me my normal med and in a week I got better with C. Diff, now I am taking supplements with lots of bacteria for my gut, I don't really know what I'm doing but I try to eat lots of soup and as many different food as I can find, I just ate chicken stew with about 6 plants

    He talked a lot about SIBO, but I’m curious to hear his take on IMO and specifically the methanogens (archaea) that causes it. Also, he mentions finding someone who can monitor the symptoms closely in order to help people. These people just don’t exist in the real world. I’ve been to five different gastroenterologist over the past three years and I found out that they’re good at ordering you expensive testing and taking your money. But in the end, they all read off of the same sheet of music. Take Prilosec and eat smaller portions. Half of these people don’t even know what SIBO/ IMO is much less how to treat it. I’ve been on antibiotics three times and did a round of antimicrobial and I haven’t been right since. My gut is completely destroyed now and I can’t eat anything without being in pain. This is the result of doctors being woefully uneducated in this day and time.

    Would love an interview with Dr.B and Sally Norton the supposed expert on oxalates. She says to eliminate most of the things you promote. Totally lost with a crappy gut (no pun intended) but have no idea what to eat anymore. This Sally scares the heck out of me saying that you dump oxalates first years.

      I’ve just started a low oxalate plant based diet after being vegan for eight years and eating far too many of the high oxalate healthy foods like spinach nuts cocoa sweet potatoes mand avocados. I’ve had gut and really bad digestive issues for years and three days after reducing my oxalate consumption things started to improve so much . I will never not be vegan as it has changed my life for the better but yes l would love to hear him speak with Sally Norton who in my view is too extreme and views plants as the enemy! They are not - we just have to be careful to keep things in balance l think x

    One thing you never talk about is industrial , food and pesticides. Turkish colleague who has ibs csnt eat beans in UK but beans you pick from field in Turkey, he said were fine. Autoimmune disease also corresponds to the time when more pesticides started to be used in 80s. Any advise? Is it the elephant in the room?

    I think it pointing more to your microbiome can shift overnight depending on how much sleep youve had , stress ,what you ate that night , of course it changes continually (, context )and yes it takes time to heal certain GI symptoms , every body is different in thier healing journey.

    25:20 there's no way I registered dietitian is some kind of great thing. The years before my wife passed away the oncologist gave us a dietitian at the hospital who was just worse than worse about what foods my wife needs and what she should avoid. That dietitian suggested sugar as a good thing more so than a bad thing... And I'm not just hung up on that one thing that woman said. She would promote canned foods and the problems I saw about her advice went on and on and on. Very discouraging when you're trying to save someone's life who you love. When someone is influenced strongly because you're scared to follow your doctor's advice, the doors that were previously never really open are going to stay shut on a better ways to explore ideas.

      I understand what you are saying but please don't put all us dietitians in the same basket. You may also visit with a doctor that isn't very good but that does not mean none of them are good and you will never see a doctor again. You just keep looking for the right one.

      I am so sorry about your wife . You are correct that sugar ( I assume you mean table sugar) is the wrong thing to promote, ESPECIALLY for a cancer patient. As fAr as dietary advice I don't recommend doctors unless they have additional training beyond medical school. About 75 percent of docs get no training in nutrition, many doctors will tell you nutrition was ridiculed in med school as less important than drugs/ surgery. If you are searching for someone look for training in functional medicine. You may need to study nutrition yourself to sort out the varying nutritional claims.

    Wow fascinating, i gave up eating potatoes as i had issues digesting them, they literally get stuck , seem to effect my peristalsis!?!? But i will reintroduce some jacket potatoes. I took this slow approach to adding sauerkraut to my diet and i am now able to eat sauerkraut a few times a week.

    Went on a 100% animal based diet about 2 years ago. Completely healed my gut issues in less than a week. Any time I try to reintroduce any plant fiber, my gut reacts badly. So I'm not advocating anything, just telling what my experience has been.

    Very helpful I’m in my journey to healing my flare up with gastritis I was miserable but fiber is the key to feeding your gut like collard green kale and sauerkraut is great and kefir

    Since I had covid 2 yrs ago. I have Ibs. I've never ever had issues in my life till covid. Doctor are reporting that this is a side effect.
    I do eat lots of vegetables and fermented foods. Prebiotic. Probiotic. Keeping things healthy.

    The key is diagnosis, after an ER visit they said Acute Diverticulitis after C.T scan, lots of diarrhea so I walked away with 1 week of antibiotic. After 2 weeks finally got to see Gastro and still feeling slight pain she order another round of Ciprofloacin w/Metronidazole, which induces diarrhea, so after a week of fasting and introducing low fiber still have diarrhea, from meds?

      I can empathise, I have DVT as well. Antibiotics kill the infection but also a lot of the “good guy” bacteria. I think we should be offered fecal transplants to fix the problem.

    So give a patient an antidepressant which can cause stomach trouble akathisia and a host of other issues. Do u tell the patient this. Cuz my drs didn’t and now they are yelling at me and blaming me because I am sick and I’m on antidepressants. No matter what I do to get help it’s always my fault. I was even put on Miralax took it couldn’t go for 8 weeks had to go to the hospital accused of doing drugs sent home and then had the doctor yell at me because I wouldn’t take the Miralax anymore. I don’t trust doctors anymore. Especially because when I do find one who will really help me they don’t take insurance. God help you if you’re poor.

      Havy tried benefiber it is the simplest i find but i am just starting so it kind of sticks sometimes then i buy tart cherry juice and it loosens it the dr said to drink lots of water too so water content versus the fiber may very well be a part of. Is miralaz magnesium if if is try the calm . A pt female that deals with post pregnancy and pelvic floors knows constipation and that type of calcium can have some pain but will make you go.

      @@dawncolayco9340 I appreciate that but I now have gastroparesis from the meds. U can’t take fiber with that. Magnesium made me swell so bad I almost had to go to the Er. I am low in magnesium and tried to get my GI to give me IV magnesium but she just told me to eat a salad after telling me not to eat solid food and eat baby food. Now she’s mad because I won’t have an endoscopy but she refuses to test for Sibo yeast SIFO or anything so why bother.

    Thank you for this channel and this interview. Good stuff. Advice if you want it to be better. Knock off the “mhm” every 5 seconds. I know you want to show you’re an active listener, but it is distracting AF as a listener, and quite annoying. Would be 10x easier to listen to without all the active listening noises. Thanks!

    I never had gut issues until covid hit. I ad to get vaccinated to go to Mexico to pursue my residency. Could covid had been a factor? I also came back from Mexico 2020 of February with covid symptoms very sick. This is where my gut trauma began. Doctors aren't helpful. I've spent two years watching podcast like yours. I believe I've helped, but not totally. I do know stress, sleep, and environment is crucial. I'm looking for a dietician and doctor in Vancouver and Washington. I also have had huge trauma. Help

    I would agree with a majority of what Dr Will advises, but then I am warned against generalities and cite the case of Dr J Peterson and his daughter that only eat red meat. Plants (a combination of both fibre and natural toxins) were making her extremely sick and she stumbled on red meat as the antidote. That works for her.
    The moral of the story is educate yourself about your digestive system (from mouth to anus) and understand what YOU need as this a personal story.

    Ok so i theoretically have sibo (tested positive with breath teat) with diarrhea, bloating, and food sensitivities as my main symptoms. Dr B says to test for Celiac, crohns, microscopic colitis, ibd. We have all came back normal. So did a colonoscopy, endoscopy, and gastric emptying study. So now what still have symptoms

      Look into artichoke and ginger extract. From the research I’ve done it’s the treatment that most people have had success with to improve SIBO.

      @@Wendy-Frazier diarrhea, painful bloating, and food sensitivities. So many food sensitivities I never had before. Used to have an iron gut. Almonds, eggs, dairy, corn, watermelon, salsa, beans, salad greens particularly ones like arugula and spinach. dragon fruit. That's all that's coming to mind at the moment.

    I don't agree with most of what's being said but I do agree about the social media and young people. Even for myself as an older person I believe that it removes people's ability to relate to other people in person. So young people especially have become very selfish rude and uncaring towards other people! The older Generations can manage a better because they have the social skills that they learned before social media came out

    On a more serious note, I LOVE your presentation. But I notice the jump cuts on every inhalation in order to talk U sed to be that in America 'dead air' was not allowed on radio. But that does not mean speaking with inhaling for breath. This is the normal way to speak as being involved with the medical community, certainly you are aware that we have to have rather frequently as to have the lung capacity to speak. This editing out those small inhales is annoying as no one unless they had some external blower across the vocal cords cannot speak totally uninterrupted. It is so natural to have these momentary pauses to breathing in that it is customary a part of human speech. Again, it used to be in America on radio to avoid what was called 'dead air'. That does NOT mean to avoid the momentary inhales, as that would be impossible to do anyway.
    I have seen many people making videos here on YT trying to edit out all the natural inhalations in speaking, and making it sound like AI which does NOT depending of lungs to push air over vocal cords at brief intervals. WHY some of these people wish to imitate AI in a continuous speech with NO inhalation breaks (that is what commas are for) to a run together speech is beyond me. I can tell here that on every inhalation, a jump cut is noticed with a sudden change in head posture et al.
    Please don't do that as that is time consuming and very annoying as no one naturally talks all in one super long breath. Just talk normally even with the brief periodic inhalations.
    There is no limit shortage space to record digitally, and even back in the day with magnetic tape, there was never frequent pauses for inhalations in order to 'save tape'! Thanks.

      the problem with the carnivore diet is that people tend to just throw back some foods, then get pain and problems, you have to micro dose like feeding a baby again when you have not eaten plants for a while.
      I ate a bag of edamame beans once, and nearly exploded. one bean. not 30. that sort of thing.

      I went on keto/carnivore two months ago and my anxiety has reduced significantly, my long-term chronic digestive issues have totally disappeared and my inflammation has reduced. Still too early to give it 10/10 yet.
      I prefer to think for myself what is best for my health rather than believe what I am told to think by people often with vested interests.

      Carnivore made me very sick. Three weeks on crazy carnivore diet non stop diarrhea. Thank God! I am no longer on carnivore. Not fully recovered yet my gut health is still not where it was before trying crazy carnivore. For anyone who is considering crazy carnivore make sure you are fully aware of the side effects.

      @@Virgo921 There are some people who rush into a diet without transitioning slowly. You can't just rush into carnivore and expect it to work wonders. I spent two years cutting out various carbs, starting with highly sugared food, especially ultra processed ones. Even so when I began going 80% carnivore a few months ago I had stomach issues at first for about 5 days. But the results since have been impressive. My anxiety levels have dropped significantly, the inflammation in my lower back has reduced a little and my chronic constipation ended several months whilst transitioning by cutting down on fibre and raisng my stomach acidity level. I love these side effects. Research is important. If you couldn't drive a car you wouldn't expect to be able to jump in one and start driving properly right away, so why should people expect to jump into carnivore and feel great from day one?

    The doctor sounds confused and is confusing about the diagnosis of SIBO. Rifaximin is a safe antibiotic and a 14 days course, when the diagnosis is so difficult, is perfectly in order.

    Your videos are very informative. Are soil based probiotics beneficial? I've ordered Youth&Earth Probiotic which contains Bacillus Subtilis HU58, Bacillus Coagulans SC208 and Bacillus Clausii SC109. Spore based probiotics are very controversial since it's opponents claim that they are not naturally found in human gut and if they cause infection, it's very difficult to treat it because they form spores. I'm really confused, please guide me

    You don't need any fiber. Microbiome has been shown to become more diverse on a carnivore diet (no fiber). They feed on other things too. When people have digestive disorders, they are fixed by elimination of fiber.

      @@tracey-louiserobson8995 Yes but I do have some plant food (about10% as well. All low sugar. No grains, no beans, very little fruit. Avocados, nuts, sauerkraut, broccoli and cauliflower. That's about it other than (mainly red) meat, eggs and some dairy. I am not saying this diet will be permanent for me (only been 2 months now) but while it is working so well for me I will carry on.

I believe that some plant food may be healthy for me (whether it is for others is up to them to decide) as long as it is in small amounts and not containing high levels of sugars and/or antinutrients. I do often go without any fibre at all sometimes depending on how I feel at the time. I also like to experiment from time to time to see if something agrees with my gut. Probiotics which contain good gut bacteria may also help the gut to crowd out the bad bacteria that most people have without realising it. So that is why I sometimes have a little sauerkraut as well as kefir and bio-yoghurt.

      Because they have to go by say NHS rules while practising in GP surgeries and hospitals. Doctors aren't trained or aren't allowed to treat patients with food and natural things. It's a money making industry. Soon as your cholestoral goes high statins they are told to give. Pills to take away symptoms.

    Most are my real friends! I don't have very many Human friends, but these little critters are my friends, so cute they are! Even the so-called 'bad' ones are also my friends, as in many respects I get along with them even better, like Staphylococcus Aureus, Bacilli Cereus, Clostridium Perfringens, and even Giardia Intestinalis (a parasite, not a bacteria). I have even had dealings with Vibrio Cholerae, but only a rather limited mild relationship with VC.
    These are the so-called 'bad' bacteria and parasitical that I have had dealings with as well. Oh yes! We mustn't forget about rotavirus and Sapovirus, as well Astrovirus which I have delt with as well - that would be discrimination! Yes my little buddies!

    See Zoe Harcombe PhD for an alternative view about fiber. We all have individual DNA. Clearly some people with IBS or even IBD have had very much reduced symptoms of these conditions when they stopped consuming fiber. Ther is no dietary minmal requirement for fiber. Many people on carnivore diets seem to have perfectly normal bowel function and avoid constipation if they consume enough fat.

      I took collagen for my joints for the last 5 years, but my gut issues got worse. I started following dr B's advice on getting a wide variety of plant fibers to heal my gut about 3 months ago after seeing him on diary of a ceo. I no longer use collagen because my inflammation is lowered so much. My joints feel better. Collagen might help? I guess? But it didn't seem to help me. All that helped was plant fiber.

    Am I the only one who types all these facts and knowledge about PLANTS to better defend my reason of why I eat plants and why they are healthy for us in an era where CARNIVORES claim plants are killing us? Plants are being malignified by meat eaters.
